    Kuro / Black Tonkotsu Ramen
    Diane R.

There is free parking right next to the restaurant in the Safeway parking lot. We found a parking spot right away. We walked in on a weeknight at around 6 pm. There was no wait and we were able to be shown to a table right away. We were immediately given water and menus. The wait staff is very efficient and quick which worked out as we were in a hurry. We ordered from someone different than who sat us and brought us water. Within 5 minutes of ordering we were served, amazing! The ambience is casual and not fancy. As for the ramen, it was unremarkable. It was a little bland and the pork was very thin and not flavorful. The spicy ramen was not spicy. We do not plan on returning.

Not sure why this place has decent reviews. Unfortunately it's honestly not that great - but maybe I'm too picky or I have really high expectations when it comes to ramen. This place is honestly really mid. Anyway, came here around 8pm ish and sat down pretty quickly. Tried the red and white tonkatsu ramen. Sooo mid lol. Idk what else to say about this. But the red ginger really threw me off. Overall would Not come here again.

Attentive and friendly staff members! Great amount of seating area! I'm not a big fan of ramen but meeting up couples friends wanting to check it out !! Prices was affordable , large portion size but for me the broth was a bit on the salty side! Otherwise worth a try if you haven't visit but don't think I'll come back myself

Thank you to my fellow bestie and Yelp Elite, Chris, for introducing me to this place! I was thinking about what ramen place to eat while I was in Sacramento, and the one place that came to mind for both of us was this specific place. It hits even on a really foggy night, and much better when you have company. Upon entering, we were greeted with the pungent smell of broth, fresh noodles, and welcomes from the staff. The warm hospitality definitely made us feel at home, and with ease. The tables were clean and so were much of the things that were there. The noodles were pretty good, but what I was a little disappointed in was the lack of broth they had put into the bowl. While all of the ingredients were in my bowl, it didn't really taste that complete. I'll definitely be back to try some of their more renowned ramen noodles and dishes, but honestly the lack of broth was probably just a one-time thing.

Among the handful of ramen spots in Midtown, Ryujin serves as a jack of all trades. The place is well-maintained with friendly servers and most importantly, delicious ramen. I opted for the aka/red tonkotsu which comes in a medium-thick spicy broth. The chashu nearly melts upon tasting it and the noodles have a sufficiently soft texture to them. I imagine this must be a fan favorite on the menu. Overall solid dish; the broth just needs a little more concentrated flavor to become stellar. I nearly chuckled at my vegetarian friend's ramen. It looked unappetizing and I felt kind of bad even inviting her here in the first place. Tonkotsu ramen undoubtedly has its limitations when adhering to vegetarian standards but man, they surely could have come up with something better. She confirmed my suspicions a couple days later by telling me that it tasted very underwhelming. Above average ramen as long as you don't pick the vegetarian option. I'm on the fence on whether I'd wait 15 minutes again for a table.

It was a great Friday night dinner with family. We ordered Tonkotsu Ramen (Kuro), Mabo Ramen, Karamiso Ramen, Chicken wings, Karaage, and dumplings. It was lots of food that we ordered. At the end, we had to take home. We were full but due to the delicious nature of Ryujin Ramen's servings, we couldn't stop appreciating the foods that we ordered. Staff were really courteous and accommodated us. I have been to this place before and have to admit, one of the best Ramen place I've been to till current. And trust me, I have been to a lot of them. I haven't even yelp reviewed to so many of the Ramen place that I've been to. Alright, let's get back to my experience. My family thinks it's the best Ramen place. And I am glad I brought them here. I have to admit I am still devoted to being a Ramen crazy. Thank you Ryujin Ramen for not letting us (Ramen fans) down and having us crave for more Ramen. Highly recommended!!! "Once you go Ryujin, you will prefer this over other cuisine."

In a nutshell; Good Ramen, good sides, good service. Went on a very busy dinner rush hour. Was able to get a table after some time and even with how busy things were, was still served excellently and the food didn't take too long at all. Guess you can say with how busy it gets and the lines forming outside atests to the quality of the place. Overall, it was good experience despite how busy it was.

Stopped by on our way home for Ramen soup. Came in a little after 5pm and there was no wait. We were seated immediately. Service was great and food arrived quickly. We had the Shiro and Kuro Tonkatsu Ramen. Both were flavorful. Noodles were tender. Restaurant has a dim lighting but not dark. They seem to get busy. There was a few people waiting when we left. Parking can be an issue. It's hard to find parking near the restaurant. We ended up parking at the opposite side of the restaurant..back of Safeway. Parking spaces are tight.

Forgot to take pics of the dumplings lol But they tasted great! We had miso, creamy, and shoyu ramen and we ate it all. Everyone had bare bowls hahaha. The server was nice. The restaurant was clean. When everyone is in town this is our go to spot to hang out.

