We honestly love this place and Grace is the absolute best. When my sister and I have our sisters day out, we always come here. It's usually never busy and it's just an amazing atmosphere for lunch or an early dinner. The salmon belly, yellowtail belly, ocean trout, and albacore belly (all nigiri) are absolutely delicious. If I could eat it all I would order like 10 orders lol. The oyster shooters are also bomb and something I always tell people they have to try. We've been here about 4 times and only had one disappointing experience, which was their AYCE Food & Drinks Super Bowl event. I prepaid $280 for 3 people including a $40 tip and if I'm being completely honest it was such a disappointment. Service was honestly pretty terrible that day. When I called beforehand, the woman on the phone told me, "You can come whatever time you'd like because you have a reservation and we'll have it ready for you." Of course hearing that, I assumed that meant seating would be guaranteed. Unfortunately when we arrived around 4pm like I told the woman on the phone that was the time I will be coming in at, it didn't seem like reservations actually had seating set aside. While they were trying to figure out where to seat us, the only open booth was occupied by who we were told was the owner. The owner seemed pretty reluctant to give up the booth for customers who had prepaid and pre-tipped and were told our reservation seating would be ready. After about 3-5 minutes the server eventually convinced them to give us the booth while she was trying to see if any other tables might open up. Being able to overhear that interaction between the owner and staff honestly wasn't ideal and it made us feel like we were encroaching, which is never a great feeling as guests. The AYCE itself was also a bit underwhelming. I probably should've clarified beforehand, but it was more limited buffet style rather than made-to-order AYCE sushi like I was expecting. The options were limited and not really what I personally look forward to when going somewhere for AYCE sushirven for this type of event. That was the only time I've been genuinely disappointed at Wedashii and I wouldn't return for that type of event again. Now we usually just go on Wednesdays or Thursdays to see Grace. I don't know the sushi chef who worked when he we came this past Wednesday, but he was super friendly, told us about the day's specials, and made some really delicious sushi. We definitely appreciated that. As someone who has been a server in sushi restaurants for the past 5 years, I always try to encourage customers not to let one bad experience stop them from coming back to a place they normally enjoy. That's exactly how I approached this situation. We've had two great visits before that event and another good experience after. That's why I'm still giving Wedashii a 4-star review even after that disappointing event. The weekday staff, Grace especially, and the overall quality of the sushi are what keep us coming back. The interior is dark and more bar/lounge in appearance. Pricing was average for a dinner bento, which has all the expected items of a bento. For a great price, there was a great spread of gyozas, California rolls, salad, rice, and orange slices for dessert. Certain main items could be added to this bento box, and I chose the salmon teriyaki, which tasted fresh, was nicely cooked, and was a reasonable portion size. My friends ordered similar bento boxes, and people who ordered more simple dishes like fries and wings still commented on the delicious quality of these items. The first time I had Wedashii was actually their cart at a Kings game, so I was looking forward to actually trying their storefront. I ordered the Mimi's Special which happened to be on their Happy Hour menu, so it was only $12. Happy hour is everyday between 3:30PM-6:00PM. I was very impressed with the roll. I'm not generally a fan of raw fish, but thought the roll tasted very fresh. Being Happy Hour, I thought $12 for 8 pieces was not bad at all. It's been 48 hours since eating here and I'm still not 100% sure how I feel about this place, but here we go. Things I liked: the Ol Dirty Bastard quote in neon lights. The sushi chef was very nice. The spam masubi was decent. Things that were fine: hand roll, some of the nigiri pieces. Things I didn't love: the rice provided to us wasn't consistent: one batch was seasoned well and one wasn't. The English cucumber white line wasn't well balanced (too sweet and too sour). A lot of the fish was torched and didn't add to the experience. The hamachi in the pepperfin was not firm enough, was falling apart every time tried to pick it up. Bad things: The karaage was pale white. Mostly unseasoned. Did not look or taste appealing. The inside is not really setup well for a sushi restaurant. We sat in a booth that has quite a bit of distance between the 2 sides. Their happy