Another Asian Fusion brunch place. This one has been around for a while. The interior is a decent size and tables are packed closely together. When we arrived it was busy and there was one table open near the entrance and were told we could have that table once it had been cleared. There person who seats you also takes your order, brings your order to the table and clears the table. There was another person preparing drinks and we only saw him come out from behind the counter when there were no drink orders. It took a while for her to clear our table. At one point she stood behind the counter with a look on her face that could be best described as '...what do I do first..' What was ordered: Kale Caesar Salad - fresh croutons with generous bits of bacon; very lightly dressed Chicken and Waffles - 2 drumsticks and a breast served with 4 pieces of waffle and a small side salad Shrimp Eggs Benny - 2 deep fried shrimp patties; served with baby potatoes and a side salad The chicken was very crispy and still juicy but based on the colour of the fry the oil needs to be changed. It came with 2 small containers of syrup (not real maple syrup) and some that looked like plum sauce. The potatoes on the eggs Benny were good but when you deep fry the shrimp patty you wonder what other filler there might be in the patties. It is in a busier plaza, smaller location. We did have to wait a bit for a seat I would recommend calling ahead of time for reservations to make it easier. The matcha lattes were really light, the art was so cute! Both eggs benedict were delicious and the food came out pretty quickly once our order was placed. read more

The value is really low for that $5 mocha. I can get better value from other brunch place. The service is also off, asked for ketchup and the waiter forgot. Had to ask again. There were that many tables to serve, so it is kinda unacceptable. Also, they only give you ONE pack of ketchup when asked, come on, I don't want to keep asking, at least give the customer two packs at once. read more

The primary difference was the efficiency and quality of service, Markham is noticeably quicker and more attentive. During our visit to this location on a weekday (when it wasn't particularly busy), service was quite slow. It took a while for our order to be taken, and the food took even longer to arrive. That said, the food itself was still very good, the chicken and waffles remains my go-to dish. Executive Chef guy here. I've had several positive experiences here but the last one this week was a disaster. Worst service, in a nearly empty restaurant. Two orders on a four top were punched in, no table checks which would have caught it, kitchen didn't question four pax with only two orders. Food that did come was only lukewarm, no apologies or comped coffees/plates. Server stood beside the table waiting for cash, then asked if we needed change. Big no no's in the business. Returned to Alchemy - this time for something a bit sweeter! I did not expect such a huge portion for $16 French toast, nor did I expect the bacon. This dish is not only perfect for sharing, but it's also incredibly well-balanced in terms of sweet and savoury (shaved Parmesan and bacon) flavours. I love that this place isn't too crowded or loud, so it keeps that relaxing, neighbourhood ambiance that makes for a wonderful dining experience. It's been awhile since I have been to Alchemy, and it was my first time at this location. I remember the chicken and waffles being really good and so I got the duck and waffles this time. The duck was fried nicely, but the waffles were really disappointing. I'm not sure if it's just the location or if the recipe has changed, but the waffles are now very airy and dry, unlike the soft and fluffy ones that I used to really like. The hojicha latte was also kind of bland. With more and more brunch options popping up I hope Alchemy continues to improve despite their popularity. read more

Came here on a Saturday at around noon for lunch as a party of 2. My friend was running late for approx 15 mins and they didn't hustle me to order food, despite they were 90% at capacity - that was super nice of them! I ordered the housemade sausage benny. The sausage definitely had a spicy kick to it, I would say on a scale of 3, it was medium spice. The eggs were nice and runny which complemented the patty and English muffin well. The food was decent, but I likely wouldn't go out of my way to dine here again; the shrimp patty was over seasoned and overshadowed the other elements of the benny, and the other items we ordered were underwhelming compared to what we had heard about this place. The green salad was my favourite part of the meal. The service for what seems to be a fairly small location was okay; we came just before the lunch rush. The interior is nice for pictures, and the windows let in a lot of natural light. If you're looking for a classic food shot, you can definitely get that here (the flowers on the table are not from the restaurant, though). read more

