Popped in here later at night with a bit of a sweet tooth and saw the good ratings here as well as the close distance to where we were. Popped in, while they were out of nearly everything (can't base a rating on that, unless its a constancy) we did choose to grab some soft serve and a slice of cake to share. The soft serve, to me did not delight as the suggestion of the sorbet and vanilla soft serve swirl did not quite taste right (to me). The Cake slice was Raspberry and Pistachio, and not sure if this piece was old but it was very very dry and crumbly when I was expecting something more moist and spongy.
Soft serve flavor of the month: lychee raspberry and Tahitian vanilla. It was such a great combination. And the lychee flavor really comes through well!
I love their soft serve ice cream, it's perfect in the summer. I tried the blueberry panna cotta soft serve and it was delicious! Sweet and tart at the same time. They have a different flavour every month so i definitely have to go back next month to try. The only thing was because it's soft serve it tends to melt very fast! Service was super fast, we even went on a weekend. The interior is very bright and clean with a butter baker store next to the cafe selling cute little trinkets and things!
This is one of my favourite brunch spots in the city! Their chicken & waffles is my go to order & we love that we can end our meal off with a sweet treat. The monthly soft serve is a must order but their seasonal waffles with vanilla gelato is great. For fall, we tried the caramel apple butter waffle which was divine. This brunch cafe with dine in seating is tucked away in the back of their storefront. The service is always great!
There wasn't a line when I went so it was quite quick to get in and out. The staff were friendly, and the display cases were clean. I was incredibly disappointed by how small the portion was, and I guess it really does depend on who's serving it, I bought one last month and it was quite a bit bigger. This month's flavour was mango pineapple, very much over hyped and I cannot express the level of disappointment with this soft serve. It was quite sweet, and very soft, melted right away. I've had cakes from this place before, and they've been very good.
Really great soft serve, changes flavours each month. This was our first time and we got the Mango Lassi flavour. Really great as it had less sugar and low lactose as well. Recommend people to try
I went here 2 years ago to try their breakfast! It was fairly new at the time, I got a salmon croissant sandwich I don't think it's available anymore. Taste wise, it was just okay the cream cheese was too overpowering with the sandwich. You get seated in the very back of a room. The ambiance is a bit awkward, since the dining area Is not that big and it just felt like it was would be hard to get servers attention since you're hidden in the room. I like the concept of seeing the whole cafe while eating. They're very well known for their pastries, cakes, and soft serve ice cream. We got a passion fruit, it was just okay as well, it was too sour. I highly recommend their matcha cake though one of the best. They also reposted my photo and credited someone else, I asked them to fix it but they never responded.
Amazing soft serve- mango. Dairy free for all the lactose intolerant besties. Tastes just like real mangos, so tasty and not too sweet.
A cute cafe. Although, seating is a bit cramped and the curtains kind of kill the vibe. Desserts are pretty good though. Matchamisu Cake: A light and fluffy matcha-based tiramisu. Well-balanced flavors and not overly sweet. Soft Serve: A good soft serve. The earl grey flavor tasted a bit low quality, but overall still enjoyable.
Found this place randomly while searching "desserts near me". What drew me in was the picture of the soft serve, which maybe it's an US thing but I thought it was soft serve ice cream. To my surprise, and kind of disappointment, it was sorbet. The flavor of the week, or month, was pina colada. It was beautifully served with a near perfect swirl and it tasted okay; nothing special. If I were to come back I would definitely try the cookies and cake.
I am in love with the cakes here! So delicate. Not overly sweet. Perfect for my palette. I noticed a lot of people coming to try the soft serve. So might give it a try when it is warmer out.
The best brunch ever! the Cafe part was connected to a cute little shop. everything was delicious from the matcha latte to the brunch food to the pina colada soft serve. Service was great, very friendly and quick! they answered all of our questions and you can order straight from your phone via the online menu. The food came out freshly made and piping hot. I love my potatoes crispy and these were perfectly crisp. bacon was also delicious and crispy. the waffles were soft and airy. matcha latte was large and yummy and just the right amount of sweetness. and the pina colada ice cream was amazing! the portion sizes were huge and you get your money's worth. highly recommend!
Butter Baker Came for a cozy afternoon brunch with the girls and, of course, we over-ordered- everything looked too good to resist. Everyone's been to this place, butttt the strawberry matcha? Absolutely superb. And honestly, every time I come here, the brunch just slaps. So yeah, I'm sorry for posting this basic content... but consider this your official reminder to try Butter Baker if you haven't yet. And if you have? Well, this is your sign to go again And I'm still on the hunt for the best matcha latte so hmu in the dms if you know any good spots We got the: Báhn mì croissant Salmon eggs benny Chocolate strawberry waffles Strawberry matcha latte