hour is 3-6 Monday-Friday. We tried the spam masubi, albacore tuna for appetizers. For entrees I got the GOAT roll - this was a very heavy deep fried roll, like just a lot going on and the fry on it was heavy, I only could eat half. I also got the Knee deep roll which I enjoyed. Their tempura shrimp isn't that crunchy in the rolls so idk if there's just too much going on or too much sauce. I only tried the Ranye west and these rolls are way tooo delicious and pretty spicy, got to ask for no siracha if you don't like to much spice. It's also super filling. It did not look like it was cooked properly and I had to cut into it to ensure that it was cooked through. Save yourself the trouble and buy the Chicken Karaage at Trader Joes. Additionally, there were a lot flies when we visited, which I find unsanitary and unwelcoming. This is unusual because I was unsure of where they were coming from because this is not an open air restaurant. Their sushi is actually extremely good though. The rolls are extremely large and flavorful. So skip the appetizers and head straight to ordering rolls. I think 3 rolls is perfect for two people! read more

I stood by the door because I wasn't sure if I had to wait for the hostess to seat me or I can grab a seat anywhere. One of the sushi chefs at the bar saw me and said I can sit anywhere I liked. My coworkers and I ordered for pick up last week and I was quite disappointed. Let me start by saying, their customer service is great. I called to ask my questions before calling back to place my order and the gal on the phone was very nice and patient. My bento box was $16 for 3 items, a huge portion of rice, salad and miso soup. I thought this was such a great deal and was so excited to dig in! Until I dug into my VERY DRYYYY rice. I couldn't really enjoy my meal because the rice was so dry. It's almost as if I was given day old rice. I'm talking, perfect rice for making fried rice not for serving a bento box. Luckily my 3 entrees were good. I had the tempura which was a good mix of veggie & shrimp and batter was airy. The salmon sashimi was buttery and fresh. But the tonkotsu was dry and the sauce was bitter. Aside from my meal, a few of my coworkers had old rice in their sushi rolls. One specially said it was "crunchy" and another coworker said her rice was perfect...I'm not sure if some of us were just given the old batch and others were given the freshly made rice but it was not cool. I was a little hesitant when my buddy recommended this spot, because of a mediocre DoorDash experience I had several months ago, but I figured I had to give them a fair shot. Late 90's and early 00's pop RnB had our table breaking out singing hits from Usher, Mariah Carrey, T-Pain, etc. This review would probably be 3 stars if not for the stellar playlist to be honest. There were 5 of us and we came in around 3PM so it wasn't very busy. However there was only one server and it did seem that we waited too long to be helped, and in between table visits, as there were only 3/4 tables sat at the time. My friends commented a couple times on the server's demeanor but I think she just wasn't using the "customer service voice" and I don't mind people not being fake nice as long as they aren't rude or mean. Now for the food. The appetizers were not great. Of the Gyoza, Calamari, and Karaage Chicken, the Gyoza was the only one that wasn't very bland and unmemorable. We ordered some fries too, and those were actually particularly good. The sushi was great. Donning snarky names like the Ja Roll and We The Best, they were all named after hip hop and RnB artists that matched the catchy playlist. Our favorites were the No Half Steppin and the GOAT rolls. I enjoyed my We The Best roll as well. The sushi selections were a combination of classics and experimental creations put together by the chef, who has been making sushi for close to 20 years, according to the menu. If you're looking for something fun and new, I'd recommend this spot but skip the appetizers and get an extra roll instead. If you're picky about your sushi and prefer the traditional experience, this might not be the spot for you. read more

The layout inside has a few booths and a large bar top. The chairs don't fit the bar so it feels like you have over reach or get up to get what you need, but didn't bother me. Server gave good recs. Wow. Blown away by this place. Tucked away off of the busy J street on 18th you'll find this amazing full bar / delicious sushi restaurant. You are greeted immediately by the amazing team when you walk in who get you seated pretty quickly. I highly recommend sitting at the sushi bar. The sushi chefs are extremely personable (we were treated like VIP's by Anthony). They keep the drinks flowing and are very attentive to make sure you get that other roll you held off on ordering but regretted not ordering it 3/4 of the way through your meal.
