TLDR: A bakery near Markville mall that has a huge selection of buns, mochi, cakes and more! The ladies working there are super nice and will explain anything you ask them. Also, if you think you'll go there often, very worth it to sign up for their membership and put money into it to redeem points with their bakery. Below are all the items I have tried so far, what I would rate them, and why: -[Minced Ham & Cheddar Cheese Stick]: 7/10 - wish it had more ham and more cheese but a solid bun overall. Not very filling so could consider making it better by adding more cheese/ham myself or actual sandwich ingredients -[Lava MT (milk tea) Mochi]: 10/10 - very flavorful but super hard to photograph -[Matcha Red Bean Mochi]: 10/10 - red bean paste filling is creamy and tasty. Green tea mochi compliments it very well too -[Ham & Egg Bun]: 10/10 - didn't get a photo of it but the egg is so silky that it looks likr a giant rectangular prism of pudding instead of egg. Adding cheese before toasting would make it even better -[Bonito Flakes & Crab Meat Bun w/Okonomiyaki Sauce]: 10/10 - get at least two of these next time. Only wish it were a little more filling -[Ham & Italian Cheese Bun]: 10/10 - has TONS of ham in it aka worth it -[Smoked Bacon & Swiss Cheese Roll]: 10/10 extremely flavorful -[Chicken Sausage & Cheese Bun]: 9/10 - has a bit of a tangy sauce on it as well. Good flavor combination -[Long Wiener Bun]: 10/10 - tastes like a dressed hot dog -[Ham & Cheese bun]: 10/10 - lots of cheese and ham -[Egg Salad Croissant]: 10/10 - has cheese and fried onions in it as well and a heaping amount of egg salad. I'm not sure if they changed ownership, or the recipes, or the few times I came, they were off days? Really like this Chinese bakery! Have visited many times now and here's the verdict: Prices are slightly higher than many other Chinese bakeries. I somehow spend $30-40 here on buns for my family whereas other places it would be $18-25 So with higher pricing, why do I go? Yummy buns of course! I really like their pork floss bun. It is the best in the GTA I have had for sure. Their mango wrapped in mochi is also super tasty. They have several sizes from regular to big to jumbo mango... While this treat is not hard to make, sometimes you can't easily find or wait for juicy and sweet ripe mango so that's when you buy one of their mango mochi and it's like, wasn't expecting much but WOW yummy! And their birthday cakes!! Can't forget the cakes. They are pretty to look at and very tasty. A solid choice for anyone looking for well made Chinese birthday cakes in the usual flavours like mixed fruit, chestnut, black forest, matcha, etc. Those are the standout items for me. The other buns and pastries are all good and fresh but I find they are about the same as as other bakeries like Lucullus, Patisserie Gateau, Saint Germain which are also good. I find each bakery has some items that they do better than others so highlighting my faves from here. The one item that I find is not as good as others here is the sponge cakes. Panash Bakery is located in Markham just east of Markville Mall. They are a standard Chinese bakery serving the usual fare of familiar classic baked goods. Sadly the egg tarts and Hong Kong style milk tea were sold out. I opted for the curry beef pastry puffs which were flakey, dense and tasty. Also tried the garlic buns. They were slightly sweet tasting with an almost indiscernible hint of coconut. Their products run the gamut of mochi, BBQ pork pastry puffs, pork floss buns, 2 types of coconut buns, pineapple buns, tuna buns, buns baked with a hot dog on top (with cheese sprinkled on top), sweet coconut buns, cream buns, etc. They have Swiss rolls with a good amount of cream-to-cake ratio in flavours like matcha, vanilla, lemon, blueberry, chocolate, mango, and green onion roll. Came by to check this place out seeing as they make fresh mochi and other goodies. If you come after 1pm that is when you have more variety of mochis they prepare for the day. They have some chinese buns and such as well, but I came mainly for the mochis and the egg tarts. If you buy 6x mochis, you can get 1x free for equal or a bit more in value if they nice to you. Chose the creamy custart, purple potato yam, taro, mango mochi (biggie), durian. Basically you pay as each individual pricing for those. They also had the limited edition of the giant mango mochi for $10. The biggie was prob a third of the size for $6. Also got 6x egg tart (flakey) for almost $15. Overall, the mochis that were the best were the mango and durian one. The taro was decent and creamy custard. The purple yam one tasted sour and a bit off. The egg tart was decent as well. Also the pricing for these is a bit steep as it cost around $40+, but its a nice treat once in a while. read more

