It was really Hong Kong style cafe that seats were too closed, and one next to another, the isle area also narrowed. I was surprised that they have egg over the rice, so I definitely want that, my husband got the pork and cheese baked with Tomato sauce, only my husband's dish comes with a drink. The drink came fast, but really small. My egg over the rice came next, as traditional egg over the rice, it should have been fried rice, but it just white rice, and then the thin piece of meat with sauce. The thin meat was good to fully cooked, but sort of too little. And no veggies on the side. The pork and cheese baked with Tomato sauce pasta came last, it's regular. In this Kennedy plaza by south of Hwy 7, there are at least 4 HK cafe style places, and we've tried them all except this one. The photos look appealing, especially, their scrambled eggs. Short rib with red wine: This was nicely done. The sauce was nice and rich and the beef was tender. The flavour was tasty. Mango slush - asked for 50% sugar - didn't happen- was too sweet. Manna Kitchen is one of the many restaurants/cafes in Peachtree plaza. It's quite small so while there are a good amount of tables, they can get busy and the place can fill up fast. I wouldn't really recommend it for large groups, especially on the weekends when it is busy. The decor is cute. They have twinkle lights on a section of the ceiling and a wall mural highlighting some of their menu items. Service here isn't the best - I guess because they are so busy. They tend to leave mid-conversation. This happened to us two or three times while we were trying to order. The food is well-priced and the portions are quite large for most of the items. They have several different menus, including one that promoted new menu items at 15% off. Since there is a lot of variety, there is surely something for everyone. I enjoyed my chicken and waffles. You can normally choose between a half portion or full portion for the waffles. However, since we went close to closing time, there was only the option of the full waffle. Their hot plates are on the pricier side, compared to other cafes, but they are big and very filling. We visited on a very busy Saturday morning leading up to the lunch hour. We were lucky to quickly get a table. There was a line of people waiting for tables by the time we left. We ordered a sukiyaki Angus beef udon with a hot spring egg and a breakfast dish that came with eggs, toast, and a bowl of macaroni with slices of ham. The service is very efficient, and it didn't take long for most of our food to arrive. For some reason the bowl of macaroni arrived last to the table. The food was okay. I had the satay beef with creamy chicken soup macaroni. Yes I was pulled into it when I saw "creamy chicken soup", wondering exactly how creamy it is. It's a unique broth (at least for what I'm used to for satay beef noodle soups), but creamy was a bit of a stretch haha. Still good though! My mom had a satay beef and creamy scrambled egg Korean style sandwich. Having never been to Korea before outside in transit, I was curious what this could be, so she gave me a bite. It was delicious! I'm sure I can find better ones in actual Korea, but that was a good introduction of it. Service remains excellent, at least for me. No one is going to be shovelling scalding hot chicken or noodles into their mouths just to keep the crunch factor intact. It still tasted great and the udon noodles were al dente/not overcooked. This appears to be a HK cafe with other Asian influences (Malaysia/ Singapore/ Korean) There are many options to choose from from your hot plate, noodles, baked rice/ noodle, stewed and sandwiches... The food is well prepared and comes out quickly and well portioned. The drink service is a little slow, we were almost finished our meal before the drinks made their appearance. The seating is quite comfortable and allows for some privacy which I feel missing in many of the new cafes popping up. One area that really peeved me was the bill was low 30's and I placed $40 on the bill. The waitress took it and just said thank you. Did they expect a $7+ tip for bare minimal service? They were busy chit chatting loudly by the counter but not really paying attention to the customers besides seating, getting order and getting the bill. A Hong Kong cafe that is super popular and affordable. Came here on the weekend during prime lunch time and there was a line out the door. Got seated with a table of 3 pretty quickly though. Smaller tables definitely get seated a lot quicker than larger parties, as I saw larger parties still waiting for a seat when I was done eating. They have