A small Japanese pastry shop located inside J-Town. You'll need to head all the way to the back, past the butcher shop to find this hidden gem! This little cafe sells coffee, lattes, mochi and dorayaki. They also have an online store where you can purchase their goods ahead of time so that you can get the flavours you want! If you purchase a box of 6 mochis, they don't charge tax. I'm not normally a fan of bean paste fillings but I must say, this cafe does it beautifully. They incorporate a variety of flavours with the bean paste filling and they are all delicious. The mochi is really soft and fluffy, some of the best I've had. Their flavours are also on seasonal rotation so check on their website to see what they have for sale. I got the sesame, yuzu, mango, strawberry, and matcha flavours. All of them were so delicious and fresh! You could really taste the distinct flavours of each and they're not overly sweet. Highly recommend!
I love this cute pastry shop, nestled at the far end of the JTown shopping complex. This is my go to when I need something to bring a dinner party or gathering and they are always a hit. So this boutique shop is tucked away in the unit right next to Yuzu No Ki (sharing a space w/ Tora Sushi). My gf and I did not even notice it the first time around when we visited Yuzu No Ki (which is also a 5 star shop btw). I must admit I'm not the biggest mochi fan, but the quality of these mochis were incredible. My gf ordered an assorted box of 6 mochis. Very fresh and I really liked the cream filled mochis more than the regular filling ones. Mango in particular, struck a deep chord w/ me. I love mango anything and the mango mochi did not disappoint. To get the best tasting experience, take your refrigerated mochis out and let them rest until room temperature before consuming. I found that the dough and filling had a better mouth feel upon waiting a bit after taking them out of the fridge.
There is no culture who can make a mochi or daifuku as well as the Japanese. Period. The perfect texture, perfect hint of subtle sweetness and a rice dough that stretches gently when pulled and melts in your mouth. I had the hojicha daifuku and it was sublime! Spouse had the red bean paste mochi. This establishment is solid. Their daifuku are divine.
Visiting J-Town and started my journey thru the front of the bakery and visiting all the rooms towards the fine pastry. At first glance, I was not interested but then decided to try the 4 pack (Mango, black sesame, roasted green tea and strawberry) $12. I brought them home and wow, was my first thought and bite. The black sesame was a delight, smooth and tasty which I wanted more than 1. Next day I went back for more, that was how happy I was. Highly recommend .
Woah, I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place yet :O Literally been buying mochi from here for as long as I can remember because the quality has remained consistently amazing time, and time again! I love that they have a really convenient online ordering system as well so that you can ensure you get the flavors you want even if you can't get to their store as soon as they open - I have often found myself ordering online ahead of time to avoid disappointment especially if I have my eye on their rotating season flavors. This time around, I got their hojicha, and maple (seasonal) flavors! The hojicha, and matcha (not pictured), are the two that I always go back to no matter what because I am all about tea flavors done correctly :D The maple one is one of their sweeter ones so I do often pair it with a black tea when I sit down to eat it - it's still 100% a flavor I would recommend people to try

We decided to get some drinks and try the mochi as well, got the houjicha latte and coffee and the sesame mochi. 1) Houjicha latte The tea had a nice flavour and it was not too sweet and they prepare it fresh as well. 2) Sesame mochi We really enjoyed it even a few hours later after buying it. It was nice and chewy and there was a lot of filling. It tasted really fresh. Service was also good. I would come back and try their other mochi flavour.
I'm a huge mochi fan, so during my visit to J-Town, I definitely couldn't resist picking up various mochi flavors to try. I went for four different flavors, in a box of 6. 1. BLACK SESAME: I love the aesthetic due to the contrasting colors between the layer of paste and the center of cream. Interestingly enough, the skin on this one was chewier compared to the other flavors. The flavor profile of this one was also strongest - definitely the best of the flavors I tried (4.8/5) 2. COFFEE: Overall, this had a softer texture. Like the black sesame, there's a contrast between the paste and the cream for a beautiful cross-section. The coffee notes were strong with minimal sweetness (4.7/5) 3. MANGO: This is another soft texture mochi. It had a mild mango flavor, which I wish was stronger (4.5/5) 4. MATCHA: I love the way they made their matcha cream which was strong in flavor and minimally sweet. However, there was quite a bit of red bean paste in here which was overpowering in my opinion (4.4/5) Though the interaction was short, the service was very friendly (with a smile!) My box of 6 worked out to be just under $18. A little pricey in my opinion but definitely worth a try with how well-made these specialty treats were.

