First feel in love with Torchy's when visiting Austin. This visit brought us right back. The queso is just as good as ever. But be careful, if they tell you something is spicy, unless you really really like spicy food, you might want to try something milder. The food is fantastic! It's a different and unique take on what to put in a taco. Highly recommend the Crossroads, Trailer Park Trashy, and any of the breakfast tacos. All of the food has been good, flavorful, but can bit slightly salty! The chips and queso are a solid appetizer, but wish they added a bit more chips to the basket. Came here to try torchys after seeing a long line when they opened first and came out disappointed. We got the (~$5/ea) trailer park taco trashy and Baja shrimp taco. We also got the ($10) grande burrito with beef. Ironically the grande burrito is not very big. First the good, their flour tortilla on the burrito was chewy in a good way and had a nice texture. The beef in the burrito had a decent flavor. For the bad, the beef in the burrito was tough to an unholy level. Almost impossible to bite through, they were big chunks that you had to pull out of the burrito. The meats in the tacos were flavorless except for huge amounts of salt. We tried Torchy Tacos in central Texas years ago. They are now popping up in Phoenix with several locations opening. Tonight, we chose to try them during half-time of college televised football games. The restaurant was clean and very spacious. Televisions were broadcasting the college football games. The young man behind the counter was engaging and enthusiastic about the food selections. When we asked, he had no reservations about sharing his favorites without pressure. We ordered the fried shrimp and Caribbean chicken tacos along with the queso and chips. The shrimp taco was good, full of flavor and stuffed full in the taco. The pickled onions were a nice balance. The Caribbean taco had slices of fresh mango and only filled 1/3 of the taco. It looked like a free sample taco. The sauces were good but a bit strong and overwhelmed the flavor of the taco proteins. The chips were not warm and lacked salt. The queso was well seasoned and a generous amount. It had a good spice and was well flavored. I felt the tacos and queso were expensive for a quick taco dinner. The shrimp taco was good while the Caribbean chicken was fair. The chips need to be served warm with a light dusting of salt. It was peculiar that one taco was stuffed and one was only minimally filled. I am glad we tried Torchy Tacos tonight, but I don't feel the need to return. Came for their soft opening and the line was like 2 hrs. At least they gave us water to hydrate. The grand opening is Wednesday. Also they gave us chips with queso, salsa and guac. The queso was really good and the guac tasted fresh. After we got in we sat at the bar and got a Marietta strawberry. The alcohol is already mixed it. I've only worked my way through approximately 1/3 of the menu and I can't add any pictures because I've consume the food so fast I didn't even think to take photos next time, I will add photos for sureso far. I've tried the trailer park the Democrat, the Republican, the crossroads and the Matador which was recently removed from the menu I guess they alternate certain items and tacos of the month which is a very cool idea. I'm from TX, so when I heard about Torchy's first location opening up in AZ, I was ecstatic! My bf and I attended both the Grand Opening Party on Monday and the actual Grand Opening on Wednesday. Boy, were those lines LOOONG. We got the free shirts though! Some of my favorites not in any particular order are the: - Green Chile Queso: A MUST. It's honestly one of my favorite quesos ever. I love the guac that's hidden inside. - Brushfire: This one packs a LOT of heat and a hint of sweetness from the mangoes. - Tipsy Chick: Grilled chicken with corn, cheese, and bacon bourbon marmalade - yum. - Crossroads: The beef brisket with all the fixings like the avocado, cilantro, jalapenos is *chefs kiss* - Trailer Park: The classic fried chicken taco. My bf's favorite is the Democrat which has barbacoa. I had never had it before until earlier this week and it was pretty good. I've had the Fried Avocado before too and it was yums. Honestly you can't go wrong with any of them. One thing to keep in mind is that these tacos are FATTT. They don't skimp on anything. I can't eat more than 2 at most. My bf and I tried the drinks for the first time. We had the Sucker Punch and Tito's Cherry Limeade. They were both tasty but I prefer the Sucker Punch since it's sweeter. Last but not least, I just want to say how happy I am with the staff. They had great energy, were always willing to help, and were super attentive on both days that we were there. I can only imagine how tough it was to cater to such large crowds on opening week but everyone did a fantastic job! Pro-tip: Don't skip on the tacos with chicken! The tacos are not street taco sized - they are much bigger! Highlights: Attended their soft opening and waited in line for 2.5 hours, but their staff were super friendly and they had activities and chips with queso and two types of salsa while we