    Ube french toast
    Jonathan F.

Daily Grind takes classic brunch staples and gives them a Southeast Asian twist. The result is creative, colorful, and fun. Let's start with the drinks. The Vietnamese coffee with ube foam? Incredible. Rich, sweet, and bold with a fluffy, purple cloud on top. I could have easily ordered another. I also tried the salted butterscotch drink, which was fine, but next to the Vietnamese coffee, it didn't stand a chance. Food-wise, we sampled a few things. The Viet Madame sounded amazing on the menu. It's their version of a croque madame with Vietnamese-spiced pork. In reality, it was just okay. The Benny, on the other hand, was a knockout. Imagine a perfect croissant turned into eggs Benedict. Flaky, buttery, and exactly what you want it to be. The ube French toast also deserves a shoutout. Lightly crisped, topped with strawberries, mango, and more of that dreamy ube foam. Easily a standout. The vibe is super casual. We sat on the patio, which felt a bit bland but worked for a sunny morning. I didn't see the interior. Service was on point. Not overly warm but efficient and quick. If you're in the mood for brunch that plays with bold flavors and isn't afraid to mix things up, Daily Grind delivers. Just make sure something with ube makes it to your table.

This is a great brunch place in West end with a really nice patio! Not only do they have the classic breaky but they also have a lot of unique items too like Vietnamese coffee, french toast with ube cream and ricotta pancakes! I got a flat white and the summer toast which was packed with yummy flavours! Server was very nice and answered all our questions.

Cute spot with a patio and heaters. We sat inside and the staff were great. Got the Vietnamese coffee both hot and cold, the Turkish eggs, and the pandan pancakes. Loved the coffee and the pandan pancakes were good, but the Turkish eggs weren't what I was expecting at all. They were sweet and the entire meal ended up being too sweet. It's a flavorful dish if you're looking for something sweet, but Turkish eggs are generally savory with a little kick thanks to the chili oil. Definitely wouldn't get that again, but I would try other dishes.

The absolute best owners and people!!

It's honestly a tragedy that I don't live in Toronto, because The Daily Grind quickly became one of my all-time favorite brunch spots during my weekend birthday trip. Tony and Thuy are two of the kindest, most genuine people you'll ever meet, and it shows in the way they treat their customers and the love they pour into every dish. We ended up visiting The Daily Grind three times during our four-day trip (yes, it's that good), and we highly recommend the ube French toast, lemon ricotta pancakes, steak sando, winter toast (seasonal!), and avocado toast. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. As for drinks, you have to try the ube and pandan whipped coffees--they were honestly kind of life-changing. The cafe itself is bright, airy, and the perfect spot for brunch with a friend or a group. Tony made a point to understand our dietary needs each time we ordered and even shared some amazing local Toronto recommendations with us (he's a native!). Both he and Thuy treated us like family from the moment we walked in, and they truly made my birthday weekend feel extra special--with some surprise sweet treats, too. So thoughtful!! Toronto locals, you're seriously lucky to have a gem like this in your city--don't take it for granted! The Daily Grind will 100% be my first stop the next time I'm in town. :) Miss you already, Tony and Thuy!

A solid solid brunch place. I'm quite picky when it comes to brunch food. Probably because it's not up there for me. But my friends are, so we end up brunching a lot. And this place is arguably my favorite brunch spot in the city. The menu has all the 'better' brunch food in my opinion: blueberry pancakes, sandwich, a good hash. In addition, it has an Asian twist to the flavors like pandan and ube. I would come back obviously.

Smells so good in here, at breakfast. Bacon. The important stuff: Coffee is really good. Had the salmon scrambled eggs with salad. Delicious. Hubs had the Eggs Benedict with maple bacon which he was very enthusiastic about. I loved the bright simple decor and all of the staff were perfect. Love it when we find a gem like this.

Cute spot just steps off Bloor with a menu that is both short yet extensive. Classic brunch with some sandwiches thrown in. Summer double the capacity and lots of thrift shopping awaits while you wait or after you're done refuelling. An additional 6-star for making every plate look like it was taken from a photoshoot.

    Jessica Y.

