How in the world have I not done a review for, Soku ramen bar?? Like, let me get my life together this place is a treat. I have coming to Soku for quite a few years now and I must say, I have eaten every kind of ramen they off, but there is one ramen that stands out above there rest and that's their vegan ramen. The broth is so flavorful not too salty. The veggies still have crispy to them and the noodles cooked to perfection with the perfect chew. The love getting extra broth for my ramen as it hits the spot. The service is nothing special. You walk in and seat yourself if dining in otherwise head to the counter for the staff to take your order. The restaurant itself isn't very big, but enough tables for a cozy amount of patrons. This is, overall, a "soft" 3. This meal wasn't bad...but it wasn't really noteworthy, either. The ambiance is relaxing, with traditional Japanese artwork along the walls. There were two other parties eating lunch, but it was still a peaceful setting. The server was pretty chill, and my water was always filled. I even got a fruit candy with my check The ramen broth was delicious....flavorful. traditional, and stayed hot the whole meal. The contents, however....were plain. No other word to describe the contents. Kinda boring. Also, disappointingly, the egg was COLD in hot broth, meaning it probably had been precooked....making me paranoid of salmonella. Soku is a very cute restaurant with tasty ramen, udon, and sando options. I ordered the spicy black garlic ramen and shred spicy edamame with my friends. I thought the broth was delicious, came out piping hot, the meat was a bit fatty, but the meal was very filling. It wasn't super heavy in garlic flavor which was ok and I added a little bit of chili oil for more spice which was great. The spicy edamame was delicious and came with little pieces of peppers and onions. My friend got the beef udon and I would definitely get that next time because it was amazing and super flavorful! We luckily got a table quickly because it was semi busy and parking was very difficult. It's located in a busy area near other restaurants so make time to find a spot to park. So excited to have happened upon this small "hole in the wall" ramen bar. Parking was easy with a plenty of spots right outside the restaurant and there was plenty of seating indoors, although we did arrive for a late lunch on a Friday. We ordered the Chasu ramen and spicy black garlic chasu ramen with the karaage chicken. The food came out quickly and very hot; I love my soup very hot, haha. The chicken was crispy on the outside and so tender on the inside. It was seasoned perfectly. I wasn't a fan of the sauce but the chicken alone was just enough! I loved my chasu ramen bowl. The homemade broth was so tasty and savory; I finish my whole bowl included all the broth because it was that good. The soft boiled egg was nice especially since they gave you the full egg and not just one half. They gave big pieces of meat which was nice and a lot of goodies in the bowl. My husband got the spicy black garlic chasu which was also good. The spice hits you in the back of your mouth and throat with that warm and tingling sensation all the way down to your tummy versus just spicy on the tongue which is nice. This was our first time coming here. It's at the end of a strip mall behind a Greek restaurant and down the way on in the same strip mall as a Cosmetology store and a sushi place. Parking can become an issue during peak times, but luckily we went on a Saturday for lunch and got a spot close by. It's a small restaurant They have 8 tables/booths. The table we sat at was in the middle and held 8 people. It was the only one open when we arrived. There is a cold draft when people open the door so that was a bit chilly. They have a single bathroom labeled customer on it. It was clean and spacious. There is a glass cases by the cash register. The cases on the left held drinks of all kinds including sake and beer. The case on the right might of held desserts, I wasn't close enough to see. Service was good. They came by several times to check on us and to refill our water glasses. We both ordered R1, Chasu Ramen for $13.99. It was delicious. It's the best Chasu I've every had, It was meaty and not too fatty like most of them are. My husband was going to order another Ramen, but was informed that the pork was fried so he opted for R1 with me. The broth was fabulous. My husband said that with out a good broth you don't have a good Ramen. The broth makes the difference. The noodles were fresh and plentiful. It also came with bean sprouts that gave it a crunch, mushrooms, and a egg. I recommend this place for there good ramen and I will be back. Cozy establishment in East Sac with an authentic Japanese feel. It's great for a get-together with a handful of friends if you're in the area. While the ramen did not taste bad by any means, I did expect a little more out of an establishment with a 4.3 rating. I opted for the spicy black garlic chashu ramen. The chashu and egg tasted excellent. I particularly enjoyed the egg's texture and yolky flavor. The noodles tasted plain though. I think they could have fared better if they had been soaked in the broth for longer. The large ratio of noodles to chashu further emphasized the plainness. The chicken karaage is a mixed bag. The texture felt quite soft; I personally would have enjoyed it crispier. However, they did a great job with the seasoning and I didn't even need the dipping sauce. I might give them a second chance. Some of the photos on here look more appetizing than mine, but that might speak more to my photography skills than their cooking. read more

