I been coming to this restaurant for a really long time. My last review was like 10+ years ago so an update review is overdue. Still one of my favorite brunch restaurant in town. Love their inside and outdoor seating - each space offers it's own wonder. Yes, the wait sucks lol 45 minutes for 2 people so you do the math if there's more in your party. Yes, they take advance reservation but never for the same day. They don't give wait time over the phone, must be in person to get on the wait list. Great thing about waiting, you get to enjoy the very welcoming waiting they have surrounded by trees and water fountains. You can grab a cocktail or coffee at the bar/bakery area to get you started while you wait. Isn't that cool? I THINK SO! Tower Cafe is known for their French toast so I made sure to have some, paired it up with eggs and a chicken sausage. Hubby had the Baja Enchiladas (pork) which he enjoyed very much there wasn't even a trace left other than spots of sauce on the plate. We had two drinks with our meal, and espresso Martini and a raspberry jalapeño lemon drop. I've had better to be honest but it wasn't bad. Service was pleasant as always. Tower Cafe has a very unique and fun atmosphere. This restaurant was on my list as I plotted out places I'd like to try as I make my way up to Tahoe for the weekend. I was surprised to find that there was a wait on a Friday @ Noon but we were given a 15 minute wait but we were seated before that which was nice. The interior of this restaurant is very fun, it feels like a combination of a thrift store & a sacred temple with all the beautiful pieces, art, and floral scattered around the restaurant. As for the menu, it was very hard to choose from because a lot of their items looked good. I went with the "French Connection" and my boyfriend got the "Borracho Burger". I really enjoyed the french toast -- i've never had anything like it. I'm usually someone that prioritizes filling up on protein when i'm getting full, but I prioritized that french toast because it was too good to let it go to waste. As for my boyfriend's meal, he thought his burger was good and that the ingredients were nice & fresh. But the fries were another story - he was disappointed as he asked for them to be crispy. But when the plate made it to our table, it looks almost as if it were fried in bulk and then refried (just look at the picture). Other than the fries -- the hostess, waitress, and service was great. Cute brunch spot, nicely decorated inside. The service was friendly and fast. The chicken mole and potatoes are a delicious option. I thought the French toast was decent, I like the bread they used. The banger lacked flavor, so I wouldn't recommend it. But they do provide other sausage options with your breakfast, so I'd recommend trying something else. read more

