While the coffee itself was good, I was a bit disappointed by the blue rose latte, especially given that it was $7 and the fairly simple latte art. Such a cute little space, the interior really fits the theme of an train station! The in house made chips are a must try, they come in spicy or herbs. The smoked salmon was perfectly done. One of the favourite cafes my wife and I go to for brunch. Great service, simple but tasty food and great decor. What else can one ask for. We came on a week day and it was nice and quiet. We were guided to our table and picked our drinks and food. I let the service team member picked the coffee bean for my pour over. It's flavourful and just right. Finally got to try their coffee/tea lattes here, and it was well worth the wait (and effort to find a time when there was parking!). Staff are kind, hospitable, and more than happy to help you with recommendations :) Unlike other cafes, I love how you can choose your roast. While I definitely came for the gorgeous latte art, the quality of their espresso and matcha were fantastic as well. I got my matcha latte lightly sweetened, which allowed me to taste the depth of the tea paired with the creaminess of the milk. This is something that's often missing from places that use a lower quality matcha that doesn't require whisking. Next time, I'll have to try brunch here! read more

Super cozy brunch place and I'm a sucker for a themed restaurant. Platform Espresso Bar really embraces its proximity to that little stretch of train track that cuts through Hwy7. Very cute train-themed setting and menu. Came here for brunch a couple of times. Their menu is not the largest, but has some nice brunch staples at a reasonable price ($10-$15) with a bit of an Asian fusion twist. The food is decent with good portions. I have had their torched salmon open-faced toast and smoked salmon bagel and both were pretty tasty. My favourite part is their drinks. I'm not a huge coffee connoisseur but I love a latte any time. I really love their Warmy Cozy Latte which is made with fresh ginger and brown sugar. Their Hojicha latte also had a strong roasted tea flavour and their Torched Ube was a comforting combination. We came here on a Sunday past noon and it was packed! It was about 30 minute wait for a table, so we opted for takeaway. We noticed there were a couple tables which weren't cleaned up yet and only one staff making the drinks, so it seems this place was busy without enough staff. Anyway, we ordered the matcha love - this was a matcha latte with rose syrup and rose petals. It took awhile till our order was ready. Since there was no seating we enjoyed our drink in the car. I'm not sure what rose syrup is supposed to taste like but the latte wasn't too sweet which was perfect for our taste buds. The matcha also tasted fresh (not too bitter and not fishy at all). 1.5 hr seating limit, friendly staff but limited parking outside. Located in a very small plaza off of busy hwy 7 that you could easily miss the turn in. The good thing is, you can make reservations here so that's what we did. The restaurant has like this train conductor theme which is cute. The inside is very clean and modern with lots of oak touches. They have a section with books at the back. The food is 2/5 and lacked seasoning. I ordered the spicy chicken panini and it was hardly even spicy. I couldn't taste any spice. The chicken was also really bland. The best part of it was the mayo which was supposed to be spicy but just tasted like mayo. I upgraded to curly potatoes but it was actually just chips. I got the spicy one and again, I couldn't even taste the spice. I couldn't even taste the salt either. IDK it was very underwhelming. The best part of today's brunch was the drink 4/5. Given that this place is known for espresso (it has it in it's name), I got a latte. The latte was really good. You can choose between 3 different roasts, light, med, or dark. I went with dark. Overall, this is a cute spot to come grab a quick hot beverage with a friend. But you should get here early for parking sake. Overall 3.5 for food. 4.5 for coffee. Service is a good 4.5. Friendly staff, nice little venue. Clean and love the coffee equipment all over. The coffee at Platform is very well crafted by the barista. The flat white I ordered with their dark roast was very rich and dark in flavour, which paired very well with the smooth creamy and sweetness of the natural milk. Overall, the americano was also not overly bitter but light yet chocolatey. I like how their menu shows you what you will anticipate from each blend. Makes it fun and remind me of the coffee culture in Melbourne. Food wise, it was a bit underwhelming and option was a bit limited likely due to the pandemic. Service was relatively slower too, even though it was just us as dine in, but I wasnt in a rush and we understand it is likely due to less staffing. Avocado Toast with Truffle Oil Eggs Scramble 3.5/5 - eggs were nicely cooked as they were fluffy and silky smooth, the way I like them. The toasted bread was also quite soft and pillowy with a good crust that wasnt hard or overly toasted. Points down goes to the very subtle notes of truffle, where some parts didnt really have much of the flavours either. Otherwise, the dish came with approx 2 cups of greens with a drizzle of dressing. While it wasnt too expensive, it didnt really feel complete and would have preferred a bit more truffle flavor. My friend ordered their big breakfast I think it's called, with eggs, bacon, hash brown and toast. Looked nice and standard, and she also felt indifferent. Overall, decent food but limited options at the time being. Coffee is definitely worth praising here though given so many opened in Markham nowadays. Friendly staff