So strangely, we have been here 3 times and still have not had the hot pot ‍ We usually come and get the sukiyaki beef bowl. It's delicious and is more food than expected. This is an updated review to my older one posted pretty much when Boiling Avenue opened oh so many years ago. I've spent many dinners here since then and I have to say BA has been one of my go to spots ever since the doors opened. They began with a focus on their awesome hot pots and some appetizers and have expanded to have a wide array of food options. I love a good soup, but I have to admit their rice bowls have become my new fave. The pork belly with quail eggs and the popcorn chicken bowls are our go to entrees now. We stop by after every pickleball game we have and our group can't help but order what we consider the "necessary" BA bites. AKA most of the menu. Salt and pepper tofu (my fave), grilled mackerel (yum), shrimp skewers (a classic), cucumber salad, garlic mushrooms and more. Never went wrong with trying something new from the menu. This place has always been a vibe and I've celebrated many an occasion here. But it's also one of our fave can't decide on anything dinner spots. My husband and I came in for a weeknight dinner date. The decor was cute, aesthetic, and clean, with a clear bar-restaurant vibe. We were invited to sit at any table we liked and scan QR codes to view the menu, which was easy and convenient. Service here was truly exceptional. The staff was extremely attentive throughout our entire meal and made us feel very well taken care of. We also enjoyed the mini sauce bar, though we really wished they had black vinegar! We ordered the Satay Beef Hot Pot, Sichuan Spicy Hot Pot, and the Garlicky Enoki Mushroom Sizzler. The Satay Beef broth was too reminiscent of peanut butter for my taste and reminded me a lot of kare kare (a Filipino dish). I don't enjoy savory dishes that taste like peanut butter, so this wasn't for me--though I think I might've liked it more if it had more depth from additional spices or aromatics. The Sichuan Spicy broth was neither very spicy nor numbing, despite the name. It wasn't red, only had a few Sichuan peppers (and no peppercorns), and felt extremely mild compared to traditional Sichuan hot pot broth. The Enoki Mushroom Sizzler was bland and lacked flavor. I felt like I had to dip it into sauce just to enjoy it, so we packed it up to revive it later at home. While the service made the dinner experience pleasant, every dish we ordered lacked the punchy Asian flavors we were expecting. I feel like my experience at Boiling Avenue could have been better. While the food was fairly good, I feel like the service for me was a little poor for my first time being there. During my time I felt like my food took a little longer than usual to come out, while there was no one else dining, there was also a delivery driver that was trying to get some sort of situation figured out, so that's probably why my food took a bit longer to come out. Small parking lot but we went on a weekend evening and there was only one couple there at the time so we parking, seated and served right away. Cool chill vibe inside. Menu was decent, had a few options for soups, rice bowl, appetizers and drinks. Everything we tried was really good. Hot pot was brought out on a nice serving dish where they light on fire in front of you. Only downfall is that it takes such a long time to boil before you can eat. So if youre in a hurry I wouldnt recommend the hot pot. I liked how they provode additional broth if you need more. The edamame was decent. Flavor was okay, but I wish there had been more sauce. The kimchi fried rice was good. There sauce bar was only six items so it was really small. It incurred 3 sauces, green onions, cilantro and garlic. I wasnt too impressed by it but it still helps. This place is always such a hit especially when it's so cold and rainy!!! When you walk in, they may seat you or ask you to seat yourself. Water is self serve. The servers are usually running around taking orders, bringing plates to tables, drinks, and cleaning up so expect them to be busy. Both times we've gone recently it's been two young women running the front of the house and props to them. It gets busy here around 5:30/6 pm until closing. We love the white rice, pork belly and quail eggs to start with. Also the kimchi fried rice is so delicious. I enjoy spicy so ordering the Sichuan spicy has been my favorite. Ask for extra broth if you enjoy the broth like me! They will re fill your bowl :) This place always has a nice homey feel to it. Amazing place :) Been coming here for 6 years now and it never disappoints! Tonight my mom and I each ordered the House Special hot pot and it's what I recommend to newcomers. It has a little bit of everything, but a lot of flavor! They have yummy sauces that you can try along with it: chili oil, ponzu and a spicy citrus heat one. Bad service. Good food. I came to this restaurant to meet with a friend for lunch. We arrived about 5 minutes before 12 pm on a weekday. By 12 pm, the "closed" sign was still up at the door. We couldn't wait, so we were glad to find out the door was unlocked. After we got in, there was no one in the whole place. The only server who never smiled once during the next two hours showed up after five minutes or so, unenthusiastically, she asked what we would like to order. Since this restaurant had eliminated all paper menu