an all day special menu that comes with a drink. I got my usual order at any Hong Kong cafe and opted for their LA1, Manna special baked pork chop in tomato cheese sauce with fried rice. This was a 5/5 for me since it was pretty decent, came out really fast and is at an affordable price at $13.95. My friend got a satay vermicelli noodle soup that comes with egg and toast on the side. This was okay in my opinion, pretty standard for Hong Kong cafe food. You will feel a bit rushed to pay the bill and leave once you finish eating, as they're trying to flip the tables around quickly for the next party. After hearing a few friends rave about Manna Kitchen, I had high expectations, but my experience turned out to be a bit underwhelming. I tried the Baked Bolognese Rice and the Mixed Grill with Black Pepper Sauce and Rice. The Bolognese was overly tangy for my liking. I usually prefer a sweeter, more balanced sauce. The black pepper sauce on the mixed grill was decent, but the pork chop was way too salty, which overshadowed the rest of the dish. Overall, the food was just average. With so many Hong Kong-style cafes around, I'm not sure I'd return to explore more of their menu. The prices are slightly above average, but not unreasonable. The service was fine, and the place was quite busy during my visit, so it seems to have its fair share of fans. On a winter day it could get rather cold as the windows are not insulated well, so keep that in mind if you are offered those seats. Baked Portuguese Chicken Rice - This was tasty! lots of sauce, well cooked potatoes, fried chicken steak, fried rice (with eggs only). The toppings vs sauce vs rice ratio was pretty good. After a sat afternoon badminton session, I along w/ my gf and friends were gonna have a chill dinner at Blue Ocean Cafe in the same plaza (New Kennedy Square). When we parked, we noticed that Blue Ocean was absolutely packed so we walked around the plaza and noticed that this resto had replaced Chef Papa Tea & Noodle Bar. Curious, we decided to try it. The interior has remained unchanged. No decor, lighting or layout changes. The food is completely different though. Chef Papa, the predecessor in this unit was a Deer Garden copycat resto. This new resto is very much an HK cafe serving up some fusion dishes as well. Most of us got rice dishes. One of my friends' gf got chicken yakisoba which was just ok. If you come here for dinner I would HIGHLY recommend ordering a rice dish. Red wine braised beef brisket omurice: The brisket was tender, the potatoes were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, the egg was the perfect runniness and they give you a GOOD amount of sauce. Curry beef brisket omurice: The curry was tasty and flavourful. The brisket was, again, very tender. Potatoes crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Baked portuguese chicken rice: The chicken was tender and the sauce was interesting. My friend said he wished they topped him off w/ some cheese but usually that's extra so it's fine. Hainanese chicken rice: My friends and I thought this chicken rice was just slightly above avg. For some reason, a lot of ppl I know (outside of my friend group) love to use Phoenix Restaurant as a barometer for good hainanese chicken rice. I highly disagree w/ the notion that their chicken rice is good but if I go along and use them as the measuring stick for avg, I would say this chicken rice is above avg. The rice was properly cooked in the chicken oil but it definitely could've used even more aromatics. I know the community is divided on whether or not the chicken should be boneless for this dish. My friends and I happen to rate it higher when the chicken comes boneless. This one came bone-in so it already didnt go into the top-tier off that factor alone. Pork chop in gravy w/ rice: My friend who ordered this said the pork chop was juicy and not overcooked. He also thought the gravy was better than your typical HK cafe gravy sauce. Fried wings: Yea, the batter was a little too thick and there wasn't enough seasoning on them. But they were juicy and the wings were plump and meaty. Like I said above, the yakisoba was ordinary and not something you should try for a first time. Some other caveats I'd like to point out. The portions are MASSIVE. Part of the reason I'm giving 5 stars is the bang for buck value. For $14.50 or $15.50 (current avg price for a rice dish, at the time of this review), you get a giant rice dish and the quality is strong. The egg for the omurice is also cooked just right and not overdone. The seasoning was on point and food comes out fast as well. I've got a big appetite and even I felt