    33. Khao Piak Sen 10. Papaya Salad
    Julie H.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Cute mom and pop, hole in the wall cafe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I loved all of the lao options on the menu. I opted for the Khao piek and the spicy papaya salad. Khao Piek 9/10. the broth came out so fresh and clear. Really liked the pork blood cubes Lao papaya salad 9.5/10. Some of the best. The owner bagged it for me to ensure the noodles doesn't get soggy for later.

Laos style beef soup with little bit of bile and pepper for favour, side order of sticky rice.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This is a relaxed family-owned spot serving up traditional southeast Asian cuisine.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They also serve American french fries as well. The food look amazing. I had the traditional Laos style beef soup with side of sticky rice. The soup and the sticky rice goes well together. If you crave Laos foods and happen to be in the neighbourhood, I highly recommend this restaurant. Excellent and friendly owners. I highly recommend this place to anyone that loves Laos/Thai foods. I would definitely comeback to this establishment again.

Best Lao food in the north! The only thing I don't care for is the service fee, I was never explained to, or alerted of? Other than that, they have decent Laos Food.

First time trying this spot out with my husband, I am currently pregnant with our first baby and was craving pho. We were in the area passing by and saw this place had yummy food pictures posted on the outside of the restaurant. The pho was AMAZING 10/10 broth was savory and ingredients were fresh it felt like I was at home. We ordered eggrolls for appetizers and they were super crunchy & fresh!!! My husband ordered pad sa ew he really liked it and said it was super tasty with flavor! Customer service here was amazing the owner named Patrick at the cashier was super friendly and welcoming super hard working I can tell. I will definitely come back and recommend this place!!!

Best khao poon noodles hands down! Very friendly owner. We also tried the home made lao sausage and it's perfectly spiced.

Haven't been here in many years... was craving kao piak sen. amazing. Reminded me of Luang Prabang. I will definitely be coming back. Egg rolls were good but the highlight of my meal was def the kao piak. Long, thing and stringy noodles is what I prefer. Most places serve the thicker noodles. Friendly og took my order and kept checking up on me throughout the meal to see if I needed anything.

Dear Asian Cafe, I just wanna say thank you for coming into my life during some rough times. Times when good food is the only thing that will and is gonna cheer me up. A little birdie once whispered to me that your cafe has amazing homemade, straight homecooked dishes and to give you a try sometime. While working local in Sacramento a couple of weeks ago, I hit that search button on Doordash, and there you were. Looking at the menu alone and then resorting to Yelp for visuals, I knew whatever I ordered was gonna be straight F I R E ! I was with a client when my Dasher delivered, and I could smell the homemade goodness from the BAG! I haven't even opened the food yet! Straight home cooked yumminess! The aroma was out of this world... I ordered some Lao Sausage, which was sooooooo delicious and savory. Good lord, there was an explosion of Asian spices n lemongrass! The main course was, of course, you guessed it! Basil Chicken with steam rice and two fried eggs! And they were runny as I requested. Everything was so flavorful and tasty, all the spices complimented each other. I was so HAPPY AND SATISFIED. Thank you so much cause you have a customer for LIFE! A straight whole in the wall kinda joint n AUTHENTIC!

Haven't been here in years and figured why not since I'm in the area. Unfortunately food is mediocre with kids size portion with adult size pricing.

Fried rice is way too oily, and it's not salty at all. I had to add salt and more soy sauce myself

We were craving laos food and decided to pass by here while we wete in town. Everything we ordered was delicious! I especially enjoyed the nam khao and khao poon noodle soup. The food is very tasty. The owner was very funny and have great service. He kept checking on us to make sure we were enjoying the food. Keep in mind, its not in the best neighborhood so make sure you lock your cars.

    Lao sausage. Mild. Delicious.

If you want authentic Southeast Asian food... then this is the place to go. We went here for the first time and our service was great! The owner was friendly and gave us a little history and background of his traveling days. The ambiance was pretty chill and the place was clean. Like they say, don't judge a book by it's cover. The best foods are always the hole in the wall places. We will be coming back to try the famous papaya salad!

Khao Poon with no pork blood cubes

We absolutely love this place! The only Pho we choose to eat in all of Sacramento. We are always greeted with a warm welcome, nice conversation, and outstanding food. My boyfriend usually gets Pho, but I like trying new things too. Last visit, I had the Khao Poon and I loved it! 10/10 recommend paying Pat a visit at Asian Cafe.

