Tomatina's Housemade Garlic Rolls
Erin E.

This was my first time being back at Tomatina since my friends and I had a horrible experience here a few years ago (we had to wait for our food and drink for around 30mins and our waitress was very rude... I assume it was because we were in high school at the time). This time around service was fine and our servers were very attentive. It wasn't very busy and the inside was toasty and dark. My friend and I opted to sit in the patio which was very nice because it was a little too warm inside for us. The hostess was very friendly. The garlic rolls were decent and soft. The marina paired well with it. I wouldn't recommend the garden pizza unless you want to have a mouthful of spinach. It was pretty good, but only after you take out the heap of spinach and bell peppers off it. The chicken fettuccine lacked Parmesan and tasted like buttered noodles.

I made a reservation for my birthday and was disappointed the table they saved us was outside in the cold on their covered patio. Ambiance was still nice. The garlic bread was delicious. The server was friendly. The Alfredo was flavorless so bland. I enjoyed the tuscan arranbiata. The mixta salad was really good. The apple crisp was my partners favorite part. They brought the salad and pasta out at the same time which was a little inconvenient. Overall I liked the food and would go back.

I love Tomatina for Italian comfort food in a casual environment. You always know what you're going to get. There is a lot to be said for consistency. We prefer this location over the Alameda one. The service is better here, and no screaming kids to date, unlike in Alameda where that is more common than not. I order the spaghetti with alfredo sauce every time, sometimes with mushrooms added, and RB usually gets the meatballs. We'll typically share a half Caesar salad; the half portion is plenty, and they don't skimp on the anchovies! The food is always tasty, and when I'm in the mood for pasta, this place always hits the spot. The service has always been good here, with friendly and attentive staff. They have outdoor seating, which I prefer. Great for people-watching. This restaurant has been around for a while, and could use a bit of a facelift at this point. Investing into some renovations and sprucing up would go a long way in making the place even more inviting. Glad this staple is in downtown Walnut Creek, and we will continue to visit.

Tomatina's for the win! They came in cutch for me and my husband who were in town celebrating our rehearsal dinner. We called Wednesday and they were able to accommodate 30+ guests on Friday evening. We were immediately served drinks and salads came out shortly after. We got bruschetta and garlic knots for appetizers which were delicious! Everyone seemed to enjoy their entrees because I saw lots of empty plates. My fettuccine was great! Most people order the special (short rib ravioli). All in total they got us in and out of there in around 2 hours and it was great from start to finish. Kayla (manager I believe) was so beyond helpful and sweet. This restaurant saved our night!

Walt from Walt's Adventures reporting from Walnut Creek, California and I am in Tomatina. This Italian restaurant has both indoor and outdoor covered dining. We were immediately directed to our table and within minutes, gave our orders and were sipping on our drinks. It was clear that I had overlooked this diamond in the city for far too long. First to arrive was the Garlic Rolls. This appetizer was to die for. They were the best I have ever eaten. Our meals had great presentations and all tasted fantastic. Four of five stars for we had a wait for our refills and I was told that I could input my honors number to receive the complimentary 10.00 membership reduction but failed where to do so. I now have a favorite Italian restaurant in the San Francisco east Bay Area. If you want the best garlic rolls you will ever consume, then seek out Tomatina.

The service was amazing and it was a great vibe overall. The food was great and surprisingly affordable! 10/10 RECOMMEND!! Dillan was especially amazing and provided very high quality service!

Fantastic experience!! Our group came in and were promptly greeted by Fred. (Such a gem!) He ran through the menu and gave excellent recommendations. Let me say the food was as good as the company...and I don't just mean my group, I mean the staff! Not only was Fred fantastic, but mah girl Raphaela was amazing as well! Quick with a drink and a joke! My type of woman! Anyway the special fantastic as was my friends' piadine were fantastic! And Fred and Raphaela wooed us with their charm! Definitely a must return!

