Everytime I'm in town I always get the orange chicken and fried rice! And you can't forget about the rose tea! The place has cute decore. It's a small place so be aware of dinner time when it gets busy. But they are fast and efficient
The food was delicious, the chowmein although not clearly pictured, was delicious, the orange chicken was perfectly sweet and sour, very good crunch, broccoli was perfectly cooked, the dumplings and pop stickers were all cooked perfectly. The portions were huge, we ordered and although a big order the turn around was fairly quick...minus the bao (which understandably take longer) service waa very good, server kept coming by and checking on us, refilling waters, and asking if we needed anything else. It's a cozy place, not super loud music, which helps be able to have a comfortable level conversation.
Cute spot in Midtown! My friends and I stopped for dinner, and the location is great. Vibes inside are cozy and our service was quick! I really enjoyed the garlicky green beans for our appetizer although the black pepper tofu was slightly lacking in flavor. I was most disappointed by the vegetable dumplings - the wrapper itself had an odd taste that made them offputting and the filling was overpowered by a particular aromatic spice I was unable to identify. Not too many vegetarian options on the menu, so I would probably opt to go elsewhere for vegetarian dumplings, but glad I gave this spot a try. If you have a less restrictive diet, could definitely be worth it!
Not northern Chinese style dumplings. Think more dim sum style. The food, think Cantonese restaurant. Lots of fried. Lots of sauce. Lots of oil. Perfect little Chinese spot for this neighborhood but not the spot to go if you're looking for authentic dumplings and noodles.
Came in on a Sunday around 5pm. There were two other tables with customers. We got a table right away. The order taker was friendly. We ordered xiao long bao, chicken cilantro dumplings, spicy garlic green beans and two Thai teas with crystal boba-different than the traditional boba. They were delicious and a nice large size. The green beans came out quickly and served piping hot. They were perfectly cooked with the perfect amount of spice. The soup dumplings were well made but the soup had mostly leaked out. The chicken cilantro dumplings was the highlight along with the green beans. The service was fast!! The restaurant is small but it was not over crowded today. There is an outside space but today there was a homeless person sitting out there when we arrived so no one was using it. Food and service rates 5 stars but with the homeless person in patio...minus one star : (
This place was really good! Went here after a quick yelp search while in SAC and what a good choice this was. Everything we got was so good and reasonably priced. Would go back next time I'm in Sacramento!
I'd give them 3.5 if I could. The food was okay.... we liked the pan fried noodles and I enjoyed the shrimp siu Mai. The pork cabbage dumplings were just okay--kind of soggy and overcooked. We ordered 3 drinks, one with boba, unaware that they only have crystal boba, which none if us like. I'd recommend they call out what kind they have on the menu to avoid confusion. I liked the passion fruit blended ice. Not the oreo cookie blended ice. The place is very small and cute and the service was fast and friendly.
BWE and I were out and about looking for a place to eat on a Sunday afternoon. We came upon this place. What a find! I ordered the spicy pork dumplings and the Mongolian beef with chow mein. BWE ordered the chicken and vegetables and chicken and cilantro dumplings (gluten free). NOTE: for those who are gluten free, they offer several gluten free and vegan options. We were both very satisfied with our orders. The spicy pork dumplings were delicious, packing a punch that was not overwhelming. They give you a TON of food. There was no way either of us was going to finish our orders. We both got take home boxes and are looking forward to round two with these dishes. We'll be back.
Great spot to grab lunch! Outdoor seating with shade and quick service. The Honey Walnut Shrimp was super crispy and full of sauce. I liked how many walnuts they included. The dumplings were good too! Definitely want to try their other offerings. I got my food super quickly and was surprised. Would recommend for a quick lunch and caffeine intake.

