Birthday cake - chestnut cream with chocolate crisps!
Fontaine M.

One of the best places to go to for cakes and pastries. We have ordered whole cakes as well as bought the single serve cakes. They also have a mochi counter with a good selection of different fillings. The shop is usually playing some jazz or relaxing music as the aroma of the fresh baked goods fill the store. They also have beverages available. The latest one I tried was their Mont Blanc. I chose to try it because they do a phenomenal chestnut cake. You would never feel skimped on the chestnuts (as some places do) and the balance of sweetness and the earthiness of chestnuts is just perfect. The Mont Blanc here did not disappoint. It was in a tart format (lined with chocolate it seems) with a bit of cake in the tart topped with a generous portion of chestnut cream. It was also lightly decorated for Christmas which was a nice touch. I would also highly recommend their almond tea in a bottle. It's not to sweet and super smooth. It is a bit pricey but I do get it once in awhile as a treat. Tip: definitely join their loyalty program. You fill the account like a gift card and then they give you bonus vouchers. Gets you 10% off every time and then points to redeem for product. We have redeemed for a whole cake. It was awesome!

I used to go to the one across from Markville Mall but I'm so glad they opened up another location in this area. I've been ordering cakes from here for a while now. I love how they don't make them overly sweet compared to western places. I also love their Chinese buns and egg tarts. Their egg tarts are super delicious even though it's a bit pricey.

A Chinese bakery that is more modernized with lots of options for breads and cakes. Came in the morning and was my first time here. Upon entering, you'll notice they have a drinks/ bubble tea stall to the left of the store. On the right where majority of the action takes place is where they have all the buns displayed for a self serve style. Grab a tray and a pair of tongs and explore the delicious bread options. They have the classics like hot dog buns, pineapple buns, cha siu buns and more. They also have more interesting flavours like hot dog cheese buns, garlic bread buns, to name a few. Near their cash area you'll see a display of whole cakes and slices of cake. I've had them before and they're oh so delicious. They also have freshly baked egg tarts that keep coming out once in a while. There's plenty of tables for you to grab a seat and enjoy your buns after you've purchased them. Saw many people sitting down and enjoying their morning bread and coffee. Looks like a great spot to work from, not sure if they have free wifi though. Would come back again to grab more buns on the go or even their cakes. Their cakes are so delicious and not too sweet for the Asian palette.

If you have a soft spot for desserts, particularly cakes and pastries, Panash is defintely worth checking out. I dropped in at their location on Markham Rd for dessert after having lunch nearby. They have tons of choices and it was hard to pick just one but their Mango Mousse Cake whispered to me. It was pretty good - nice mango flavour, light, with just the right amount of sugar. Just right!

Delicious mochi

Very nice and cozy new location for this bakery! Their first location was at hwy 7. They originated back in Cheung Chau, Hong Kong. The Mochi selection is a wide selection from matcha red bean, creamy custard, lava silk stocking milk tea, durian, biggie mango and cutie mango. They were all so fresh and delicious made in house with fresh ingredients. The mango was fresh and the Mochi was a good texture, nice and chewy and not too thick! For durian lovers, the durian Mochi is a must try. They have milk tea made in house and bottled. Very convenient. The mango Pomelo sago and walnut paste were served cold. Perfect dessert as we enter the summer. If you like it warm, can always bring it home and warm it up. Their egg tarts were good! Must check this bakery out, mochis and desserts made from scratch, dedication, a piece of HK memory in Markham. Must try!

Love this new location! Beautiful spacious layout for two places to mingle into each other. Lots of bright natural light help showcase all the tasty treats to be had here. Egg tarts here and a must try. Two different tart shells, shortbread and flaky crust. The magic of lard makes the flaky layers of crust possibly, my absolute favourite! Their newer way to package half a dozen tarts also makes it impressive to bring over when visiting friends. It's a pretty yellow rectangular case, where each tart is well protected in its compartment. The buns have the moist soft, chewy and fluffy bread texture chew! This is made possible with the special technique of cooking part of the dough which makes these buns stay moist for a longer time as well. The BBQ pork is another must try as well as the pineapple bun which has fresh pineapples in it. Nothing is overly sweet or spicy, it's all kid friendly. One or two buns may help that lunch hunger if running errands in this busy area. $2-3/bun seems the normal pricing for quality bakery items. Fresh pressed milk alternatives like soy, walnut in the fridge section. Smaller roll cakes also found here, with typical flavours, vanilla, mango, matcha. Visit early for beat pick, as some treats were snatched up quickly! Tip: cash or debit only below $20, being small business and all.