It's hard not to feel disappointed and ripped off when you're digging into your ice cream and suddenly get a mouthful of air. It's not like it isn't possible to make an ice cream swirl without leaving a hollow core. If you're going to consistently leave air in the middle of the ice cream, then at least be consistent with the presentation (which it isn't). Be fair to your customers and show some pride in your work. read more
More or a 4.5 star review but rounding down just cause there was a few glitches. We came here the last day of May to try their strawberry soft serve but when we got there, the line was out of the door and moving slowly. Then they also put a sign saying it would be a 30 Minute wait for any soft serve purchase since their machine was being slow. So we ended up leaving. We came the next day and there was no line! Their new soft serve flavor was mango! We got one with their waffle cone. The pastry case looks really good as well so we ended up getting the walnut almond croissant and the pistachio raspberry cake. The soft serve was kinda disappointing as it was just standard, nothing really special. Their waffle cone though was really good! The pastries though was probably the best we had in a really long time. The croissant was still crispy even though it wasn't super fresh and the flavor was on point! The cake was super moist and light. I would come here for more pastries for sure. Price was also very reasonable as well. I would definitely be back here read more
Butter Baker is conveniently located on Bay & Dundas, at the heart of Downtown core by Eaton Centre. The shop is a bit tiny and more of a grab & go bakery. I tried out their seasonal soft serve which happened to be the popular Mango flavour this month! Mango Vanilla Soft Serve: You can definitely tell it's made with real mango. It was a bit sour but still tasted good. The vanilla was a good compliment with the mango. I recommend coming on a weekday since the line up wasn't that long and the service was quite quick. The pastries looked amazing and I definitely have to try one next time I come back! read more
Finally got to try the famous strawberry x vanilla soft serve that everyone bas been posting on IG. Hands down one of the best ice creams I've ever had and I can't believe I've waited this long to try it. The soft serve was light yet creamy and super refreshing on a hot summer day. Very excited to try the other flavours! read more
We were drawn to this place by how amazing it smelled outside and we knew that we had to try it. We came here after dinner and still found room for two treats. We were really impressed with their selection of both pastries, cookies, chocolate bars, beautiful cakes and even soft serve and sorbet. We ended up getting the danish with a Matcha cream and strawberries. Very delicate flavors, the strawberries are perfectly ripe and the pastry it was very flaky. We also tried a caramel banana cookie. You couldn't really taste the banana but the flavour was really lovely and the cookie was crispy and crunchy on the edges and then chewy in the center. I'll be coming back here for sure read more
Cakes... do you like yours light and fluffy, rich and creamy, or moist to the point of wet? I recently visited Butter Baker on Dundas Str W, and tried some of their cakes (available in slices and as a whole as well). I tried: 1. Raspberry & Pistachio 2. Earl Grey 3. Matchamisu Out of the 3, Raspberry & Pistachio was the most rich and creamy, sweet but not too sweet. Interesting flavour. Earl Grey was the sweetest, a bit too much for me as I found it took away the actual taste of the Earl Grey. Matchmisu was perfect for me. It's not bitter - with just a touch of sweetness. Also I like how it's light which is ideal after a full meal. What's your favourite cake? read more

