I've tried this ramen spot a few times now. The first few times I came I was very satisfied with the quality of the ramen and the delicious flavor of the broth. Most recently, my friend ordered ramen that was more sprouts than ramen noodles which was disappointing. It's nice that the ramen spot is connected to the thai restaurant because your table can order from either/both places. The ramen side is smaller, decent customer service, and parking can be a little tricky due to it being off 16th and across the park. read more

I learned of another good ramen spot in Midtown. Surprisingly, one of the best ramen spots I've been to in Sac! I got the black ramen garlic which came with the usual toppings: roasted pork chashu , corn, green onions, bean sprouts, soft boiled egg, bamboo shoots, and actual fried garlic. The whole garlic cloves were plentiful and so much flavor. The description says fried, but they are so buttery soft, they taste more like they've been roasted or baked in the oven. I will 100/100 always order this ramen. Very flavorful broth. My husband got the chicken ramen, which I tasted, and it too had a flavorful broth. You choose your spicy level. I got medium which was basically mild. The portion and price make this a great deal for a quick dinner in Midtown. I love the late hours and the speed of which our food came out. We ordered the geso (fried squid) and the veggie tempura. I do not recommend the tempura. The batter was thick like carnival onion rings. They need to use panko for breading. The geso was ok, and served with an aioli sauce. Stick with the ramen. No need to waste stomach space on their appetizers. The right half of the restaurant is for Ramen 101, and the other side is for Orchid Thai. You order at the counter and get a number, find a seat. The servers came around and checked on us and helped us with any requests. The nice ambiance from the Thai side carried over to the Ramen side, but both casual. They do have chili oil and crushed red pepper at the table though! It is odd that they have you order and pay first then sit. The food was pretty good but it's better to order over the phone or in person as if you order online they charge quite a bit extra. Also if you're sensitive to plastic in your soup, be careful. When I needed napkins, I had to go over to the next dining area that is a Thai restaurant but ran by the same staff and kitchen. I did my best imitation of an aircraft marshaller to wave down staff. I did this twice, once for napkins and the other time for a to go container. Possibly having napkin dispensers on the table would be helpful. At least they had sauces and packaged chopsticks on each table. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen. It was beautifully presented. Visually gorgeous. The broth flavor was basic, it was not as flavorful as I am use to. It was not awful just lacking a rich distinct flavor. It was not bad tasting. It did have a beautiful opaque cream color though. The grilled pork belly slices were delicious. The marinated bamboo shoots and egg was tasty. Yum. The egg was served sliced at medium boiled consistency. Luckily because we ordered to go we were able to add more seasoning and reheat it on the stove because it was cool by the time we went to eat it. The size of the bowl was good for the price. When I went to pick up the food I was directed to the bar but there was no one there to tell me which order was mine or if I needed to validate anything before taking it. The menu is varied and inviting, and we opted for the pork ramen bowl, chicken katsu dish, and potstickers as an appetizer. The potstickers, while well-prepared, crisp, and flavorful, were somewhat let down by the accompanying sauce. The sauce was minimal and somewhat lackluster, which slightly detracted from the overall experience of the dish. The ramen bowl unfortunately fell flat. Though it was flavorful, the bowl arrived without the pork. Upon pointing this out to the staff, we were only provided with 2 out of the 5 pieces of pork that were supposed to originally come with the dish. Then an extra charge was recorded on our bill for the additional pork that had to be brought out. The service, in general, left some to be desired from us. Our drinks were never refilled, and the mishap with the missing pork was not rectified to our satisfaction. On a brighter note, the location is splendid, offering outdoor seating directly across from a park. The view from the patio was an absolute treat and added a significant charm to the dining experience. I go here all the time. I had tried nearby ramen places and their broth didn't have any flavor. This place always has flavor. I do admit sometimes they goof on the egg being flavorful or missing an item but it's overall still really good. I also have had their Thai food and appetizers like gyoza or geso fry and loved those. The service is usually quick and good. They mostly leave you alone once you have everything. When it's nice outside I love sitting outside next to the park. The food itself tasted sooo bad, we all had to put soy sauce, chili oil, siracha sauce, and chili powder for the soups to taste somewhat well. The soups literally smelled like feet. The garlic ramen plate came super oily that my friend had to ask if we could get something different, and he decided on the chicken rice plate, but the waiter brought us the chicken ramen plate. We asked if we could get a chicken rice plate, but by the time they had asked if he wanted it with broccoli and cabbage everyone else was done eating. At that point we just wanted a refund, but the waiter had still wanted to bring us the plate and so we had to ask for it to go. The only thing that was slightly good were the starters, that being the fried chicken, lumpia's, and the fried squid legs. We had also ordered the grilled squid but it was cold when we got it. We came in after a long day of walking around and visiting all the art galleries during second Saturday, and we found a craving for ramen. We were on our way to another place we