I pre-ordered the "Pandan Paradise Cake" for my mom's retirement and everything about it was amazing! The website is easy to order from, and since my brother picks up the cake, the instructions make pick ups very simple between the two of us. The first thing my family and I noticed was that the pandan was very aromatic, but not overpowering. The cake and mousse cream didn't have an artificial colour to it, and there was a very nice balance of fruity flavours with the mango compote and coconut graham base. The mango compote was different (texture-wise) but delicious nonetheless! My friends ordered me the celebration pig cake to jointly celebrate my bday and also ring in chinese new year. It was so beautiful that I didn't want to cut into it! The chocolate exterior had rivets in it which really perfectly mimicked the crispy skin texture of a roast pig LOL so that was a pretty cool technique. As for the flavour of the cake itself (raspberry chocolate mousse), it was just right! All my friends thought it was good and not too sweet. I liked that there was crackly texture thing goin on in between bites. I think there was nuts in the mousse layers. A welcome addition! I celebrated my bday at the Keg and when we told the staff to put it in the fridge for us they all exclaimed how cute it was and thought it was an actual roast pig LOL. Located at a corner of a very small plaza. I just wish they had one open in Markham. Came here on a weekend to pick up two slices of cakes. I love their cakes, they offer a variety of flavors. Got their mango cheesecake and 3:15 which is one of my favorites. My kids love their mango cake as it's layered with fresh mangoes and jelly. 3:15 is hong kong milk tea and I could certainly taste the hint of milk tea, not too sweet. Most of their slices of cakes are $7.75 each which is a little bit pricey so I don't get them too often just on special occasions. Earlier this month, I wanted to get some macarons for a friend. It was a Saturday morning. I ventured out to a different place and noticed that it only accepted orders by appointment. Bummer. Plan B? Daan Go Cake Lab. This store was roughly a block north from the closed one. This cake lab is in a plaza with one-way traffic. I was pleased that I found a spot fairly close to the main entrance. I backed into this spot and headed inside. I was happy to see so many cute macaron varieties. Yay! It was tough to decide what to get. I went with six macarons. I got two each of the following: - Roasted milk tea (panda) - Black sesame (octopus) - Salted caramel (lion) I got the nicest woman who helped me with my order. She asked if I was a rewards member. I wasn't, but I signed up for it. You give your phone number every time you order anything from here. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and all was done. She placed the macarons in a nice box, and then placed the box in a paper bag with handles. I thanked her and left. My friend loved the macarons. Her favourite was the roasted milk tea. She had visited Paris a few months ago. For her to say that they were excellent was a good sign. I didn't realize that it came with a booklet of all macaron flavours until I ordered a box for my friend and me to share the following week at work. Yes, I visited this store twice in less than five days. I'm in macaron mode. I still am! I got the following flavours (two each) for us: - Roasted milk tea (panda) - White peach (cat) - Salted caramel (tiger) I am the only one in our group of three friends who has not been to Paris. My friend and colleague was there in September. He asked me what he should get when he was in the city before he left. I said macarons and anything in a bakery. He did get macarons and loved them. We ate all our macarons before lunch... haha! We loved all of them. I especially loved the white peach. So good! This place makes excellent macarons. It also has cake. I wouldn't mind getting one. You can also get slices if you don't want to devour an entire cake. A few years ago, on a Monday, my manager sent me an instant message and asked me where he could get a cake for his daughter's birthday that day. I wasn't thrilled that he waited till the day of her birthday to get a cake. It was also a Monday. Many bakeries like taking Monday off. Thankfully, this place was not. I suggested coming here because I've always wanted to get the tiramisu cake. I don't know what he got for his daughter. It's Christmas time. My hubby gave me a great surprise with Daan Go cakes. We like their cakes because they always have new cakes and it always gives us surprised. It's not only a cake, but also delivers joy and fun. We like to guess what's inside and tear it one layer by another. This time Raman is the new one. The 2 pieces of chopsticks, Japanese decor on top are white chocolate, noodles tasted like mousse and some sweet pears at the bottom. The soup bowl is dark chocolate. I've been wanting to try out stuff here ever since I saw Christopher Liu on Masterchef Canada. It's a real gem of a place. There is ice cream on offer and a fine array of cutely crafted desserts. I tried the boba tea: the cup was made of white chocolate and the inside was a soft delicate liquid sponge. The boba was real, and the straw was made of a chocolate twizzle. I also tried the durian cake which was flavored with durian but contained no durian fruit bits. The flavor was strong enough though. The cream was delightful and the sponge moist and elegant. I wonder if making these into cutesy shapes hurts the perception of the craft of the cakes and desserts. It makes it seem that the goods are to be eaten by kids and not serious adults. If the cakery were based in some fancier neighborhood and given a snooty French name, would we perceive it differently and justify the $8 or $9 per item? I think we would. As such I have mixed reactions to this establishment. Also there are a bunch of bakeries nearby in the greater Scarborough neighborhood. I feel as though this place is trying to utilize Western baking techniques and framing them in these cute Asian motifs, whereas I think they'd be better off utilizing Asian baking patterns and working to reach wider ranges of tasters. read more