Both said oh yes all the time - the older proceeded to tell us her daughter was home from college and they always have to come! Green onion pancake - fluffy and yummy! Good simple sauce Bao pork bun - pretty standard and nothing wow but still good (should have tried the tonkatsu sandwich!) Chicken karaage - lightly battered and cooked perfectly- sauce could have been a little smoother for my taste but it worked well with the dish! Yummy stuff! Beef and rice - this is a winner just like the ramen! We wanted the pork but they were sold out so we went with the beef! Ironically it was the dish the lady suggested as we walked in! Oh my it was AMAZING! The beef was delicious and the rice perfectly cooked with just a little of the sauce from the beef on the bottom and the broccoli was crunchy and delicious. Ramen is delicious. My usual is the black garlic. I've ordered the spicy ramen before and it truly was spicy. My friend said that the veggie ramen is the most flavorful. I didn't believe him at first, but doing a taste comparison of my pork-based broth, he was so right! So sometimes I'll get the veggie and add charsiu or chicken, if I really want some meat. For appetizers, I've had the geso, gyoza, and onion pancake. The star is the ramen for sure. This is a small and cozy place at the end of a little strip mall. I've seen lots of first dates here (LOL yes, I can tell it's a first date), work lunches, and parties of 4+ (but most tables/booths are set up for 2. Little bubs and I needed to find lunch on my day off, so asked her what she wanted to eat. "Noodles! Ramen!" So I looked up ramen near East Sac and landed on Soku. I was interested as well because of the sando pictures. We ordered tempura shrimp, chicken katsu ramen and the tonkatsu sandwich. The ramen was very good. I don't normally like the flavor of should broth because I've had really bad versions of it, but this was excellent. Great balance of salty and umami. The noodles were nice and chest and katsu was nicely cooked. Tempura shrimp were good too. Tempura was not heavy or craggy or too much batter. And the sando! Whooo so happy. Bread so soft and pillows, perfect ratios of filling to bread. And the tonkatsu was cooked nicely as well. Happy we found this spot, next time I guess we will bring the husband along haha read more

We like coming here for our ramen and/or katsu sando fix :) the staff is friendly and the food is delicious! I usually get their spicy Romen and hot tea (only comes in green). The spicy ramen gives a nice kick. It's a really good size (I would say it's a shareable portion) and hits home especially on a rainy day. The egg is perfectly runny and there are plenty of toppings. This review is only for to-go orders. When I'm craving a Japanese sandwich, I come here and order one to go. I've never eaten inside the restaurant, but it looks clean when I come here to order and wait for my food. Service is excellent and they always greet you and take your order in a timely manner. I usually see other costumers dining in and enjoying their food. I've only had the chicken Katsu sandwiches from here, and it is good. I enjoy it and it fills me up. You can go a la carte sandwich or with a side of fries. They also have ramen and a few other dishes, which I still have to try. I saw the reviews and came foe awesomeness, but was disappointed. I visited on a Thursday afternoon around 2 PM. The place was empty. Sat down, ordered my ramen with no green onions and it arrived super fast.... full of green onions. I let the only many working the front know and he apologized, took it back to the kitchen, and quickly brought back my same bowl with the green onions haphazardly scooped out. There were still a ton that had already sunk into the soup. So that sucked. I spent a good portion of my time fishing them out and making a little pile on a napkin. The guy saw me. Said nothing. Went with a friend for lunch. It was a Saturday but the restaurant was not too busy. We both got sandos (I got the tonkatsu, he got the chicken). Mine was very good - pork was crispy but not too heavy and fries were very nostalgic, like the kind you make in the oven as a kid. Solid price and good portion sizes. Definitely one of my go to places for a tonkatsu sando. My bf got the chicken curry rice bowl and wasn't disappointed either! My pork was cooked perfectly; krispy on the outside juicy on the inside. Wow. Just wow. We ordered out Spicy Chashu Ramen, Pork Dumplings and a Tonkatsu Sando. Everything was "best of" in terms of flavor and value. The ramen unlike many broths was rich and hearty. The pork just disappears, it's so melty and delicious. I was impressed with the dumplings too which was a surprise and the dough was substantial and didn't make me feel gross like others can. I was craving ramen the other day because it was cold and landed on this because of the good reviews. I ordered korokke, chicken karaage, and chasu ramen and split them with my spouse. The korokke was really nicely fried and was a great amount given the potato filling is well, filling. The chicken karaage was not crunchy or crispy at all. In fact, it came out fairly pale and soft looking. We sent it back. Lastly, the chasu ramen dish was massive! I was surprised at the portion and barely got through it. The ramen itself was tasty and there was a nice variety of toppings in it. The broth though, felt light and could have had more flavor and punch. The food was left me wanting more. Shoku is a really cute establishment. The location is a little bit hidden in the complex, but there is plenty of parking right outside. We walked in pretty late in the afternoon, so there weren't many people and we were immediately seated and given water. My friend ordered a smoothie and she loved it! Because the place is so small, we did hear the blender making her smoothie, but that was honestly part of the appeal of the place to us! As vegetarians, sometimes it can be hard to get a flavorful broth at a ramen place but I loved the broth at Shoku! There were plenty of veggies and the portion was perfect. In a nutshell; great place to stop by and enjoy some Japanese food, there's a few parking spots just to note since downtown parking is rather difficult. Props to our server as she was accommodating as she is kind. The booth was comfy enough and the table wasn't wobbly. It's a relatively medium-small place so it may be difficult to bring a big party of people here but as accommodating as they were they might be willing to make some arrangement granted depending on how busy it may be. Food was decent but is priced to fit downtown prices so I'd say the price doesn't necessarily fit the price but don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the food I ordered.