gives it more points as well. I am surprised I never reviewed this cafe even though I've visited it a few times over the last few years. It is still a great choice for brunch and coffee and just overall chill vibes. The tables are smaller so groups of 4 people at most can fit at the tables. They have a few tables at the back with outlets for you to plug in your laptop if you need to work. There is a 1.5 hour seating limit. The latte and the hazelnut chocolate lattes are both good, as is their smoked salmon bagel sandwhich which I had twice I think. Great neighbourhood gem and I am happy to see more of these pop up across Markham but it's not the type of cafe/restaurant that's worth a trek across town for if you are on the hunt for the best cafe or brunch or anything like that. Review is from December** I was looking into new brunch places to go to and saw this one with a semi-train theme going on. It looked fun so we decided to try it out. First of all, the servers and baristas were so nice and welcoming, we were quickly shown to a nice more secluded table near the back. The decor was really cute and when we were here they were playing k-pop music. Everything was really clean too. For drinks, we ordered the rose latte and their mocha (it is made with dark chocolate), I 100% prefer the rose latte - it was so warm and had a light sweetness to it. Yes there was a rose taste but it was really pleasant without overpowering the taste of the coffee. For food we ordered the breakfast sandwich and chicken panini wrap. Both were really nice, the breakfast sandwich had thicker bread compared to toast or an english muffin. We also got the banana bread which was hands down one of the best banana breads I have ever eaten. I was so soft but full of the banana flavour and served warm. Really cute cafe! I was lucky being only person in on a Tuesday morning. The seating is quite limited so I wouldn't recommended for large parties. They have some early morning (before 11am) specials so I was able to pair my matcha latte with azuki brioche. I thought it was fitting that the named the combo Ohayo. Since they didn't have brioche they kindly replaced it with a waffle for me. The latte was decent but I do prefer matcha latte on the sweeter side than what they offered. Also I wish they hadn't messed up the latte art but the barista was apologetic. The waffle was soft and fluffy--nothing out of the world but a filling breakfast for me. I took the time to have some creative alone space which I felt this was a good ambiance for. They have outlets at every table and wifi. This is a such a cute coffee shop that looks like it came straight out of Pinterest! It's the perfect little place for a nice brunch date. The parking is a shared lot and quite small but I got a spot right away on a weekend for brunch. There were a lot of people waiting at the front (all waiting for their coffee to go) so I was seated immediately. Service was good from the moment we walked in. The barista at the front was friendly, as was our server. The wait for our food wasn't long at all, so that was great too. The menu is simple and straight forward so it was very easy for me to decide on what I wanted. My partner and I ordered the Platform Waffle and the Sunrise Waffle. They were both yummy but I preferred the Sunrise Waffle more. I think I spent too much time trying to take pictures of the Platform waffle because it got soggy (oops!) The potato curls were soo addicting! I couldn't stop munching on these. The pricing is average at $15-16 for each waffle. Of course, I had to order something to drink at Platform Espresso Bar. I ended up ordering a cappuccino. They were supposed to have two types of espresso to choose from but as they were in between seasons, there was only one in stock, which I was completely fine with. My gps insisted I make a u-turn to get into the plaza when I could have turned left into the plaza off of highway 7. One of my favourite brunch spots in Markham! Was a little disappointed upon my first visit, but I was glad I gave this place another chance as I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of their other menu items. First time coming here was pre-COVID where I got the platform sandwich. Personally I found the sandwich less than mediocre... the combined dryness of the chicken and waffle made my mouth feel like the Sahara desert and the onions gave it a very unpleasant, slimy-like texture. I decided to revisit after COVID hit and I was super glad I did! I really enjoyed the sunrise club sandwich with the herbed potato curls. The eggs are normally over-easy which helps with the dryness of the waffle, and the mix of bacon, avocado, and mushrooms complement each other perfectly. The herbed potato curls are super crunchy and taste similar to chips without being too salty. I've also tried the avocado toast which is great if you want a lighter meal. There's not much to it - just avocado, bread, and side of salad, but delicious nevertheless. They also have a very unique list of drinks and all of the ones I've tried so far were delicious - particularly the rose and hojicha lattes. Ordered two sandwiches: Pacific and Torched Salmon. They gladly took our request to swap out wasabi mayo for regular mayo. The salmon on both dishes was great and was clearly the star of each sandwich. The house salad was sufficient but the dressing could use a bit more kick. Also ordered a light roast cappuccino and a matcha tea latte. The microfoam was a bit subpar but overall a decent drink with a nice vibrant roast. The matcha tea latte was quite nice and they also happily offered to add more syrup if we wanted. Very clean and cozy place, that isn't too loud or crowded on weekdays. Service was phenomenal from start to finish. We