On paper it's simple: pork, baby bok choy, noodles, green onions. In reality it is deeply comforting and layered with flavor. The broth had body and warmth without being heavy, the ribs were tender and rich, and the noodles carried everything perfectly. It felt honest and soulful, like the kind of dish that does not try to impress you yet somehow does Garlic eggplant (5/5): A generous portion of silky eggplant cooked just right, paired with jalapeño, bamboo shoots, and mushroom in a sauce that hit that ideal balance of sweet and savory. The texture was spot on, soft but not mushy, and every component actually worked together. It is easy for eggplant to feel flat. This did not Xiao long bao (4/5): Still refining my dumpling standards, but this checked most of the important boxes. The wrapper was thin yet resilient, the broth aromatic and savory, and the filling well seasoned. The integration between soup and filling could have been a little more seamless, but overall it was a strong showing. Not transcendent, but absolutely worth ordering again
Out of the three options we got the shrimp dumplings were the best unfortunately everything else was just OK and the last item came out too late. We were already full at that point but when we reminded the waiter they said no it's coming please wait. Their menu items are very expensive, but I will say this is a very clean and renovated restaurant
My long lost Hidden Dumpling House! I've lived walking distance from HDH for over a year now and had only been once before. I thought it was average. BUT TONIGHT, I ordered a takeout dinner combo (General Tso's chicken with chow mein, fried rice, and an egg roll) and that combo hit the spot!!! The food was fresh, hot, and delicious. Mild spice for the chicken but nice and crispy yet saucy. This spot is just your local, classic Chinese restaurant with all the dumplings and staples you could ask for. I'll be back for sure! Ps. The portion was massive and totally splitable. Also, as others have mentioned, it's tight quarters but my takeout was perfectly yummy.

Yum yum yum! The food is top notch. I love thick gooey fresh noodles and their chowfun is fresh and the beef was generous and tender. I also loved their pork and chive dumplings dipped in vinegar and chili oil! My husband the beef spareribs soup and it was a very generous portion with 5 ribs, vegetables and yummy noodles. My kids under 5 split an orange chicken plate and ate the whole thing. The chicken was lightly battered and fried softly, so not overly breaded or crunchy. I'm sure all of their sauced fried meat dishes must be equally good. We had excellent service! It's a small place but we were there pretty early at 5:30 pm and there was plenty of tables. The ambiance is great. It's a lovely corner spot and they have color drenched the inside green and the decor is modern. I recommend!! And I would love to come back and try different dumplings! read more
If there's a case to be made for Americanized Chinese food, it's Hidden Dumpling. Their menu panders to customers that tend to care less about authenticity and more about flavor in large portions, and there's nothing inherently wrong with that. I see the appeal even though I grew up with my mom's cooking and frequent visits to my local Chinatown. Impressively fast service for how busy they were. They immediately sat my friend and I, serving our beef noodle soup in mere minutes and our Xiao Long Bao approximately 10 minutes after. The Xiao Long Bao is acceptable in terms of the filling. However, it's on the drier side which can be partially alleviated by dipping them in soy sauce. I'm seeing that previous reviews share the same sentiment about the dryness. The beef noodle soup left me unimpressed -- substituting the usual beef broth with a tomato soup simply does not work. I'm trying my best not to critique this restaurant from an authenticity standpoint since they don't claim to serve anything true to native roots, but this broth swap made me chuckle. I'm assuming it was a price-saving measure. The beef itself tasted decent, especially with the addition of chili oil. The noodles tasted satisfactory as well, but I would have appreciated a higher proportion of beef relative to noodles. Despite their name, I'd wager a guess that their Chinese-American menu options fare better than the dumplings. Their broccoli beef, kung pao, and orange chicken all looked appetizing when I glanced at other customers' plates. If I do come back, I'll keep my eyes on those. read more
My friends have been raving about hidden dumpling house, and since they opened up a location in Midtown, Sacramento, it was the perfect opportunity to finally try it! They definitely have a very full menu, so choosing something may take time because everything does sound tasty. We ordered three different dishes to try, and this is one of those moments that I wish we had the ability to give half stars for ratings. This isn't a solid three stars, and it really waivers between 2- 2 1/2 stars We ordered the garlic green beans, and I specifically asked for them to be made very mild. What we ended up getting was a generous serving of the green beans, and they were filled with jalapeños, something that looked to be chili crunch, and very little garlic. The green beans were barely blanched and closer to not being cooked versus being cooked and garlicky which is what we anticipated. Braised pork mushroom buns. The filling was tasty, but not wow. The bun itself was very glutenous, and it just overall was underwhelming. Xiao Long Bao- ( soup dumplings) - these were incredibly disappointing. If you've not tried these, they're the "little purses" filled with soup broth, and a yummy meat filling. The dumpling itself was tough to bite into, and for a dumpling house, this absolutely should be one of their premier items. It's not There was literally no soup/broth in the dumplings. It was essentially a dumpling with a wet meat filling. The meat was underwhelming, and disappointing. Service was mediocre at best and the waitress seemed very disinterested in the entire process from taking our order,drinks, food, General service, etc. The total including two drinks and keep in mind this was for lunch, was close to $70. Will I go back? No. There are much better dumpling houses in and around Sacramento that make much more of an effort with their service all the way around, the food is consistently good first time through repeat visits. Hi-ya! So my friends and I came here for dinner and it was a great find. There isn't much else around, as the name kind of suggests a nice hidden find. The service was good, dumplings were good--and very hot. The soups were tasty, but what I found my delicious was the veggie greens, so well seasoned and the fried rice. We all had a few beer and a lot of food out on the patio. It's was a good clear night, and food came fast. TBH we were probably a little louder than necessary, but the staff was super nice. The bathrooms btw were super clean and had these really funny pictures inside. read more