satisfied after eating. I was reading Philip L's review and he mentioned that this spot is actually opened by the same owner of Blue Ocean Cafe (right across the plaza) which is a pleasant coincidence. Imo, this spot totally smokes Blue Ocean out of the water. I awarded Blue Ocean a 3 star rating because there is literally nothing special about it from food to value. One thing they did kinda mess up was our drink orders but that's fine (I ordered a milk tea w/ zero sugar and it came w/ sugar even tho the cup said "no sugar" lol, my friend also didn't order a coke but they brought him one). Tried out this new HK cafe which has been rebranded by the same owners of the predecessor restaurant, Chef Papa. Expect a line as lots of people are eager to try this new spot. We got the baked Portuguese chicken rice, red wine beef brisket stew with tornado egg and rice, and the HK style curry fish balls and fish siu mai. Starting with the good, the Portuguese chicken rice was really good with a rich and creamy Portugese sauce. The tornado egg was made well too. In terms of misses, the red wine beef stew is a bit flat and lacks complexity. I think the sauce can be reduced more and the plating of this made it painfully clear that there are just 5 pieces of beef. The curry fish ball and fish siu mai was really bad. the curry sauce is good but there was no distinct flavour in the fish ball and the fish siu mai was all flour and undercooked. you could still see the opaque gritty white flour and it was room temperature at best. Manna Kitchen always caught my attention as I passed by the plaza, so I finally decided to give it a shot. It's a modern take on a Hong Kong-style cafe, mixing things up with some fusion dishes. They've got a pretty extensive menu, and I'm already thinking about a return visit. Just so you know, prices here are a bit higher compared to other places in the same plaza. I've tried both their breakfast and dinner options. If you show up before 11:30 AM, they've got a whole different menu of breakfast options. For breakfast, I went with the A4E - Satay Beef and Egg Creamy Chicken Soup Vermicelli & Toast with Lemon Tea, all for $10.75. If you're feeling fancy, you can pay an extra $2 for creamy scrambled eggs from their All Day menu instead of the fried egg served with the vermicelli. Overall, it was okay, but given the cost, it felt a expensive for something that doesn't break the bank to make. The "creamy" (gimmick) chicken soup was more like regular chicken soup with a slight hint of cream. I was hoping for something creamier. On a separate occasion, I ordered the A31 - the Red Wine-braised short rib with rice, and they included a small hot drink from their All Day Special. The portions were on the small side. They served it in a tiny soup container for the sauce and beef, and a small styrofoam box for a typical serving of rice. They also threw in two broccoli florets. At $14.50 before tax, it felt hard to justify and it is not true to its name because they don't use typical beef short ribs. But in terms of taste, it was yummy and flavorful because of its rich and thick sauce. The boneless beef was tender, though portions were lacking. It was nice that they added some bite sized carrot, pumpkin, and potatoes with the sauce. Lastly, here's a little amusing detail: their big banner advertises mannakitchen.com, but when I tried to check out their website, it was nowhere to be found, and turns out the domain was available for purchase. read more

Mannas kitchen is a brand new spot that recently opened in Old Kennedy Sq. It was fairly packed, and we got lucky as we didn't have to wait long for a seat on a Sunday lunch. However, after we came, there were many groups coming to line up, as well as big parties! They have lunch specials that include a drink (cold is additional cost), as well as snacks, other drinks and more. We opted for their No.1 Satay Premium Beef with Instant Noodles hot pot, and LB 2 combo. Food came in around 10-15 mins after ordering, and we were definitely impressed with the taste of both dishes overall. LB 2 was a chicken soup with satay beef, and you get many pieces of juicy beef. It came with a creamy scrambled egg and toast - pro tip: dip the toast in the soup The Satay Premium Beef was abit different as you mixed in the satay with the soup, but the beef is the type you'd get in hot pots. Make sure to mix the beef right away while the soup is bubbling as it comes rare (like pho). Only thing I wish we could do was change the noodles to something else as instant noodles get soggy pretty quickly. We definitely will come back in the future to try their other dishes.
