Popped in here later at night with a bit of a sweet tooth and saw the good ratings here as well as the close distance to where we were. Popped in, while they were out of nearly everything (can't base a rating on that, unless its a constancy) we did choose to grab some soft serve and a slice of cake to share. The soft serve, to me did not delight as the suggestion of the sorbet and vanilla soft serve swirl did not quite taste right (to me). The Cake slice was Raspberry and Pistachio, and not sure if this piece was old but it was very very dry and crumbly when I was expecting something more moist and spongy.
Soft serve flavor of the month: lychee raspberry and Tahitian vanilla. It was such a great combination. And the lychee flavor really comes through well!
I love their soft serve ice cream, it's perfect in the summer. I tried the blueberry panna cotta soft serve and it was delicious! Sweet and tart at the same time. They have a different flavour every month so i definitely have to go back next month to try. The only thing was because it's soft serve it tends to melt very fast! Service was super fast, we even went on a weekend. The interior is very bright and clean with a butter baker store next to the cafe selling cute little trinkets and things!
This is one of my favourite brunch spots in the city! Their chicken & waffles is my go to order & we love that we can end our meal off with a sweet treat. The monthly soft serve is a must order but their seasonal waffles with vanilla gelato is great. For fall, we tried the caramel apple butter waffle which was divine. This brunch cafe with dine in seating is tucked away in the back of their storefront. The service is always great!
There wasn't a line when I went so it was quite quick to get in and out. The staff were friendly, and the display cases were clean. I was incredibly disappointed by how small the portion was, and I guess it really does depend on who's serving it, I bought one last month and it was quite a bit bigger. This month's flavour was mango pineapple, very much over hyped and I cannot express the level of disappointment with this soft serve. It was quite sweet, and very soft, melted right away. I've had cakes from this place before, and they've been very good.
Really great soft serve, changes flavours each month. This was our first time and we got the Mango Lassi flavour. Really great as it had less sugar and low lactose as well. Recommend people to try
I went here 2 years ago to try their breakfast! It was fairly new at the time, I got a salmon croissant sandwich I don't think it's available anymore. Taste wise, it was just okay the cream cheese was too overpowering with the sandwich. You get seated in the very back of a room. The ambiance is a bit awkward, since the dining area Is not that big and it just felt like it was would be hard to get servers attention since you're hidden in the room. I like the concept of seeing the whole cafe while eating. They're very well known for their pastries, cakes, and soft serve ice cream. We got a passion fruit, it was just okay as well, it was too sour. I highly recommend their matcha cake though one of the best. They also reposted my photo and credited someone else, I asked them to fix it but they never responded.
Amazing soft serve- mango. Dairy free for all the lactose intolerant besties. Tastes just like real mangos, so tasty and not too sweet.
A cute cafe. Although, seating is a bit cramped and the curtains kind of kill the vibe. Desserts are pretty good though. Matchamisu Cake: A light and fluffy matcha-based tiramisu. Well-balanced flavors and not overly sweet. Soft Serve: A good soft serve. The earl grey flavor tasted a bit low quality, but overall still enjoyable.
Found this place randomly while searching "desserts near me". What drew me in was the picture of the soft serve, which maybe it's an US thing but I thought it was soft serve ice cream. To my surprise, and kind of disappointment, it was sorbet. The flavor of the week, or month, was pina colada. It was beautifully served with a near perfect swirl and it tasted okay; nothing special. If I were to come back I would definitely try the cookies and cake.
I am in love with the cakes here! So delicate. Not overly sweet. Perfect for my palette. I noticed a lot of people coming to try the soft serve. So might give it a try when it is warmer out.
The best brunch ever! the Cafe part was connected to a cute little shop. everything was delicious from the matcha latte to the brunch food to the pina colada soft serve. Service was great, very friendly and quick! they answered all of our questions and you can order straight from your phone via the online menu. The food came out freshly made and piping hot. I love my potatoes crispy and these were perfectly crisp. bacon was also delicious and crispy. the waffles were soft and airy. matcha latte was large and yummy and just the right amount of sweetness. and the pina colada ice cream was amazing! the portion sizes were huge and you get your money's worth. highly recommend!
Butter Baker Came for a cozy afternoon brunch with the girls and, of course, we over-ordered- everything looked too good to resist. Everyone's been to this place, butttt the strawberry matcha? Absolutely superb. And honestly, every time I come here, the brunch just slaps. So yeah, I'm sorry for posting this basic content... but consider this your official reminder to try Butter Baker if you haven't yet. And if you have? Well, this is your sign to go again And I'm still on the hunt for the best matcha latte so hmu in the dms if you know any good spots We got the: Báhn mì croissant Salmon eggs benny Chocolate strawberry waffles Strawberry matcha latte