originally ordered a side of potato curls which didn't seem like was coming, and after asking, they brought over our order on the house. A great find, or better yet, have the GTA's top Yelper introduce you to a cool little espresso bar. Decorated in light colour wood with booths along one side of the shop, and the kitchen and espresso bar on the other. This CHIC place is truly a gem in Markham. If it had some comfy seats, it could be Markam's "Central Perk." I was shown the $24K Slayer. That would be their espresso machine. I know these things are expensive but wow! $24K to get every last essential flavours and creama out of a bean, so that overly caffeinated peeps can go on with their day. I would hate to have it go haywire as I don't think people have spares lying around. The menu is pretty short. Have some form of beans and if you are hungry has a light snack or have a waffle! I had a lactose-free Ethiopian bean latte. Oh...wow...what flavours. How I love the sweet, milky, and burnt caramel-like taste! Can't get that from a Nespresso! The latte-art is nice to see - however, everyone is doing it. It's cute...to see hearts but maybe for me, you can do something more...manly. Maybe a hammer, a power drill, a football helmet...heck...I'll settle for a golf ball! Espresso to me is Expresso - you're in and you're out! Had to go next door to Hibiki for lunch. Looking to grab coffee in the area and I stumbled across this gem while looking through yelp. I said to le boyfriend - WERE GOING HERE. I am definitely so happy I did. Located in a tiny plaza this establishment sits in the middle of it all. Doesn't look to nice from the outside however when you walk in it transforms into a beautiful bright cafe. We were greeted right when we walked in. Once placed at a booth the very kind employee asked if we were on a lunch break (which to me means that they are conscious to accommodate people whom may be on lunch break) I just wanted coffee but I went with a pour over drip coffee - Moksnisa Natural (Ethiopia) also had their in house made banana bread. Platform is a really great place to get some work done. It has awesome drinks, great service and fast wifi. Platform is my go-to coffee shop in Markham. I usually come here on weekdays but have been here on weekends too. On weekdays, it's pretty easy to get a spot and the seating is typically big enough for your food + drink, a notebook, and a 15-inch laptop. The place is relatively quiet and there isn't too much traffic on a weekday, so you can really get into the zone. On weekends though, its a lot harder to get a seat and I would suggest calling in ahead of time. The problem is that since this is a coffee shop, once there are no seats, it's going to be pretty long for you to get a seat. However, they do have a 1.5-hour seating limit on days they are pretty busy. I feel like they don't enforce the seating limit on less packed days like weekdays. Wifi is also blessed at this place and you'll be able to surf the web and do what you need to do without any lag. The drinks and food is soooo good. I was expecting the drinks to be good (matcha latte usually) but the food is also awesome. Don't be afraid to eat here because you won't be disappointed. I think I've gone through the majority of their menu now and they only thing I don't really like is the cost of the sweet potato fries because you don't get that many. That said, everything else is great. The service is great and the servers there know to not bother you that much if you're deep into work. They are also very attentive and it's been a super pleasant interaction with them so far. I'll for sure be coming back here once they re-open for sit-in service. I can't recommend this place enough for weekdays. Working here on weekdays is a 5/5, but I would say that the weekends are hit-or-miss, giving this place a 4/5 on weekends. We were greeted warmly and had our choice of seating. I was immediately drawn to the bright, clean and modern decor with lots of trains (hence "Platform"). Now it all made sense. The bar area had these ingenious hooks attached to hang bags/purses. We ordered from the breakfast menu which had "set" breakfasts. I had the French toast with a choice of coffee or tea. There were all the listed teas in test tubes for sniffing while choosing and it was an easy choice for me since I like fruity teas. The peach apricot was divine! Fruity. Definitely. The French toast came in cubes and the presentation was very nice. Each cube was browned and crisp with a subtle cinnamon flavour. Though the bowl of cubes seemed small, it was quite filling (not sure if it was from being a bit oily tasting) My hubby got the Ohayo breakfast which included a matcha latte. The latte was a bit bitter for his tastes so he opted for more syrup. The milk bread toast came with butter and a red bean paste which was quite tasty. My friends and I wanted to go to a brunch place and my friend suggested platform espresso. Definitely a very cute and small venue but the staff is super welcoming and attentive. When I came into the cafe, my friends weren't there yet but I was able to get seated for a table of 5. The waitress was attentive and asked me if I wanted to order and brought water for the table. Must order: mushroom soup & a beverage The beverages were done with designs at the top and my matcha green tea was on point. The mushroom soup was to die for... I would have ordered another one. The aesthetic and design of he cafe is cute with it's train theme. Very well thought out and executed. Tried both Ethiopian and Brazilian coffee. Brazilian carries a slight chocolate and nutty flavour with a bitter finish. Ethiopian tastes more floral and less bitter, not as pungent as you would get from an Ethiopian restaurant.