The most adorable dumpling house serving some of the best dumplings that i ever had! The vibe in there was everything, very warm and welcoming. The decor is amazing and is filled with corgis in the most random spots! I really enjoyed the open kitchen concept. The limited seating added to the cozy charm. The wait wasn't long and our food came out quickly. So many options on the menu it was hard to decide. I already have some other dishes in mind that i would like to try the next time i visit! Most of these dishes come in family style so perfect for sharing. The portions were so big that even after sharing we still had leftovers and somehow the food tasted even better the second day!!!! Spots like this really make my heart and belly happy! Beautiful artwork on the building and a decent sized patio for Lil Yelper Lucie at Hidden Dumpling Midtown. We were starving and ordered a lot but seriously I always order a lot Lol. The Garlic green beens were fresh and plentiful but had mild flavor. The chicken chow fun was super fresh and light in flavor. The shrimp and pork XLB and shrimp shui mai were good. The best dumplings were the pork shrimp and chive dumplings. These had a perfect mix and strong flavors. Perhaps it's just a different philosophy of cooking here but both of us thought the food was good but lacked punch. Lots of dumpling places in midtown but only Hidden Dumpling House has a dog friendly patio. Lil Lucie gives a Paws Up approval. read more

We had our dog, and the accomodated with outside seating, which is much appreciated. Our server was very sweet and attentive, and even our dog liked her! (my dog is very shy, so i'm shocked she warmed up to someone!) We got garlic noodles, spicy garlic green beans, and the deep fried spicy wontons. Everything hit the spot, so much flavor, and the portions are so generous. I'm a huge green bean fan, and I couldn't finish only because there was so much! The wontons were good, i liked their crunch paired with the spicy chili oil. But my favorites were the garlic noodles. The way they make it is my favorite way to have it. Also tried their wintermelon tea and it was refreshing and sweet! I loved it. It's so cute here, perfect spot to have dumplings and chinese food. Had Chinese food here for the first time in FIFTEEN YEARS thanks to their gluten free options! We got the chicken/cilantro dumplings, the honey walnut shrimp and the singapore noodles -- everything was perfect and the portions were huge. I can't fathom how they got everything so crunchy and crispy and delicious despite being gluten free. I'm sitting here thinking about going back and it's barely been 24 hours. I'm that down bad. The outdoor seats during great weather was definitely the way to go. Service was top notch, you can tell its a family joint they take pride in. I hope they add the secret dessert to the menu soon, it's gonna HIT in the summer! read more

This is my third time at hidden dumpling, and the wor wonton soup is ALWAYS a staple for me, but I try to switch up my other entree. We got the duluxe pan fried noodle and most of the dish was cold, but some spots were warm, and I'm not really sure why? I'd come back, but just stick to the soups and dumplings. Service was good as usual and it was pretty slow as a Wednesday, so getting seating was easy. read more