New location at Leslie and 16th. Better, brighter and cleaner than the original location. Joined the waiting list on a Saturday before noon and the wait was surprisingly short. We only waited max 15 mins vs an hour for the other nearby brunch places. The barista was amazing! All the latte arts were so cute and pretty! Came by for coffee the other day and it was a decent experience. Parking was readily available in the private strip mall lot. There were numerous high end vehicles in the lot. ;) The Richmond Station location seems much cleaner and upscale than the Markham location which is getting long in the tooth... Ordered an iced mocha and it was decent. The espresso was smooth and the mocha wasn't too sweet. Staff was talented and cordial. Congrats Alchemy on opening your 2nd location. I haven't been to their Unionville location for quite a while as it was always too crowded with long lineups and a very small dine in area. This new location is much bigger so on both my visits recently I didn't have to wait for a table. I'm sure after a few months, this place will soon be packed! Not sure if I should really be telling everyone about it! The service was great as the servers were attentive with refilling our water. I enjoyed my latte and Peameal Benny. I really like their new location but I would suggest that they add a bit more space between the 2 person tables. I felt a bit cramped especially since my friend and I had the table in the middle. I've heard that it gets really busy here, so I was a bit worried that we wouldn't be seated right away when we arrived. Thankfully, there were two two-seater tables left (around 10 a.m. on a Saturday). There was a larger table that was empty, but that was being held for a reservation. We were given glasses of water and cutlery and informed that the menu could be found using the QR codes on the table or by looking at the large chalkboard on the wall. The opposite wall had the drink menu. Our food didn't take long to arrive. The egg yolk for my carbonara slid off the top of the pasta as the dish was being brought to the table, so the server took it back to be fixed before bringing it back out. At first glance, the dish doesn't seem like much, but it turned out to be a decent portion. The pasta was cooked well, the sauce was flavourful, and the bacon was crisp and just the right amount of salty. We didn't expect the chicken and waffles to be such a large portion. The three pieces of fried chicken were huge. The waffle was crisp and airy. At a lot of other breakfast restaurants, the waffles are very dense. Since it was so busy, it did take a bit of time to get our bill and then change (since paying with cash gets a 10% discount). read more

