An awesome place to visit for great HK style pastries like buns, croissants, bread, and other bakery items. Perfect examples would be their egg tarts and birthday cakes. Beautifully crafted mousse cakes and macaroons also available here. Honestly, not sure how often patrons would buy those items from the fridge. So, I would rather go for those individually packed buns and croissants (lots of plastic wrapping shown in the photos, I know). Seems freshly baked every day from the kitchen at the back. They have a 10% off discount card available with a purchase over $30. It is not difficult to go beyond this purchase amount these days.

Saint Germain Bakery takes classic Cantonese baked items and pastries to an advanced level. I do enjoy the classic baked bun or tart from a mom and pop bakery, but Saint Germain Bakery offers a more deluxe option. They offer your classic lineup of buns (i.e. Pineapple Bun, Cocktail Bun, Sausage Bun), tarts (i.e. HK Egg Tart, Portuguese Egg Tart) and cakes to go alongside their unique creations. I highly recommend their Rose Raspberry Cheese Bun. A nice contrast of melted gouda and raspberry, it's a perfect breakfast to enjoy with coffee. The Portuguese Egg Tarts are one of the better ones out of all the Cantonese bakeries in Toronto and it is worth waiting for a fresh one out of the oven! It is worth the wait and drive to your local Saint Germain Bakery as you will be impressed with the quality and care they take for buns, pastries, and desserts!

They gave us a candle and pie lifter with the cake we ordered.

We always go here for the cheese tarts, chicken pie, and the many delicious treats that this bakery offers. For a birthday we ordered the durian cake. $30 for a 6 inch square cake I think. They were kind enough to write on it and also packed a candle and pie lifter with the box. Such a nice touch! Sometimes there is a line for this place as they can only have a small number of people inside due to restrictions. My family and I are repeat customers and will keep coming back.

OMG! Best Portuguese tarts ever. If you bake them before eating it's just magical. The buns and desserts are wonderful too!

February 8, 2021 - This is the second location in Toronto, I believe they are opening a third location at Fairview Mall. Saint Germain Bakery has a lot of good desserts to choose from, I normally get "Triple Cheese Toast*, Sweet Corn Bun, Green Onion Sausage Bun, Red Bean Pie, Portuguese Tarts* and a few other desserts. I've tried Portuguese tarts from the grocery store and a few other bakeries, I never really liked it. Not until I tried Saint Germain Portuguese tarts. I normally buy 6 for $11.50 and it's worth it for me. The tarts are so creamy and the crust is flaky and soft. The Triple Cheese Toast is creamy, and cheesy. Not cheesy as in cheese when you bite it and it pulls. But a rich cheesy flavour. I like to warm them for about 10-20secs. I will easily spend $30-$50 dollars and fee like I got my money's worth. I also bought some cake slices. I rarely eat cake. The Rose cake was very good. I liked the flavour. I wonder if I could have eaten the Rose petal? Maybe next time I'll ask. The Black Forest cake, I didn't like so much, it was a bit dry and I didn't like the chunks of fruit. There are still many things that I haven't tried. Also the cashier remembered me from the Markville Mall location, she asked if I worked at the mall, cause she saw me often.. lol I told her No, I just went to that location for Saint Germain a lot. She was too cute :D

Mold on the raspberry of the Red Bean Green Tea Bavarian Cake I had ordered. Picked up on June 5th, 2021.
    Tony X.

TLDR: Ordered a cake, had mold on it. Lost faith and trust in the bakery. Probably not going to be a customer anymore. I am a frequent customer of Saint Germain Bakery as I enjoy their Chinese style pastries and buns. I always had a pleasant experience but this encounter is going to deter me from returning. I ordered a Red Bean Green Tea Bavarian Cake online for my birthday and received a cake with mold on it. The cake was ordered 3 days in advance like the Saint Germain website requested for this type of cake. (Assuming they would need time to prepare the cake) When I picked up the order I did not notice at first but upon further inspection I received a cake with mold on the fruit. Seeing this disgusted me as this just shows the poor quality control at Saint Germain. This type of quality control is unacceptable in a bakery, especially since the shelf life of most of its products (pastries/buns) are 1-2 days. The compensation that they gave me was not a full refund (as I wanted) but another cake that was pulled from the display. Who knows how long this cake has been there for knowing that the previous cake was so old that it had mold growing on it. I will not be consuming the cake as I have lost faith in how "fresh" the cakes are. With Saint Germain being franchise in Canada, and the Pharmacy/McNicoll location being the only one in the Scarborough/Markham area still open, shouldn't the quality control be better than this? To anyone who is interested in ordering a cake from Saint Germain, please order a bigger size than the default 6" cake. The 6" cakes are all on display and they will just pull from the display when you are ordering their smallest size. Saddens me to say this but I will probably not be returning as a customer.

With the butter cream bun and triple cheese toast!

