Tokyo Bakery has the cheapest macaroons of all GTA. They are $6 for 6 but they are all prepackaged and you cannot choose the flavour. For $1 each I could not complain. Taste wise I think they are quite good and with good texture and not too sweet, just the way I like mine. The lady behind the counter was so friendly and we start discussing about macaroons in GTA. She said Tokyo bakery makes their own and no one else sell theirs..but I do have doubts because Cakeview Bakery ( http://www.yelp.ca/biz/cakeview-bakery-and-cafe-scarborough#hrid:2yIu2MBEEMICp_oZtn0G4g/src:self) less than 5 min drive North has similar looking macaroons.... After paying $2.50 each at Ruelo last week... $1 each at Tokyo Bakery is a bargain and can curb my cravings for sweet once in awhile! Cash Only!
No, Tokyo Bakery doesn't have Japanese products. I know, the name is deceiving. It's a Chinese bakery by all definitions, and you can confidently speak Cantonese and English here. Located next to a dance school, you will often find it occupied with the school's patrons. These families will enjoy a milk tea, coffee and/or baked good while waiting for their children's lesson to end. Sometimes, the parents will even treat their little ones to a snack here as a reward for finishing their dance lesson. The bakery seats around 6, so don't bet on eating in, but that pretty much describes most seating arrangements for Chinese bakeries. You will find your usual assortment of Chinese pastries here. The caveat, however, is that the prices are on the higher end. Each pastry is well over a dollar, which is horrendous given that my Scarborough heart resonates with the idea of 50-90 cents being the average cost for a bun. Also, they don't label the different mini cakes they have on display, so you'll need to ask the lady at the front to describe every cake to you. She is fluent in English though, so there will not be a language barrier. We got four different mini cakes and shared them. They were cheap at around 3 dollars per slice, but their quality was low. They were edible and somewhat flavourful, but you just couldn't shake off the feeling that low quality, cheap ingredients were used. Given the higher price point, lower quality ingredients, and obscure location, I wouldn't recommend visiting Tokyo Bakery. There are bakeries with better prices and higher quality nearby.
It may not look inviting from the exterior or location but the cakes are delicious. Not your typical Chinese bakery cake flavours. we've tried mango lychee and it's delicious. Plus the owners are very friendly. We walked in close to closing time and all their cakes were sold out but they said if we don't mind waiting they will make it for us. Great customer service. This is our go to cake spot for birthdays and special occasions now. Reasonable pricing ! And friends who have tried always go for seconds
I always get my birthday cake from here! My family consistently orders cakes from here for almost 8 years. They make really delicious mousse filling cakes. My favourite is the blueberry cheesecake, which is not too cheesy and the blueberry flavour goes well with the dark chocolate sponge. I also really love the white chocolate maria cake, which is essentially white chocolate mousse with passionfruit sponge. Goes so well together and the fruit on top of all their cakes is always an awesome touch. They also have tiny, single serving cakes for 3.50 each which serve as a great afternoon tea/dessert options. They also have macarons on sale for $8 in a pack of 6. It is in a dinky sort of hidden plaza and parking is a bit tight but I find it to be a gem amongst Scarborough's asian bakeries. Awesome!