It was so cold and foggy outside but the line moved fast. Our server was polite and very attentive to our needs. Since I needed a little bit of warmth in my life, I ordered red pozole . It was savory and served with the right amount of fixings. Our server brought us just the right amount of limes. She also made sure we had to go cups for coffee. The one thing that would make pozole even better would have been some tortillas but it's served with chips. No tortillas though meant I had room for "dessert". This might be my favorite brunch of all time. Put our name down for 5 and were seated shortly before the 45 minute estimated time. Our table ordered the thai steak and eggs, thai steak salad and salmon bowl. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their dishes. Portions were generous and I was a big fan of the sauces. Thai salad was so unique. We finished off the meal with the banana cream pie and it was the perfect way the end. The table agreed it was the best banana pie we have ever had. We came early for breakfast around 8:30am. They serve a breakfast menu until 10am, then switch to their regular menu (I'll post the menu too). The service was great--staff were super friendly and attentive. We sat outside, which was really nice, though it was a little chilly in the shade. I wore shorts but was still fine, hehe. For food, I ordered the Madame Cristo. The portion was huge, and the creamy white sauce they put on it made the dish extra good. My friend got the French toast with sausage, and that was delicious too. Overall, the food was flavorful, portions were big, and the service was excellent. My experience with this restaurant was straight TRASH. Daughter wanted pancakes never had cornmeal in a pancake before. She didn't eat it. Then my bf and me ordered 2 burgers no amount of water of the sea could quench a thirst because it was so DRY AND FLAVORLESS. We paid $70 and left most of our food. Service was okay. We asked for the check really fast and waiter took our plates full of food. He should had asked if we even liked it. Came here on a Sunday morning and it was packed. Outdoor seating had a 30 min wait, so we grabbed a table indoors. I tried the Tower Garden Omelet and the famous French Toast. The omelet was fine, nothing that stands out, but that French Toast was irresistible. Definitely the thing to order here. The ambiance is very unique. Redundant Praise Ahead for this legendary place: iconic restaurant, stellar staff, spectacularly magnificent food, and the coolest ambiance. Hubs and I got early-Wednesday-evening lucky: walked in at 5:10, table available, greeted with a smile. We'd been forewarned that portions are huge, so ordered the Panko crusted codfish and chips, shared with an extra side salad. Hear me loudly: Best. Fish. EVER! Then, because we'd ordered sensibly, we each had room for dessert. He chose chocolate tart. I chose Neapolitan. Sublime! Oh, hubs is Mexican, and the "cool sauce" on the fish is the exact opposite of its name: hot, spicy, flavorful. We opted for a $6 to-go container of that green gold. Whenever I am in the Sacramento area I go to One of my favorite Brunch places Tower Cafe. I go specifically for their Madame Cristo Sandwich. I love every thing about this sandwich, their overnight soaked french toast, their Bechemel sauce & their homemade Chipotle-Raspberry Jam. Unfortunately this time it was not up to the standard I have had in the past. You can tell the french toast was not soaked, because a lot of the bread was still white inside. Usually a overnight soak turns the whole bread yellowish. The bread was not soft like french toast either. The bechemel sauce was good, but the Chipotle-Raspberry jam was more like a sauce not a jam. I returned it asked them to remake it, but it came back a little softer but the same. My friend ordered something like a monte cristo. Came on French toast, with a Chipotle cream sauce and egg on top. She liked what she ordered. Her french toast was still not soaked all the way thru, but was soft like french toast. Her Husband ordered a All American burger and was happy with it. He is very picky so the fact that he liked it was a thumbs up. I have not given up on this place, they have other really good dishes & a great bakery. I also believe restaurants can have a bad day, so I will try it again when I am in the area again. This day we went the resaurant was packed & extremely busy. We were 32 on the list & was told an 1 hr wait, but we were seated in 30 mins. They also have a nice garden area to wait for your table. Had a great Mother's Day brunch at tower cafe. It was super busy but we only had to wait about 10 mins for a table. Our server was super sweet and patient with us also even though it was so busy. The food was better than I remember! We all got the specials for Mother's Day and the Korean bbq ribs were an absolute hit. So tender and delicious with just the right amount of char on them. Food is all good. The service was excellent! The inside was busy but fun and clean. The menu offered a lot of interesting choices. We want to go back! I tried the French Toast which seemed candied on the outside and soaked almost creamy inside but had a good flavor. It wasn't my favorite in texture, though. I also tried the Monte Cristo which dipped in jam is a must! The coleslaw was one of best I've tried! The chicken tortilla soup was flavorful. The Chili Relleno Tapa had olives which was new but was pretty good. I want to try the guava mojito or margarita whatever was in the special menu but it would have to be for another day! Tower Cafe is one of those spots that feels like a Sacramento classic. I've only been here twice, both times on a weekend, and yes -- it gets very busy, especially if you're hoping to sit outside. That patio is super popular (and for good reason, it's beautiful out there). That said, both times I came with a party of two and got seated inside within 20 minutes, which was totally reasonable. Let's talk about the French toast -- it's the reason I keep coming back. The brioche bread is to die for -- it soaks up all the flavor of the batter, and the texture is perfect. I personally love my French toast a little mushy in the center (not soggy, just soft), and they nail it every time. They offer a short or long version -- I added a photo of both if you're curious. If you have a major sweet tooth, the loaded or churro versions are an option, but they're a bit too sweet for me, so I stick with the original. It's super satisfying and very filling. I've also tried their creme brûlée, and it was amazing, rich, creamy, and had that perfect crack on top. The inside is such a vibe -- eclectic, artsy, funky. There's décor all over the walls, a colorful bar area, and a dessert case full of tempting options you can take to go. The menu is also surprisingly big, so I definitely want to come back and try more. Tower Cafe is absolutely one of my go-to breakfast spots when I want something special. Highly recommend! read more

Somehow only my second time at Tower Cafe, but this time was even better than the first! Definitely a must visit for anyone in the Sac area. I got the chorizo con huevos and it was very good! The chorizo was delicious, as were the beans and potatoes. Really solid dish. We also got the egg tower which I would say was even better! I loved the cornbread muffins, smothered in hollandaise. What a fun funky place. My friend and I were shocked at the number of people visiting for lunch/brunch on a random Monday but we took it as a great sign of tastiness to come. We were right! There's some fun outdoor patio seating surrounded by plants as well as ample seating inside. The vibe is sort of scatter brained with plants and various decor dripping from every wall, but it was fun and eclectic. Our server was kind and fairly prompt considering the number of guests. We enjoyed the mole eggs with chorizo and the tower eggs. I had higher hopes for the cornbread - it was dense and not super flavorful. The mole however was a star and very delish. Visiting from Indiana and this was our first stop after checking in at our hotel. The food was so good I forgot to take pictures! I had their French toast and oh my gosh! Came here for lunch on a weekday with friends and had such a great experience. No wait at all, which was a huge plus, and the staff was super friendly and welcoming from start to finish. We ordered a variety of dishes and honestly, everything was amazing. One friend got the steak salad, which was perfectly cooked and really flavorful. I ordered the seasonal pumpkin soup (so comforting and rich), cornbread, and the tuna melt with potato salad -- and wow, that potato salad is to die for. Creamy, well-seasoned, and easily one of the best I've had. Another friend got the cranberry turkey sandwich with brie, also served with the potato salad, and it was a hit. The only downside is that the menu is pretty restricted depending on the time of day. We came for lunch hoping to order the French toast, but it's only available during brunch. Totally understandable, but I really wish some of their popular items were available all day. Okay...I have been here 3 times in 6 weeks! I think i love it!! All three times were on a Saturday, as that is very convenient for working people. I highly recommend this restaurant for a couple of reasons... 1. Location...I was there between 1pm and 4 pm all 3 times, and guess what? I guess that particular location is where all the COOLEST cars cruised past! 2. The staff? Excellent, I have to say that they are on top of everything...I never felt neglected. 3. The ambience...it is located in a sort of " Park" setting. Lots of Zen gardens, fountains, benches...etc. Loved it! 4. Obviously, the menu...I had the " French Toast" the 1st time. Absolutely delicious...I have had this dish MANY times, and this one went over the top! The second time, I had their homemade cornbread, and Black Bean soup! Again, delicious. The third time was my " Cheesy eggs and Ham", off the kids menu...loved it. My party and I ate outside all three times, and you will see my photos. I did go inside the restaurant, and it is SO charming. I have relatives that visit on a fairly regular basis from England, and I will definitely be bringing them here to experience this great restaurant. read more

