We received our Tom Yum soup before our rice arrived, so we waited to eat it. One of the ladies noticed we hadn't started eating and came over a few times to check if everything was okay. She wanted to make sure we were happy with our meal, which I really appreciated. My favorite dishes were the Thai papaya salad, Tom Yum soup, rad na, and the pad see ew. We ordered both the papaya salad and Tom Yum soup at the "fire spicy" level (I believe it's level 4). They were extremely spicy but still so good. Every dish came in generous portions and was well seasoned. The volcano chicken was fun to watch with its flaming presentation, but the chicken itself was a bit dry for my taste. The pumpkin curry also needed more flavor as well. Overall, I really enjoyed the food here.

The first half dozen times I came, was during 2020 and 2021 and they did not allow anyone inside beyond a tiny 3'x3' space at the far door. Take out only. I recall my review mentioned service time quoted wrong and inconsistent spice level. Well, those two were problematic tonight. I didn't ask and wasn't told how long food would be. Shortly after placing my order a group of young people walked in like they owned the place and sat at a long table that had dishes added to it as they were coming in. My food took 30+ minutes. The Tom kha seafood... I think the seafood may have been frozen and re-thawed a couple of times as it had a strange combination of textures within a piece of meat and pieces were very chewy. The spiciness, asked for medium but not too hot, like mild-medium. My liquidy yellow curry chicken was barely mild. The soup, was just sweet. Tbe rice was abundant but soggy/clumpy. The inside is absolutely lovely. I took tons of pictures for my first visit inside. I was told most was imported from Thailand. I believe it. I'm just not able to get myself to find the food good enough for me. Sad.

I had Pumpkin Curry again, but this time asked for the spice level to be between 3 and 'Thai Hot', which I found perfect. My husband had Pra Ram with tofu. So another winning meal.

On Sundays, she's in the kitchen cooking and turning out amazing dishes as well! Last Sunday I brought vegetarian family over for lunch and we ordered my goto safe and tasty silver noodles. It is made of mung bean which gives this clear noodle look and quite chewy. The flavor is a good balance of sweet and savory but not spicy at all unless you tell them to. Wife had their spring rolls and kids had drunken noodles no spicy. They are very accommodating with all sorts of requests like no eggs no onion no garlic etc and wanting soft tofu rather than fried tofu. I saw how many new specials they have plastered on the window and inside entrance, I knew I had to bring my parents over this Sunday! We came in today and order the crying tiger. We do wish it to be rarer for more soft texture but the flavor was great. My parents liked the ocean in love with the lobster tail, shrimp, and scallops over spiced veggies. The BBQ pork ribs was another safe choice of mild and savory Sweet flavor while the meat was tender. I didn't try the tom yum shrimp fried rice but my parents liked it as it has coconut flavor and it was literally a mountain of fried rice! Spicy though and I had to refrain while letting my GI heal from recent injury. Upon placing the orders, the owner quickly came out to see if it was really us! That's how we found out she cooks in the kitchen as well when she is needed in there. Always a pleasure and loving the innovation of new dishes. We also love their curry puffs! I've been craving good Thai food for a hot minute, and YELP to the rescue! Kaidao is located in a strip mall with several other restaurants. They're only open until 2:30 in the afternoon for lunch, and have an entire menu that is devoted to a ton of lunch items. It's a small restaurant, and there is extremely limited seating. There's a huge sign on their front door, telling customers and anyone else that if you wish to use the restroom that basically forget it they're not going to allow you to use the restroom. The restaurant opened up sometime in the middle of the pandemic and they've been there ever since. The restaurant seems to be run by a couple with the wife in the back cooking, and the husband taking care of the front end of the restaurant. That means he does the seating, the ordertaking, and brings everything to the table, as well as cleans up afterwards. Pictures can be deceiving. I ended up ordering the pad Thai noodles with beef. I was really looking for a lot of protein, and would have preferred chicken, but when I glanced over at the table next to me, they had a chicken dish with chicken exactly the way I don't like it. Slice pieces of white meat that taste like sawdust that has been compressed together. I just find that very rarely is it ever tasty, moist or flavorful. I ordered a Thai tea, and asked if the beef or if there was another protein that would be recommended. He insisted beef was really good. So beef it was. I had to remind him twice that I had ordered a Thai tea before he brought it to the table because it was obvious that he had forgotten. The Thai tea was pretty tasty. It was also very strong. Something that I was definitely in favor of at that time of day, but it just caught me off guard. I will say this was the best part of the meal! When my lunch arrived, you can tell by the pictures that it looks tasty. It was sadly disappointing. The noodles were not cooked all the way through and were rather hard, and I would say less than al dente. Not something that's expected in a Thai dish. All if not, most dishes can be ordered with whatever heat level you desire. This was not one of them. It was prepared mild, which was fine, it just lacked enough sauce, and sadly had even less flavor to it. It's like they skimp on the sauce for whatever reason. The beef was also exactly what I did not want and was prepared like the chicken dish Was at the table next to me. Small little tiny thin slices that were not seasoned, and was overcooked. Just overall it was not a good dish. What I did like, was a presentation of the dish. I like the fact that there was the nuts, and veggies on the side so that I could incorporate them into my dish as well as lime slices. I am thanked the man for the lime because I think it really makes these dishes taste fresh. I think if they were to cook the noodles so that they are done, add more sauce and flavor, and not overcook the meat. This would've been a great dish.