Came here today as I was craving for macarons. I found that Tokyo Bakery sells the cheapest macarons in the GTA. So I thought, why not try them out? Their 6-pack macarons are pre-packaged and they are small in size. But still very filling if you eat all 6. The price is $7.50 so it is $1.25 each macaron. The macarons are soft and the filling is surprisingly tasty! Better than grocery-bought macarons in my opinion. The macarons are soft, tasty, and really good. Really good for $1.25 each. Will go here again to satisfy my macaron cravings. Review 24 of 100
YSI(Yelp Scene Investigation): Scarborough As I narrowly stepped away from the crazy driver trying to park the car for what seems to be forever, I moved in and surrounded the Yelp Scene as all the EVIDENCE leads to this final location. What seems to be a typical Chinese Bakery but named Tokyo Bakery must be a cover business name because on the outside it advertises in Chinese that they prepare and use authentic French Patisserie.... As I kicked down the door, I took a quick look to the left and noticed the Chinese style Bakery items(Buns, Egg Tarts...) and then re-focused and saw a Lady behind the counter as she greeted me. I kept her occupied by asking if they have Milk Tea and as she prepared it, I looked at the right side of display case where deja vu there it is again, TIRAMISU! Final research brings me to enjoy a Tiramisu($2.75) which was a bit more dense than others I've tried but it has a good combination of elements such as ground Nuts, thin layer Cream, Cake base, Coffee taste and a rich Chocolate covering. Although not light tasting but has more intensity rich flavour than most. Further probing on a sign display shows the details of Cake selection. BINGO! There on that sign on the bottom of the display shows L'Opera Productions. The mystery is now SOLVED! As I see a kitchen space behind the counter and a customer asking for Japanese Cheesecake but unfortunately not available today, so call prior to confirm if need be. Caveat is they aren't "authentic" French macarons (it's a Chinese bakery) although they're pretty good, on par with the ones from STC from cupcake a la carte
Again, Yelp has led me to discover new places nearby. I assumed from the name of the place that this bakery specialized in Japanese baked goods. The buns aren't anything different from the many Chinese bakeries around the area. Also a bit pricier at about .80c each. They had a deal (no signs posted) buy 6, get 1 free. Decided to try the macarons since this was one of the main reasons we came here. I think the batch they gave me were stale... They were pre-packaged which should've been a warning sign. The texture was great, but not so much the taste. Egg tart was delicious- but nothing new. We also got a mini cake, which had chocolate mousse on top. Scrumptious! $2.99 was a bit expensive for the size of the cake. L Would like to try their larger cakes for a special occasion.
The owners of this place have changed recently. They are most certainly Chinese and I speak Mandarin with them. They have cleaned the place up a bit, and started making some new items. They are selling French macarons now, very small in size. A set package of six for $6.00 (hazelnut, chocolate, raspberry, lemon, pistachio, vanilla). They were okay, but a little on the dry side. I will keep buying my macarons elsewhere. Their buns are usually fluffy and fresh, made daily. Their mousse cakes are fruity and moist. I can eat several helpings of it, it goes down very easy. And if you order a cake, they can combine any fruits you wish. Mango and strawberry tastes great! They have some window seating available, but I recommend buying your goods and leaving the sketchy plaza.
I read the reviews on yelp and it looked like a good spot to buy a cake. I asked secifically for cheesecake, they said yes $22 for 7 inch. I bought the strawberry-mangoe cheesecake as advertised for my mom's birthday. However, the cake I got was NOT a cheesecake. It was strawberry mousse on top, two layers of vanilla sponge cake and a mangoe custard in between. I am so disappointed. I asked specifically for cheesecake not a mousse cake. That's FALSE ADVERTISING.

A small neighbourhood bakery, nothing to do with Tokyo. We were waiting for our lunch order in the same plaza when we spotted this bakery. Went in and found it is a regular Chinese bakery. (Should have checked on yelp first as several others mentioned this in the past.) It's a small bakery, with wear and tear showing its age, but still had a number of offerings. We got six buns (not pictured) including red bean pineapple bun, pork bun, luncheon meat with egg buns, curry beef bun, and hotdog bun. We also got two cakes, chocolate and red bean&white chocolate cake. Total came to under $30. When we got in (around 2:45pm), the lady was on lunch break on the phone. We were already waiting up at the cash, trying to tell her our cake order but she was still on the phone for a while longer. She bagged the buns while on the phone. The cakes were not bad, the chocolate cake being a bit too dark for my daughter's liking. We enjoyed the lighter red bean and white chocolate cake. She did tape the cakes down in the box but they still ended up rolling around anyway, I guess from our drive/handling. read more

I think it's a lovely place for people who like desserts that are not too sweet, I'm devoted to cakes that taste a little bit sour, I have tried the cranberry cheesecake, chocolate cheesecake, mango mouse, blueberry cheesecake and red bean bun, I have to say that I love this place! The price is fare and the cakes are fresh! read more
