We came here with high expectations because other buffets in the area no longer serve cold crab. Unfortunately, most of the crab legs were pretty skinny and hard to crack. First time checking this out during soft opening. Remember, soft opening is a soft opening as there will be improvements made. When you first walk in, it felt spacious and clean. We paid per person then was sat down at our table. Like any other buffet, we got our plates n helped our self to food. The orange chicken was my favorite. They had variety of Chinese dishes including black bean clam, a cheese stuffed mussels, and much more. Hello, I had a group with me, and we had a terrible experience. The service was terrible; the workers were all on their phones, and plates were still on the table. We even had to ask to restock because nothing was being brought out. The workers stared us down because we had asked when the restock would happen since there was no food available. The food is one star; it is not fresh at all, very cold, and has been sitting for hours. We just wanted something fresh. The prices aren't true to online it says 23 and each person came up to 30. Me and my big family (party of 19) heard this new buffet had just open, so we decided to go here for dinner. When we got there, it was somewhat packed but not crowded. The inside was really new and nice but the lights were dim down so it feels dark inside too. The workers were friendly and helpful when we got there. After getting seated, we head to the food area and sadly there wasn't a good selection of different dishes. Some were cold and some wasn't fill. It took a while for the server to come refill it. Especially the seafoods. We didn't enjoy our time there so we end up only staying for an hour and left. They can do better on food options for the price we paid. First it was called Todai and later called Tomi. Went during Friday dinner and paid around $61 for 2 (tipped 18% cause I forgot they tack on 5%). The ambiance is nice. Clean. The fake marble really make it looks nice. Bathrooms were clean. Service is fine. They come around enough to clear out your table. Never thought "why haven't they cleared / I need them to clear my table" Food: the selection is fine. You maybe could do 2-3 rounds of the hot food. Flavor is there just salty. Sesame balls, snails, and deep fried octopus were our tops. Mongolian bbq is probably the better thing here. True, few selection but still- where else can you find that in the area. Tip: ask them not to spray so much sauce on it. Makes it super salty when hit it 3-4 times. Sushi: ehhhhh. Probably the easiest skip next to the dessert. Reminds me of like Safeway deli quality. Crab legs: great that you get it for the price you pay. I know you gotta pay almost double to get it at hard rock or red hawk. It is what it is. For some reason we found it to be salty. Came here for the lunch buffet. Some food they did well some not as well as I hoped it would be. I tried some of their chow mein and fried rice. The chow mein was on the salty side but noodles themselves were cooked perfectly, while the fried rice was bland and dry. The walnut shrimp minus the walnuts because I didn't see any was good but some pieces had too much batter while some had a good balance. The salt and pepper shrimp was tasty, the baked mussels and scallops were both good but heavy if you load up on them, potstickers were good but a bit cold when they just opened 30 minutes before, and the chicken wings had a good balance of salt and pepper. The sushi selection was underwhelming but whatever I got was decent for a buffet. Too much imitation crab. The egg drop soup was nice and hot with a good flavor. I did not try their Mongolian station since I was full. But my coworkers who tried it were happy with what they got. The only thing I miss is won ton soup, although they have at least 3 other different kinds of soups to choose from. I like the fact that we can get our own drinks. When my family and I arrived here last Friday night, it was really hot outside and we had to wait in line to get our names taken for a table. Before you are assigned a table, they give you a ticket with a number on it. When you reach the front of the line, they will call your number to collect the check before seating you. There are no waiters per table, only the busboys who come around to collect the dirty plates. The service is very quick which is a plus when it comes to clearing the table. All of the food and drinks are self serve, so there is no need to wait forever just to get a refill for your drink. I tried just about everything and here are my thoughts: skip on the seafood that everyone mainly has their eyes on like raw oysters, crab legs, crawfish, and the snails. The crab is just thawed out and then served as is so the meat isn't plump instead it's very watery and bland. Even the butter didn't help with the texture, the oysters are not very fresh which isn't surprising, crawfish is bland too even with the Cajun seasoning on the outside and it's overcooked - too soft to peel. The snails were better than the other 3 listed above in my opinion, it was tolerable to eat more of. The baked mussels and oysters weren't too bad but a bit overcooked and needs more seasoning. Pass on the carbs too, sushi was very mediocre, mainly rolls and no sashimi options. The fried calamari was good and the broccoli beef! I'd suggest coming for the lunch option than dinner, seafood is an easy pass and I would just go elsewhere for seafood buffet. This spot could use more variety, but they're on top of refilling the empty trays quickly. Don't be afraid to ask for something, but also be kind because this place was busy far too quickly especially at the hibachi and crab legs area. The sushi isn't anything to write home about, mainly imitation crab filled rolls. No fish of any kind, other than ground up salmon or tuna for the toppings on the rolls. The hibachi grill was decent, not overly salty like other buffets. I thought for 15.00, drink included, the value can't be beat. The scalloped shells with baked crabmeat with scallops actually had large pieces of bay scallops on each shell. The deep fried squid was good also. I was surprised that there wasn't any ice cream. Soups were really unappealing and a waste of space. There wasn't a large variety of foods to choose from, but you'll find something to eat for the price of a McDonald's meal deal. The reason they' lost 2 stars is the food..the food was decent nothing to rave about for a buffet. Everything was bland..the garlic steamed oysters were bland..the garlic? Wasn't fresh..must be commercially processed garlic..as far as the best I had there was the shumai..texture was good but it was also bland. The Beijing beef was edible..lacked flavor and the texture was worse..low grade beef..again this is a buffet. Highly anticipated to go but work schedule prohibited my visit sooner. I'll give it time and give them another go. The best Chinese buffets I had in the past that are no longer around was Mizu(Natomas) and Moonstar(Daly City) in Northern California. Cost was $17.99 per person which includes access to the soda dispenser for all you can drink soda. You pay first at the cash register then you go to the host where you present your receipt and are then shown to your table. First the positives: Since this was the week of its soft opening, the restaurant was shiny new and clean. Used plates were quickly cleaned off tables while customers went for seconds. A large parking lot in front of and on the sides of the restaurant. The food was well presented (no mess). The negatives: The food was okay. Nothing great. But nothing horrible. As another reviewer said, the food is "buffet quality". The food at Captain Buffet will fill you up but I think would have had better satisfaction taste-wise eating at a Panda Express. They have limited types of nigiri and rolls and it tasted decent. Snow crabs were only served cold and they were slow to refill, as they were gone quick once brought out. They tasted really salty and there wasn't much meat to them. Raw oysters were always available and they tasted ok. However, I think it was the oysters my stomach didn't agree with. Came here for my brothers 14th birthday. The place is clean and had open seating. The buffet is small with a variety of sushi, seafood, Chinese food, and Mongolian grill. Most of the hot food options were cold and some food looked like it had been sitting under the heating lamp for an extended amount of time. A standout dish for me was the salt and pepper shrimp. It was crunchy, had the right amount of seasoning, and nice heat from the jalapeños. The best thing I had was from the Mongolian grill bcus it was hot and fresh off the grill.