I came here on a recommendation and was excited to visit. Parking is limited, but there is additional parking in the back of the plaza. The bakery has one table with chairs as you walk in, and plenty of showcases for their pastries. Everything looked very fresh. I bought a few pastries to try out first - matcha sponge cake, two egg tarts (puff pastry & short crust) and a mango mochi. They are very generous with the egg tart custard, and the taste is rich and smooth. The matcha sponge cake had a fair amount of matcha flavor. Other flavors include blueberry chocolate, chocolate, lemon, mango and coffee. I liked the egg tarts so much; I went again and purchased some more pastries to try. I am not a huge fan of Chinese buns, but I tried two of them, just so I could compare and review. The curry beef bun had quite a bit of filling and a mild curry flavor. The tuna fish croissant had bits of onion, and was quite filling, no pun intended! I agree with fellow Yelpers, the prices are higher than other bakeries, but then again, I do not eat Chinese pastries that often, so it is a treat for me. My family and I always get our cakes from here. We've tried the mango mousse, Black Forest, and mixed fruit cake. The prices for the cakes are pretty good, it might be a little more expensive than other places but that's fine. The mango mousse and Black Forest cakes are always delicious! The whipped cream is light and fluffy and they're always decorated really nicely. The mixed fruit cake, however, was not as good. I was a little disappointed as the cake layers were thin and not fluffy at all. They were also a little grainy to eat? The inside of the cake was collapsing a bit because of the amount of fruit inside was a little too heavy for the cake layer thickness. I love the amount of fruit on the inside and outside, but I think the cake itself could've been better. Overall, I would recommend the mango mousse and the black forest, but not the mixed fruit. Trendy Chinese buns and treats. The owner here really takes pride and this place is always neat, well stocked and smells amazing. They had a lot of traffic on a Monday afternoon, probably from the dim sum crowds next door. Must try: Curry Beef Puff- very flaky, medium curry flavour and ground beef, it's done well, gotta try this, very tasty! Matcha Mochi (chewy and filled with a fresh center, not mango fruit was too raw tasting and too much liquid filling on my visit) Eggs tarts(very dense and eggy) Cake rolls (not too sweet) Buns(all very fluffy and inside filling portion is fair to generous) Pass: Croissant- great appearance, smells right, but made differently and tasted like bread. Very nice mango themed items with a very aromatic flavor and great textures. Everything else is also good, though not at the same quality as the mango dishes. The mango bun is the best item here with a delicious combination of fresh mango flavor and delicious cream and flavorful bun. I came here based on reviews by friends. I got there close to closing time so the shelves were a bit sparse. I got the last two mango mochis, some peanut ones, and a ham and cheese savoury bun. The mochis were both very tasty, but I prefer the texture and and slightly sweeter taste of the peanut, even though the mango one had chunks of fresh mango. They're both very good. I have to assume the ham and cheese was good because my friend inhaled it before I had a chance to taste it. I guess I'll have to go back and get my own. read more