I am so glad that I decided to order take out via Door Dash. This establishment makes one of the best hot and sour soups. I love that I was able to customize my protein. I added beef to my soup and it was a great addition. It was also perfectly balanced between the sour and the spice. I also tried the pan fried chive pocket. It was still nice and crispy by the time my order was delivered. I love all the toppings, which consisted of shrimp, eggs, chives, and glass noodles. A great dumpling house that also serves other Chinese staples in Midtown! This is a more upscale, mid-tier, Chinese restaurant, replacing what once was Lou's Sushi and then Midtown Sushi. While it is a little cramped, there are a few tables outside if you don't mind eating al fresco. The servers are polite and very hardworking managing both the line (usually there is a wait) and the tables. - XLB: delicious and made well but I wouldn't say they are the best in town (See Journey to the Dumpling or Tasty Dumpling) - Pineapple Fried Rice: this is one of my go-tos and I think they make a great one here. Good variety of shrimp and chicken and all the ingredients taste fresh. - Rice Noodles with Chicken: A simple dish, but this place does laud itself on have a lot of gluten free options. Solid, but I wouldn't say it was very memorable. read more

Super busy spot right on the corner of 28th and P. They had about 8-10 tables inside and lots of folks picking up takeout. The wait staff was really nice, checking in often and repeating our order before sending it to the kitchen. Our entrees came out super quick! The dumplings took a little bit longer, but the place was packed for the full 2 hours we were there. I would definitely order from here again read more

I really wanted to love this place after seeing all the hype on TikTok--the food looked amazing in photos. When we arrived, the restaurant itself was super cute with a nice aesthetic and good vibes, but it's very small inside with limited seating. The staff was friendly, which we appreciated, but unfortunately the food just didn't live up to expectations. We ordered several dishes, and most of them lacked flavor. The chow fun was especially disappointing--it just wasn't tasty at all. The orange chicken looked great, but honestly, I'd say Panda Express has more flavor. The chow mein and fried rice were also pretty bland. The chicken with vegetables was okay, nothing special. The highlight for us was definitely the chicken and cilantro dumplings--they were actually really good (which makes sense given the restaurant's name). Overall, it just wasn't for us. Despite the great presentation and atmosphere, the food didn't deliver, and I don't think my family and I would come back. read more
Super yummy place my friend introduced me to! I've been here a couple times and have not been disappointed. The first time I came was with my friend and we had the pork shrimp chives dumplings, xiao long bao, and the king pao beef combo plate. I ended up coming back with another friend and tried their spicy garlic green beans and Thai tea. The food is so delicious, it came out quick both times, and the atmosphere was very nice. They have inside and outside seating which is cool especially because they get packed quick. Staff were friendly and attentive and the restaurant is clean and beautiful. Hidden dumping house is a small Chinese restaurant with hand made dumplings and other traditional offerings. Their original location is in Elk Grove, so this midtown location is new and local. Parking can be difficult in this residential area, but the 2 block walk is worth it. We were in the mood for Mongolian beef and shrimp siu mai, a specialty of this establishment. We also added on an order of salt & pepper chicken wings. I usually order the salt & pepper crispy pork with jalapeño's but with chicken is was still delicious! I do like my jalapeños cooked a lil more to bring out the flavor though. Service was friendly, and really busy around 2pm on a Sunday.. filled with local residents and the like. Although the restaurant is small, the seating inside and additional seating outside is efficient and can cater to a lot of people so we were seated and helped right away. They have a tea boba place connected next door that you can order from, the Thai special tea was tasty. We definitely had an awesome lunch date and hope to visit again soon. read more

Restaurant interior is small but there is outdoor seating as well. The interior is cute and caught my attention. We ordered XLB, honey walnut shrimp, and chow fun with chicken. The portions were huge and it was the perfect amount of food for three people. The flavor of the chow fun was very light and lacking, but I liked the chicken. I wouldn't get the chow fun again because it was plain. The xiao long bao (soup dumplings) are made fresh so it takes a while to come out. The soup dumplings were good but nothing special.