Swiss cake rolls and sweetened almond cream

In early September, I was in the eastern part of Markham, visiting Urban Cova to order bubble tea for the first time. When I arrived, I noticed that Urban Cova and Panash share the same space. Cool! I backed into a parking spot steps away from the entrance. I was going into a Chinese bakery-bubble tea combo store. Brace myself. I could do a lot of damage. I sure did! After I ordered my bubble tea, I browsed around Panash. I looked at everything from Swiss rolls to coconut tarts. Everything looked amazing. I was lured into getting a tray and tongs, and I started picking up buns as if they were free. I settled for the following buns: - Pineapple bao with barbeque pork - Hot dog - Ham and egg - SPAM and egg - Coconut-filled - Ham and cheese I brought my tray of baked goods up to the counter. I got the nicest woman who automatically spoke to me in Cantonese. She placed each bun in its own hermetically sealed bag, and then placed everything in a larger bag with handles. She was efficient and made sure that my goodies were safely packed. She asked me how I'd like to pay. I was stumped trying to figure out how to say debit card in Cantonese. I've never had to do it. I can't use the term for credit card because it's different. So, I didn't translate it at all. It was debit. If anyone knows, I'm curious. I'll need to research it, because I had the same issue at C+ Tea recently, too. It still bugs me. I thanked the woman, who was gracious and incredibly nice, and headed to my car with bubble tea in one hand and baked goods in the other. I ate a bun a day for breakfast. I started with the SPAM and egg. So good! I loved the combination. I got a thick slice of SPAM with egg, protected by the fluffy bun. I need to get another one. The pineapple bao with barbeque pork also stands out as being awesome! There was lots of filling. The barbeque pork was delicious. I loved the sliced almonds on top of the cap that makes it a pineapple bun. Fabulous! I loved all the buns that I had bought. I have always enjoyed a coconut-filled bun since my childhood. It was the only one that wasn't savoury. It was slightly sweet and made me so happy. The bun that you don't get your bang for your buck is the ham and cheese one. It's a bun with a thin strip of ham on top, with melted cheese to keep the ham intact. It was yummy, but I felt that it needed more ham. I am drooling thinking about how yummy my bun haul was here. I need to return. I'd likely get a swiss roll and more baked items. (401)

Lotus Paste with pickled ginger and thousand year old egg
Ché P.

Desserts were amazing ... not overly sweet and just enough to share all the flavors. Charcoal cheesecake - soft and creamy, not a strong cheese flavor. Cookie monster cake - chocolate flavor, not for me. Almond coffee mousse cake - nice coffee flavor throughout just the almonds were not as crunchy as I would've like. There is a crispy layer between which brings good texture. Durian pandan cake - light durian and pandan flavors, and they both work well together. Lotus Paste with pickled ginger and thousand year old egg - really filled up with everything. It's a full of different flavors and textures .. one of my favorites. The lotus paste wasn't too sweet and the pickled ginger cuts the lotus paste so it goes very well along with the egg.

Panash Bakery is a great Chinese style bakery at Markham Road and Bur Oak that sells delicious mochi, egg tarts, buns, breads and cakes. This newer location of Panash Bakery is located on the same property as Urban Cova (which has since closed). I like the selection of baked goods here. They carry traditional Chinese bakery staples like egg tarts, pineapple buns, as well as crumble topped bbq pork buns. I absolutely adore their mango mochi. They are a bit pricey but I like that they are filled with a substantial and sweet piece of mango that is wrapped in chewy mochi without fillers such as red bean or whipped cream. Although there is a Panash bakery located closer to home, I prefer this location which has seating, is less busy, and where it's easier to find parking.

The tray of pork floss buns hits the perfect sweet, salty, and fragrant balance. The fried chicken bun was a standout. Crispy juicy chicken with mayo inside a slightly sweet bakery bun is an unstoppable combo. The Garlic Hot Dog was pretty average since I couldn't taste any garlic at all. The curry bun could use more filling, but the pastry itself was flaky and flavorful. The cheese chicken bun was huge and super satisfying. We got it fresh so the outside was crisp and the cheese stayed gooey. We also grabbed their famous egg tarts. They kept selling out and the kitchen was scrambling to keep up, so we pre-ordered and came back thirty minutes later to pickup. Totally worth it. The crust is flaky and buttery and the filling is silky and creamy. In our opinion, these are the best egg tarts in the city.

Coconut bun which was soft, fluffy, and not overly sweet. Egg tart was also really good. Crust is very buttery crust with a silky custard center. The wagyu curry bun had a rich and flavorful filling with just a hint of spice. Spam egg pineapple bun was also really gooood and the egg salad bun too. Also got a hotdog bun because I like hotdog. The buns were all excellent. Prices are fair for the quality, and the staff is kind and welcoming. Definitely a new go-to spot when I'm craving pastries and buns!

Also, if you think you'll go there often, very worth it to sign up for their membership and put money into it to redeem points with their bakery. Below are all the items I have tried so far, what I would rate them, and why: -[Minced Ham & Cheddar Cheese Stick]: 7/10 - wish it had more ham and more cheese but a solid bun overall. Not very filling so could consider making it better by adding more cheese/ham myself or actual sandwich ingredients -[Lava MT (milk tea) Mochi]: 10/10 - very flavorful but super hard to photograph -[Matcha Red Bean Mochi]: 10/10 - red bean paste filling is creamy and tasty. Green tea mochi compliments it very well too -[Ham & Egg Bun]: 10/10 - didn't get a photo of it but the egg is so silky that it looks likr a giant rectangular prism of pudding instead of egg. Adding cheese before toasting would make it even better -[Bonito Flakes & Crab Meat Bun w/Okonomiyaki Sauce]: 10/10 - get at least two of these next time. Only wish it were a little more filling -[Ham & Italian Cheese Bun]: 10/10 - has TONS of ham in it aka worth it -[Smoked Bacon & Swiss Cheese Roll]: 10/10 extremely flavorful -[Chicken Sausage & Cheese Bun]: 9/10 - has a bit of a tangy sauce on it as well. Good flavor combination -[Long Wiener Bun]: 10/10 - tastes like a dressed hot dog -[Ham & Cheese bun]: 10/10 - lots of cheese and ham -[Egg Salad Croissant]: 10/10 - has cheese and fried onions in it as well and a heaping amount of egg salad. Croissant is also extremely flaky -[Curry Beef Donut]: 3/10 - curry is on the sweeter side and the amount of filling is quite sad -[Mango Mochi] 10/10 - super sweet and juicy mango on the inside
