Soft serve flavor of the month: lychee raspberry and Tahitian vanilla. It was such a great combination. And the lychee flavor really comes through well!
Popped in here later at night with a bit of a sweet tooth and saw the good ratings here as well as the close distance to where we were. Popped in, while they were out of nearly everything (can't base a rating on that, unless its a constancy) we did choose to grab some soft serve and a slice of cake to share. The soft serve, to me did not delight as the suggestion of the sorbet and vanilla soft serve swirl did not quite taste right (to me). The Cake slice was Raspberry and Pistachio, and not sure if this piece was old but it was very very dry and crumbly when I was expecting something more moist and spongy.
I love their soft serve ice cream, it's perfect in the summer. I tried the blueberry panna cotta soft serve and it was delicious! Sweet and tart at the same time. They have a different flavour every month so i definitely have to go back next month to try. The only thing was because it's soft serve it tends to melt very fast! Service was super fast, we even went on a weekend. The interior is very bright and clean with a butter baker store next to the cafe selling cute little trinkets and things!

The monthly soft serve is a must order but their seasonal waffles with vanilla gelato is great. For fall, we tried the caramel apple butter waffle which was divine. This brunch cafe with dine in seating is tucked away in the back of their storefront. The service is always great!
There wasn't a line when I went so it was quite quick to get in and out. The staff were friendly, and the display cases were clean. I was incredibly disappointed by how small the portion was, and I guess it really does depend on who's serving it, I bought one last month and it was quite a bit bigger. This month's flavour was mango pineapple, very much over hyped and I cannot express the level of disappointment with this soft serve. It was quite sweet, and very soft, melted right away. I've had cakes from this place before, and they've been very good.
Really great soft serve, changes flavours each month. This was our first time and we got the Mango Lassi flavour. Really great as it had less sugar and low lactose as well. Recommend people to try
I went here 2 years ago to try their breakfast! It was fairly new at the time, I got a salmon croissant sandwich I don't think it's available anymore. Taste wise, it was just okay the cream cheese was too overpowering with the sandwich. You get seated in the very back of a room. The ambiance is a bit awkward, since the dining area Is not that big and it just felt like it was would be hard to get servers attention since you're hidden in the room. I like the concept of seeing the whole cafe while eating. They're very well known for their pastries, cakes, and soft serve ice cream. We got a passion fruit, it was just okay as well, it was too sour. I highly recommend their matcha cake though one of the best. They also reposted my photo and credited someone else, I asked them to fix it but they never responded.
Amazing soft serve- mango. Dairy free for all the lactose intolerant besties. Tastes just like real mangos, so tasty and not too sweet.

Well-balanced flavors and not overly sweet. Soft Serve: A good soft serve. The earl grey flavor tasted a bit low quality, but overall still enjoyable.
Found this place randomly while searching "desserts near me". What drew me in was the picture of the soft serve, which maybe it's an US thing but I thought it was soft serve ice cream. To my surprise, and kind of disappointment, it was sorbet. The flavor of the week, or month, was pina colada. It was beautifully served with a near perfect swirl and it tasted okay; nothing special. If I were to come back I would definitely try the cookies and cake.
I am in love with the cakes here! So delicate. Not overly sweet. Perfect for my palette. I noticed a lot of people coming to try the soft serve. So might give it a try when it is warmer out.
The best brunch ever! the Cafe part was connected to a cute little shop. everything was delicious from the matcha latte to the brunch food to the pina colada soft serve. Service was great, very friendly and quick! they answered all of our questions and you can order straight from your phone via the online menu. The food came out freshly made and piping hot. I love my potatoes crispy and these were perfectly crisp. bacon was also delicious and crispy. the waffles were soft and airy. matcha latte was large and yummy and just the right amount of sweetness. and the pina colada ice cream was amazing! the portion sizes were huge and you get your money's worth. highly recommend!

Toronto Review 5/Many: The two of us stopped in here after going to the nearby location of Mogouyan. As it was already pretty late in the evening and we were both pretty full, neither of us was in the mood for coffee and just wanted a small snack. There weren't that many options left, of course, as it was late, so, along with a 3.95 CAD Heartwood Farm & Cidery organic sour cherry drink, I ordered a Banana Caramel Cookie, and the friendly cashier there added a second one for free. Aside from being a very kind gesture, I presume the place was closing soon. The cookie was maybe 2.50 CAD, if I recall correctly, and it was good. I was slightly worried that it would be too sweet, but the caramel flavor wasn't super strong, and there was a good mixture of that and a light banana flavor. It was also surprisingly not too dry for how late it was. Overall, it was tasty, and the drink was also good. read more