Came by this place yesterday with a friend because I was craving some good cake and this was one of the few places that had what I was looking for. They have a nice selection of cakes and pastries, but we chose to try a slice of the Raspberry & Pistachio and the Dalgona Coffee cakes. Raspberry & Pistachio: I really liked this one. It's not overly sweet but sweet enough. I just wish it was a little more spongy bc it seemed like there was more cream than actual cake. But it was still quite delicious! Dalgona Coffee: This one was very tasty as well. It does have a stronger taste of coffee and it is less sweet so if you don't like coffee then that may be something to consider before getting this slice. Personally, I liked the contrast of flavour compared to the raspberry & pistachio so I enjoyed it! The only thing is I wish they had seating inside. We had to find somewhere else to sit to eat the cakes. So overall would give this place a 4/5. read more

The scent when you walk in is intoxicating. Delicious pastries line the counter, and a new ice cream is offered each month. I had the blueberry swirl cone during the summer (haven't had the time to write this review until now) and it was sublime. Our server told us that the blueberry half of the swirl is made with 100% blueberries only, and it was a refreshing combination with the vanilla swirl. A croissant the other day was delicious. Service was quick and friendly. Why the four stars instead of five? Simply because the prices are pretty steep and I try to factor the worth-it-ness into these ratings. Delicious food is even better when assessible, and this is certainly a once in a while treat. read more
I came here for the coffee ice cream which looked promising and even came with a cute little toasted marshmallow. Not sure if it was because it was almost closing time at the store but the ice cream was terrible. It had a very liquidy but grainy consistency and just became a soup very quickly. The flavour itself was also not the greatest as it just tasted like instant coffee or coffee candy and was very artificial. I hope it was just something wrong with the machine that day and that they have better rotating flavours and textures, but I was quite disappointed. read more
Tried the ice cream...the highlight was the freshly made waffle cone! Very picture worthy and good balance between the creamy vanilla and the sour passionfruit. There was a bit of a wait to get into the store but service was quick once we were inside. Lots of assortment in terms of cake slices and cookies, even close to closing time. read more

Finally got to try Butter Baker after passing it so many times. I got a slice of Matchamisu cake and loved the layers and texture of the cake. It wasn't too sweet which is perfect for matcha desserts. Although on the higher end for cakes (same price for a slice of cake vs. other pastry shops where you can get an individual tart cake), it was worth the treat. Butter Baker also features so many other desserts, and even savoury items like pies and salmon croissants which I DEFINITELY will return to try! I also like how they have cookies which is a great pick me up. :) read more
It's March and Butter Baker keeps things interesting with new seasonal flavors every month! For March, their feature is PASSION FRUIT! I ordered their seasonal swirl which I think was a good call 'cause the passion fruit soft serve was tart and quite sour. The Tahiti vanilla helped to balance out the flavors. Also, props for the details, like how cute is there little cookie? Service was okay this time around. They so happened to have their internet down, so if was a cash only situation. read more

Can you tell I am huge Butter Baker fan??????????? Always impressed with their different flavor of the month soft service. Pictured are the mango swirl, strawberry swirl, pineapple swirl and mocha. The flavors are always super fresh, and the texture is so smooth, a mix of soft serve and sorbet. Serves on a butter/cookie cone, it is the perfect crispy and light texture to accompany the ice cream. Only complaint is the ice cream isnt chilled super cold and so it melts so fast! Not pictured, but their baked goods are also a huge hit! read more

It's ok. In all honesty I've only had the apricot/vanilla soft serve swirl and that's what this review is based on. The sorbet part was good, but the vanilla ice cream wasn't creamy at all. If you gave me a blind taste test for that ice cream vs McDonald's, I would say McDonald's is better. The price was a little steep too for $6 something. I ended up eating most of the apricot part but tossing the vanilla part. It's a very cute dessert though. read more
I got the cookies and they were pretty good. I think they have really good flavor. They were definitely on the sweeter side. I think because we went when they were about to close, the cookies weren't as fresh. They were are the harder side, but still really good. read more