I ordered the durian cake for my birthday and it was OMG so amazing! If you aren't super into durian, this might not be the cake for you - they were really generous with the durian. I'm impressed by how they shaped it like a durian and layered the durian between the cake (it was a lot of durian - almost 80% of the cake)! Note it does taste (and smell) much stronger if you have it at room temp. For best results, pop it in the fridge and it will taste like you're eating frozen durian ice cream cake. Chef Christopher designs one of the most aesthetic cakes that cater to Asian flavours (or for those who don't like desserts that are overly sweet). This cake completely blew me away. Another day with wonder slice of cake. I had the mango cake today and it's great as always. I wish they did a small change to it. With the macaron being played on top of the cake because of moisture from the cake it melts the bottom macaron top, if it was propped up the macaron wouldn't melt. Ah Daan Go. Always a little disappointing. Never reaches 100% potential. We ordered a 3:15 cake (milk tea flavour) for Valentine's Day and they spelled Valentine's wrong on the chocolate plaque. The cake flavouring was good but beware because of the consistency, the decorative macarons on top should be eaten asap/removed asap otherwise they do get a bit soggy. Couldn't really taste what flavour the macarons were. I do really enjoy the base layer of the cake though. The rest got a little too dense if you have too big of a serving. read more

I really like the wide variety of cakes they offer, I always have a hard time deciding which to order. I've ordered the 3:15 and the Tiramisu and both times they were very popular and well liked. The cakes I've ordered were bursting with flavour without being excessively sweet, which is difficult to pull off. A negative experience I had ordering a Strawberry Fields (5"x3") from Daan Go Richmond Hill. The order was placed on Nov. 11 with a scheduled pickup date on Nov. 20. Upon slicing the cake and tasting it, we found the cake and the strawberries on top look off coloured and did not taste fresh. The cake base was stale and felt like the cake was prepared days in advance. However by Nov. 18 we received a follow up email regarding how was the cake even though it wasn't picked up yet. I took the cake back to Daan Go Cake Lab and the manager told me the cake can be frozen in the store for three days and will defrost before the customer pick up. The cake was awful. I was very disappointed with the experience . Overall very poor cake quality and customer service. read more