Butter Baker's Flavour of the Month: Salted Caramel twisted with their Tahitian Vanilla Always a delicious experience trying their monthly ice cream flavour and walking into Butter Baker always smells so good! Check out this bakery where you can also dine in and shop around for cute little gifts and trinkets. read more
Love this spot! Love this as a takeaway cafe and bakery with cookies, cake slices, croissants and soft serve! Bytter baker latte with the Tonka flavoring is really good! I went to check out the cafe in the back today. On average each plate is about 21.50 and Lattes and drinks about 7.50. They had a really refreshing peach matcha! Various plates include smoked salmon, avocado variations on the breakfast plates and also a variety of sweet waffles (I.e. fruit, banana nut, etc) Food is ordered and paid via a QR code scan and served quickly. Overall super tasty and you can also order the baked goods to the table to enjoy. read more
I've been looking forward to trying this place since I LOVE ice cream and I really wanted to like this place but it fell below my expectations. Tip: Avoid coming on the weekends if possible, the lines are long! I was able to go on a weekday with no lineup in the evening. We ordered an ice cream twist with passion fruit sorbet and vanilla and 2 slices of cake. It all came together for, what I recall, about $40 including tax. The ice cream looks like an absolute beauty. I thought I'll definitely love it. But personally, I found the passion fruit sorbet too tart and intense of a taste that overwhelms the ice cream part. It does look like quality ingredients, you can see the black bits of vanilla used, but it's a shame that the passion fruit just overpowers it and I don't taste any of it. I usually like tart frozen yoghurt, and this was too much for me. They do rotate the flavour of the month, so hopefully, I'll enjoy the next one more. Our waffle cone had a hole, our ice cream leaked through so we had to rush and finish, leaving my hands sticky. My feedback would be to have staff properly inspect the cones before using them. The cakes are okay though smaller for the price. The pastries look impressive though, too bad there was hardly any left to choose from when I was there. read more

Visited Butter Baker after dinner, and the smell of baked goods was so strong we could smell it outside the closed door! Their pastries are really aesthetic and delicious, but we opted to get the soft serve for this visit. The fresh fruit flavour changes every month, but I really loved the mango sorbet. It tasted like a mango slush that you would get at a bubble tea store. The vanilla soft serve is creamy, but there are definitely cheaper options at other stores. The store is a bit small, and could only take four people at a time. The staff were very friendly and helpful with the questions we had about the ice cream! Verdict: Can't wait to come back next month and try the next fresh fruit flavour! read more
I visited this place recently to try their new Ontario Strawberry and Vanilla Twist soft serve ice cream. The Strawberry flavour was very refreshing and is a must try (only available until June 30th)! The vanilla flavor wasn't anything special in my opinion. The place itself is quite cute, divided into 2 sides, a quaint retail shop on one side, and a cafe on the other. Note that soft serve ice cream is for takeout only. The service here was also good. The staff were friendly and the lines moved at a good pace. read more

A nice spot in the yonge dundas area, that is very relaxed and kind of head and near the Eaton Centre. In my opinion, it's a great spot to get a variety of drinks, a dessert, and other delicious items such as a variety of waffles. If you were in the seating area, did you have a policy of a minimum of $10 spend per person but it is not heavily enforced. They also have an interesting ordering system, where you scan a QR code which allows you to make an order and pay directly on your phone and informs the staff of which table to bring items to The atmosphere is quiet, relaxing, and then I have very nice to choir, which makes for a nice spot for a catch-up with your friend read more
Ive been DYING to come to butter baker. They kept popping up on my IG and i went because all their desserts looked so beautiful. I love when a restaurant/bakery has items that are just as aesthetic as advertised. The cakes were gorgeous and the ice cream has EVERY PERFECT SWIRL. The matcha raspberry danish was 10/10, I thought the danish was flakey and airy, while the matcha was not too heavy or too sweet. And of course this combo is a classic. Their cakes were overall 4/5 for me. I thought the cakes were kind of dry? But each cake had cream that was amazing. My favorite was the blueberry lemon. Its hard to have blueberry shine as its own flavor, but Butter Baker did a great job and the lemon only accented and complemented with a slight tartness. I also didnt think the raspberry and pistachio combo worked out :/ The soft serve was also 10/10. I was really bummed about missing the fruity summer flavors and Im weary of chocolate soft serve tbh. But their chocolate/coffee caramel combo was so good!! The flavors worked well together and it wasn't HEAVY, I was really surprised! The toasted marshmallow was also a nice touch read more

