Not sure if most of the well rated reviews are accurate because my experience was different. The staff were all generally helpful and kind, but the sushi did not seem fresh. We got multiple rolls and could tell the fish used was not the best quality. read more

Not even going to lie, this was one of the best sushi spots I've ordered from! It was so good. I spent the night in Rancho Cordova for a family event and we ordered door dash to our hotel. We ordered well over 6 rolls! Everyone couldn't stop saying how good their were. I ordered the Shogun Roll and wish I ordered 2. This review is solely based on my roll as we didn't eat at the restaurant, we ordered takeout. 10/10 recommend. I'm not big on fishy sushi. So the Shogun roll was perfect. If you're in the area and looking for a tasty sushi spot, this should be it! You won't regret it. read more

Never ever have I been so impressed by the food and so disappointed with the service. Yes, our group was large and we had a fair number of young children, but that's not an excuse for an obviously inexperienced and overwhelmed wait staff. There also seemed to be a "manager" who stood around and did nothing while the one waiter (who was incredibly young and completely overwhelmed) struggled to keep up. Unfortunately it was some of the worst service I've experienced anywhere. But...the food was outstanding. Definitely some of the best sushi I've ever had. Everything was super fresh. Even the California roll was amazing. I recommend coming when you have plenty of time, patience, and hunger! read more

We weren't sure what to expect when we stopped by this spot for some rolls. We were here on a weekend getaway to visit a few random cities so we just pulled up a nearby sushi restaurant with decent reviews. Greeted by a very soft spoken young man on the phone, he took our order and said it would take 20 minutes. The order was ready quicker than that and while the rolls were decent, I was more interested in thanking the young man who chased us back to our car because we accidentally left our credit card in the restaurant. I can't rate the ambience since it was a pick-up order but the rolls were good enough, yet small but ginger didn't taste fresh. We aren't sure if we'll be back but we'll never forget the heartfelt level of service! Thanks for feeding us during our first trip to Carmichael, Shogun! read more

Shogun is our place to go now. Great service, cozy place and fresh sushi rolls. Our server Ruvim did a great job for our table. Here are a couple of my favorites: Bruschetta Tuna sashimi with truffle oil. Mikey roll Fireball Lion King Super rainbow And I have many more to try. I did like the sushi, I wasn't a fan of the jalapeño bombs. I was hoping it would be covered in tempura not deep friend in bread crumbs. The place inside is nice and the people are nice. My biggest complaint unfortunately was with the service. They didn't come back to ask us for drinks or to take our order for a long long time after being seated. Atleast 20 minutes, No one even said "I'll be right with you". They weren't that busy to where they couldn't acknowledge us. Then once we ordered we had to ask a couple of times for water, because he forgot to bring it to us. They did check on us, which was nice. Then once we were done, we stacked all the plates (I know how to stack them since I've been a server before) and they never came to clear our plates and I noticed the tables next to us also had all their plates still there. This was one of those times I felt compelled to not leave a tip but I still did Just not the regular 15 to 20%. Would I come back? I'm not sure because it's very pricey unless you come during happy hour. Its to pricey of a place to get bad service. read more

Restaurant was well kept and everything was great about the restaurant itself. The waiter we had was an odd guy, just felt super awkward when attending to our table and felt like I was not at the right place or something. We got our food and it was pretty quick for everything we ordered, food was delicious! The issues were more of a matter of customer service, our waiter gave us our food and never came to check in on us after. We don't even know where he went; presumably lunch or break but not even a heads up was a little disappointing and an attentive waiter would have been more enjoyable. But no matter, food was good so the three stars is for the food and restaurant. This was our personal experience so yours could be totally different, would go for the food again. read more

I was in the area on a Monday evening and was craving sushi, found this place via a quick Google search and decided to give it a try before our 3 hour drive back home. It's located right off Fair Oaks Blvd, judging from the exterior you wouldn't expect much from the interior but this place is stylish, comfortable and clean. It was the perfect place for us to stop for dinner before heading home. We were told before being seated that due to staffing issues, there was no kitchen staff for the night so sushi only. We had the cherry blossom, T&A, 49er, lion King, and Alaskan. Each roll was delicious, rolled well, and tasted fresh. The sauces that topped the rolls were really good, I particularly enjoyed the light green sauce that tasted like green onion. There was just one sushi chef and one waitress for the night but service was quick, friendly and efficient. My husband and I were impressed with our meal and can't wait to dine at Shogun Sushi again. read more

