A Sinclair gas station. Not all pumps have hoses that go around your car. The poor women in front of us had to reposition her car for the pump to reach. Thankfully our hose made it to the other side. This is a very tight gas station off of a busy street. It works best if you're lucky it's empty and you can just pull in. If it's busy it's tight to get in with cars facing both directions depending on where they drove in. The price of gas here is usually less than the local gas stations. I recommend this place for their cheap gas. read more

This place has gone through several transitions: Scary and empty, new ownership that gave it a complete and total overhaul, then sold again and re-named, "Shift Change". When the current owner took over, everything had already been updated and cleaned, however they went even further and improved upon it. They started by having a beer and wine "consultant" overhaul the section, to include more local and higher end selections. As they transitioned, the items being phased out were drastically on sale, and I was able to score "Not Your Father's Root Beer", "Not Your Father's Ginger Ale", and a few other six-packs for under $5 each. Score. They also have a new promotion where you can build your own six pack, which is great when you cannot make up your mind. One thing of note, some of the new items are pricey, so take note of the specials. They have decent priced gas (cheaper than down the street), fresh coffee, the typical grocery items and carby snacks, and some fresh food. For some reason, they do not have pretzels. Odd, because pretzels are to beer as peanut butter is to jelly. They are still making changes, and the one clerk I spoke to seemed to be barely 18 and could not recommend a good cider, but he was a nice fellow. It is a good neighborhood store to stop in and pick up last minute items. I still want my pretzels. read more

Excellent beer selection with fantastic organization and layout to boot. I especially like that they break down 4-packs and 6-packs so that customers can just pick up 1 or 2 bottles or put together their own 6-pack (buy 5 and get the 6th for a penny). This is my fifth time here. I'd heard they had a good selection of interesting beer and wine, so I went. And I guess they do, but it's organized horribly, and it's basically all microbrew 22s with insane labels, and no matter what they say, everything tastes like cascade hops. I also heard they had a good cider selection. Whatever movement leads to the insane selection of beer, they have the opposite of that for cider. Out of state, mostly crap. Tonight I went looking for a Belgian style white ale, and wandered around trying to find anything like what I wanted. After ten minutes of the cashier watching me without anything but suspicion, I found a Saison that seemed okay, and a bottle of wine with a bear on it, because why not. Only then does he ask if I have cash, because their debit/credit system is down. Seems like you could have said that. Seems like you could hang up a sign. I suggested such and he just grunted at me. This place has the best craft beer compared to any other place I've been to. The store is let very clean and the staff is extremely friendly! They always have fresh coffee and lots of tasty snacks. This was my first time coming here, I had driven passed a lot but never stopped in, and I was very impressed with the new look of the building! Used to have prices like 5 or 10 cents more per gallon than Arco so I would always go there due to convenience but now the prices are way more like 20 or 30 cents more per gallon so I just don't plan on going back until they get the prices right. But inside the store is nice and they have a lot of selection. Only other downside is they don't have prices visible on snacks so it's always a guessing game. I visited Shift Change after hearing about their re-branding and love the idea behind the name - in the morning get your coffee to prepare you for your day and after work, stop in to get a couple of beers to ease and relax yourself after a long day. I'm not much of a coffee drinker myself, but decided to stop in after hearing that they had a good craft beer selection. I enjoy drinking all types of good beer and thought I might find something I like. This store is perfect because they have a huge selection of different types of beer. I ended up buying a 4-pack of Modern Times brewery's Oneida, which is a hoppy ale, for a friend but wasn't sure what I wanted. This brings me to my favorite part of Shift Change as a beer lover. They sell not only large single beers but also have a huge selection of single regular 12 and 16 oz craft beers for sale. Note: They also have some good deals going on, so watch out or ask for these sales as they are posted (for example: buy 5 single beers, get 1 more for a penny!). I was able to buy a mixed selection of single cans of beer including some ales, porters and stouts. If you're looking to try several different types of beer without having to buy a whole pack, or aren't that big of a drinker, you can stop into Shift Change, buy one or two singles, and be on your way out for the evening. Overall, they had a really solid selection of craft beers and also sold some popular big brand beers. I'm sure you'll find something you enjoy, if not something new and different to try. For example, I recommend trying High Water Brewing's Cucumber Ale for something different! Also, I have to mention the store was really clean, which is important to me if I'm buying something I'm going to consume. I live in the heart of Midtown, but a quick 5 min drive down 21st is well worth it for such a cool establishment as Shift Change! read more
