Cafe 85 signature salad with duck confit
    Janice Y.

I absolutely loved my brunch here at Cafe 85. Believe me I tried a couple times to walk-in on a Saturday to grab a seat and we were always unsuccessful. Weekday brunch is easier to get a seat, if you're nearby. They serve unique and fresh options besides the classic brunch dishes you would expect. I ordered their signature Cafe 85 salad and topped with duck confit while my partner got the beef shakshuka. Both came starred and recommended on the menu. The salad is colourful and tasty. It's light and filling with some beet puree, greens and sweet potatoes mixed in with some watermelon radish, pecans. I recommend the duck confit add on for a boost in protein without being overly rich, which I was worried about. My partner also enjoyed his shakshuka as well. I felt overall like a delicious and healthy meal. For those who enjoy matcha in the morning, I also recommend the spicy morning matcha that comes with cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and honey. Who knew those spices pair so well with matcha!

Visited for the first time, we ordered the holiday special latte, the Dutch baby and the Shakshuka The Shakshuka was really tasty and rich in flavours. The Dutch baby was kind of sad. Nothing like I imagined. It tasted like flat pancakes that didn't rise properly. It was really dense. Don't recommend. The drinks were okay. If you ordered a Dutch baby. It's a 20 min wait time. Unfortunately the anticipation didn't match the outcome. The place itself is aesthetic and cute. It feels cozy.

Busy, new downtown spot. Book ahead if you want a seat! Both dishes we tried the beef kebab shakshuka and Dutch baby savoury were good but the star of the two definitely is the shakshuka. Super flavourful and tasty. Ordered the RAF Coffee made with honey, cream and espresso. It's not mind blowing. It's quite sweet if you like your coffee this way. Very clean and attentive staff. It's a good addition to the area.

This brunch place recently opened up near us and we were very excited to give it a try. The restaurant itself is fairly spacious and nicely decorated. Staff were friendly and attentive and it wasn't too busy. The food itself was nothing special unfortunately. The plating was nice but we felt the portions were a bit small considering the price. For example the tiramisu was such a tiny amount, took us about 2 bites to finish. Food tasted fine but nothing to rave about. Unfortunately, probably only a one time visit for us though it is in a very convenient location.

I was here with my husband for the Father's Day celebration. We missed the Yelp event in Richmond Hill, but I looked the Yelpers' comments and pictures, it sounded a nice place to go. We went on Sunday's brunch, Downtown location was quite busy. Lucky that I made a reservation online and we didn't have to wait. Whoever no reservation, the wait time will be 40mins. Quite a few things I was trying to have before, the steak and the salmon, and some drinks, but they were only in Richmond Hill location. Downtown one has changed the menu a while ago. We got the Pork Belly Benedict, Super Bowl with Chicken, and a drink of Summer Breeze. All dishes were well displayed. Just they were not big enough for a man portion. The Summer Breeze was really refreshing, with slices of Apple, Orange and I think it's lemon juice. It was a bit sour, so we asked for more honey. The restaurant was busy, and servers were still really nice to us. I definitely want to come back, but a bit far, but I can try Richmond Hill location next time.

Solid brunch spot in the area. Just a bit slow with service. Came here for brunch Sunday morning around 1030am with a friend. The place was very busy and we joined the waitlist for a 20 minute wait. Luckily theres lots to check out in the area so we just walked around until we received a call. The restaurant was bright, clean, and inviting! But a tad cramped Once we were seated it took a really long time before water, menus, were given to us, and an even longer time before our orders were taken. It was really busy. The food was solid, with a good mix traditional and fresh items/drinks. No complaints for the food aside from the sausage in the tacos was a little bit dry but rest of the flavours were good. Drinks were good too! Would come back if I'm not in a rush!

This Cafe 85 location is super convenient, right under the Livmore building at the corner of Gerrard and Bay. This area struggles a bit with brunch options as most of the restaurants under the Liberties and College towers are more dinner locations then breakfast/lunch cafes. The food here is plenty tasty and although the mains have good portions, the drinks and desserts are tiny. Furthermore, for the price of the drinks, you get a pretty watered down experience. The place is very nice though and would be a great place to bring clients, visitors, or host a small get together. The staff is attentive and they have a variety of seating options and arrangements. Especially with the street level floor to ceiling glass walls, you get a ton of light and it feels spacious. We had the 85 Fizz, which didn't really taste like anything, definitely didn't taste the lychee. I'd get something more traditional next time to get a better feel of their cold drinks menu. The 85 Tiramisu was also very small, although it was tasty, there are bakeries nearby that have better portions. The others in our group ordered the bowl options as well as the benedicts, those were great hits. I'd recommend coming here for their brunch food, hot drinks, and atmosphere, there are lots of other options for cold drinks and desserts in the same block. There is also a good level of foot traffic from the local offices in the area.