Small but powerful and packed place. From the coffee to the food and service, this cafe deserves a thumbs up. It's exploratory familiar Vietnamese food flair with a good twist is just what it needs to make their menu interesting. Beware of the wait, but it's all worthy of it.

Updated review: A lot has changed since my first review of Daily Grind when I first checked out this coffee shop 5 years ago. They've expanded their menu to include brunch and have more seating available! I opted to try brunch at Daily Grind after reviewing their unique menu. They do not take reservations where it is all walk in. My husband and I decided to go to Daily Grind on a Sunday around 11am. We did have to put our names on the waitlist where we were told a table for 2 would be about a 30 min wait. We were not particularly picky about sitting at the counter or at a table. We only had to wait around 20 min at a nearby coffee shop before we received a text stating that there was a table ready for us. We took about 5 min getting back to Daily Grind. Upon seating, we were given water and greeted by the server. The menu can be viewed online via QR code. Food wise, I opted for the "Getting Crabby" (spiced scrambled eggs, wild caught crab meat, horseradish sour cream, salmon roe, onion sprouts, lemon zest yuzu, tomato, house salad, and toasted brioche bread). The dish sounded unique and the eggs with all the other components worked interestingly well together. There was a big portion of house salad which I appreciated. The lemon zest yuzu and the horseradish sour cream cut through the fish-ness of the eggs and crab meat. I couldn't finish my toast as my husband and I also shared the lemon ricotta pancakes. 4 fluffy nicely stacked ricotta pancakes with lemon curd and wild blueberries as well as a huge dollop of whipped cream on top. The pancakes were filling and hearty and tasted great although I wished there was a bit more lemon curd. My husband opted for the Bo Kho (Vietnamese stew) - slow cooked beef brisket in tomato stew, potatoes, carrots, 2 eggs, and crispy onions. The dish also came with toast. I've had bo kho before elsewhere and this one tasted great as well. Definitely a rich and hearty stew - come hungry if you want to finish this! Overall, service was great, food was good and the space had a relaxed and chill vibe. Would return for more!

I've only heard great things about this place and it didn't let me know. This cute restaurant is amazing with wonderful owners. They were very friendly and all of the food was made so well. EVERYTHING was amazing and I mean everything. Viet coffee especially. Please go here and support this lovely couple!

Great brunch place with super cute interior decor! I wanted to try multiple dishes on the menu so I'm glad they offer their pancakes in a half stack (not seen on the menu). The lemon ricotta pancakes were fluffy and had a great balance of flavours between the berries and lemon curd sauce. 5/5 The bone marrow dish, consist of a bone marrow, sausage patties, eggs and toasts. If you love bone marrow, this is the dish for you, the sausage patty also took me by surprise as you can tell it was home made with very unique flavour profile as opposed to your generic McDonalds patties. I only wish the dish came with another piece of bone marrow as one is simply not enough! 4/5 Egg Benny; I got it with maple bacon and I added a slice of avocado. Overall, it tasted pretty good but nothing special. I was also not a fan of their roasted potatoes, a bit on the chewy side. 3/5 Honourable mention: Vietnamese coffee. If you love strong tasting coffee, this is a must try! The server also went above and beyond as he took your preferred sweetness into consideration! 4/5

The Benedict, Maple Bacon, The Marrow

Bone marrow : 4.5/5 Carnivore ( steak and eggs ) : 5/5 Benedict : 3/5 Potato Wedges : 5/5 Bacon : 4/5 Vietnamese Coffee : 3/5 Service was friendly and nice, place looked cute and clean and they had hand sanitizers on each table. :) Overall it was an amazing experience! I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised! Came in expecting a regular breakfast joint but it was a Asian fusion style breakfast! The bone marrow itself was a 100/10 it was so amazing with amazing flavour! The chimichurri and candied chilis were- *CHEFS KISS* divine. It was a perfect balance of flavours nothing too overpowering over the other. The marrow lost points for the pork patty. It was a bit too sweet for me and gamey (which is kind of weird I didn't know pork could be gamey). The Carnivore is a steak and eggs plate that comes with a side of salad or potato wedges. I definitely recommend getting the salad for something to balance out having so much protein / carbs but honestly the potatoes we so delicious I won't judge you for getting them. When the plate came out I wasn't expecting much but the steak was also so flavourful and tender and the portion is just perfect for a light meal like breakfast or lunch. The Benedicts concept of serving it on a croissant is amazing! I love croissants and it would go so well with the hollandaise sauce but it was just okay. I think it's the lack of ingredients because it only comes with either the poached eggs by itself, with bacon, with smoke salmon or with avocado, nothing else. The potato wedges we so good the season was amazing and it was the perfect texture! The flavours of the bacon was good just soft and soggy- wasn't crispy enough. The Viet ice coffee was similar but it was definitely watered down with either water or milk. Viet coffee is made normally as a strong- and I mean STRONG espresso, sweetened with a thick, creamy, condensed milk and the coffee we got today tasted more like a cappuccino.

