What do you call a mochi that is not chewy enough? A meh-chi. As you can see I'm not exactly stand up comedian material, but that's the biggest gripe about the mochis at Savorlogy. Now if I tried it one time, and the mochi fell flat, you can chalk it up to a bad day. But a second time, and it's still the same issue, especially for a place where their bread and butter is mochi, that's just not cutting it. Other gripes about their product is way too much cream. I remember having the matcha Jasmine tea mochi, and it was definitely Jasmine dominant. I personally don't have an issue with the taste, but I can see how others may find it too floral. Aside from a disappointing mochi, I give them an additional strike for not spelling their name the good old fashion Canadian way! It should be Savourology! read more

2.5 stars I ordered a mochi cake online for pickup at the bakery. Parking can be a bit hectic in this plaza, but don't worry, there's underground parking if surface-level spots are taken. When I walked into the bakery, the young man working there quickly looked up at me and then back down to his task of putting stickers on boxes. Since he wasn't going to greet me or ask if there was anything he could help me with, I let him know that I was there to pick up an order. He finally got up from his seat and said something, but it was almost a whisper. I had the order number ready, but that wasn't what he was looking for. He spoke a bit louder to ask for the phone number associated with the order. I gave him the number, and once he found the right cake, he put it on the counter and that was it. I really enjoyed the mochi cake - the flavours were spot on. I wish they had used actual tapioca pearls instead of jelly boba, though. My wife's all-time favourite mochi place and I can see why. Stopped by this location since it has the icecream offerings and got: - Durian Mochi Ball: Loved this. Cream had a strong durian flavour. The mochi casing was sticky and stretchy like all good mochi should be. - Gelato Daifuku: Got the Hong Kong milktea brownie in an original mochi. The gelato was pretty tasty, though I've had better (to be fair, those were in gelato shops). And of course, the yummy mochi casing again. Really wanted to try their mochi since our favourite mochi place closed at the commerce gate location. We came around mid-day and there was only one other couple in the cafe enjoying their ice cream. We decided to pick up 4 mochi's: Mango, green tea, strawberry cheesecake, and milk tea. The flavours were nice - milk tea and green tea ones were both strong tea flavours, meanwhile the fruit ones were very fruity and refreshing. I wish the mango and strawberry ones had more fruit in it. Instead each mochi was filled with a thick whipped cream and cake. I wasn't a fan of the cake. It was really wet and didn't add much in terms of texture/ flavour. The flavours of the mochi over all matched their names well. The reason I'm giving this an OK, is because the mochi itself was really grainy and floury. The first bite would be fine but once I get in for the second bite, I can feel a grainy, flour feeling in my mouth. The mochi was soft and squishy and sticky, but I felt like maybe it was either undercooked flour or sat too long in their fridge. We ate it the same day we bought it, so we didn't let it sit around. Over all, I wasn't a big fan of the mochi. Between the floury mochi and the cake on the inside, it just wasn't a hit for me. I respect though that they have been here for a few years at this location and people frequently come to enjoy their frozen treats and mochi cakes. It's just not for me. read more

The Markham location is a tiny Japanese-inspired dessert shop located in one of the plazas on Highway 7. The service here was average, however the Montblanc Parfait, and Strawberry Sakura Mochi (limited time item) were delicious. When I went, there was a group of maybe 8 crowding the space with 4 occupying the seats, and 4 standing by the tables, and sort of blocking the counter, which made it a little stuffy. There's plenty of free parking out front, and there is a washroom located on the P1 level of the building. Given the narrow shop space, and lack of automatic doors, this bakery would not be considered wheelchair accessible. read more

I tried out the Mango Grapefruit and the Chestnut Mochi Bubble. Both of them were good. Very similar to other Yelper's POV, the Mango Grapefruit certainly stood out from the others. Tiny bits of grapefruit gave out a great refreshing fruity sensation. Absolutely delightful. Nice color, beautifully made. The real fruit taste would totally justify its price. I hope that this place doesn't fold. It is known for its daifuku (gelato wrapped in mochi). I've dropped by a couple of times for desserts and enjoyed them. I have had the following items: - Iced coconut latte - Matcha gelato daifuku (twice) - Tiramisu mille crepe cake Guess how many items I have dropped because I go through klutzy spurts? Two. More details on those incidents are to come. Staff here are always friendly and helpful when I drop by. I like watching my daifuku being made. I see everything from the mochi being rolled out, to the finished daifuku placed in a small cup. This bakery is cute and cool. You can get gelato, cake, beverages, and more. There are a few tables and chairs to sit down and enjoy your desserts. The downside to have a rather generously sized daifuku in a small cup is that gravity kicks in and the daifuku falls when you try your best to hold the cup. It happened to me while I was in my car. It landed on my lap, so the five-second rule applied. A larger cup would work better for folks like me. The matcha gelato was yummy. It wasn't terribly sweet and the matcha flavour had a decent strength that I enjoy. The mochi was super stretchy and enjoyable to eat. On the other hand, it was all me dropping my tiramisu mille crepe cake in its box in my car. Yes, I'm fortunate that both incidents happened in my car. The packaging was sturdy that my slice of cake was fully intact. It felt onto the passenger floor of my car, so it wasn't horrible. I loved my crepe cake, despite missing some cream on top. The layers were skillfully stacked. It tasted like tiramisu. I liked it because it wasn't heavy. I've also had an iced coconut latte. I loved it. The coconut flavour was delicious. It was perfect masking a lot of the coffee taste. I am not a coffee person. If you're like me, this drink works nicely. It was refreshing and cold on a hot, summery evening. Never thought the combination would work but it does! I got the 4" jelly chestnut tiramisu (吉栗宝宝) which serves 3-4 people. The flavour of the chestnut from his "hair" and also chestnut pieces. Tiramisu flavour in the inside was really good as well. If you want a fun twist on a cake whether for an occasion or just a dessert, I recommend giving jelly cake as Savorology a try. I love their gelato Daifuku that I already came back here twice a week. A relatively small shop in the HSBC Plaza at Warden & 7 that's ran by one person who takes your order and makes it herself so beware that it might take a while to get your order especially when it's busier. One of the days I arrived 2 mins til closing and ordered 5 Daifuku...(I'm sorry for being THAT person but I was literally on a mission to get my relatives to try this place before their flight the next day LOL) The scoop of gelato is very generous (think Demetre's sized ice cream) and they make everything in front of you. The flavours were veryyy rich and creamy. My favorite was definitely the durian and matcha and coming in close was the mango passionfruit. It was refreshing but they had passionfruit seeds in mine which I found really annoying. The other relatives ordered pistachios and toffee milk which I didn't try but they enjoyed it. The mochi itself was very thin and chewy. I tried the osmanthus latte as well which tasted floral and had a very strong coffee flavour. Wasn't a huge fan of it since I'm not a coffee drinker so I might be biased. They have other items on the menu that I might try in the future like their mochi bubble. read more