This Bistro serves brunch and various non-alcoholic drinks. It has a very nice and bright vibe inside. Everything is meticulous, including the table settings and (artificial) flowers at each table. This is their second location. It soft-opened on 2025-02-27. The "85" means coffee brewed at 85 Celsius. We ordered the following: 1. Flat White 2. Hazelnut Souffle Latte Both drinks were good! The Hazelnut Souffle Latte was amazing. The Souffle sits high above the Latte. There are 3 coffee beans at the top of the Souffle! The Flat White came with a Biscoff cookie! Nice touch. The customer service was good. We will come back to try their food and other drinks. There is a loyalty program where you earn points and get free coffee with every purchase. There is free WiFi. There cafe is wheelchair accessible. There are two gender-neutral washrooms, one of which is wheelchair accessible. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. There are two high chairs for little children. Review 2025-035

If you are ever near Bay & Gerrard W, looking for a spot for bunch. Come to Cafe85. This place has a refreshing menu and boy, we saw so many dishes on other people table that are so refreshing. We just had a mushroom Benny. They use croissant bread. It's like having a croissant while taking in the mushroom aroma in. Yummmmmmmmmmmm indeed.

Service was great and i enjoyed how you may work on your computer. they have a point system for you to collect points for every dollar you spend. I ordered the fish taco and the Montreal Smoke meat Benny/ Waffle. I loved the Fish taco cause they used a pineapple salsa topped with an avocado mix. The Montreal Smoke meat was too salty, The salad the came with the benny was overly dressed with Vinegar... the egg did not oozz out yoke so the soft boiled egg is mehhh. I've had better benny's else where.. To be honest I did enjoy the atmosphere of the cafe the most.

cute aesthetic and friendly staff. Staff was eager to take our orders. Dishes look visually stunning, great for online posts, but a little lacklustre when eating.

Great place for brunch - the atmosphere is really nice and its easy to make reservations online through Yelp. Food does take some time to come out.

This small little bake shop had a menu hanging up, but I completely ignored it thanks to the baked goods right behind the counter that I was too busy staring at. I knew right away that I was going to order a Chocolate Croissant because, well, I always order a Chocolate Croissant if one is available. After making my first choice, this strange little baked good caught my eye, and it turned out to be something called a Cruffin.......a Cruffin you say? What is a cruffin? WELL, let me tell you. The cruffin is basically like a muffin, but like, with cheese and pepperoni on it so obviously I hate to order that sexy little bad boy right away. This thing wasn't big, but it was very dense and basically tasted like pizza crust which was absolutely delicious. After eating the cruffin, the Chocolate Croissant seemed way less cool but I ate it anyway. It tasted good and the chocolate was actually spread across the whole thing so they get an even bigger thumbs up for doing it right. Overall, COBS Bread was the spot! I had no idea this was a chain, but who cares, this place was great. I really liked the Cruffin I got and the croissant was really good as well. I will absolutely be revisiting COBS Bread when I come back to Canada and devouring a few more cruffins while I'm at it!

The one thing I'd say that will elevate this from a…read more5 to a 10 is if somehow they can get that glaze at the bottom of the bun to be i side of the bun. The interior is dry while the bottom and top is moist. It's height and width is too high and wide so any attempts to bite (to get that moist sweetness to mask the middle dryness) just guarantees a joker's smile of smeared sugar... so, overall a decent bun, but nothing you'd dream daily about. Want to also add the store is very well organized with their display of goods and the service is professional and efficient.

I literally have nothing to say bad about this place, because that is how much I love their food. The menu is huge with so many varieties of subs/sandwiches to choose from, truly all of them are the best. The staff is so kind and are very welcoming, they allow you to modify the sandwich in case there is anything you don't want on it. There is also a lot of seating for you to come in and eat as well, incase you did not want to take out. Now onto the sandwiches! I kid you not, the bread here is the most softest, fresh bread which also does not get soggy with all the toppings/sauces that get put on it. And then all the toppings that get added are super fresh. These sandwiches truly are addicting but also worth the money! I will always go back for the Chef's Choice sub which comes with: Grilled Chicken Strips, Avocado, Tomato, Hot Pepper, Fresh Onion, Olives, Crispy Onion, Pesto Sauce & Grandma's Homemade Hot Sauce. I truly truly recommend this off their menu if you are looking for something you want to keep coming back for. 10/10 Recommend!!!

I agree that the price for a sandwich plus side salad is quite pricey ($13 including tax) but I like the fact that everything tastes fresh and light, and you have alot of options to customize your sandwich in a healthy way. I ordered the rosemary focaccia with chicken breast, arugula, avocado and chipotle spread plus their usual sprinkle of salt, pepper and squeeze of lime. It's like a gourmet sandwich - the bread was thick, soft with hints of rosemary and yummy. The salad was mostly arugula with carrots- this was very lightly seasoned but at least I won't be hit with itis going back to work! Definitely would come again, although not regularly since it's kinda pricey.

I'm going to continue with my overtime take out review series with Sandwich Box. You would think making a sandwich is probably not the most complicated task out there, but this place seems to get it all wrong. My order consisted of an egg salad sandwich on whole grain bread with a side salad. When I received it, I only got the sandwich and the restaurant failed to tell me the salad was no longer included in the combo (yet the price remained the same). That's great that the online menu was not updated to include items no longer available, a simple update would address all these problems knowmsayin? Now on to the actual sandwich, the bread was thick. I mean so thick it looked like there was about a half an inch of eggs inside of two encyclopedias worth of bread. The eggs themselves, totally flavorless and bland. Kinda hard to mess up an egg salad sandwich right? Even Tim Horton's can get that right! To make things short and sweet, I'll be looking over this option the next time I'm working late or considering a sandwich in the downtown area.