We love sushi and have been looking for a go to spot since we moved to this area 2 years ago. We've tried many places but Shogun is now our designated favorite. The ambiance is very cool, it's a small restaurant but very well kept and the decor is fantastic! My daughter loved the lights on the walls and the cool backdrop where the restrooms are. Our server was fantastic, very sweet and prompt with her service. I'm not super adventurous with sushi, so I usually stick with the classic rolls, and Shogun does them the best! We had the California Roll, Avo Kyu Roll, and the Teriyaki Chicken Roll and all three were delicious! All the ingredients tasted fresh and the rolls were presented perfectly. This is my fam's new sushi spot! For the price and quality, you get a really good bang for your buck. I know it may sound weird, but their take on the bruschetta is so good and refreshing! Must try!! I just had my wife's 60th birthday party at Shogun Sushi. I reserved the room that the restaurant recently added. Around 30 of our friends showed up for the celebration. With recommendations from Alex, the owner, I ordered three sushi boats and some saki for the party goers. The staff brought out the amazing boats with perfect timing. The food was, and always is, AMAZING. the service we received was next level. We all had a stress free incredible evening at Shogun Sushi. I highly recommend coming to this restaurant for parties, dinner, or just to grab some lunch. I am excited and happy that we have this great option in Carmichael! Food was great. Service was on point she immediately came to us and got us waters. And took out orders promptly. I got the Mikeys roll. It was solid. And some Gyoza allllways fire. My girl got a 7 piece omakase which she seemed to enjoy. The ambiance of the restaurant is really nice. The floor the walls. Its just got a nice aesthetic to the place. A group of 6 went to this place right by the gym after dance. I shared nigiri combo and the bento box with another person. Like many other restaurants, the portion of the bento box was huge and for me, that's so not appetizing. I got so sleepy (probably from MSG) and had a heartburn afterwards and skipped dinner, which I almost never do. The noodle dish portion was humongous as well. If I come back, I'll order either nigiri or rolls. The check came out $24 including the tip. No wonder there are so many tourists going to Japan to 'eat', on my last trip in May, I paid $21 for lunch for 4 people. read more

As of early December 2013 Shogun Sushi is under new ownership. Head Chef and proprietor, Jimmy Kil strives to make sure that his customers enjoy only the finest quality Japanese food available in the Sacramento area. Jimmy has been both a fish market buyer and expert trained head sushi chef for countless years.

Meet the Business Owner: Alex S.

Hello there! My name is Alex, I am the owner of Shogun Sushi. I have always dreamed of opening a restaurant specializing in my passion for sushi. I have been in the restaurant business for 11 years, but my passion for delivering quality food started in 1999 when my family moved to the United States. I worked hard alongside my mother and father at a teriyaki restaurant which sprouted my passion. The former owner Jimmy and I have been close friends for the majority of each other's lives, Jimmy offered me the opportunity to take over Shogun in early 2024. I had a vision for Shogun like no other. We wanted to create a special atmosphere that transports you into a different world while you experience new flavors of high-quality ingredients.

If you enjoy mikuni and the likes and enjoy your rolls, this might not be the place for ya. You want it at fast food speed, yeah unlikely. Nothing wrong with that but stick to mikuni and other random "sushi" spots and skip writing that bad review due to your personal expectations and experiences, or lack thereof. I love food. I travel for food. I use the Michelin stars as a guide and will never call myself a foodie. If I had to explain it, I'm a food connoisseur. I know when I'm here I want the sushi bar so there's no lag time for the nigiri (many steps to eating nigiri but I'll spare ya and timing is crucial) to touch my tongue. The special dishes are always amazing. I have never tried a roll lol. I travel for food and we all know sushi rolls is an American made concept of fast food "sushi". Very mom and pop and possibly understaffed at times but customer flow can also be extremely inconsistent. Let's all have a bit of compassion and be slightly understanding and come for the best real Japanese food in North America (yes I would know I'm a star chaser without a budget) and an authentic experience akin to Japan. It's incredibly reasonably priced and I would easily pay 3x. But at 3x I might need mood lighting haha. Sit at the sushi bar, talk to the chefs, try new things, be open minded and patient, and maybe then you can learn to love this place too.

Food- salty sushi. One roll has overpowering fish taste. Expected better. Very big sushi rolls made it difficult and awkward to eat.

Chef offered us a complimentary special salad which was delicious. Every dish was outstanding and large. The table service was attentive very helpful. We sent our compliments to the. Chef and he came to our table to greet us..The atmosphere was peaceful, and comfortable. We've eaten here several times. Also, great menu.