    Brennan B.

This is the best little coffee shop/brunch spot in the area. Coffee is great, food is great with unique twists. But the breakfast sandwich is soooooooooooo BOMB! Are you sick and tired of basic breakfast sandwiches? Egg, cheese, bacon, bread? Then come here and try their breakfast sandwich, it's got this beautiful garlicky tangy avocado spread on it with maple Bacon, and cheese. Get 2 because you will inhale the first one without even realizing what happened.

I really enjoyed my dish! The duck was cooked perfectly. Duck was moist and flavorful. The crispy rice gave it a nice texture and helped make it a more filling dish. The orange sauce is a classic pairing with duck. The basque cheesecake has some delicious cherries! But the cheesecake itself was a little more burnt than I personally prefer. The crème brûlée had a very thick caramelized layer on top. But the creme was smooth and sweet. It'd be a great spot for a date night. But those with sensitive ears should proceed with caution. For me, atmosphere and ambiance are just as important as the food and drinks, so I was more than a little disappointed when we were shown to a small table right by the door. We were so close to the door, in fact, that I found myself making awkward eye contact with everyone that walked in. Far worse, our table was about six inches away from the table next to ours, which made private conversation impossible and essentially killed anything resembling an intimate vibe. Thankfully the food and drinks made up for the lackluster atmosphere. I started with one of their martinis and it was absolutely fantastic. If there's a better martini anywhere in the city, I'd be surprised. The food was just as good. We started with their delicious bread and delectable butter, and followed that up with the above-average French Onion Soup. The Bitter Greens Salad managed the impossible: it made radicchio delicious. And finally, the Steak Frites ended the meal on an absolutely jaw-dropping note. I can't remember when (or even if) I've ever had steak this flavorful and this tender. Absolutely incredible. Aside from the far-from-romantic feel, I very much enjoyed my meal at Milou. Maybe we'll return someday and I'll request a more intimate table.

They also have pastries that you're able to grab as well while grabbing a drink. This particular location is not accessible as there are some steps you need navigate in order to reach the entrance. However, the small patio at the back of the cafe is the perfect space to spend some time when the weather is warmer. Having been to Forget Me Not several times, their espresso based drinks are always great. However, I tried their banana bread matcha latte last year when it went viral and it wasn't bad. This year, they have their banana bread latte series again but they now have a banana bread hojicha latte. Being a huge fan of hojicha, I had the banana bread hojicha latte recently at Forget Me Not and it tasted pretty great! Price wise, it is on the more expensive side. Service wise, the staff at this coffee shop are always friendly and service is efficient where drinks are made at a reasonable time. Overall, a solid spot for coffee along the Ossington Strip! Definitely love the small patio they have at the back, the perfect place to escape to during the warmer months.

Forget Me Not seemed quite promising, so we popped in and I began perusing the menu. I knew I wanted some cold, so I was immediately drawn to the Vanilla Dream Cold Brew ("cold brew brewed for 12 hours topped with house-made vanilla sweet cream"). It's delicious. The rich coffee and that vanilla sweet cream balance each other out perfectly. It's a refreshing, satisfying concoction that reminded me a little of the similar drinks I just quaffed at Disneyland. The fine folks at Forget Me Not Coffee obviously know exactly what they're doing. I'll be returning very soon, that's for sure.
