My roomie recommended Ryujin, and after a tough workout, this really hit the spot. We went to the Sacramento location. To drink, I had the Thai tea. Always a go to go me. This had the perfect balance of sweetness. It was light and refreshing and balanced the rest of the flavors of the meal. I started with the seaweed salad. It was a solid seaweed salad. Good seasoning and texture. It was a good portion size as well. Melissa and Jonathan had the gyoza. They were stuffed full of meat, but I felt like the seasoning was a little less than and also they were unevenly cooked. I still tried one though because a gyoza is a gyoza. As my main, I had the karamiso ramen with a spicy miso based broth with seasoned ground chicken, veggies and chili threads for an extra kick. I enjoyed this bowl of ramen. It was the perfect level of spice. I am partial to ground meat in ramen, so I liked that this was an option. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted and seated immediately. The decor is simple and fairly elegant, I liked the seating with an open bar type of area. I got the Karamiso ramen, the spice level was okay, but upon tasting the broth, you get a rich flavorful punch of pork flavor with sourness. I like the richness of the broth and sour flavors so I was drawn to it. My wife got the Aka Red Tonkotsu ramen, the broth was definitely lighter, and the spice level was abut the same as the one I got. Went here on a Saturday night with three other people and we waited for about 15 min. We walked here from my friends place so parking was not tough for us, but parking can be limited. Our waiter was outgoing and made eating there a great experience. I got the aka (red tonkutsu) and I felt like the broth needed a bit more flavor. My husband got the black tonkotsu and once he tried mine, he wished he had got mine. My son is a picky eater, yet ate 2 bowls of tonkotsu. There is free parking right next to the restaurant in the Safeway parking lot. We found a parking spot right away. We walked in on a weeknight at around 6 pm. There was no wait and we were able to be shown to a table right away. We were immediately given water and menus. The wait staff is very efficient and quick which worked out as we were in a hurry. We ordered from someone different than who sat us and brought us water. Within 5 minutes of ordering we were served, amazing! The ambience is casual and not fancy. Been coming here for over 10 years. Best ramen in Sac!!! They recently remodeled and upgraded their tables and chairs as well as their take out bowls. Although the prices went up with it, the overall experience eating in the restaurant has improved. They also upgraded their POS and checking out is much faster. The Aka tonkotsu is my favorite by far but the black garlic is also fantastic. When I have leftovers, I add the two together and it's out of this world. The gyoza are soft and pillowy on top and crisp on the bottom. There is usually a wait and always worth it. Parking is a pain but I've never been towed out of the Safeway parking lot. Thank you to my fellow bestie and Yelp Elite, Chris, for introducing me to this place! I was thinking about what ramen place to eat while I was in Sacramento, and the one place that came to mind for both of us was this specific place. It hits even on a really foggy night, and much better when you have company. Upon entering, we were greeted with the pungent smell of broth, fresh noodles, and welcomes from the staff. The warm hospitality definitely made us feel at home, and with ease. The tables were clean and so were much of the things that were there. The noodles were pretty good, but what I was a little disappointed in was the lack of broth they had put into the bowl. While all of the ingredients were in my bowl, it didn't really taste that complete. Among the handful of ramen spots in Midtown, Ryujin serves as a jack of all trades. The place is well-maintained with friendly servers and most importantly, delicious ramen. I opted for the aka/red tonkotsu which comes in a medium-thick spicy broth. The chashu nearly melts upon tasting it and the noodles have a sufficiently soft texture to them. I imagine this must be a fan favorite on the menu. Overall solid dish; the broth just needs a little more concentrated flavor to become stellar. I nearly chuckled at my vegetarian friend's ramen. It looked unappetizing and I felt kind of bad even inviting her here in the first place. Tonkotsu ramen undoubtedly has its limitations when adhering to vegetarian standards but man, they surely could have come up with something better. She confirmed my suspicions a couple days later by telling me that it tasted very underwhelming. Above average ramen as long as you don't pick the vegetarian option. It was a great Friday night dinner with family. We ordered Tonkotsu Ramen (Kuro), Mabo Ramen, Karamiso Ramen, Chicken wings, Karaage, and dumplings. It was lots of food that we ordered. At the end, we had to take home. We were full but due to the delicious nature of Ryujin Ramen's servings, we couldn't stop appreciating the foods that we ordered. Staff were really courteous and accommodated us. I have been to this place before and have to admit, one of the best Ramen place I've been to till current. And trust me, I have been to a lot of them. Was able to get a table after some time and even with how busy things were, was still served excellently and the food didn't take too long at all. Red + black ramen with an extra egg 8.8/10 This meal saved my life when I was absolutely destroyed and hungover from New Year's Eve . I highly recommend mixing red and black the broth was perfect. Noodles are solid. Soft boiled egg perfect. Chasu solid as well. I