One of my favourite ice creams when I'm around the Yonge/Dundas area! With rotating monthly flavors and a perfect swirl, this is a great way to end your night or treat yourself any time of day. We ordered our cones at the cash register and picked them up at the window outside. Since this was a to-go order we had to eat just standing on the sidewalk as there is no seating. There is a seated section at the back of the store, but I have yet to dine-in. What I got: - Lemon + Vanilla Swirl Final Thoughts: I love a citrus flavor that wasn't too tart as it was balanced out by the sweet vanilla. The ice cream was smooth and looks beautiful too! I'll have to come back to try another flavor and other offerings. read more
Went here to check out thier seasonal ice cream. They rotate the flavour monthly making you want to come and try the new flavour. I was there in July which meant I got to try thier Mango Vanilla swirl soft serve. It was delicious with a really nice touch of little pieces of fresh Mango on top. The wait is long be prepared and unfortunately they were having issues with the machine over heating causing the wait to be even longer. Inside is a cute small bakery atmosphere with a boutique with some great gift ideas l. read more
First time at the downtown location and it's the only location that sells brunch. Which I need to come back for. It was the ice cream we were after. And it was so good! It was not busy on a Friday afternoon at noon. It's a very cute space that have used for both cafe and store selling assorted home things. They also sell some speciality syrups. read more
Walking into this petit patisserie, I swooned from the aromas of butter, sugar, and baking pastries. We got the tiramisu ice cream and a slice of earl grey cake. Both were incredibly delicious. The earl grey butter cream icing has a rich milk tea flavour. The cake layers are moist and lightly raspberry tasting. The tiramisu is kind of deconstructed and all of the parts are delicious alone or spooned together. It's worth a stop if you want a treat and happen to be around city hall, the hospitals, or AGO. They only allow 2 customers at a time as of today so it might be worth ogling the menu online before walking in or calling in for a pickup if you don't have a lot of time. read more

Got the - Soft Serve (Guava + Vanilla) for around $8 Pros: - Soft serve is tasty and not too sweet - Cakes are delicious too - Can order most bakery goods online Cons: - Soft serve machine breaks often - Long lines during summer read more
A bit on the pricier side but they do not mess around with the quality. I was craving ice cream suddenly so I decided to come here after work and lined up for quite a bit because the store was small and so they allowed a certain number of people to be inside while there was a line outside. I got their mango x vanilla soft serve and when I took a few steps outside after ordering it, the ice cream started to melt so fast. I did enjoy the strong mango flavour and could tell they they used real mango/mango puree. Note to self is to ask for more napkins if I do buy it again next time haha. Their cookies are also good, the cake slices are yummy but also a bit pricy (as I mentioned hehe). read more
I've gotten this twice in week because it's that good. Each month in the summer (I'm not sure if it's year round), they come out with a new fruity soft serve sorbet and this month it's their blueberry cassis flavour and it's quite possible the best dessert I've ever had. It's sooo smooth, amazing flavour, stunning to look at and it's the best thing to have on a hot summer day. The first time I had it, I got it as a swirl with their vanilla soft serve and the vanilla was good but I'd recommended getting the sorbet, which is what I got the second round. read more

Dropped by craving some dessert and spotted the Raspberry and Vanilla Swirl. It's a small shop with the ice cream only being available as a to-go item. This ended up being one of the better ice creams I've had in a while. It wasn't dense and was certainly "not too sweet." The taste of the raspberry came through just enough, although it was probably in part because of the vanilla keeping it from being overwhelming. Overall, this was a great quick dessert and I recommend checking this place out. read more
So happy that Butter Baker opened a location close to me! Butter Baker offers delicious pastries, breads, and cakes, along with other cute items like preserves and haircare. I've only ever gotten their cakes and soft serve, but I can tell they take care in making everything they sell. I love love love their cakes - it's not too sweet yet still flavourful enough to leave a great impression. Their soft serve is also Instagram-worthy and delicious!! read more