Red + black ramen with an extra egg 8.8/10 This meal saved my life when I was absolutely destroyed and hungover from New Year's Eve . I highly recommend mixing red and black the broth was perfect. Noodles are solid. Soft boiled egg perfect. Chasu solid as well. I got mine without cabbage bc I feel like that doesn't belong in ramen personally. Really good service! She didn't make fun of us being so hungover and miserable. I'm sure she's used to it haha Really clean inside and can also eat outside with plenty of tables. I also had the Japanese fried rice which I highly recommend and their katsu-don.

    Michelle D.

My friend is under the weather and craving ramen so we decided on Ryujin and ordered to go. We both ordered the Kuro Tonkatsu Ramen with an extra egg and I got mine with cucumber. The restaurant was very busy, had a wait list and tables were full. Based on that and the over 4 star rating, I expected it to be delicious. It was very basic for a ramen house. The egg was cold inside. The noodles reminded me of top ramen. And there was not much flavor or richness to the broth (especially for having garlic oil in it). It just seemed very plain and basic honestly. The yakitori was well cooked and had good flavor. So maybe some of their non ramen dishes might be better. As far as service goes, it was so busy that no one walking in was being acknowledged. As it was a to go order, maybe the service at the tables is more friendly and welcoming, but it was pretty lacking for those of us getting take out.

Date: Sunday, October 12th, 2025 Time: around 7:15pm Party of: 2 Meal: Dinner Reservation Made Thru: Yelp about an hour beforehand *Takoyaki ($10) *Karaage ($9.50) *Aka Tonkotsu ($16) *Shiro Tonkotsu (16) *Ozeki Platinum ($14) One the way back to SF from Lake Tahoe, the hubby and I stopped by Sac to grab some ramen. I found Ryujin thru Yelp. It had a good amount of reviews and a good rating, so I figured why not check them out. I made a rezzie, but I didn't really need one. Flavor wise the tonkotsu was fine. Savory, but not as flavorful and rich as I would like. The toppings were standard. What was really disappointing were the noodles. They were kinda hard instead of being springy and chewy. Maybe they were under cooked? Otherwise, the karaage was nicely fried. The takoyaki was a weird shape, not round. The pieces had a flat bottom. If you want noodle soup on a cold day, this might fit the bill. Hopefully the noodles were a one off and only pertained to me that visit. REVIEW #3866

We came here on a Sunday mid afternoon and they were busy. Sign in please. The wait wasn't long at all, we were able to get seats at the bar which was fine. Service was friendly and food came out fast. And they all tasted great!

Not sure if they take reservations, but we arrived around 30 minutes after opening. A short wait for the table to be ready for the big group. Parked at DOCO East and was an easy walk. They don't validate parking though. To share we tried some of their crispy brussels sprouts (mint, cashew, chili caramel) and pickle plate (kimchi, veggies). This visit I got the Mushroom Paitan ramen which had: rich cashew cream, pork belly chashu, half ajitama, shimeji mushrooms, negi onions. The seasoned egg was good, though I wish you got more than just one half of it as default. The broth was rich and the pork was great. The noodles were thin but firm I also tried their Kodaiko Palmer drink (nonalcoholic), which had earl grey and another Japanese tea profile. The other special mocktail was a sparkling/spiced cranberry lemonade. If you're not into pork they have chicken ramens and soupless styles too. If you're not into noodles they also have salads, donburi rice bowls and sandos. It was a bit loud of an environment (music) to hear each other, but then again we were at a long table/large group. I don't know what kinds of ramen these people have had before, but the three we tried seemed more experimental than anything else. Also, we both threw up upon arrival at home. Maybe it was bad luck with what we ordered or something but not going to give it our usual 2nd chance because of the area. DOCO is getting ghetto fabulous. I got the black ramen garlic which came with the usual toppings: roasted pork chashu , corn, green onions, bean sprouts, soft boiled egg, bamboo shoots, and actual fried garlic. I will 100/100 always order this ramen. Very flavorful broth. My husband got the chicken ramen, which I tasted, and it too had a flavorful broth. You choose your spicy level. I got medium which was basically mild. The portion and price make this a great deal for a quick dinner in Midtown. I love the late hours and the speed of which our food came out. We ordered the geso (fried squid) and the veggie tempura. I do not recommend the tempura. The batter was thick like carnival onion rings. They need to use panko for breading. The geso was ok, and served with an aioli sauce. Stick with the ramen. No need to waste stomach space on their appetizers. (He felt a bit hungry after the meal but noted his stomach had settled.) As a party of 5, two of us shared one pot (or two broths) and three shared another pot. The chicken wings appetizer was very flavorful too! (The server listed three options for wings and we went with the one that included jalapeños.) For noodles, you can choose between instant ramen, fresh ramen or vermicelli. It also came with a small scoop of ice cream at the end of the meal! I think I'll come back for AYCE soon. All the ingredients were fresh and very tasty.

Cozy restaurant with both à la carte and ACE options…read more I came here on a rainy weekday and it did not disappoint. We ended up going with the ACE option, which is worthwhile if you are hungry. The quality of the meats were great and the side offerings were extensive. They even let you sample the various broths you can pick from, and any of them can be made "spicy." The service was quick and they come by often to make sure you are getting what you need. Definitely recommend!