I was aware of their brand and how you can find them at malls in Scarborough and Markham. But because I'm not from the area, I never got the opportunity to try them. When I found out about their standalone store on Pharmacy and in the area, I decided to swing by. For Chinese bakeries, I prefer going early in the morning when everything's fresh and selection isn't picked over. They have a large selection of buns, pastries and cakes with many I haven't seen before at other Chinese bakeries. I picked up half a dozen buns with a couple of egg tarts. I got the triple cheese toast, green onion sausage bun, sweet corn bun, Yudane bread, matcha bun and butter cream bun. Egg tarts are my favourite, but I was a little disappointed with the egg tarts. I got there at 11am and it doesn't feel like they were fresh made the morning of. It felt like it was sitting there and kept warm only... The other buns were all individually wrapped sitting in the display case, but they were soft and fresh. I was happy with those ones! My pup absolutely loved the butter cream bun! there's a generous amount of cream in there and the bun was so soft! The triple cheese toast was really delicious and smelled heavenly! The matcha bun was interesting, inside the bun, there was red bean paste and a clear mochi that had no flavour. It's an interesting combination, not sure if I will purchase again though. Overall, I did enjoy their buns and will check them out again when I'm in the area!

The downside is that it doesn't make any drinks, unlike its Yonge and Eglinton location. I also recently found out that the Palgong Tea on Highway 7 in Richmond Hill offers The Social Blend macarons. You don't get the same extensive selection, but they are equally as creative and delicious. When I do visit the STC location, I park by Cineplex. It's by the main mall entrance next to Old Navy. I believe that it's entrance 2. It still has some construction happening. If you walk straight ahead from this entrance when you're in the mall, you'll see the back of The Social Blend. The name of the store is easy to spot. It's by Chick-fil-A. Staff here are always helpful and nice. I tend to have questions and they are great answering them. As usual, choosing macarons can be touch. I want all of them! I have had the following: - Watermelon - Green grape coconut - Raspberry - Tiramisu They were all super cute and yummy! You get a a lot of filling. It's not too sweet, which I like. The shell is crispy and chewy. The filling tends to be subtle, but yummy. So good! This store does not make drinks like its store on Eglinton does. However, it does have canned drinks. The Mulligan sparkling lemon black tea is excellent! I am happy that I have options to get The Social Blend macarons without hitting uptown Toronto. My experiences have been consistent. I'll be back soon. (385)

I placed my order for these items: - Peach coconut milk latte - Tiramisu macaron I got a message saying that it would take ten minutes to prepare my takeout order. It was enough time for me to drive there from my home. This cafe is located at Skycity Shopping Centre. It's bubble tea places galore in this plaza, with bubble tea joints likely in the double digits. I found a parking spot steps away from the door. I backed into it and went inside. It was busy at around 6 pm on a Tuesday evening. There were four people inside the store. There were two couples I was the only one who didn't have a couple, unless you count my imaginary friend... haha I didn't know where to stand at first. I stood in front of the order area. A man came over. He was handling everything by himself. I let him know that I had a Fantuan order and rattled off the last three digits of the order. He found it and handed it over to me in a bag. The pickup area was where the couple of couples were. I thanked him and left. My peach coconut milk latte looked pretty. It kind of looked like neapolitan ice cream in drink form, minus the vanilla. I wasn't able to select the type of milk that I wanted. I assumed that it was regular milk that I got. I know that you can also get oat beverage here. I could taste the coffee and coconut flavours. It's the peach that I barely tasted. It was still a yummy drink. I was happy that it was flavoured, as I am not a regular coffee drinker. I was pleased to see that this place has macarons. I ordered a tiramisu macaron, which went for $6. It must be good for that price! I can say that it was awesome. It's this gigantic macaron with large shells and a ton of tiramisu filling with a bit of chocolate cake inside. If you ever want a crazy macaron experience, you need to get one here. I savoured it. It tasted like tiramisu, but I was eating a mini sandwich that was heavenly and delightful! It was such a special macaron. I'd treat myself to a gigantic macaron again. Me time. Macaron time. I'll be back to try a tea and another macaron. (343)

It's a small cozy restaurant, only a couple tables for dine in, but due to the limited parking spaces in the area, it seems more popular for takeout/uber/fantuan orders. We were greeted warmly, and informed that luckily there were a few flavours left, as it was already quite late in the day and most would have been sold out already. We got one of each flavour, as listed: Lemon Pikachu, Pineapple Bulbasaur, Sea Salt Caramel Squirtle. The Pikachu had a good balance of sweet and tart. The Squirtle didn't taste like salted caramel, it tasted like sweetened butter. I didn't get to try the Bulbasaur, so can't speak on the flavour of that. Based on the poster, Bulbasaur wasn't coloured correctly, but it was still cute. Priced higher than other places and reasonably so, as you can tell they really spend time to perfect the cute designs. I just wish they worked on the filling a little bit more to have a product that's not only cute but tastes awesome, too. They also offer Asian dishes like braised beef noodles and pork chop, the aroma smells wonderful and something we will definitely be back to try. Based on the two issues (Squirtle flavour and Bulbasaur colour), I would rate this 3*, but overall experience was pleasant, so increasing to 4*.

I don't remember exactly what flavor it was, perhaps apricot, but a great treat overall. - Lemon pikachu macaron was my favourite of the three as I love citrus flavors. This was super lemony but not too tart. Final thoughts: The macarons not only look amazing but tasted great too! I love a macaron that has a bit of chew to the shell which these do and each one was super flavorful. They are definitely on the pricer side, but the craftsmanship that goes into the designs and the strong flavors make this a 5 star for me. I'll be back to try some of their food menu and more of their desserts!