I've been coming to Tower for years. We stopped in on a Saturday for lunch this past weekend. Wanted to sit on the patio. We were seated fairly promptly (patio wait times can range from minutes to hours at peak busy times). Once seated, we waited, and waited, and waited some more without even being greeted. After about 15 minutes of agonizing hungriness (by now I'm getting grumpy), we finally got a waitress to come by. After she closed out five tables-she finally took our order. I'm pretty patient having worked in the industry, but it seemed like an excessive wait time to get our order in. Sera was our waitress. Meek and soft-spoken, she also pulled the ole disappearing act, going missing right when I actually needed something. You know, took a break and didn't reemerge for a long time (right when I needed something, typical), then was busy with other tables. I tried to get her attention, but she was hyper focused on her other tables. And I get it, trust me. I've managed multiple tables as the sole server before. But being on the receiving end kind of took the experience down a notch. The food was great, and it always is. I had the enchiladas. Super good, slow simmered pork inside a corn tortilla, with fresh avocado, but I needed some salsa as a garnishment. I was taking my last bites when she finally came to check on us, and I got the salsa. Cool, at least I got it. And the food was good. And the weather was perfect. The drinks were great too. The Bloody Mary was on point. They do a great Bloody Mary here. Finally, when it was time to close out and leave, I figured she'd be rapid with the closing the tab portion since we waited on five tables to get our order taken. But no, she proceeded to take all her new tables orders first, leaving us there to wait while she put in everyone's order. I've never experienced this at Tower. I think they are short staffed for waiters. They had food runners, hostesses, and bussers galore. I'm guessing it was just an off day, or new staff, or a bunch of call offs. Or maybe they need to hire more servers. Either way, I'll give them another chance. The food is really good, the patio is lovely, the decor is enchanting. And usually, the service is great. Today I'm giving 4 out of five stars. I had to subtract from my usual five star rating due to the service today. read more

Tower cafe continues to be a mainstay and landmark of Sacramento. I'm not a french toast person usually, but I really love theirs. It's so creamy but not soggy, and has the best buttery flavor. This is a must order! Last visit I also got the jerk chicken plate which was good but not spicy at all in my opinion. The drinks were good as well. We went for lunch on a weekday and it was almost packed. That said, we didn't have to wait for a table. Our server was fantastic as well. They have a parking lot in the back, but it can fill up too especially on the weekends. The outdoor patio is a nice place to enjoy your meal during the summer. read more

We were on our way to the Lodi wineries but made a detour to the famous Land Park Tower Cafe. We were given a choice of seating in the serene courtyard or the colorful inside. We choose inside. Which was adorned with beautiful international artwork, which besides the plentiful breakfast/brunch/lunch menu is a site to see on its own. The service was speedy waiter Rueben was a joy. This gem of Sacramento located in Land Park area is well known but not everyone gets to meet the head cook of 35 years Ms Paig. She happened to venture out of the kitchen just in time for me to snag a pic with her. Such a lovely lady. And fabulous cook. Food was so good my brother wouldn't even share w his lil sis. Came for brunch- super long line and hostess underestimated our wait time, BUT we ordered a drink at the bar (the seasonal mimosa with Japanese sake was great!) When we finally did get to our seats, waitress came to take order immediately and food came out shortly after- so that was extremely nice! I got the huevos ranchero with poached eggs - I LOVE that they asked how I wanted my eggs. The dish was good- nothing to write home about but it was good. I also tried a bite of the Thai steak and eggs. I loved how the steak was cooked, however the person ordering asked for medium and it was a little overcooked for what he asked. Also- not sure what makes it Thai- it really just looked and tasted like steak and eggs. Again, a solid execution- nothing crazy or wild or mind blowing. Very disappointed with my experience today. My daughter and I ordered brunch from here and spent about $50 on our food. When we got home and she opened her container of scrambled eggs, she found a long piece of hair cooked into the eggs. It clearly wasn't hers because it was mixed in with the food. Finding hair in your meal is extremely upsetting, especially when it appears to have been cooked into it. For the price we paid, I expected better food handling and quality control. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously and improves their food preparation practices so this doesn't happen to someone else! read more