got mine without cabbage bc I feel like that doesn't belong in ramen personally. Really good service! My friend is under the weather and craving ramen so we decided on Ryujin and ordered to go. We both ordered the Kuro Tonkatsu Ramen with an extra egg and I got mine with cucumber. The restaurant was very busy, had a wait list and tables were full. Based on that and the over 4 star rating, I expected it to be delicious. It was very basic for a ramen house. The egg was cold inside. The noodles reminded me of top ramen. And there was not much flavor or richness to the broth (especially for having garlic oil in it). It just seemed very plain and basic honestly. The yakitori was well cooked and had good flavor. So maybe some of their non ramen dishes might be better. As far as service goes, it was so busy that no one walking in was being acknowledged. Ryujin Ramen offers not only ramen, but rice dishes and cold noodles. I came here with family and it being a cold day, we all opted for Ramen. When we arrived every seat was taken. I added my name to the list and it was about a 5 minute wait. Service is fast and tables seemed to turn quickly. I really enjoyed my Kuro Tonkotsu. The chasu was well flavored and tender. The steamed cabbage, kikurage mushrooms and green onions was a good counter balance for the rich tonkotsu broth with garlic oil. 10/31/2025 Came her for lunch out of town. The inside was... not that pretty and on the gloomy side. The booths were pretty old and there was a very heavy bleach smell. But the staff were all very friendly. They were like Chinese. The service was fast. I got the shoyu ramen ($16). It was okay. Not the best nor special. I really don't have much stuff to say about this place. The egg was excellent, though, inside was perfectly gooey. Some ramen restaurants accidentally overcook them. We were the first to arrive when it just opened up for the day. 4 stars because my vegetarian ramen was bland. I don't eat pork, so I ordered the vegetarian ramen. Wish they have seafood option. Perhaps, just a suggestion a tad of miso paste, tamari, sake, dried shiitake mushroom and comb, chili flakes, tahini, firm tofu fried, seaweed... might give it more flavor. This is a solid ramen spot in Downtown Sac! I have been here a few times and the quality is consistent. Service is great as well because the employees are friendly and attentive. The first two times I came here in the afternoon it was packed, but on a Monday evening it was not busy at all. I got seated right away and was provided with water and the menu. They have many great options, and this time I got the Kuro tonkatsu ramen. I thought the black garlic oil would be strong because I love black garlic and garlic in general, but there was not much taste or fragrance to it. The soup was warm, flavorful, and had the right amount of salt. The marinated soy egg is so good! I am sure I can eat a dozen of them in one sitting. Yummy ramen! Like, who doesn't like ramen? I always have either lunch or dinner here with friends. I enjoy ramen in both the summer and winter months. Ryujin is that place and one of the best ramen spots next to Shoku ramen in East Sac. When I arrive it's normally a little bit of a wait for a table if you dine inside , but you dine outside in their patio you will be seated immediately. The customer service can be hit and miss sometimes, but nothing too crazy. The inside is a decent size and the patio is in the smaller side. Now to the important part.. the food. I've have tried their black garlic Tonkonsu (sp?) the veggie ramen, gesso, Kaki fry, chicken wings, gyoza and wakame. Everything this always delicious I have complaints about the food. I love you can add extra toppings, noodles and broth for a small fee for when you are extremely hangry. The also have alcoholic beverages I you want to enjoy a drink such as sake or beers. That said, I honestly don't get the hype. I ordered the red ramen and it was just okay. Nothing really stood out. The flavor wasn't anything special and it kind of reminded me of something you could make at home with a decent instant ramen base. The chashu wasn't charred and the egg was overcooked. I was hoping for that soft custardy center but it came out fully cooked. We showed up around 11:30 on a Sunday and there was already a long line. By the time we left it was even longer. I kept thinking maybe this is just the ramen spot in Sacramento so everyone flocks here, but for me it didn't live up to the reviews. Have been to this spot multiple times now and it always hits the spot! The place is popular for a reason! They have indoor and outdoor seating, and bar seating. If it's not busy then you'll be sat right away and even when it's busy the food comes out quick! I've tried the black ramen and the red ramen, I prefer the spicier red ramen! No because this ramen spot is so slept on. The food comes out within like 5-10 minutes, always taste fresh, & in an elite walkable location to grab bobba or desert nearby after a meal! Did I go to the wrong place, this Ramen place is rated 4.5 stars overall? I rushed to get here craving good hot bowl of ramen noodles. I ordered the Tonkatsu red: 1) Broth, lukewarm and had no depth and hardly any spice. 2) Noodles: Al dente at best and texture-wise not slippery and bouncy like I expect. Somewhat doughy taste. 3) Egg - cold inside. The cold premade egg was thrown in there at the end and did not get even get hot. 4) Pork - slice of pork had a gamey taste and almost as though a freezer burn to it. I could not make out the horrible aftertaste. Service person never came by to check on how things were and appear to be preoccupied with their phone. It was not that busy that night either.