My cousin saw this place on Yelp and, given some food allergies, wanted to come here for dessert since they do soft serve which is typically a safe option for her. I hadn't realized until I was writing this review that I had been here! I don't know if last time they didn't do ice cream or it just wasn't on my radar since we came more in the winter but it was nice to try sometime different this time around. I also think it didn't ping my memory as a lot of the baked goods were sold out by the end of the day when we arrived. Either way, we were here for the ice cream! I went with the mango and vanilla twist in a cup which was nice. The mango was a bit tart which paired with the vanilla nicely. The menu said it was topped with fresh mango and I only got one piece right on top so I found that a bit disappointing as the mango was delicious with the ice cream. I would have gladly paid extra for a bit more. The ice cream in general wasn't overly rich, and seemed to have a bit more of a water content than I was expecting (vs. more creamy) but it still tasted quite good. It just melted VERY quickly in the heat. Staff was REALLY sweet though. And though it was a Saturday night shortly before close (and they were quite busy) they were very efficient and kind. read more

This is my second time coming to Butter Baker and their soft serves are always so tasty! Their Blueberry Cassis X Vanilla soft serve was the right balance of tart and sweet! They also change the flavours every month! The quantity was worth the price and the staff were friendly as well! The ambiance was really nice, as they now have a mini market shop where you can buy unique items as well as, a sit down area for dine-in. read more

Strawberry soft serve. No sliced strawberry today. I absolutely loved their Orange creamsicle during the summer but it was Strawberry in the machine now. I wished that had a smaller cones bc it's massively huge after a heavy lunch. I could only eat 1/2. The homemade waffle cone is delicious. It's such a treat. It's perfect and not too sweet. If you see citrus get it bc it's nice and tangy. read more
We were in Toronto so stopped fr coffee and dessert at this place . It is really good , very clean , the seating area is nicely spread out . We ordered cappuccino. Matcha drink , cookies and waffle. I loved the fresh cone waffles. Taste and smells good and fresh. read more
I love coming to butter baker each month to try their new ice cream flavours. They are able to get such a rich flavour in the ice cream and it's always perfectly paired the best waffle cone I've ever had. The servers are so friendly and the shop is cute and welcoming. Spent a good time here with a signature brunch and delicious dessert at Butter Baker. This place is a perfect weekend spot for people who love handcrafted good as you can just take a stroll at the market next door to explore gifts from local designers. I love their special handcrafted ice cream! They got new flavours for every month. I tried strawberry & blue vanilla and it was truly delicious! read more

Although the space is small and can get confusing as to which entrance you are supposed to come in from, it's cute and aesthetic overall. The staff are very friendly and quick with their service. I usually go for their ice creams. It's a fun way to try new flavours too since they rotate their flavours every month. I have liked all their flavours so far, some may be a little too sweet afterwards, some can taste a bit sour, but for the most part, they are pretty good. It definitely is sharable since they give a very generous amount. My favourite so far is their pog yogurt - passionfruit orange guava. read more
Great creamy ice cream, with the best texture I've had in Toronto! Tried the milk tea flavour of the month swirled with vanilla (~$7). The drizzled caramel went really well with the ice cream, although I couldn't taste the milk tea that much. Was very cold and had great texture as it was freshly prepared. Would have liked a stronger milk tea flavour as a tea lover! Next time might just get the flavoured ice cream without the swirl as the vanilla might have overpowered. Would also prefer there's a set menu for flavours to choose from anytime, as some flavours don't interest me The place is also takeout only, a small eating area would be good. read more

The best cake I've had in my life. We came to Butter Baker twice and ordered the same exact cake slices because they were just so darn good. Fluffy, light, flavorful but not too sweet - I just can't say enough good things about their cakes. The Baker's Latte was just a normal latte, nothing to rave about. This place is always SO BUSY (and for good reason). Definitely come earlier because the shop is almost always packed. Wish we got the chance to try their instagrammable icecream, but that'll be for another day. The cafe in the back is also a really nice experience, if you have extra time it's definitely worth dining in. Staff is really nice and professional too. read more

I went in May and was fortunate enough to try their lemon meringue soft serve sundae!! Soooo good! They have rotating flavours! Sundae format is available in the cafe otherwise the soft serve is available to takeaway in cup/cone. Go! Enjoy! read more
Butter Baker's seasonal ice cream encourages me to go there every month, especially in the summer time I tried their strawberry x vanilla ice cream last month which is their seasonal flavor and it tasted so good and fresh! They make it with fresh strawberries and strawberry purée sorbet. They also serve it in a waffle cone, which is a perfect pairing and crispy. It's not cheap, but you get to enjoy the quality. The service is amazing, and there is no need to wait. In addition to the food, they also have their own branded goodies for retail. It's a great place where you can enjoy your meal and after that take a walk in the store. Please note that ice cream is only for take out only. read more

