A cute cafe serving great coffee! Commence Coffee opened recently and I'm so happy it's here! Every time I've visited, there are folks ordering, chilling, and having delicious looking croissants. Love to see a local coffee place thriving! I've only come here for take out and every drink has been a hit. Huge fan of the Honey Cream Latte (iced), Coconut Hojicha (iced), and Spanish Latte (hot). Their croissants are also gigantic! I had the Hojicha Croissant and I had to split it into 2 breakfasts. I saw people sitting around with their laptops, taking meetings, so even though I didn't sit in, it looks like a very comfortable place to do so. I'm looking forward to returning. Maybe for a nice smoked salmon croissant lunch, or for more delicious lattes.

This new spot in Markham at Hwy 48 and 16th Avenue is clean, with a vast drink menu and also offers a brunch items. There are a few high tables with two standard ones. I really enjoyed the iced London meets Kyoto iced drink. Perfect amount of sweetness made of earl grey with earthy matcha and oat milk. The salmon croissant is always a good choice!!! Make sure to come early especially during the weekend.

New coffee shop in Markham! There's a very calming aura when you enter the shop. There's some tables to sit at, with some outlets along the walls. The menu is extensive, with lots of variety from coffee shops, iced tea drinks, and smoothies, and refreshers. They also have a display case with some pastries. My order: London Meets Kyoto ($7.75). Very refreshing! You really taste the mix of earl grey and matcha with a hint of sweetness. Dirty Coconut Jasmine ($6.75). The espresso is strong and there's a floral aftertaste from the jasmine. This was also a good mix of flavours. The staff recommended us the top drinks (anything from the Barista Special menu). Overall, very clean space, free parking, fare prices, nice staff, and a calming/quiet space to get work done if needed.

Such a lovely new addition to the neighborhood! The space is beautifully designed with a cozy and inviting atmosphere, perfect for catching up with friends or just enjoying some quiet time with a good cup of coffee. I tried their Latte and it was smooth, rich, and well-balanced. The staff were super friendly too, which made the experience even better. Definitely a new go-to spot for me. Highly recommend if you're in the area!

Didn't realize this place only opened up 2 weeks ago. I was looking for sun tea. I ended up trying the strawberry matcha which was quite tasty. I'm glad there is a nice coffee shop in my neck of the woods. The barista was friendly and it had a chill vibe.

The worker was friendly, approachable and was able to explain highlight recommended menu items. Ordered the pistachio latte which was pleasant, not so sweet and yummy! Cozy, cute, but limited seating space. Would recommend if you're working alone or with one other person. Not enough space for big groups. But I also did notice they had an outdoor patio seating area as well! So perhaps a great patio day!

They have a sign outside promoting the first 3 customers get dessert/bagel/croissant, but don't honour it. I was first in the store, not because I was trying to get the promo, but the lady behind me came actively trying to get the promo. Instead of the items promised, and only after asking, they reluctantly handed us panda keychains. The lady asked again for the promo after she got her order and they told her that they weren't giving the food items because keychains are more useful. She then asked them to remove the sign for false advertising, they (angrily) said they would, yet the sign continues to be outside half an hour later. You really shouldn't be making promises you can't keep, and getting upset at your customers for it. Please consider removing this false advertising sign and just letting your cafe and food speak for itself. If it wasn't for this, this cafe would be 4 or 5 stars, but the fake promo and dishonesty has really soured my experience here.

Although this is a busy brunch restaurant, the turnover happens fast, and we have never waited more than 30 minutes for a seat. Starving Artist has a wide array of coffees and teas as well as waffles and 'Bennies. We have tried quite a few of the drinks during our visits, and we have tried many of their signature dishes. The staff are great and always accommodating and very patient when my kids can't make up their minds about what they want to eat or drink. You pass through a charming patio to enter, which was shaded nicely thanks to the size of the Shoppers building. Given the recent heatwave, we opted to sit indoors. We were greeted at the door and offered the choice between a two-person table tucked farther inside or a four-person table closer to other diners. We chose the smaller table for a bit more privacy and ease of conversation. Menus were provided right away, followed shortly by tap water. When our server checked in to ask about drinks, we let her know we were fine with just water. Later, when we were ready to order, she came promptly when we called her over. A standout moment: we ordered just one smoothie, and she kindly asked if we were sharing, then offered to split it into two cups without us even asking. A thoughtful and appreciated gesture. The Pineapple Banana Smoothie was a highlight. It was perfectly balanced between sweet and tart, and incredibly refreshing. My sister ordered the Halloumi Benedict. She noted that while the waffles leaned toward a sweeter flavor on their own, the combination of waffle, egg, and halloumi was well-balanced and worked beautifully together. The egg was jammy and spot-on in terms of taste, texture, and presentation. I had the Fully Loaded, which features a potato waffle topped with bacon bits, sour cream, chives, and cheese. It leaned a bit salty, but not overwhelmingly so, still quite enjoyable overall. I loved the potato waffle which has the slightly crispy edges but was soft to bite with a texture that resembled mash potatoes. As someone who isn't usually crazy about waffles, which was such a nice alternative. Each of our mains came with a side salad (lightly dressed and refreshing) and a choice of fruit salad, maple baked beans, or potato salad. We both chose the fruit salad, which was impressively varied with orange, grapefruit, watermelon, blueberry, blackberry, and banana. Note: Payment is cash or debit only.