Holy... this ice cream... is amazing. I wish I had more of an appetite to eat more desserts - but if you didn't, I would get whatever swirl they provide. We got the mango vanilla - and that was amazing! read more
On a pleasant summer day, we preferred walking after a meal and skipping dessert at the restaurant we were at so that we can go for a small dessert. The kids went inside for their choice and knew what I could have. They picked for themselves a Tiramisu, a Mango Cheesecake, a Strawberry Cheesecake and a Cherry Sorbet in a cup for me. I normally hate anything to do with Cherry Flavour - candies, coke, medicine etc. Was truly disappointed at first as this was the only vegan thing at a store called Butter Baker. I truly expected zero things for me. I had one spoon of the sorbet and it was as if somebody had puréed fresh sweet cherries and given to me. Frozen and exactly the amount of sugar sweetness in fresh cherries. It felt as if there was nothing added or removed from fresh cherries. The family loved each and every dessert they bought, that's all I can say. Each and every one of them. read more
Great soft serve ice cream. This place is very popular and there was a line out onto the sidewalk. No indoor or outdoor seating. The line moves quickly enough. I was there late in the evening and pickings were slim. Vanilla or vanilla/mango swirl in a cup. They were out of waffle cones. Can$6.50 for cup of soft serve. read more
Must try during the summer! Their fruit sorbet flavors are so refreshing and so good paired with the house made waffle cone! Location is a bit small with no room for dine in, but it's super close to the Eaton Centre so it's nice to walk around while eating a treat! They also have a large variety of baked goods which are super tasty and a good option in the colder months of the year read more

Every summer they have different flavour soft serve, each month being a different flavour. You can choose the flavour of the month, vanilla, or a mix of both. All of their flavours are amazing and I love trying out all of their different flavours. Their pastries and jams are also really good. Definitely recommend checking out this place if you are in the area! read more

This place is for people who don't know better. The sales person built a tip 20% for herself into my total, which was NEW. But then the machine asked to put another tip on top of that (!) Is this normal now?? Anyway, for nearly $11 takeout (a bag of vanilla cookies $4.99, and one croissant $2.98), I was hopeful that this place would live up to its Butter Baker name since actual butter cookies and croissants are so rare and hard to get right. Unfortunately, these were instantly forgettable--no sense of buttery-ness in either of these STAPLE butter baked goods. The croissant had ok flakiness, but no flavour. The cookies were all dry crumble, almost no flavour of butter either. These people need to either curate better suppliers or be better bakers that actually use the full compliment of butter in the recipes, with a name like that. read more

A small, yet seemingly very popular little store. After seeing such cute pictures of the ice cream twist, I knew I had to try it for myself. I went and got the pink guava twist and it was absolutely gorgeous, but to be completely honest, it was a little underwhelming. Their ice cream machine also seemed to be having some trouble after me so be warned! Also tried the pear tart which wasn't bad but again was lacking just lil bit. The cake and cookies looked incredible though so might give those a try next time! read more

Had the smoked salmon croissant (pretty good), fresh berry waffles (compote a little too sweet for my liking), oat milk latte. It was a solid breakfast/brunch spot. Delicious cookies. Tried the matcha White chocolate, almond chocolate, triple chocolate chip cookies. Really chewy texture which was very appreciated. Will need to go earlier in the day next time to have more options as they tend to sell out. read more

Picked up two cakes recently for a family event: Matchamisu and The Earl Grey. The Earl Grey was already made and the other options at the time didn't peak my interest. I called early to have them put it aside for me. I was considering just one cake but it worked out that they could make the Matchamisu and have it ready for me when I picked it up within 4 hours. I left with two cakes. These 8" cakes were $49.50 each. Quite steep, in my opinion. On the phone I asked if they could write on the cake and they mentioned it's usually requested 24 hours in advance. Not sure why...? Overall, the flavours in both cakes were evident but not strong enough to fulfil its purpose. Perfect texture and designed nicely. read more
