Wow! I'm so glad this place finally opened back up after a brief hiatus. We stopped in on a busy Saturday evening when there was a birthday party, and we were still served super promptly with friendly service. The food- omg. So delicious. The Omakase Nigiri had special topping on each piece- the attention for *detail*!! The waitress suggested the Lindsay roll which is now in my tops of all time. Definitely wish we would have asked which fish each nigiri was- but we will be back to ask again soon! read more

My family went there after Kaye eats did a video on it on IG, and it was everything you want in a local sushi spot -- fresh, flavorful, and super friendly. The fish is was top quality, the rolls are creative without being over-the-top, and the service makes you feel right at home. Whether you're popping in for a casual dinner or doing a full sushi night out, it hits. It's the kind of place that becomes your go-to before you even realize it. We just ate here last night. It was okay. We ordered 4 different rolls. All the rolls came smothered in the same exact pink/white sauce. It made them all taste exactly the same, but with different textures. First couple were decent, after it wasn't great. Towards the end it actually got pretty gross. The restaurant was pretty cold inside, and the table we sat at was super wobbly. Also the lighting was pretty bright. We used to go here before it was recently sold. It had its issues, but the food used to be legit! I'm not trying to S on this restaurant. I hope they are able to get better.. although, if the masses like the same tasting roll covered in the same sauce, more power to them. read more

I just tried this place for the first time and it was so good!! I recommend the lindsay special, it was my favorite roll and super fresh. Our server with the gages was beyond helpful with the menu and super friendly! He provided excellent service even though it was super busy which made the experience even better. read more

We had the boat for an event, Everyone in the event was asking where is it from. Very tasty and delicious sushi. Someone referred me to this place I was craving after work so ordered door dash. House wife and Tokyo roll was not good. It was drenched with sauce and the Tokyo roll tasted like gas because of the torch. It was not good at all, the miso soup was good. Good food .I ordered sushi boat ! I placed an order. But when I went to pick it up, they just gave me everything in boxes. I was going to a party and I needed everything to be nicely served. Went in, place wasn't crazy busy. Got sat right away then proceeded to be ignored for 20 mins. Waiters took the order of the table next to us. Dropped food to the table on the other side. Went on a Sunday around 1pm and as we entered we were promptly greeted. We sat at the bar, looked over the menu and ordered. We had the Hokkaido Uni, sashimi 6 pc and shrimp tempura. Very fresh and tasty food. The sushi chefs and Alexis our server was checking on us, and her intervals were good making sure if we needed anything. The scallop shooters were very good. I was in the area on a Monday evening and was craving sushi, found this place via a quick Google search and decided to give it a try before our 3 hour drive back home. It's located right off Fair Oaks Blvd, judging from the exterior you wouldn't expect much from the interior but this place is stylish, comfortable and clean. It was the perfect place for us to stop for dinner before heading home. We were told before being seated that due to staffing issues, there was no kitchen staff for the night so sushi only. We had the cherry blossom, T&A, 49er, lion King, and Alaskan. Each roll was delicious, rolled well, and tasted fresh. The sauces that topped the rolls were really good, I particularly enjoyed the light green sauce that tasted like green onion. There was just one sushi chef and one waitress for the night but service was quick, friendly and efficient. My husband and I were impressed with our meal and can't wait to dine at Shogun Sushi again. read more

Not even going to lie, this was one of the best sushi spots I've ordered from! It was so good. I spent the night in Rancho Cordova for a family event and we ordered door dash to our hotel. We ordered well over 6 rolls! Everyone couldn't stop saying how good their were. I ordered the Shogun Roll and wish I ordered 2. This review is solely based on my roll as we didn't eat at the restaurant, we ordered takeout. 10/10 recommend. I'm not big on fishy sushi. So the Shogun roll was perfect. If you're in the area and looking for a tasty sushi spot, this should be it! You won't regret it. read more

Never ever have I been so impressed by the food and so disappointed with the service. Yes, our group was large and we had a fair number of young children, but that's not an excuse for an obviously inexperienced and overwhelmed wait staff. There also seemed to be a "manager" who stood around and did nothing while the one waiter (who was incredibly young and completely overwhelmed) struggled to keep up. Unfortunately it was some of the worst service I've experienced anywhere. But...the food was outstanding. Definitely some of the best sushi I've ever had. Everything was super fresh. Even the California roll was amazing. I recommend coming when you have plenty of time, patience, and hunger! read more