I first tried it about 8 years ago when they only sold poke bowls. Now they have appetizers (gyoza, karage chicken), specialty drinks and hot dishes such as ramen and beef rice bowls. My favorite has always been the kale noodle salmon poke bowl! I love it so much I asked if I can buy their kale noodle uncooked in bulk. Unfortunately he wouldnt share their supplier name and said they could not sell it to me that way lol. But i did find something similar in the J-town grocery store, just not the same :(. The light sesame dressing , little rice crispies makes the dish. It is served with cherry tomatoes, some sliced cucumbers, pink ginger, edamame beans and corn and of course topped with your favorite sauce. Ive also tried this dish as a rice bowl but prefer the kale noodle as that chew really makes it unique to the Komeya experience. The staff are always so friendly. Highly recommend. My daughter has been sharing her fav spots and we are always looking for new spots to try. Komeya came to mind for me to share with her to try out their ramen, which I have never tried before despite getting take out poke bowls for years. We decided to dine in. Warmly greeted by all of the familiar staff that have put our take out orders together and chatted with over the years. I love the cozy set up inside. They have tables and chairs or the window seating with the bar height stools. We ordered both the Miso Ramen and the Shoyu Ramen, Gyoza dumplings and chicken Karaage. The broth was amazing and full of so much flavor. The pork was so tender and all of the ingredients meshed so well with a great balance of vegetables, meat, broth and the noodles. We have already been back 2x. Komeya also has bento boxes, shrimp tempura and a great variety of hot foods, milk teas and cafe items.

That level of care really comes through in the cup; you can taste the depth and intentionality in every sip. I ordered the vanilla bean iced latte, and it was easily one of the best espresso bases I've had in a while. The shot itself was rich and layered: deep, chocolatey, and nutty striking a really nice balance between bitterness and acidity. It finished with a smooth, almost creamy note that made the whole drink incredibly enjoyable. The only downside is the size-to-price ratio. At around CAD $8.50 for what felt like a 10 oz drink, it's definitely on the pricier side for something that goes down this easily. Still, I'd absolutely come back when I'm in the mood for a more premium coffee experience. (Funny note - the barista and I had a small rant together about how people order "iced cappuccino" and macchiato expecting Starbucks milk sugary drink instead of the "proper" shot with dollop of foam. I understand their pain hahah)

My cousin and I arrived shortly after opening on New Year's Eve. The cafe has a small interior with minimal seating, mostly bench seating along the wall with small round coffee tables. Even though there was only one barista working that morning, she was efficient at taking orders and making drinks despite several orders happening at once. We did not feel like we were waiting very long. I ordered a pour-over with the Finca El Paraiso Peach Colombian beans, which use a thermal shock washed process. That was something I had not heard of before. The tasting notes listed nectarine, tropical fruit, and caramel, and it was recommended since I was looking for something more out of the ordinary. I enjoyed the wilder flavor profile, but it was hard to fully appreciate because the coffee tasted overly diluted. The barista mentioned she used a 15g to 250g bean-to-water ratio, which is higher than how I normally enjoy my pour-overs. My cousin ordered a flat white with whole milk that was very creamy with strong espresso notes. We also ordered a matcha latte for my other cousin, which was apparently too creamy. Overall, the beans themselves were good, but the pour-over leaned watery for my personal preference. The bag of beans used for the pour-over was priced at $32, which is only a bit more than double the cost of the pour-over itself. In hindsight, I felt slightly ripped off and should have just bought the beans instead.