Chicken Alfredo with shrimp

We finally made it in after having this place on our list for a while, and it did not disappoint! Came with family and were seated inside--such a quaint, intimate little spot with a cozy vibe. You can see the open kitchen and the wood-fire oven where they make their pizzas and piadine, which adds to the charm. We started with the garlic rolls (absolutely drenched in a dreamy mix of garlic, oregano, EVOO, and parmesan--SO good) and the house-made onion focaccia. We asked for Alfredo, marinara, and pesto to dip them in (yes, we have Olive Garden kids in the crew lol), and they were happy to oblige. One of the kids ordered a cheese pizza, and it came out massive--like medium/large size--and was surprisingly flavorful for a simple cheese pie. My son got the Chicken Alfredo and added shrimp. The pasta was perfectly cooked with that ideal "tooth" bite, and the creamy sauce was delicious. Both the chicken and shrimp were cooked to perfection. I usually lean toward seafood, but this time I tried the lemon chicken, and WOW. It was a thin, egg-battered fillet, pan-seared and bursting with lemon zest flavor. It came with gemelli pasta in a creamy sauce with spinach, peas, and tomatoes--so bright, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. I loved it way more than I expected to. Someone else at our table had the bruschetta, and I was pleasantly surprised--the bread was soft (not the usual overly toasted kind), and the pesto was amazing. Service was friendly and attentive. It's a small place, and it gets busy, but that just confirms how popular and well-loved it is. Can't wait to come back to try more items--and next time, we're definitely sitting outside on the cute patio! An added plus, The city of Walnut Creek has partnered with a piano gallery and placed pianos all over the city for people to freely play on... My son learned how to play piano by ear when he was 3 years old so he decided to play a little something after dinner! He started to attract a tiny crowd, and got nervous and that's why he got up and walked away lol But that ALSO added to the ambiance & charm of the entire evening.

Caesar Salad

Tomatina in Walnut Creek is one of those spots that's always busy for a reason...it's super casual, consistently tasty, and right in the heart of downtown. It can feel a little cramped and hectic, which is honestly the downside, but that's also how you know people love it. The garlic rolls are so great... make sure to get a side of ranch along with the marinara. I tried their seasonal butternut squash ravioli, which was good but had a lot going on flavor-wise. The potato leek soup, though, was perfect on a rainy day, comfort food in a bowl. Their Caesar salad is fine but nothing fancy, definitely a little mid. The real star here is the pepperoni pizza: simple, classic, and seriously delicious. Even the kids' menu is great, especially the mac and cheese (which I never mind finishing at home later). And their strawberry lemonade is my favorite drink to get here. It's a great stop if you're shopping or hanging out downtown, but probably a little too busy and loud for a chill date night. Service is okay since they're always slammed, you usually have to ask for what you need rather than them being super proactive. Still, when you want something easy, comforting, and reliably good, Tomatina totally hits the spot.

Mama's Meatballs and Josh cab

Ended up at Tomatina's again. We seem to always forget about it when we are thinking about places to go and then, bam lets go to Tomatina. We have always sat outside on the patio facing the sidewalk instead of inside. There's a random piano across the street where individuals of a range of skill levels seranade the crowd. The patio is not a parklet in the street so you you don't have to fear for your life from a out of control car making a mess of your linguine. I usually get the meatball appetizer and my partner some kind of a carbo pasta dish and we split a caesar salad. The sauce on the meatballs is spicy enough and lots of it. I occasionally have a bite of the pasta which is also excellent. Service is great and everyone is super polite. This location is smaller than the Alameda one which we hit once in awhile. I like the DubC place better. I know its a chain and the food should all be the same but there is a difference. Also, full bar and totally adequate wine and beer list all at a good price.

Arbiatta

We have come here multiple times. This is a very underrated gem. Their food is very flavorful. Service is fast and friendly. Prices are very reasonable. Bruschetta is always great. We also loved arrabbiata. Highly recommended.