One of my favourite bakeries to go to. Panash is known for their fluffy egg tarts! I would suggest preordering ahead of time or call before heading there incase they're sold out of egg tarts. The amount of filling feels like I'm eating a deep dish egg tart. The buns are also light and fluffy at a fair price. I have been to Panash before and some items were good, like the egg tarts and mango filled mochi, but others were not as great. Well on my visit this week every single item I bought was mind blowing good. Chinese buns filled with sweet or savoury- or sometimes both - can be disappointing at cheaper bakeries or ugh - T&T (quality there went downhill since bought by Loblaws but I am getting off track) especially the bread part which can be dry or tough. Panash must have a secret recipe and magical chefs because the buns were so tender, soft and tasty. Coconut cream filled buns were light as a cloud. Hubby usually just eats the filling of his curry buns but he ate the whole thing while raving about the actual bun! They even had a really innovative lemon and cheese bun that was perfect for those of us who like desserts less sweet. The egg tarts are always great and I love the fact that they offer both "crispy" shells which are like puff pastry, and "butter" shells which is a slightly sweet cookie crust which I prefer, especially since it's less messy. At other Chinese bakeries I would have to peer into the display to check which kind of egg tart crust they had - Panash has both! I will be back soon! read more

Panash Bakery is a great option on the East-end of Markham. The store is relatively small but always super clean. There are numerous options ranging from savory buns to their staple egg tarts. Their egg tarts are great; it seems like they continuously bake them throughout the afternoon and I always somehow manage to come when a fresh batch comes out! Their sweet bread with red bean is a fave - so fluffy with lots of filling. A nice, quaint bakery in the Markham neighborhood. This Chinese bakery is conveniently located in the plaza opposite Markville Mall on the north east side of the McCowan/Hwy 7 intersection. They might be overlooked at first since they are sandwiched between bigger units on their left and right. Parking is also not the greatest here... it seriously isn't. Now. Their prices aren't the lowest, but in all honesty, you do get what you pay for. Take their egg tarts for example, instead of the half-filled flimsy ones you get elsewhere, the ones here are actually filled to the rim, and on top of that, they taste PRETTY DARN GOOD. This bakery also has a pretty unique layout. There is an open concept kitchen where customers can see goods being made behind glass windows. As a bonus, the bakery is also very clean. They have some items that you won't find in a lot of places, like their mango custard bun (which might I add is delicious when mangoes are in season). Visited Panash Bakery for the second time this month. They have most of the usually staples but the selection is missing a few of the particular favourites. Or, its just my bad timing. Panash Bakery is located in a particularly busy plaza with very limited parking and one steep entrance from Highway 7. Quick Tip: Avoid the Highway 7 entrance for entering and exiting unless you enjoy having the bottom of your car scrap against asphalt. There is an excellent entrance off of Heritage Road (right behind the plaza) with lots of extra parking. I've tried all the staples including the coconut bun and the custard cream bun but the winner is the Curry Puff Pastries! If you purchase pastries, ensure one of them is a curry puff pastry. Panesh is our go-to bakery for the last little while. The main reason is the quality of their buns, breads, egg tart, pies and cake has always been consistent. This consistency is also linked with their higher price in comparison to other bakeries but it's worthwhile knowing I get the quality I came in for every time. We ordered a unicorn cake recently for my daughter's birthday and we can't get enough. The cake was light, and the mousse was delicious. The fresh cream that covered the cake was amazing, it's light and not too sweet. We had more than one slice as it was so delicious. The only improvement on the cake is better packaging. Decent buns & tarts at premiums prices. Buns and tarts are good, but pricy, not as good as St Germaine's in Markville Mall. The reason of only 2 stars were not up to par service. I ordered tarts over the phone, and told the person at Panash the time that I would pick them up at a certain time. At the precise time I went to pick up the tarts and had to wait in line. The persons in front of me had their tarts, even they did not order ahead of time. When it was my turn, Panash told me all the tarts were gone, and I had to wait for the next batch. They told me that the next batch would be ready in 10 minutes, and I waited 15 minutes. After that I told them to cancel my order, I went to a different bakery for my buns & tarts. Okay gonna have to update this review.... Panash has been my go to Chinese bakery since I came the first time. They really do make the best Chinese baked goods from the egg tarts, mochi balls and buns. I really haven't found a better bakery since I've been here. Price wise its only a bit more then others but the quality is fantastic and there is no tax on 6 buns or more. Just look at all the pics I've posted and you can tell. Also they've really improved the quality of their HK milk tea since the first time and the staff is much nicer then most Chinese bakeries. 5/5. Well deserved! read more