5/5. Wow. The daifuku speaks for itself. Soft, chewy, filled with amazing cream flavour. I tried the mango and sesame, and it blew me away. I don't often say this about desserts, but damn! Light, not too sweet, fresh, soft and the perfect fluffy texture. Service was fast and friendly. Casual environment for grab and go or you can order a coffee and take a seat too! Would highly recommend. Would definitely come back to this hidden gem. read more

This is hands down my favourite dessert place of all time!!! Every time I'm at jtown, I just know that I have to stop by and get a box of 6 and a few doriyakis. Those will easily be devoured the same day. This time around, my partner got me a box of 6 as a surprise with their standard flavours: matcha, hojicha, cream, strawberry, mango, and black sesame. The quality of the mochi is so go good. It is soft and chewy with the perfect light cream inside. I found that these store well outside for about 2 days, and then I put them in the fridge. Then, whenever I want to eat it, I just let it sit at room temperature for about 20 minutes before eating. These also make really good gifts as they're not too sweet desserts. Overall, I highly highly recommend. read more
I am a pretty frequent customer of Sasaki Fine Pastry, and I am amazed by the quality of their products! My go-to purchase every visit is a half dozen variety of mochi's. The mochi's themselves are so soft and delicious, and I recommend you to visit early in the day near opening, as they run out fast. This stall is tucked away near the back end side of J-Town. The only downside of this location is that there doesn't seem to be a big enough sign to attract new customers to the business, which is a shame because this place is really great. read more

Very wonderful and polite stuff that greeted me when I entered. Clean and nicely presented venue. Ordered their mochi which can be sold individually or in packs of 4 or 6 for a slightly cheaper price. Overall the mochi skin was very delicate and not overly sweet, perfect consistency even after being in the fridge for a few hours. The skin was a good thickness as well. Size of the mochi was decent, and the filling inside tasted fresh. Houjicha cream still had azuki inside with a layer of houjicha cream. I did find the red bean slightly overpowering the houjicha flavour but it shines through in a subtle accent of the mochi. Azuki paste had bits of red bean and also the smooth paste. Great contrast and paired well with the houjicha cream. Black Sesame was well loved for me. Rich black sesame flavour and the vanilla cream lightened the overall mochi. Well roasted black sesame taste. Really enjoyed it. read more

Don't get me wrong, Sasaki's mochi are a staple! Their mochi dough is perfect. Chewy & baby-butt smooth, with generous fillings. I tried every flavour & my favourite is SAKURA - had actual pure Sakura paste & whipped cream, which tasted light & floral. Followed by the HOJICHA (amazing roasted flavour), BLACK SESAME, & MATCHA. I found the rest of the flavours overpowered by the very sweet & abundant red bean paste filling. I especially wished the Strawberry and mango had actual fruit inside, instead of fruit flavoured cream. I also tried their MATCHA RED BEAN DORIYAKI - good, but not special. Trying all the flavours satisfied my long-time Sasaki obsession. However, if I were to come back, I'd only get my 4 favourites and nothing else. read more

Fresh, soft, chewy handmade daifuku mochi!! Located in J-town and hidden all the way in the back (go through FAMU market & take a left all the way down the hallway to the end! They also share an area with a sushi place). They have some sporadic hours so make sure you double check their opening hours before heading there I placed an order online so I could secure my mochi goodies because I heard this place sells OUT! It's such a cute little corner & the ladies were all nice & had friendly smiles I'm SO impressed by the freshness and chew of these mochi's!! They were so QQQQQ!!! I couldn't help myself and basically ordered every flavour they had (except for the mango & strawberry) & I have to say I had so many favourites! But if I haaaad to choose just 1, I would say the Hojicha was my fav! It's simple but made me want more & I legit could eat many more without getting tired of the taste. The fillings were all red bean & had variations with or without cream & a flavour paste. Size wise the mochis are pretty decently big! For $2.80 a piece I can't complain. I also went across the plaza to the Japanese market & found them selling pre packaged mochi's for $2.50 (1 piece). I would take these freshly handmade mochi's over those at the supermarket any day Highly recommend checking them out! read more

This shop has great daifuku mochi. Tried Mango, Black sesame, Chestnut & Houjicha. All were good. Headline flavours aside, some daifuku have cream & some have red bean - there's a chart which shows what's inside each. The daifuku have light, flavourful, fresh cream & were well flavoured (not too strong - they were well balanced). The body was soft & chewy. They're pretty good value too. read more