It is tradition for me to get a durian cake every year for my birthday so I was super excited to see a durian cake option at Daan Go, and even better it's shaped like a durian! As a durian lover, I absolutely approve of this cake. It is creamy with various textures as there is a cake layer and then a flaky layer at the bottom. Everything tasted wonderful together. I would say that it was a bit smaller than expected given the price point but I understand as durian is pretty expensive. I will definitely get this cake again for sure. In addition to the cake, I also picked up some Hong Kong milk tea and it was delicious as well. The tea flavour was strong just how I like it and tastes really authentic. So I've been seeing those cute cartoon faced macarons popping up on everyone's social media for a few years now and I never got a chance to try them... until this past weekend. My cousin gifted me a box of 9 macarons for my birthday. They were the absolute cutest things ever - I didn't even want to eat them! Seeing them in person, I really could appreciate the artistry Chris Siu put into them! Amazing job. Now for the taste - my top 3 favourite ones in my box set was definitely the 1. Roasted Milk tea (tasted like my chatime order!! so yum!! the accuracy of the taste was amazing) 2. White peach (super refreshing and light) and lastly, 3. I would say this is definitely a cute cake shop. The cakes and macarons look delectable. Seeing this cake on social media I did order it $40 including the tax. I saw Yelper Bernice C. ordered the cake a month ago and receive 3 free macaroons to try. The macaroons were not specific to Durian flavour. So I asked in store. They told me they gave a while ago durian flavoured macaroons??!!!?? And that they did not do that anymore? That did not seem consistent to the Yelp review I read. So I didnt bother press the store operators further. I arrived 15min earlier than my advised time. They still had not prepared the label for the cake and took about 5-10min to do it. Looking at the chocolate label they made a mistake and added as "s" to a name when the order clearly spelled Dominique. I had hoped it was hand crafted. From the description described to be filled to the brim with durian. The cake was mostly mousse. I was pretty disappointed on the overall size. See photo next to hand. Pretty overpriced for that scale size. The mousse cake was made in a mold and frozen to create the shape and dusted with gold. There was no green. Because of the freezing process in the mold to shape the cake, the mousse inherited a flan-like texture rather than the fresh mousse texture. For taste, yes it tastes like durian but because durian is shipped from frozen somehow in the handling it had a bit of bite to the taste, similar to eating the eye of pineapple. It would have been nice for the from frozen durian texture to be enhanced to be more similar to fresh durian; just add some filler of gelatin to make the durian texture simulate to the fresh fruit. Value 1 (expensive for size) Taste 3 (finishing was like eating a pineapple eye) Texture 2 (after freezing the mousse, texture was flan-like) Overall, pretty simple cake. Could be better. From frozen cake like a La Rocca. Pretty much paid $40 for a tiny jello-molded cake. read more

SNACK I am really late to the party for this place but better late than never! Got the macaroons that everyone was raving about and damn they are good! Went yesterday for the first time and thought it was just gonna be a one and done after I posted a pic of the cuteness. Welp yelp, I was wrong. We Came back today to get another box lol. Environment: okay, so in that plaza, there was a cafe store that was packed and then there's a cake lab section behind it. There were arrows that escorted us. It was very small but that was because it was mainly a bakery. Staff: they were overall nice. Food: They were well known for macaroons but I personally don't like macaroons because they're sweet so I passed on that. It was also very pretty. I got "diamond" which was the dark chocolate hazelnut cake for $6.50. There were multiple layers and the the flavor was nice- not too sweet. I also got the 3:15 cake because it said milk tea and found that to be interesting. I could really taste the milk tea. However, there was one section of the cake that was extra sweet (it was the hard part..maybe the base of the cake). If they could lighten up the sugar, that would be great. This slice was also $6.50. I would go back and try some more desserts and it's also close to where I live. The cafe food looks good too, perhaps I will try it in the future when I visit again. read more

I was treated to the durian icecream and durian cake recently and they were both excellent. The durian cake was super cute with all it's spikes that replicated the fruit so perfectly. I could smell the durian wafting through the air even through the box! Amazing cake with a lot of fresh durian inside, but also had great texture from the crunchy base. The icecream was also a hit. Very rich in durian flavor but light enough that you didn't feel like it was a heavy dessert. Would definitely recommend for all those durian lovers out there! read more

A box of 6 macarons for $20CAD. The macarons were creative flavors and they all tasted great. Kept in the hotel fridge during our visit and pulled them out about 15 to 20 minutes before eating them.