We weren't sure what to expect when we stopped by this spot for some rolls. We were here on a weekend getaway to visit a few random cities so we just pulled up a nearby sushi restaurant with decent reviews. Greeted by a very soft spoken young man on the phone, he took our order and said it would take 20 minutes. The order was ready quicker than that and while the rolls were decent, I was more interested in thanking the young man who chased us back to our car because we accidentally left our credit card in the restaurant. I can't rate the ambience since it was a pick-up order but the rolls were good enough, yet small but ginger didn't taste fresh. We aren't sure if we'll be back but we'll never forget the heartfelt level of service! Thanks for feeding us during our first trip to Carmichael, Shogun! read more

Shogun is our place to go now. Great service, cozy place and fresh sushi rolls. Our server Ruvim did a great job for our table. This is my fam's new sushi spot! For the price and quality, you get a really good bang for your buck. I know it may sound weird, but their take on the bruschetta is so good and refreshing! Must try!! I'm just disappointed I've been 3 or 4 times now under the new management, and the food just doesn't have that pop it used to have. I used to go every Friday and just absolutely loved it. Especially the Mango Crunch Roll and the Super Mexican. Sushi crack! Today was the last straw. I ordered an omakase roll, not spicy, I can't tolerate it right now. It was to go, so I didn't look in the box, but I got home, and it was an omakase platter, which explains why it was $45. Okay, fine, I can deal with that. Maybe I wasn't clear that I wanted a roll, I don't know. The first bite I take has something pretty spicy in it, to the point my mouth was burning. I call them and I'm told, that's weird, they didn't put anything spicy in it. Basically too bad, I'm wrong. I added a Pic and it's hard to see bit all that green sauce that smeared around the fish is HOT. Beautiful atmosphere, meh service and food. read more

Ambiance was okay. It looks nice inside, however they have three TVs that appear to be playing an endless loop of European country screensavers and music that belongs in a nightclub. I've been to a number of sushi spots around Sacramento. I have never left a roll uneaten but a combination of soggy rice, over cooked edamame and shoguns "signature sauce" left more to be desired. Bruschetta sounds weird to be on a sushi menu and even though the menu made no mention of their take on bruschetta I guess o should have known it would be sushi inspired. Either way, that'll be first and last time I done at Shogun. Personnel were friendly and service was prompt but the food wasn't good. Currently headed to find a palette cleanser. Side note: the water with lemon was refreshing. read more

As of early December 2013 Shogun Sushi is under new ownership. Head Chef and proprietor, Jimmy Kil strives to make sure that his customers enjoy only the finest quality Japanese food available in the Sacramento area. Jimmy has been both a fish market buyer and expert trained head sushi chef for countless years.

Meet the Business Owner: Alex S.

Hello there! My name is Alex, I am the owner of Shogun Sushi. I have always dreamed of opening a restaurant specializing in my passion for sushi. I have been in the restaurant business for 11 years, but my passion for delivering quality food started in 1999 when my family moved to the United States. I worked hard alongside my mother and father at a teriyaki restaurant which sprouted my passion. The former owner Jimmy and I have been close friends for the majority of each other's lives, Jimmy offered me the opportunity to take over Shogun in early 2024. I had a vision for Shogun like no other. We wanted to create a special atmosphere that transports you into a different world while you experience new flavors of high-quality ingredients.

This was our first time trying Shogun, though it's been on our list of places to try for quite some time. They made some rather last minute accommodations for a party of 12, for a birthday get together. The space itself is modern, clean, and more spacious than it appears from the outside. The service staff was very friendly, and made some awesome recommendations for rolls. They even went out of their way to ask the entire table how everybody enjoyed their food. Our entire party had nothing but good things to say about their meals, which is an accomplishment in itself. Under new ownership...and thank goodness. For a year I watched the quality of the service and food go down hill. Still, I decided to give Shogun Sushi one last chance, and boy am I glad I did! The new owner and chef Jimmy is AMAZING. Not only is Jimmy a real sushi artist, but he's a very pleasant change of personality to this place. The sushi has never been fresher tasting. The rolls I've been eating at Shogun in the past now tasted 10 times better than they used to. If you've ever been here and didn't like it you should try it again. Shogun is my go to sushi spot these days! The rolls always taste fresh and are fairly sized for the price point. I usually get nigiri, and the chefs do amazing at elevating a simple dish with the different toppings and textures. Tonight I revisited an old favorite- So So So Fresh.