options. We tried to order from our phones, only to find out that what was available online wasn't necessarily available in the restaurant?! My friend was interested in a meal that comes with a veggie dish. We asked our server which veggie it would be before she could make a final decision. The server stated it will either be Kimchi or cucumber salad. So, my friend informed the server that she does eat hot dishes. Therefore, she would like to know which veggie she would get for her meal. Still, the server replied: "Our kimchi is not hot" + "it will be either kimchi or cucumber salad" without even checking with the kitchen. Finally, we had to request her to please verify with the kitchen. The food came, and it was good. Later, my hotpot was fully boiled. The hot broth was starting to splatter. I needed to put the fire out. But our server was nowhere to be found for about 20 minutes. We tried to use a spoon to put the fire out, but it did not work. About another 20 minutes later, we finally spotted the server. The whole time we were there for about 2 hrs. She made us feel as if we were bothering her. We were the only table there the whole 2 hours. There was one other 'to go' customer who was also treated as if he was a hassle. Before leaving the restaurant, I went to the bathroom to wash my hands, and that's when I discovered the server was hiding in the back hallway, sitting in the corner on her phone. Never once did she lift her head to check to see who was walking to and from the restroom. It was the worst customer service I have ever witnessed. It explained why this restaurant was empty during the whole two-hour period. We know we will never want to be back, no matter how good the food is. read more

First time here for lunch at Boiling Ave with my party of 3, food and portions were good, but the service was horrible. Worst customer service I have ever had. We were the only party in the restaurant, with only 1 server and that server's attitude definitely seemed like it was "boiling". Never acknowledged us when we said thank you, acted like she did not want to be there, and made me feel like we were just a nuisance to her when we barely requested for anything. The most diabolical moment was my flame went out in my hotpot mid-meal on its own, and I sat there for 20 minutes patiently waiting for our server to return, she was no where to be seen. During that time, my hotpot went cold with meat that was raw, and couldn't cook because the flame went out during that amount of time. After patiently waiting 20 minutes with a now cold pot with raw meat that couldn't cook, I got up, went near the kitchen in the hallway, and politely said, "Excuse me" three times to get their attention on the matter, as the sound of dishes being organized was echoing from within. The third time when I said "Excuse me", our server barged out of the women's restroom, which was right next to the kitchen in the hallway, looking at me like I just committed a crime and said, "Yes?!". I then responded to her politely with a calm tone, "Sorry to bother you, but I just need my hotpot flame turned back on please, the flame went out 20 minutes ago". She then angrily responded, "Okay!", like I was an absolute bother. She then came to my hotpot, lit it. I said, "thank you", and she didn't say anything, no acknowledgment from her, as she walked away angrily. Look, I truly understand if the service is slow & stressful when a restaurant is packed, but at that time there was literally no one in there, and was just me and my 2 other party members the whole time from beginning to the end of our meal. There's a saying on the wall from within the restaurant that reads, "Keep Calm & Flame On". And I'll say this, the server was not calm, and their attitude was definitely flaming on for sure. The food and portions were good, but the service needs a lot of work. Despite all this, I really do hope the server is ok because we don't know what anyone is going through in life. One was a house sauce the other citrus fish sauce. I didn't add the chili oil just did the garlic oil. Self serve lemon water station. Food came out great quick. Service was friendly. I really enjoyed my whole experience here, especially after a really long drive. I've been craving hot pot for some time and today was the day that I wanted to have some soup. For context, I was driving for almost 4 hours to get to Sacramento as I had a conference to attend to. After my conference ended, I ended up looking at Yelp to see what hotpot's were near me and stumbled upon boiling Avenue. The drive was pretty easy and not too far from the hotel, and there was a good amount of parking. I sat and was greeted by these two sweet girls at the front, where they explained the menu to me and kept checking up on me. Although I was craving a curry hot pot, I ended up getting the lobster hot pot and it honestly did not disappoint, it was so good in flavor and the price is honestly really good. Then I had an amazing conversation with the girls working at the restaurant and honestly, it just made my day. The waitress was awesome! Very knowledgeable we went with the 4, house pot, three with udon noodles and one with ramen noodles, and potstickers! Everything was amazing ! This is definitely a dinning experience! The food comes out not cooked and in the boiling broth everything slowly cooks, we added some habanero sauce which made the dish much less bland!
