I'm so sad to hear that they're closing. I loved getting their Vegan Faux Shrimp Fried Rice and Pad Kee Mow Drunken Noodles with Mock Chickn, both were so flavorful and always hit the spot. This was my second trip here, thanks to my foodie friend that let me know about it. Last time there were 9 of us and we ordered pretty much everything off the menu and it was all so tasty and fresh. This time around I brought my mom and her husband who were visiting from the bay and love Thai Food. It's quite far from my house but worth the trip. Today we started with eggrolls, they were perfectly crispy and not greasy. The filling was very flavorful and the dipping sauce paired perfectly. Next we had the Tom Yum soup. The broth is delicious and comes served in a hot pot of sorts lit from beneath, which is great because I love my food hot. It had plenty of large shrimp, a little bit of fish and some green mussels. On this occasion I did not see any calamari (which there was last time but maybe that was a treat) not mushrooms which it states on the menu. I let our server/the owner know and she brought some out for me to add. Next we had the Salt & Pepper Fish which was so flavorful, and had a lovely light and airy texture. We ended with Pad Thai Noodles. I asked for a combination of shrimp and chicken, which the owner accommodated my request with a smile. Unfortunately when the dish arrived the cook had forgotten the shrimp. I brought this to the servers attention and she brought some sautéed shrimp out quickly. The flavor and texture of the pad Thai was delight and nice and saucy unlike other places we've tried that serve the noodles up pretty dry. My mom loved the pad Thai so much she ordered some to go! I'll definitely be back again. The service was great even with a few mistakes but maybe the cook was new or just having an off day, it happens. This place took over the old "vegan fresh 2 U" space, so I decided to give it a try. They have Thai dishes. With both meat and seafood, as well as vegetarian and vegan choices. They have a decent sized menu, some spicy items some not, the spicy items are clearly delineated on the menu. The space is bright, it looks about the same as when it was the vegan place I was seated right away. I never met the chef, but his wife, who runs the front of house was very nice. She periodically came by to check to make sure that everything was OK The first thing I went for, is the spring rolls with shrimp. They were very good. The ingredients played very well with each other. I could taste a little bit of mint which I liked a lot. They were also generous with the shrimp. The peanut dipping sauce was savory and delicious. For my main Dish, I had the pad woon sen, glass noodles with veggies, and sauce. I decided to have mine with "mock chicken.". The Dish was a very decent sized portion, the noodles were well done, I liked the sauce, it was very savory. The veggies were mostly green and red, bell pepper. I normally don't like green, bell pepper, but it was chopped very finely, and it did not overwhelm the Dish. It was very good. It was listed on the menu as not spicy, and there was just a very, very tiny "kick" to it. The "mock chicken", to me was just OK. It tasted OK,. I asked, and she said that it was made out of gluten. For me, the texture and the taste were off just a little bit. I've had a product called. "Chick-n" before, which was closer to the texture and flavor of "real chicken". Unfortunately, this wasn't it. Again, it tasted OK, but I would not order it again. I took plenty home with me, and for the quality of the food and the fact that I got two meals, the price was reasonable. It pains me. But I have to be super honest. I wanted to love the food. I wanted to say support local businesses. But. It didn't hit the mark. First off. Customer service is absolutely amazing. Super nice and friendly staff. 5/5. Really clean interior. I ordered to go. Boat noodle - it's not for me. Too dark. Noodles needs to be thicker. They got soggy really fast. I like boat noodles that are dark but still have a slight orange hue. This was just black. So it lacked flavor. Something about it just wasn't hitting 3/5 Pad Thai - please don't add dry pepper unless asked. I never asked for it. It was okay at best. Needs more sauce. Flavor doesn't sit all the way through. 3/5 Lao style papaya - this was really good. Fresh. Strong taste. Flavorful. 5/5 Laab - I asked for medium and bitter. I didn't taste either. 2.5/5. Just has no flavor. Fried beef balls - 1/5. Sorry this is a huge no. They taste like beef jerky. Fried and dried to the point it has no texture and is hard. The sauce is too light to balance anything. Needs that strong thick sweet chili type of sauce to balance. All in all. I wanted to really love the food for the service and it being a local business. It was a generous portion, but I wouldn't get it again. My partner got the Chinese broccoli w/crispy pork belly and rice. He said he enjoyed it. My kids got the chicken & noodle stir fry kids meal to share. Very generous portion and it came with a drink. They enjoyed it and I thought it was worth it. Finally, got the nab vam. It was sweet, but had a fruity flavor that I liked. I would probably come back just for this (I'm a sweets/dessert person so this was a large part of why I wanted to come try this place out lol). Tried Thai Fresh 2 U for the first time. We end up ordering the thai boat noodle, chicken pad thai, crispy pork belly w/ sticky rice, and kapoon. Overall, the kapoon was good, big portion and can be shared with two people. I'll definitely give it a 7/10. Chicken pad thai was okay, had better, definitely need more sauce, 6/10. Crispy pork belly was good but the skin wasn't crispy and for $17 the portion is small, 7/10. Thai boat noodle, was a no for us. It was overly salty and too much blood which didn't blend well. We happened to find Thai Fresh 2 U through a quick Google search after spending the afternoon kayaking down the American River. After working up an appetite, I was looking for a spot that offered vegan options for my daughter and this place came up with great reviews. I'm so glad it did because it turned out to be a hidden gem. From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and welcoming. You could immediately tell this was a family-run restaurant where the owners truly care about the customer experience. The chef, who we later found out is also the owner, came out personally to ask how everything was, which was a really nice touch. We ended up chatting for a bit and learned that they had just had their grand opening on June 22, 2025, after moving up from Fresno. His wife runs the front while he's in the kitchen, and together, they're creating something special. As for the food, absolutely delicious. I ordered the beef drunken noodles but with a twist, swapping out the traditional ribbon noodles for pad Thai noodles, which is something I usually do. I also asked for their highest spice level, a level 10. A lot of places will say "level 10" and you end up with something mild or just overloaded with chili flakes that throw off the flavor. Not here. The heat was real, enough to make your nose sweat but still balanced and flavorful. They nailed it. My daughter had no trouble finding tasty vegan options, which can be tough when we eat out as a family. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. If you're ever rafting, kayaking, or floating down the American River, or even just in the Rancho Cordova area, do yourself a favor and stop by Thai Fresh 2 U.
