This is by far my FAV sushi spot in Sacramento AND it's risen even higher on my list because they expanded their menu! Friends and I hadn't dined here in awhile, so my eyes widened with excitement when I saw signs by the entrance for all-you-can-eat on certain days and at certain times and I saw sushi tacos on their menu! Their service and music are excellent. The ambiance is spacious, so when the restaurant is busy with diners, the sound is not an issue at all. The TV screens show sushi making videos that get our attention hooked. The robot server has happy music playing and sweet messages on its screen, like KIT, as it rolls away. Their beautiful food display right by the entrance is the perfect way to entice customers to keep it moving to get a table, and not hesitate, if they are new customers. Their rolls are the biggest I have ever had so far from a sushi restaurant and all of their sushi sections we have enjoyed so far have seriously caused a flavor explosion right at first bite! They do not skimp on sushi roll and sushi taco filling, further adding to why I give Sushi Hook five big stars! I am very happy this restaurant has survived and been patronized all these years, considering the pandemic and economic factors that have impacted the restaurant industry. My husband and I came in for lunch and noticed that they had an All You Can Eat (AYCE) option for $23.95 from Mondays through Fridays from 12pm-3pm. Each person can choose up to three items at a time. Our server was very sweet and friendly. There were about 2-3 other tables while we were dining, so it wasn't a long wait for our food to come to the table. The restaurant appeared clean, but the menus needed to be wiped down. They were greasy with some food residue. The rolls had four pieces per order and they were larger than expected, which I appreciated. We went with our Sushi Hook usuals: Lion King, Island, Broccoli, and Sexy Girl. The Broccoli and Sexy Girl rolls were okay; no complaints. However, the Lion King roll had cold rice. This threw us off since Lion King is a baked roll. The Island roll also didn't taste as good as I remember. I'm not sure if it needed more lemon or less sauce. It has been several years since I updated my review and I can at least say that the food is still decent, the quality is consistent, and the service has slightly improved. The restaurant layout has remained the same with its amber lights illuminating over everyone, but their popularity has increased over time, mainly due to their affordable sushi prices and large portions. When conversing with friends, family, or coworkers visiting the area and asking for a good sushi spot, many will tell you, "Sushi Hook." But why, I wondered? They're not the fanciest, the food quality is good but not excellent, the service isn't memorable. But after visiting here on and off for so long, it has just became a sushi staple in town. This is the place to go to for large groups because the sushi is affordable, the atmosphere is welcoming, and there is a huge variety of rolls to choose from. Not only rolls, but appetizers, entrees, drinks, etc. Their menu has expanded since years ago, and is accommodating to the general public for the entire family. Whether you like sushi or not, you'll find at least one item on the menu you would like. For my bougie taste buds that I've developed from trying so many restaurants, it's not quite my preference when I'm craving sushi, but from a nostalgic perspective, I would actually recommend Sushi Hook as a welcoming place for heartwarming sushi. I've moved out of Sacramento about 2 months ago, and still have yet to come across a sushi gem that brings people together with affordable dining. Had a good experience with my online order a few weeks ago and decided to try it again! Placed an order at 9:19. Received a thank you text, and then a confirmation text that said my three roll order would be ready at 9:49. I arrive on time. Order isn't ready, that's okay. I wait. Diners have mostly cleared out. Other people come in to pick up their orders with no problem. I continue to ask when it'll be ready. Couple more minutes, he keeps telling me. I waited thirty minutes for my order while the staff bumbled around doing nothing. Very frustrating and weird. I went here on a Tuesday evening and there were people inside but it wasn't crazy busy or anything. The service could be better, but the food makes up for it. They offer a wide variety of options on the menu. The rolls are especially impressive as they offer huge portions at a great price compared to other places. Back at our favorite sushi place!!! This place never disappoints. The service is always friendly. The price are reasonable and you get your food quickly. The restaurant is clean . They have all you can eat sushi Monday thru Friday 11-3pm. Ray ( our favorite employee) surprised us with two sushi taco samples. It's something new they are doing. Came here for to go order and here for the first time. Lunch menu is limited and the front desk server was rude and unaccommodating when asked if there was a gluten free menu. She immediately said "no everything in here has gluten". Very UNACCOMODATING and UNWELCOMING. Ordered the standard chicken teriyaki bento box (no sauce) which I was told would take 20 minutes. Another staff (possibly the chef himself) but not the front desk lady, came out to drop off my order. The chicken was ok; nothing to rave about. There are weekday specials such as Sapporo draft, and Sapporo Black and appetizer dishes. Like most places, specials do not include holidays so please keep that in mind. There's plenty of parking in the lot near the surrounding businesses. The bathrooms are clean. The servers are helpful and kind. Not having Sriracha at a sushi restaurant should be a crime! They had some in house hot sauce. But let me start with the good stuff. Went here with my cousins, they go here often! We ordered miso soup, CF roll, Philadelphia roll, kids teriyaki meals, gyoza and spicy edamame. The service was great and the food tasted good. I really liked the larger portions and the reasonable prices! For 5 people we only spent $170 for sushi which is unheard of. The highlight of our meal was also the robot that delivered our food, like okkkkkk living in the future. They have this one massive roll there though, it's called the "crack cocaine" (I know, crazy), but it's there and it's huge and my husband is a fan of that sushi roll because it's very unique. This review is about the lack of service. I went in to order take out the waiter sat a couple then nothing. I stood there waiting to be acknowledge and nothing. Two separate waitresses walked by and said nothing. Finally as another couple came into the restaurant the waiter said I'll be with you in a minute. I politely walked out and took my cash with me. Treatment like that makes you not want to spend your money there. Ambience is romantic and nice but doesn't cover for the sub par service. I also want to note the sushi isn't as fresh as it once was.