I needed a birthday cake for my daughter delivered in downtown Toronto. Covid is such a pain. I was going to order from a known bakery but did a google search and found a butter Baker. They have gorgeous cakes. Their website is very easy to navigate and the delivery fee is a reasonable $5. The cake was delivered perfectly, the delivery person very nice. The cake is a little on the sweet side for my taste but it's a cake . I'll try the blueberry cake next time. read more
Tried their famous mango vanilla sorbet and it was really tasty and refreshing! I actually enjoyed the vanilla part more than the mango which is surprising. The pastries and cakes looked delicious and I will definitely return to try them. read more
They say that butter makes everything better. And with a name like "Butter Baker" my expectations were high! I walked in just before closing time and asked for two slices - the two best they had. There were so many delights to choose from, but I was told that the dalgona coffee and the raspberry pistachio were two of the most delicious. The layers of cake in both were moist and spongy, the icing was creamy and succulent, but that's where the cakes diverged. The dalgona was rich with a deep coffee flavor - sweet and bitter - what a lovely combination. As much as I enjoyed the dalgona coffee cake, I think the raspberry pistachio cake was my favorite. It was sweet with two distinct flavors, and reminded me somewhat of a Swedish princess cake. The fresh raspberry on top was.... well, the cherry on top! I made the right decision, though, buying both cakes - they complemented each other in a way that enhanced both. Butter does make everything better, and Butter Baker knows how to make the best cakes! read more

Those Danish and Tarts! I am just so glad I don't have to make a decision and choose what to get as a snack. I would be getting more than one for sure! I love butter and flaky crust so I would be even happy eating one of those buttery tarts plain. Pear Tart ($4.95) could be a little sweeter and at the price I did expect a little more. Maybe I would go for one of those tarts with an Asian twist next time. Nice and bright store. More a take out place as there are only 2 tables in the front for standing only. read more
Honestly, I can write a ballad song on how amazing Butter Baker is. Everything I have had here is a taste journey out of this world from the fig danishes, to the matcha white chocolate cookies, to every slice of cake they make, and to every ice cream flavour they rotate. Considering that fresh products are used and items are made in-house, the cost point is spot-on! My favourites are their ice creams and of course, the strawberry danish! The only thing I wish this place had was more seating room to enjoy the treats! read more
Still loving the baked goodies from this place. Everything is beautifully prepared and flavourful without being too sweet. Recently ordered their raspberry pistachio cake. It was delicious! It reminded a few of us of pistachio ice cream. read more

Thinking of the name alone of Butter Baker, makes me salivate just a little while sitting here. Butter is essential in baking and if they use a lot of butter in their croissants then we are good to go! After coming back from the land of pastries and boulangeries (Paris, France), I have been mad cravinggggggg for pastries. My friend suggested we check out butter baker and I'm glad we went ! The tiny little store is like any other Toronto pastry shop: brightly lit with their pastries nicely displayed on a white counter behind glass display. Surprisingly at 10pm there were still a few croissants , danishes and cookies left. We decided to go for dessert cake ! I could see why this place was famous for their croissants. They're nicely decorated with a gollop of meringue (I think) and cutely decorated. Their danishes and pastries look super flaky and decadent. The cakes looked great but the slices are quite small for its price of $7.99 . We tried the blueberry cake (lemon chiffon cake with fresh blueberry buttercream and white chocolate frosting) and it was pretty unique! Good but the cake could have been softer. Maybe it was the end of the day and the cake was not as fresh? The white chocolate frosting was quite decadent and delicious and I enjoyed the blueberry buttercream. The other cakes looked good including the notable lemon meringue! Cake was 3 stars. Prices are a tad higher than usual (one croissant was $3-4??). I think I'd like to come here earlier in the day for fresh pastries. read more

I got to try their seasonal flavor: Blueberry swirl with Vanila soft serve! It is the best mix for me, creamy and refreshing. Not to sweet, perfect for every occasion, if you're in downtown area (stop by Butter Baker) Can't wait to try their next seasonal flavor The cone/cup is the same price! So get the fresh daily made cone! read more