It's a really busy resto in the vogell plaza off 16th and leslie. The parking lot is usually packed and the waitlist tends to be full always. I managed to secure a minimal wait time on the waitlist for my gf and I on a sunday afternoon. The decor is brightly lit and modern. It has slightly more tables than the original markham counterpart but just as popular. Duck benny: The duck was tender and juicy. I agree w/ my fellow yelp elite Aaron A. The potatoes were seasoned to perfection, crispy on the outside but soft and melt in your mouth on the inside. My gf and I also appreciated the fact that they didn't overcrowd half the plate w/ salad. The salad itself also had a vinaigrette that made it taste quite nice (which is a rarity for brunch salads). Chicken and waffles: I think the chicken and waffles here are the new standard by which all brunch places should be measured. The chicken has the CRUNCHIEST/CRISPIEST batter. It's seasoned out the wazoo and the chicken was not only JUICY but huge! The drumsticks came from hulk chickens I swear to God. The waffles were mega crispy on the outside and basically a cloud on the inside (felt like air on the inside). The sweet chili sauce had a nice kick but was well-balanced. I would definitely consider this dish a must-order for a first time visitor. For a brunch experience, I think this spot definitely rivals NextDoor on Main St Unionville for top dog honours. I have always been a fan of Alchemy's first location on Hwy 7, so I was super excited to visit the new location. This location is around 16th Ave and Leslie in a plaza that is not too far from Hwy 404. We dropped by in the morning of their soft opening day and really enjoyed the interior design. There was noticeably higher ceilings and more natural light than the other location. There was a broadway-esque "Alchemy" sign that is a great for pics. The menu looked identical to the Hwy 7 location so it was instantly familiar. I think since it was still soft opening, there were a few drink menu items that were unavailable. Sticking with our usual orders we ordered a Peameal Benny, Steak & Eggs, Matcha Latte, and Cappuccino. The peameal benny was fantastic as always with the combo of flavours from the peameal bacon, hollaindaise, and spinach all working great together. It was served with a house salad and potatoes, both of which were light yet flavourful to compliment the dish. Over the years we've seen them make small updates to the salad and potatoes and I think they've now perfected them. The steak and eggs is a sliced steak served over scrambled eggs with a mushroom based cream sauce which is phenomenal. My girlfriend doesn't normally like mushrooms but thinks the flavour is really harmonious. The dish is served with the house salad and sourdough toast. The drinks were also amazing. Their hot matcha latte has been my benchmark for how they should be made for the last few years. Alchemy used Pilot Coffee beans for their espresso and I'm a huge fan. The milk steaming technique is on point and had a nice balance of microfoam and steamed milk. I might add that the steak and the poached eggs for the benny were a smidge overdone, it was nowhere close to a dealbreaker. Overall I think the food, drinks, and ambience are great. A rather busy brunch restaurant with pretty barn decor and amazing food. The restaurant uses yelp waitlist so get on the list and grab a coffee at Mcd, Timmies or even Duo. The menu has a lot of unique items, but they are rather pricey, so this restaurant is more like a treat than a regular affair. French Toast - French toast with thick cut beautifully curled bacon, softened apples, cheese and lime syrup. Wow such a unique flavour! My only complaint was that there wasn't enough lime syrup, that was so good. It worked well with the bacon and the cheese, creating a magical melange of flavours. Duck Benny - Duck benny was also really good! The benny was good and all, but the highlight was the potatoes! Honestly it should be called roasted potatoes with Duck Benny as it stole the show! Potatoes were seasoned with some sort of sorcery and roasted to a nice fluffy crisp. Hojicha Latte - A beverage that is rarely offered at cafes. This was made beautifully made tea latte as tea flavour was still strong and wasn't hiding behind the sweetened frothy milk. Just a warning, as the latte seems more forthy than typical lattes, you will observe holes as the small bubbles amalgamate into larger ones. My party had a little misunderstanding with the front end staff which ended up getting resolved, and got free beverages. We came around 9 am and there were only 2 tables taken - so go early! I got the salmon benny & a latte. Both items came super fast and were quite enjoyable. Hollaindase sauce was a little on the runny side, but was good. Portion size was just right. Not too much not too little. Served with a mix salad & garlic home style potatoes (very crispy and garlicky!!) mmm. Really enjoyed the eggs Benny overall. Service- attentive, quite busy. By the time we left there was a lineup at the door. So go early or register for the Yelp line when you know you want to go. Parking - plenty out front. Overall good food, busy cafe. I've been to Alchemy many times, and this is the first time I've been to the Richmond Hill branch. This location is, in my opinion, more ideal than the markham location. The parking far more spacious and less of a hassle. In regards to food, the food tastes amazing! My go-to is the chicken and waffles. I definitely recommend those wanting to have brunch to try this restaurant out. You can easily tell there is passion that has gone into the dishes, and the quality is superb. While you can taste the espresso in the milk, it was more of a bitter tone to the espresso. A bit of coffee grains in my milk coffee sadly but overall milk was nicely steamed and stretched. Americano was a bit watered. Eggs Benedict ox tongue 4.5/5 - ox tongue soft and tender, nicely seasoned, well balanced - potatoes also well seasoned and smashed. no complaints other than can use more! - eggs well poached - hollandaise was well made but not too flavourful - pairing as a whole was lovely Buttermilk Pancake 3.5/5 - more on the dense side but soft still in texture - nicely balanced in sweetness - berry compote was a good balance of sweet and mildly tart - the cereal/ cornflakes were hard and soggy though so this was a bummer Overall would consider coming back but price is a bit steep! read more