Thai time Owner and…read moreRecipe Wizard Thammasorn Lau has created something that feels less like a restaurant and more like being welcomed into someone's home -- assuming that someone's home happens to have amazing Thai chefs, incredible spices, and food that makes you immediately start planning your next visit before you're even done eating. We did our best "research project" and ordered everything our table could justify: Thai iced coffee, coconut canopy salad, pad see ew and pad Thai with pork belly, sunset curry with tilapia, and mango sticky rice with ice cream. For science, obviously. Thai Time should put a warning label on their Thai iced coffee. One sip through each layer and the conversation stopped. We woke up. The taste buds clocked in for work. The brain sent out the announcement: "Cancel all distractions -- apparently dinner has plans for us." Good thing we listened. Thammasorn then proceeded to take us on a full Thai flavor adventure. This wasn't just dinner. This was a carefully organized attack on our ability to say, "No thanks, I'm full." The coconut canopy salad started fresh and bright, the noodles brought the comfort, the pork belly brought the celebration, the sunset curry with tilapia brought the "wait, everyone try this" moment. And the mango sticky rice with ice cream showed up at the end like a victory parade. I always read the bad reviews because I'm fascinated by the rare human ability to find sadness while surrounded by curry, noodles, and people being nice to you. They are to be safely ignored. Our experience? Five stars out of 10. Beautiful flavors, warm service, and that special energy you only get when the people behind a place actually care. Thank you, Thammasorn and Thai Time. Sacramento is lucky to have you.

I'm not sure if management or chef has changed but their food is not what I remembered from years ago. We initially ordered their tofu pad thai and gai yang and immediately noticed how pricey their menu was. They have a wall of specials and I remember being shocked that their orange chicken was $24. I didn't mind paying more than what I was used to for my pad thai because I remembered their food was delicious but I was shocked when my pad thai came out. It was literally drowned in sauce and looked like it was a bowl of noodle soup. I was still optimistic hoping that it tasted better than it looked but it just tasted like sweet rice noodle soup. I was hesitant to bring it up to the waitress after two bites but so glad I did because I would have hated myself if I left without saying anything. The waitress was kind and offered to remake the dish. Instead, I opted for something else because I was afraid to be disappointed again. I ordered their tofu drunken noodles since I've gotten it here before and remember it being tasty. I confirmed that the drunken noodle was going to be a dry noodle dish and thankfully it was. It was good but not the best I've ever had. My boyfriend had their gai yang which is a marinated grilled chicken dish. He said it was pretty dry without the sauce on the side but the sweet chili sauce provided was pretty tasty. It's probably not worth $26 given the how dry the chicken was and he said he would never order it again. Overall, the customer service was great and portions were good. I had to deduct 3 stars from my previous review as the food quality has significantly gone down in my experience and doesn't justify the high menu prices in my opinion.

The location was a bit odd, as there were barely any other businesses nearby. There is street parking that you can pay for. It's a fairly small restaurant. We were were seated pretty quickly. We opted for mild spice on this. I would order this again. -Chicken pad thai: Done very well! Some places the pad thai is too sweet, but this one was very balanced and had a good tamarind flavor. Medium spicy was a bit on the spicy side, but perfect for me! Would order this again. -Duck larb: Unique, but I couldn't tell it was duck. My partner enjoyed this more than I did. The portion for the larb was on the smaller side and it came with some lettuce, radish, carrots, cucumbers. -Mee kati ground pork: A very unique dish that not many Thai restaurants seem to have, in which it came with noodles, and a variety of toppings like beans sprouts, lettuce, green beans, peanuts, and cilantro. It came with a fermented curry gravy, and it delicious! I would totally order this again. -Green Thai tea: Quite fragrant and not too full on half and half like some other places have it. It's also not as sweet as another local Thai restaurant. I would actually order this again. -Classic Thai tea: Strong Thai tea flavor, also not too sweet. Everything else sat somewhere in the middle Parking? Lot We had: Chicken Satay (4/5): Flavor wise, this was locked in. One of the better peanut sauces I've had. Nutty, slightly sweet, with enough depth to keep it interesting. The problem was execution. It came out lukewarm, which dulled the whole experience and made it feel less fresh than it should have. Also could've used more sauce. Still good, just not quite dialed Green Curry (2.5/5): This one just didn't show up. The flavors felt muted and never really came together. The vegetable mix was fine, but it needed more eggplant to give it some body and identity. The chicken was forgettable. Nothing offensive, just flat. Easy pass Mango Curry (4.5/5): This is where things turned around. Bright, layered, and actually interesting. Real mango brought a natural sweetness that worked instead of overwhelming, and the sauce had depth. It felt composed.