waited in line. Really impressed with their grilled chicken and the flavor of the queso. My favorite taco was the tipsy chicken but I don't think it needs the bacon marmalade. The brushfire was a close second but because I asked for it without sour cream, there wasn't anything to make it less spicy, so my mouth was on fire. Given the size of the tacos, I think the price is fair. The restaurant ambience is fun and lively. I'd definitely return! Torchy's has arrived! I was so excited to read that Torchy's was opening up in the Valley- this is always one of my stops when I'm in Denver or Dallas. Today is the first day it's open, and it's packed! The line was wrapped around the building but even though it's 105 out, we stayed cool under the misters. The line moved quickly- we were out there for about 25 minutes. Once we joined the indoor line, we were asked if we'd like to be seated at the bar (full service!) so we happily went there to sit. Fantastic service right away. We order chips and guac (perfect saltiness to the chips and hint of spice in the guac). Between my husband and I, we ordered the Baja shrimp, green chili pork, democrat, and crossroads tacos. The crossroads blew me away with the Smokey brisket. The others are some of my favorites too and did not disappoint. The entire team was working hard and quickly so lots of smiles all around. I came here upon the advice from my brother. What a wonderful discovery! The restaurant was clean and bright and they were playing the Replacements and the Cure-so I felt right at home. I sat at the full service bar and was attended to by a friendly and helpful bartender. He recommended the Trailer Park taco, and I also ordered the queso with chips. The food came out quickly, and was hot, and seasoned just right. I enjoyed my meal a great deal, and even took half of the queso and chips home for lunch tomorrow! This review is for the Torchys on Camelback in Phoenix. We have been going to Torchy Tacos to get the plant based Mo Faux tacos. So good! My husband was put on the WFPB lifestyle because of cancer. We went there today and I noticed the menu had changed. They no longer make the Mo Faux Tacos. Their substitution was an avocado and refired bean taco. The problem with refined beans is that a lot of times they add lard or some other animal based product in them. Unfortunately I am allergic to avocados and hubby hates it. I told the lady that we will never come back. They ruined it for us. So disappointed. read more

Stopped in after work as feeling quite peckish before heading to an appointment. I just needed something to hold me over until dinner later. Good selection of trendy tacos, I opted for the brisket which had a good amount of shredded beef on it and ample toppings but meat was almost bone dry you needed the salsa for it and 1 salsa wasn't enough! I also had the fried avocado taco which was good but nothing mind blowing. The crema sauce with it was great though. Even with extra cheese in the tacos, it wasn't enough for me. This place it's all about the sauces/salsas in which I didn't have a choice as they pair a sauce with the taco you've ordered at the counter. Honestly I would have loved to just order at a table, ordering at a counter when you trying to decide is annoying AF. You can also have any taco in flour tortillas, but you have to ask for it. Finally got a chance to try this place. My buddies I went with, had them previously in Austin, TX and they raved about them. I went with 2 tacos, a Brushfire and a Crossroads. Water to drink, my total was about $12.00. A tad steep for 2 tacos. How were they? Pretty good. Brushfire was Jamaican jerk chicken, pineapple, jalapenos, sour cream and cilantro and a diablo sauce (not sure if it was the jalapenos or the diablo sauce, but one bite I took lit my whole mouth on fire). Taco was good. Chicken was seasoned well, and it had a lot of pineapple in it. The tortillas are kind of weak though...not that pliable and a bit "stiff". Crossroads was beef brisket, onions, jalapenos, cilantro, cheese and avocado. This was ok also. Same thing with the tortilla...a tad "stiff". Beef brisket was nice and tender and they gave you a whole slice of avocado which was nice. My buddy got an order of chips and queso. I actually liked this better than the tacos. A bit skimp on the chips compared to the queso they give you, but the chips were thin and crispy, and the queso was nice and hot with great flavor. I would definitely get this next time I come back. Overall, thought it was ok. A bit pricey for what you get. Not racing to come back anytime soon, but one day I would like to try their breakfast tacos, and the chips and queso was pretty solid. read more

The trailer one basically had a chicken tender with various toppings while the smoked brisket was the better of the two choices. Each taco had their own different sauce. My personal favorite is the trailer park & crossroads tacos (get it trashy). The place was crowded but our food was brought out fast. All the entrees at Torchys are made fresh to order and layered with flavor. The shrimp and chicken tacos were moist and had such wonderful flavors, some of the best tacos I've had in a while.