Tucked away in the Gal's Sushi plaza (behind Gal's Sushi) at Warden and Highway 7. My friend ordered a 6 pc assorted box of mochi bubbles to try for dessert on a saturday evening. Chestnut matcha: I've been eating stronger and stronger matcha over the years so my tolerance/preference for DARK matcha is very high. So while university me would've said this was good, it was too light on the matcha flavour for me (the chestnut flavour also wasn't very pronounced). Mango grapefruit: My goodness. This one was my runaway favourite. If I ever come back I might ONLY order this one. The flavour was super pronounced and deep. The cream was nicely balanced. Strawberry rose: Again, not that strong. The scent was very florally and the cross section was super pretty (great for IG) but the flavour could've been stronger. I do think it places 2nd behind the mango grapefruit though. Coconut latte: The most mid one in my opinion. It literally tasted like a cream puff. The coconut taste was LIGHT as hell. It tasted like something I could've whipped up at home. Bubble tea: The tapiocas in the middle made this one taste a lil too ooey goeey for me simply because the mochi is already kinda chewy and then when you add tapioca into the inside mix, it starts to get a lil weird texturally inside your mouth (maybe it's just me). Flavour was like milk tea flavoured. Taro salted egg yolk: Very unique flavour and in my top 3 after mango and strawberry prolly. I thought it would be weird eating salted yolk in its non-molten liquid form inside a dessert. This lil pocket changed my perception. Salted egg yolk tastes quite nice cold haha. I definitely think I should've swapped out coconut latte or the bubble tea flavour for the oreo chocolate flavour. The chocolate sponge in that one would've undoubtedly had a stronger flavour. At $31.99 for a box of 6, these desserts are definitely not worth it. But every so often if you want to indulge go ahead! I would only come here once in a blue moon. Stopped by this little bakery after a meeting in the same plaza. I was originally drawn in by their cake that resembled half of a durian, but upon asking, was told that cake can only be pre-orderd. Makes sense! I'll have another reason to visit again haha. Instead, I picked up two (baseball-sized) mochis that were in the display. Looks like a box of 2 is $11.99 but I think that price is a tad steep compared to normal mochi. To be fair though, each mochi is far larger than the norm. Each mochi also has a layer of chiffon cake inside as well which makes it more unique too. -[COCONUT LATTE MOCHI BUBBLE] Consists of coconut cream, coffee latte cream, original chiffon, all wrapped up in mochi. My goodness, I could eat 10 more of these haha. This is definitely one that I would order again! I discovered this dessert spot at a Yelp event and have been a regular ever since! Their mochi bubbles are fresh and yummy and not too heavy of a dessert. We also tried their gelato to go and the yuzu mango, matcha, and pistachio flavours are all quite good. Their coffee based drinks are also surprisingly good for a place that really just specializes in mochi. Savorology is a small little shop, located in a very busy plaza. Admittedly, it is quite difficult to find parking in this area due to sheer volume. Again, the shop itself is very small. About half is attributed to their work area and the other half consists of three small, two-person tables for seating, then a narrow hallway that leads to the back mall area. Cleanliness is mid for the seating area. Not sure how often the tables are cleaned in between customers since it is only one person operating the store. I ordered the matcha daifuku and the milk toffee (sweet cream and crunchy sponge toffee) daifuku to try. It's nice to be able to watch them wrap your ice cream in front of you, made to order, through the front glass window. Both were delicious but the milk toffee is quite sweet. The mochi wrap on both were light, stretchy, and chewy! So much fun to eat. At $6.99 each, I felt it was slightly pricey but something I'd pay money to enjoy every once in a while. The service was terrible because when we wanted to eat their 4' jelly chestnut cake at their store, the staff told us it would be easy to cut and share using their plastic forks. We tried to ask them if we could get a knife or if they could cut it for us but they refused, told us to eat the cake at home and said they did not have a knife. Then when the fork broke and we asked if they could cut it for us, we had to ask them 3 times for them to be willing to cut it. They also gave us a dirty look before cutting it. Cute little place with super thin skin for the daifuku. Tried the durian flavour which was very creamy and robust. Caramel latte was yummy and flavourful. Would want to try more gelato flavours next time! read more