Definitely my favourite Chinese bakery, as well as my family's. Whenever I need to make my way into the East end, I make sure to stop by Panash to pick up some goodies! I've been a consistent customer for almost a year. I've tried an assortment of pastries and here are my thoughts: - Soft buns, even after they have been sitting out for a few hours. The flour seems very fine. - Unique buns - Tuna Croissant! - Egg tarts - "better than Lucullus", said my mom. Flakey crust with a creamy, bouncy egg custard centre. The crust is not too thick. - Would wish their Red Bean Pineapple Bun was filled with full red bean chunks rather than a grounded paste. The staff here are also friendly and kind, but may be associated with my ability to speak Cantonese, which reduces the language barrier. I bought a mango mousse cake ($25) here for father's day. Interior of bakery is nice and modern, not your run of the house, dingy, dated Chinese bakery. Buns and cakes looks really inviting and I wanted to try so much more. Cake itself was not as much of a blown you away product. The mousse had fluffy sponge layers but all very standard. The only stand out part was the dome shaped mango jelly on top. It was a nice change than conventional mango topping but the mango flavour wasn't strong enough and the jelly was quite hard. The white chocolate decorated wrapper also didn't make too much sense since they literally stuck all this product on an inedible plastic piece and you can't savage any of it. Take away, I'd come try their other stuff but not so much this mango mousse cake. read more

Haven't really been to a Chinese bakery for a while except for Lucilus. However I saw a picture of the mango mocchi that made my mouth water. So one weekend I decided to not fill myself up on dimsum and charge over there immediately after. Parking conditions are terrible as expected at around that time and the place was cramped. This isn't exactly a sit down place even if they had a couple of tables. Grabbed a tray and started hunting for the mango mocchi. So to save time for other people, the label they had just had the word mango written in and with the lighting and my colour blindness it was a bit hard to distinguish. I took 6 mango, two peanut and two matcha mocchi. Since it was over 6 pieces and I paid cash it was $1 each for a straight $10. They also put it in a nice box for me rather than a big plastic bag. Each mocchi is individually packed and easy enough to unpack without tearing apart and ruining its roundness. They are pretty large and not like the frozen kind you get at T&T. The mango mocchi was divine. It had ample mango chunks wrapped around a mocchi shell that had a light coconut covering. Enough to give it a bit of light crunchy sounds while eating but not overpowering the flavour of the sweet sweet mango. The other flavour I tried was the matcha. I was actually apprehensive of eating this because my thought was that t was matcha filled. Thankfully I was wrong. The matcha is just outside to give it a slight bitter roasted scent while inside is a creamy cheesey filling that caught me off guard. It blends well with the relatively thick matcha coating around the mocchi giving a roasty cream soft cheese cake feel if you bite into half of it at once. I didn't get to try the peanut mocchi because other people got to it before I did. I am pretty sure it's good too. Though I doubt it would beat the mango. read more