Nancy C.

Ordered fettuccine Alfredo to go. Was $21 and was surprised how small the portion was for the price. The pasta barely covered the bottom of the container

Tomatina was amazing. Did take out and we enjoyed it. The crust was so flavorful and the meat was tasty. Will def come back

Piadinis (any of them) are excellent, and enjoyed the seasonal Mediterranean piadini, although the salmon does not taste wild-caught.

Best Experience I've Ever Had at a Restaurant…read more Today is one of the most important days of my life--I got married. I chose to celebrate this special moment with my wife and my daughter at Melo's in Walnut Creek, and I will never forget how they treated us. From the moment we walked in, the staff went above and beyond. The service was not just professional--it was genuinely kind, warm, and full of heart. They made us feel like family. What truly touched me is that they refused to charge us for our meal. In a world where everything is business, this level of generosity and humanity is rare. It wasn't just about the food (which was amazing, by the way), it was about the way they made us feel on a day that means everything to me. To the entire team at Melo's: thank you for making our wedding day even more special. You didn't just serve us food--you gave us a memory we will carry for the rest of our lives. Service was good  The Valentines prix consisted of an app, entree, and dessert, some of which are not on their regular menu!!  -bread and marinara (4/5): bread was great, thick slices and nice crust. Marinara was standard -potato-leek puree (4/5): came in a cute little cup to drink out of, good flavor -gamberoni (5/5): prawns were a good size and perfectly grilled. The sauce was a good addition -polette (4/5): meatballs were juicy and the pesto was flavorful and creamy. Interesting thing to have as an appetizer though -fettuccini carne (5/5): I always have an internal struggle about getting a red sauce or a cream sauce, so this was the perfect option as a creamy red sauce pasta. Serving size was good, and there was also plenty of meat and mushrooms, which I loved! Flavor was great! -lamp chop (4/5): good grilled flavor, but one was slightly too raw for our liking so we had to send it back to the kitchen to cook it some more. Our waitress was very understanding though! The mashed potatoes and veggies were also good. -tiramisu (3.5/5): good flavor, but there was wayyy more cream than ladyfinger, so the textural balance was off. And I love cream! -peanut butter chocolate brownie (4/5): really good but also pretty sweet. Loved how thick the whipped cream was, but didn't taste as much peanut butter as I would've liked Overall, I had a great experience for their valentines day prix menu. Food was great and I would definitely go back to try their pasta!

Members of the service staff moved in and out efficiently to refill water, remove plates and keep our table uncluttered. Il Fornaio; An Authentically Italian Experience…read more On my first visit to Il Fornaio, I confirmed something I have always believed: when the cuisine is truly authentic, the real taste of Italy is immediately felt on the palate. However, a memorable dining experience is not built by the kitchen alone; it is also defined by its atmosphere, attention to detail, and above all, the human quality of its service. From the very beginning, Roberto, the restaurant's General Manager, welcomed us with warm and genuine hospitality that set the tone for the entire evening. From that moment on, every member of the team contributed to making the experience smooth, elegant, and memorable. Special recognition goes to Agustín, our server, whose service was impeccable; attentive, friendly, and always ready to guide us through the menu with knowledge and enthusiasm. The appetizers were simply outstanding: the classic Bruschetta, crispy Calamari Fritti, traditional Polpette, and a delicate Beef Carpaccio, all of which opened the palate with fresh and authentic flavors true to Italian tradition. Then came the stars of the evening: a spectacular Tomahawk Steak, perfectly prepared, accompanied by a delicious Penne al Vodka, a dish that balances richness and elegance in every bite. The experience was elevated further by a remarkable Italian wine, a Brunello di Montalcino, whose robust yet refined character created the perfect pairing with the meal. And as every great Italian meal deserves a memorable finale, the evening ended with a delicate Affogato, the perfect marriage of Italian espresso and creamy gelato. Enjoying this feast is, without a doubt, allowing the palate to travel directly to Italy... while having the privilege of experiencing it here in the United States.