If you're a resident within the greater Sacramento area or someone who is visiting from out-of-town…read moreand on the hunt for an amazing Thai restaurant, do yourself a favor and check out "House of Thai Rice & Noodle". Located in the North Highlands area of Sacramento, this place is directly on Watt Ave and situated in a small strip mall next to one of my other favorite local restaurants, Sol Cubano. Parking can get quite packed and for some that don't venture to this neck of the woods, this is a sketchy area, especially at night. But once you step food inside, you will forget you're at one of Sacramento's top-rated Thai restaurants. Much to my surprise, this place has been around since 2013 and it took me well over a decade to finally try them out. I came here with my lady during the evening of Sunday 9/20/2026 at around 6:30pm. Since the exterior parking area was packed, we knew it would be busy. Luckily when we entered the main entrance, we were greeted and immediately seated (towards the back). I will say that this place has an old school mom-and-pop feel to it with lots of nostalgic items and knick-knacks as if you're truly dining in someone's home. If you're looking for an upscale dining experience, this place ain't for you. But the service and ambiance really wowed me the entire time I was here. Their menu is quite extensive with a huge assortment of appetizers, salads, curry dishes, BBQ, seafood, fried rice, and of course all the Thai noodle classics. Since I am no stranger to Thai food, I knew exactly what I wanted. I chose their "Beef Pad See-Ew" (priced decently at $13.50). This wildly popular Thai dish consisted of pan-fried noodles w/eggs, broccoli, Chinese broccoli, cabbage, and sweet soy sauce. Since I don't like my food spicy, I went with a heat level '1" which is the mildest amount of spice. My lady went with their "Chicken Drunken Noodles" (also priced at $13.50). Her dish is spicier with fresh chilis and other sauces to elevate the heat factor to a 3 out of 5. We also both split an order of "White Rice" while ordering two (2) "Thai Iced Teas" (priced at $4.50/each) to complete our order. Our waiter (who was the same guy that seated us) brought out two (2) iced waters w/lemon while our Thai Iced Teas arrived shortly thereafter. I will say that these were made to perfection (and as you can see from the photo), you get a decent amount. As for my Pad See-Ew; this absolutely hit the spot and was quite filling. The noodles were made perfectly while the seasoned beef was quite tender. I also tried some of her Drunken Noodles and this too was a phenomenal dish with the perfect amount of sweet, savory, salty, and spicy. I've been to my share of Thai restaurants, and this place absolutely ranks at the top in the Sacramento area. Best of all, I was only able to finish 60% of my meal which made for great leftovers the following day. All in all, "House of Thai Rice & Noodle" in North Highlands is the real deal. Don't let the location steer you away because you will soon forget about that real quick. The employees that work here are genuinely sweet and made sure we had an amazing dining experience from start to finish. Keep in mind that they are closed on Mondays. But they are open Tuesday through Sunday from 11am-3pm (for lunch) and 5-9pm (for dinner). Come hungry because they give you a ton of food. With amazing service, very reasonable prices, and delicious Thai food that will beg you to come back, I am giving House of Thai Rice & Noodle a perfect five-star rating.

The noodle soups are comforting with the perfect amount of heat to elevate the bold flavors. The papaya salad is crunchy and refreshing. I also love the sauce on their pad Thai. Even when taken to-go, the food comes just as fresh as it would be if I ordered in the restaurant.