We came a bit later in the day and so they did not have a large variety of mochi left to choose from. I opted for a mango and strawberry. I gave the strawberry to my brother and he liked it. I had the mango mochi and it was not bad, not too sweet, which was what I liked. A bit pricey but understandable as they use fresh ingredients. Worth the try, that is for sure! read more
Cute store in the J-town shopping area. Their mochi was so nice and soft, the filling wasnt too sweet, and the ratio of filling to mochi hit the spot for me. This was a really quick transaction. I was at my cousin's wedding with a few minutes to kill in between the ceremony and reception, so I checked Yelp for nearby goodies. Sasaki Fine Pastry came up and was only a 4-minute drive away, so I stopped by. It's towards the back of a small Japanese mall. Picked up six cream-filled mochi and three mugwort mochi (with red-bean). I ate two of them right away (right before a 10-course Chinese banquet - but no regrets). The cream-filled mochi are rich and flavorful. I ended up eating nearly all of them over the next few days (somehow my wife and kids were not interested). Strawberry, matcha, and black sesame were all amazing. Definitely worth the short detour. The front part of the store is a sushi counter, and there are a few seats where you can enjoy your mochi. There are some cute Japanese decorations on the shelves. read more
The mochi of the daifuku is incredibly soft and the fillings are tasty but not too sweet! My favourite flavours are the mango, hojicha and the coffee daifuku. The sesame latte was also good but more suited for those who want a lighter sesame flavour. For my personal taste, I wished the flavour in the latte was a little bit stronger, but it was still tasty! read more

Love the mochi from here. Great Japanese mochi filed with either white bean or red bean paste and flavoured cream. My fav are the matcha, hojicha and strawberry mochis. They are soft, fresh and super pillowy. If you like mochi you have to try these because they aren't too sweet and aren't over filled with cake. We're hooked and can't go back to the store bought mochi. read more
Surprised I haven't reviewed this place yet! Love their mochis. They are freshly made and so delicious. Our fave flavors are probably mango, strawberry and matcha. Houjicha is also nicely done. They are pillowy soft and not too sweet. Great to share at gatherings too. Can't go wrong with these mochis. They also keep in the fridge pretty well for 2-3 days. You can pre-order in advance through their website now which makes it super convenient. read more
Amazing Mochi!! I brought a friend here for her birthday...we couldn't find a good bakery nearby but I saw this come up on my Yelp feed and we're so glad we stopped by! A little hidden...it's across from the sushi counter and behind the fish market. We ordered these two mochis - the Sakura (cherry blossom) and the sesame. Whoa...we couldn't quite pinpoint what the cherry blossom tasted like but it was refreshing and delightful. The sesame was also wonderful. In fact, she ended up ordering four more to bring home and I bought a couple for my parents to try... Which they also loved!! I'll be back with the man who also loves his mochi. read more

I love mochi s and Sasaki does it best! I got a variety of flavours - green tea being my favourite. I love how concentrated the flavours are. They sell out really fast so I would recommend coming as early as possible or else you won't have as many options to choose from. read more

Yummy! My first time having fresh mochi. I dm'ed them on Instagram asking if there were any peanuts or nuts and they responded quickly. I placed an online order and it went smoothly. I ordered 2 matcha, 2 mango, 1 black sesame, and 1 mango. My favourite was the black sesame. The mochi was not too sweet, which I love. I would suggest ordering online to get the flavors you want because when I got there, a lot of the flavors were sold out! Buy 6 to avoid tax. read more

Sasaki is in the J-Town Shopping Complex, and their Daifuku are little balls of heaven, lol. They are $2.50 each and I got a mango one and a strawberry one. The mango one had white bean paste and mango whipped cream inside. The strawberry one had red bean paste and strawberry whipped cream inside. The mochi outside was so soft and chewy. They are kept slightly chilled. I can take or leave the bean paste, but the whipped cream was so fluffy and airy, and the texture of the whole thing was just so heavenly. If I lived near this place I would literally eat one every single day! read more
Daifuku in this store is just so good that you always want more! It's so soft and doesn't make you feel like you are just eating flour. Really want to know what magic they did there. I also really like their dorayaki especially the red bean match cream dorayaki. It seem like there are only 2 people working; one at the cashier and one at the back making the sweets. They both are friendly and this place gets very busy during weekends, so better come earlier! :D read more

The daifuku are are quite big, marked at $2.50/each. They're so fluffy and have a nice chewy texture. Good amount of filling which made them so big! I tried the strawberry (which was OK), matcha (strong matcha flavour but on the sweeter side) and coffee (great coffee flavour which was creamy and yummy). Definitely coming back to try their other flavours! read more

Best mochi I ever had in my entire life! I tried the mango and black sesame and I like them more than the street food mochi I tried in Japan! Theyre so pillowy soft and very flavourful. Can't wait to try more! read more