Tried one of their pastry but don't know what it's called as it was given to me by client. I believe the one I had is chestnut Napoleon and I like it. They make it very pretty and the cream is not too sweet. Chestnut flavour isn't too overwhelming. However, I don't think it's freshly made because the Napoleon isn't very crunchy and the butter cream is slightly hard than it should be. That's probably because my client bought them early the morning and they haven't get the fresh one out yet? Drove by this bakery a few times and never really went in. Decided today is the day to venture in. It's a small place but it's really bright, clean & modern! The back of the bakery is an open window concept with all the bakers/pastry chefs all in clean uniforms working away. The left side of the bakery wall is the cake display counter and cashier. They have an assortment of small slice cakes and 6" rounds cakes..etc.. On the opposite side of the cake display is a wall of packed cookies and pastries. Beside it is the bun display cases where you pick your desire. Opposite of the buns is a small display of the smaller savoury and mochi pastries. We bought an assortment of buns & pastries to try. The puff pastry egg tarts were just freshly made, the pastry was really super crispy & flaky. The egg custard filling was so thick and luscious. I find their egg tarts are slightly taller than other places. Thus it gives you a mouthful of filling. A++++ Tried their mochis, peanut & green tea. You really pay for what you get. They surely don't sting out on the filling. The glutinous exterior was so soft, moist, & just the right chewiness. The filling just gushes out as you bite into it. Peanut one had both crushed peanuts & toasted coconut shreds inside. The green tea one was a surprise. I was thinking it was surely red bean...but it turned out to be cream cheese filling. Yummo!! It's very pricey compared to other Chinese bakeries. Their buns are smaller than most and also run around $2 per bun. They try to add a little bit of flair to them though. For example, their pineapple buns, have a small piece of butter in-between and they also sell some croissants and other pastries. They have 2 kinds of egg tarts (cookie crust and flaky crust) and both of them sell for $1.3 each and $7.2 for half a dozen. Was craving mochi, came to purchase mango mochi, maybe it was the day I came but the mochi was way too soft and falling apart. Also got the green tea mochi which I didn't like so much since they dusted the outside with matcha powder and it just tasted bitter, also too much cream cheese inside. I enjoyed the other baked goods like mango sponge cake, pineapple bun, tuna croissant as well as the tiramisu cake was delicious. The egg tarts were great with a lot of filling! Panash... At first glance I would never have thought it was a Chinese bakery. Hmmm... Not sure what the name is supposed to mean. Checked the dictionary and it's an acronym: Palaeoclimates of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. However it doesn't make sense for a bakery? Maybe they're trying to use Panache (like another reviewer referred to) meaning flamboyant? That's what this bakery is trying to portray itself. Flamboyant prices and flamboyant baked goods. Unfortunately the taste doesn't live up to the hype, especially for the price you pay. The shop itself is nicely decorated and clean. On weekends it can be quite crowded as it is very narrow. You can see into the kitchen (cleanliness??) which is nice. The breads are at the front of the shop while there are cakes and egg tarts, etc in the back part. You'll need to go through the crowd first. We were excited to have a bakery next to our fave dim sum place but disappointed in the taste and price of their items. We love pineapple buns 菠蘿包 and heard that they were the "best". We like to compare to Richmond's Lido (soft, crispy topping, fresh-from-the-oven goodness) or second best Richmond Court's which is just good. Panash's is kind of in between but I find it just squashes down too much and the topping is too sweet and crumbly. I guess some people prefer that but it's not worth $1.30. They have green tea milk buns which is like a "Mexican" bun (墨西哥包 ) but instead with green tea. Again, too sweet and though it looks like green tea, there isn't any green tea flavour. The 排包 $3 is thinly cut and doesn't look like it uses eggs. Because of how it's cut, I've never had it cut like that, it dries out quickly. The biggest surprise was the matcha mochi. My husband loves mochi so I thought I'd surprise him with one. He texted me and said he had to throw it out! He said it was filled with cream cheese and was just "disgusting". So, if we want to save on gas by going elsewhere for our buns after having dim sum, then we will return. Otherwise, my suggestions are save some money and head to T&T a block away. read more

I usually come for egg tarts and mochis. Their egg tarts have a crispy, flaky crust and the filling is smooth and flavorful. They are priced at $1.45/per egg tart which is higher than average. Their mochis are very fresh and chewy, I love them! Given their quality, their prices are reasonable. This isn't a bakery for cheap Chinese buns at great value. But this is a solid bakery for good quality baked goods at reasonable prices. read more

Our go tos: their mango mochis (very mango-y and not overly sweet), egg tarts, chicken tarts (crust is very buttery) and bbq pork buns. We like that their bbq pork doesn't have the red food dye in them. Tip: they take debit but have a 25 cent service charge if you spend less than $10. And similar to other Chinese bakeries, no tax if you buy 6 items or more. read more

Pricey but you get what you pay for! We spent almost $27 on an assortment of items. All I can say is...crispy, moist, tasty, and the filling is there. They don't skimp out on the filling. It's a clean establishment with a see-through window of where they bake their products. The employees are courteous and know what they're doing. We'll be back to satisfy our yum craving! read more