promised to try, but to our luck it was closed for good. So we headed back and we heard pretty good things about ramen 101 so we decided to try it out. We ordered two bowls, one of the black garlic tonkotsu ramen, and one of the regular. Service was great and our food came pretty quick, but we were fortunate enough to come on a slower day. Presentation was fairly good, I'd say there could be more green onion topped with the ramen, but otherwise there was a solid balance. The black garlic ramen was some of the most delicious black garlic I've ever had. Where I was expecting just the black garlic oil, I was pleasantly surprised to see actual cloves of it - and quite a handful too! It made for a wonderful aroma, combined with some of the delicious chili oil they have available that you can spoon as much as you want. It made for such a fragrant bowl of ramen. I loved how intense the chili oil was as well, giving off a great numbing sensation. I also loved the egg that came already opened, with a perfect soft and jammy center in both bowls. For the ramen itself, the noodles had a great chew, but left me wanting more. I understand how tradition it is to have less noodles, but requesting more noodles without the chef present feels quite odd. I got maybe 5-6 good slurps in before running out. The chashu was also a little bit on the drier said, maybe overcooked, despite its wonderful bbq flavor. And the tonkotsu soup had an excellent milky white, but wasn't quite as pork tasting as I was expecting, in either of the bowls. There was also a ton of bamboo shoots which was great for my bf, but not super amazing for me. He also said he found a small bone in his soup, but that's probably super rare. Also incredibly nickpicky, you can't see the kitchen. Just a small detail for those that care. Overall, check out this place. It is great ramen in midtown and a fantastic alternative to the much longer wait times at ryujin. And if you love garlic, I highly recommend their black garlic bowl. It was very bland. I would not recommend or go here again. It was just ok and did not hit the spot for my ramen craving. We ordered tonkotsu ramen, seafood ramen, plus pot stickers, lumpia and crab rangoons. The tonkotusu ramen was very bland, the broth had no body and nothing close to the intense porky flavor I was expecting. I seasoned it with a large amount of soy sauce to give it some flavor. I also requested a simple substitution of corn instead of the mushrooms and bamboo shoots and they did not honor it which I thought was very chintzy, I mean I ordered a good deal of items and even paid for an extra egg on my ramen so I wasn't trying to cheat them, the corn was same price as the other veg so I really thought a simple substitution was reasonable, especially since the corn is likely cheaper anyway. The chashu pork was almost entirely globby fat with very little meat so that was also disappointing. Honestly I think I would have enjoyed instant ramen better. I didn't taste the seafood ramen. Hubby said it was good but he's not much of a ramen eater so probably didn't know the difference. I did note that it had very little seafood, I think 3 shrimp and a small amount of the teeny tiny scallops. I ordered delivery via Grubhub and for some reason it won't let me leave a review, which is probably why this place has 4.5 stars on that platform. This was my first time ordering from here and it will also be my last. Considering the lack in flavor this was way overpriced, it was like fast food quality instead of restaurant quality and should have been priced accordingly.. The order was well packaged and correct it just really lacked flavor. The sides were fine, nothing special, better than the ramen, I might rate them 3.5 stars. They came with little packets of sweet & sour sauce. The potstickers came with a packet of potsticker sauce that was more like soy sauce, it also had some chili oil on the side which was nice. I also asked for no utensils and was happy to see none were provided, most places will add them anyway even when you say you don't want them so I appreciated that I did not receive unnecessary plastic utensils. The delivery was very smooth. The driver was super quiet and I didn't even notice they had dropped the food on my porch until I got the text that it was delivered. For thai food, you wait to be seated and a server will come take your order. We ordered tonkotsu ramen and lumpia (filipino egg roll). The proteins were good (chashu, egg) but broth lacked depth of flavor and fell flat. The lumpia was lackluster as well. Total $46. It's an OK choice if you are craving ramen. read more

Fall 2020 I don't prefer leaving negative reviews but this establishment did not impress me or the rest of my party (2 other people). I went on a weekday early evening and was able to find parking about 1-2 blocks away. At the time, the restaurant was offering both indoor and outdoor seating. There was only 1 other patron inside but we decided to sit outdoors because the weather was nice. You order your food then sit down. This establishment also offers appetizers and rice bowls, but since it is called Ramen101 we all decided to try their ramen. On their menu, there are stars next to their Tonkotsu Ramen, Shoyu Ramen, and Black Garlic Ramen. I ordered their Black Garlic Ramen. One person in my party ordered the same thing as me and the other person ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen. The staff were friendly but the cashier was a little bit awkward. I wasn't sure if we were supposed to get the utensils ourselves or if they would bring it to us. I asked the cashier and she replied it can be either or... ok. Now onto the food. The food was served lukewarm. I was very surprised. We came for a hot bowl of ramen, but instead we were served a warm bowl. From the first sip, I was not satisfied because all I tasted was sodium. I actually love salty savory foods but this was literally just an overbearing amount of sodium. I'm not sure if we went on an off day, but honestly it was not good.