One of my dessert spots in the city especially when they open the Waffle Restaurant. Before that, I was a fan of their seasonal fruit soft ice cream. The ice cream has a great flavour, especially when Mango, Guava, and Blueberry are available. This year they have stepped up and introduced newer flavours like the P.O.G., Grapefruit with Yogurt. A must-try ice cream when you're visiting the downtown core. The Waffle Restaurant, which opened two years is a great extension of their brand. They hit it off with some crunchy exterior light waffles. The menu is small, with a good variation of sweet and sometimes savoury waffles. When dining in, you also gotta try floats, which they change up every season. It is a great place to catch up with friends over waffles, and service is quick with a contactless ordering system. read more
Nice dessert place in downtown Toronto with good pastries and cakes. Originally, we came here and wanted to try their ice cream simply because of the great photos people posted. But they said it's a seasonal item and no longer available. Are you kidding me? People really don't want ice cream in winter? Anyway, we didn't want to search out other places and walk around in the cold at night. We just settled here and ordered a couple of desserts and a latte. We got some surprises! The waffle was surprisingly crispy. Unlike Belgian waffles, this one simply crumbles in your mouth at the moment you bite into it. Paired up so well with the chocolate sauce, and kids were so delighted with the torched giant marshmallow. Matchamisu and Oreomisu were both quite good in terms of flavor and smooth texture. Little dessert place on Dundas with good stuff here. Recommended. read more

On weekends, we brunch. Actually, you can brunch anyday at Butter Baker, and they launched a brand new brunch item last month. The new chicken namban waffle is a MUST TRY, it's juicy, tender and outright delicious. Fried chicken topped with Japanese egg salad on a bed of waffles . You get a combination of sweet and savory flavours and different textures. I also tried the salmon benedict which is a classic. And the matcha peach cold foam drink??? PERFECTION! Their dessert selection is endless and it was so hard not to get all of them, but we settled for the earl grey waffles, caramel macchiato sundae, and raspberry pistachio cake. Earl grey waffles is a meal in itself so definitely share this one between 2-4 people! The cake had pistachio cream and raspberry jam layers between super soft and fluffy cake. The caramel macchiato sundae is a must if you like coffee! You probably know them for their monthly ice cream flavours, but if you haven't tried their brunch yet, now is the perfect time! I hear their rotating ice cream flavours are returning, so you can have the best of both worlds Service here is wonderful and the staff have a lot of input into the menu items, which is always nice to hear. I came here with my friend to grab desserts. The store is small and there are no sit down tables or chairs. Luckily, Butter Baker is located near Eaton Center, where we later tracked over to the food court to consume what we got. We each both got a slice of cake as a treat. Each slice after tax came to $7.60. The slices were small. I am personally not a cake person. My friend got the raspberry pistachio and I got the blueberry lemon. The cakes itself are fluffy and you can tell they are freshly made on the day. The fondant on top was not too sweet and best part was not too thick. The presentation was nice. Simplicity at its best. My blueberry lemon cake flavor was very subtle. The lemon flavor was not too overpowering and I was still able to taste the blueberry. Just the way I liked it. I would definitely go again. Only complain was that we were hoping to share the two cake slices and was hoping that the staff could cut it for us but unfortunately, they don't have a knife at the store. Also they don't have forks. We were given two tiny ice cream sample spoons. read more
Butter Baker came up again and again as I was googling best desserts in Toronto. I now see why. We were overwhelmed by choices! What was supposed to be just a quick soft serve stop turned into us getting multiple slices of cake, a handful of cookies.... And still the soft serve, too! Everything was absolutely delicious. I ordered the confetti cake & lemon blueberry cake slices, both made with chiffon, and literally melt in your mouth goodness. My husband got the very best banana caramel (??) cookie that I was so jealous of. The blueberry cassis swirl cone was our son's dream come true, and MASSIVE, so we all reaped the rewards! I'm so sad we only visited on the very last day of our trip because I easily would have gone back again. Well worth the stop! read more

It's hard not to feel disappointed and ripped off when you're digging into your ice cream and suddenly get a mouthful of air. It's not like it isn't possible to make an ice cream swirl without leaving a hollow core. If you're going to consistently leave air in the middle of the ice cream, then at least be consistent with the presentation (which it isn't). Be fair to your customers and show some pride in your work. read more
