One of our favorite family spots!! During the pandemic, and even after, their family membership really stood out to us. Offering meaningful discounts on meals felt like they genuinely cared about helping families keep good food on the table, and that meant a lot. Their current Plate Pass still reflects that same thoughtful approach. My mom loves coming here. Today, service was great. We both ordered their cage free chicken with the beet salad, mom got it with rice while I had Mac and cheese. Also got an additional shrimp for $5.50 more to entree. We got two dragon fruit drinks. Both the beets and Mac and cheese are my favorites. Can't go wrong with the Mac and cheese. We really appreciated staff coming around to check on us. Manuel came over a few times even brought us water. He was very attentive. My mom loves the outdoor ambiance. First time at Urban Plates with my brother. I was 100% satisfied with the crispy chicken sandwich that i ordered. I added buffalo sauce to it & it was the perfect spiciness it needed. The sandwich was crispy on the outside & tender in the inside. This sandwich was not too dry like other crispy sandwiches. One thing i would add would be lettuce as it only comes with couple slices of pickles. I paired my meal with the dragon fruit strawberry drink and it was soo refreshing. Their focus is on naturally organic, grass-fed, etc. food that caters to health-conscious foodies. I love how you are able to create your plate according to your own dietary restrictions, or favorites. My plate consisting of grilled grass-fed steak, topped with a delicious chimichurri sauce, fresh steamed broccoli, and garlic parm mushrooms made it the perfect plate for me. The only thing that kept me from finishing it was that it was very filling... and that was without the bread. Although not everyone in our party got everything they ordered at once, their wonderful waitstaff went above and beyond to correct it and came back to check on us frequently. DINNER: LAMB OSSO BUCO AND MANGO TART One night in February after my nieces' play at an elementary school our family came here for dinner. One dish that intrigued me was lamb osso buco. Osso buco is normally veal so I wanted to try that dish with lamb. For dessert I ordered mango tart. Anytime lamb is served at a restaurant I tend to order it. I also love eating osso buco. I set an expectation that I would love the lamb osso buco. However the lamb tasted gamey. The aftertaste after every bite made it difficulty for me to finish this dish. What saved dinner for me was the mango tart. It removed the aftertaste I ate from the lamb osso buco. I don't visit Pleasant Hill often. I can give this place another try. We came here cuz we didnt have time to cook dinner. Our cashier, Bella, was really patient and attentive to our orders. We ordered blackened salmon with a side of mushrooms & caesar salad; surf and turf with beets salad & brussells sprouts. My salmon was good. The caesar salad however was not fresh was bit soggy and the lettuce had orange discoloration. Not sure if caesar salad should have tomatoes in it. Tried Urban Plates for the first time on 4/21/26 and had the weirdest experience with a cashier named Michelle N. She was a combo of flustered, distracted and aggressive all in one. My husband has celiac and when he ordered his sandwich, asked to sub gluten free bread (not an issue), then she's extra loudly she's like "what else are you ordering?" while looking all around frantically even though the cafe was not busy and there was nothing happening to her right or left. My turn. I ordered the soup/half sandwich combo with tomato basil and turkey club. I asked if there were any other cheese options besides Havarti, and after we straightened out her confusion of what I was asking, without her even looking at the ordering screen she was like "ummm I think we have other cheese? Maybe like cheddar?" like she wasn't sure. I said if you do have cheddar, I'd love that. We pay, get receipt, order number and sit. I'm looking at the receipt and see that Michelle has incorrectly assumed that I am gluten free as well. Her notes were 'no rustic bread' and also no croutons on the soup. Also our drink order was not what we asked for. She didn't seem to be paying good attention to our ordering, and didn't ask any questions to get to the place where she chose for me that I was altering my own lunch. That was super irritating. I went here with my family because of the gluten free options, which are fairly plentiful. We ordered a gluten-free item as a separate transaction on purpose, to keep things simple and minimize risk of cross contamination, as one of my family members has a serious condition. We mentioned this to the counter service worker. However, the food was served on the same tray as the other food, which had bread and other gluten-containing foods in close proximity. The food was fairly disappointing. My wife and older son both thought that their chicken was gamey. I've been on a "Cobb Salad Kick" lately, so I figured I'd try theirs. It didn't stack up compared to three Cobb salads I've had recently at other restaurants. There wasn't enough dressing, and the chicken wasn't that great. It didn't have that much going on. Disappointed! One other negative: I personally do not like the 3% "Living Wage" fee added. It seems odd when businesses do this. I would prefer a higher priced item, clearly listed on the menu, over what I consider to be a "sneaky" markup.