We ordered the Appetizer for Two, which includes: Bruschetta, Caprese, Prosciutto Melone, & Beet Salad - a perfect amount for the two of us. Then we each got the Beef Wellington. Again, never a disappointment. YOU MUST TRY IT! To finish the night I had a latte and we shared a salted caramel gelato. Absolutely delightful. If you haven't tried La Fontaine, I highly recommend giving them a try. The weekends are busy, so if you're able to step out on a week night, do it. Ask for Onur the manager and he'll take care of you. Enjoy

It was just me 'n' Mumsy this year so I suggested we go out for Thanksgiving lunch…read more The host was so gracious and our server, Dennys, was attentive and charming! Everyone else was lovely too, TBH. The food? Oh yeah! I had the octopus appetizer from the regular menu which was melt in your mouth deliciousness with a fava (or broad bean?) base - in different circumstances, I would have wiped the plate clean with a piece of bread French country style! I had the lobster ravioli special, which was both decadent and delicate - the taste of the lobster wasn't overwhelmed by the light creamy sauce, and the pasta was the perfect bite. Mumsy had the turkey cordon bleu special which both satisfied turkey tradition without the (alleged) tryptophan coma! Too stuffed for dessert (but that's okay as we aren't really "sweet" people!). Mind you the chocolate wotnot looked very tempting... I am very thankful for everyone who worked today - it was the most relaxing Thanksgiving we've had in a long time and I am grateful that you made it possible. As Arnie says, "I'll be back!"

The wines are always tasty, and the complimentary bread with herb butter is soft and fluffy. The strawberry salad was especially good, even better than the arugula salad. Lemon tart and tiramisu are both great.

Menu items are on the high side, so be prepared to shell out some dough. We had a nice waiter, pleasant, cheerful, and very accommodating. I would give the waiter a rating between 4 and 5 stars. It was near closing time when we got there, but we didn't feel rushed to order or eat our dinner so that they could clean up and close the restaurant and head on home. We started with an appetizer and garlic bread (see picture). We had about six pieces of bread and as you can see in the picture, it was on the burnt side. I cannot believe that for the price you pay for a bread, they would serve this. I also ordered a black coffee, but it tasted like it had been sitting there since the morning and tasted really nasty. I asked to have a hot tea instead. Food was good. We ordered spaghetti, carbonara, some chicken dish, and a grilled salmon. All the food tasted delicious and we cleaned out the carbonara and spaghetti. After we ate our dinner, they gave my son-in-law a slice of tiramisu with a lighted candle. Overall, it was a pleasant evening and we enjoyed our food (except for the garlic bread). I'd like to see them do me good and give me a nice garlic bread the next time I eat here.

Great Italian style restaurant, small and intimate. The service was great, the owner himself was serving and shaking hands with the customers. The rest of the staff were fantastic, and the entire experience was smooth and enjoyable. I ordered were lamb shank, lined with a bed of mash potatoes, and veggies, with the most delicious gravy. I ate the whole thing in about ten mins. Carbonara and Lobster raviolis were ordered as well. Both were excellent, but the lamb shank was the best in my opinion.

I had taken her out last year for her birthday at Luna and at the end of the evening she was presented a lovely dessert on the house . Really pleased us both. No acknowledgment of my birthday last evening, even seeing gifts on the table which (Habib the owner)moved to make room for our plates. We both ordered the mushroom ravioli, which we had the last time. This time the raviolis had been cooked ahead of time because they were dry on the edges. We should've sent it back, but we didn't. Both of us are very good cooks so we know how easy it is to cook raviolis. I also cash purchased two containers of minestrone soup to go after we were finished our meal. I gave the server a $20 bill and all that came back was four dollars which means they kept the additional change. I didn't want to make a big deal about it, but, you don't round up and keep the change. We will look for another place to celebrate our birthdays.