Got a slice of their chocolate cake & some kind of plain, ball pastry. We got it served in a paper dish and plastic fork which I felt decreased the quality of the experience. Since we asked for dine-in, i think they should have offered real plates and cutlery to reduce waste. The cake was yummy and had a strong dark chocolate taste. The ball pastry really surprised me. It wasnt in the main display with the other pastries but placed in a small round dish + dome on top. I was expecting it to be a dry croissant like ball but it was soooo moist and sweet. I think it was soaked in some kind of sticky syrup. Anyways, both desserts were delicious and beautifully crafted. Would come back to try other cakes as well as reccomend. read more

Opened just over 3 months, Butter Baker is certainly the new rising star of delicious French pastries! This bright, little bake shop is located in the heart of downtown Toronto near Dundas and Bay (just below Trapped! Escape Room). They bake sweet and savoury pastries daily, and they also offer coffee, tea, lattes and smoothies at the shop. The croissants are absolutely heavenly, you have to come try them if you haven't already! I would recommend their Triple Chocolate Croissant and their Pork Belly and Cheddar Croissant - both very tasty :D And til this day, I am still reminiscing over that delicious Gingerbread Man Croissant I had this Christmas - it was SO EFFING GOOD - but it was a holiday special edition item D: #iwantmore! It was light and flaky, made with cream cheese creme, gingerbread crumble, toasted marshmallow and topped with a cute gingerbread man on top! Doesn't this make you drool? It sure made me drool all over again lol The creativity at Butter Baker is endless! I can't wait to try your new scrumptious products; keep up the great work :) read more

Last weekend we picked up slices of blueberry lemon dream, strawberry shortcake and dalgona coffee cake, and a pint of strawberry x vanilla swirl. This weekend we got slices of ruby red and passion fruit milk chocolate, and a pint of pineapple and tahini vanilla swirl. Out of all the items we recently ordered we were trying the ruby red, dalgona coffee cake, and the pineapple ice cream for the first time. The dalgona coffee cake was unbelievable! It was moist and flavourful and I can honestly say it was the best coffee cake I've ever had. This is now my favourite butter baker cake - blueberry lemon dream is a close second. The ruby red cake was fresh, light and fluffy, and the icing was really good and wasn't too sweet. However, the pieces of grapefruit in the middle layer of icing oxidized, making them extremely bitter. I wouldn't order this cake again. The pineapple sorbet is a little bit sweet, a little bit sour. The overall flavour is very mild. I cant speak of how it would be on its own but because it's somewhat sour and doesn't have any dairy, it goes well with the tahini vanilla. The fresh pieces of pineapple are a nice touch as well. Be sure to ask for them on the side if you are getting a pint to go. I'd also like to note that last months flavour of the month, strawberry, which was served with dehydrated strawberry pieces, was incredible. After trying it again for the first time in what feels like a year, I have to say it's one of their top five flavours. Still five stars. Always five stars. Ice cream, cake or pastries - head over to Butter Baker and give it a try! read more
Delicious, light and fluffy cakes! They have many different flavours but our favourite is the matcha one and the raspberry and pistachio. I ordered the full size matcha for a birthday and got it delivered for only $5 extra. It's one of our go-go's for cake now. read more
I was looking to pick up a few treats for my Dad as he had a surgery recently and could use some feel good snacks. Butter Baker was a long time fav of mine but I wasn't sure how my Dad would like them as he likes his desserts as plain as they come, lol. The staff at Butter Baker were really awesome for recommending a few options when I explained I'm looking for a simple dessert for a picky father. I ended up leaving with a few slices of their signature Birthday Cake and some seasonal fruit tarts, and they were 10/10. My father really loved the cake's taste, and said it was one of the most moist cakes he's ever had. Thanks to Butter Baker for making my Dad's day! read more

On a friday night they had a line out the door but didn't take too long. Tried their strawberry twist sorbet and it was really refreshing, definitely nice for summer. They give you a lot so I feel like the price is worth it as well. They change their flavours monthly so keep an eye on their socials. read more
Being a fan of the of the butter avenue I was looking forward to visiting this spot. I am glad to report this location is a welcome addition to this rapidly growing area for desserts. The first visit there were slim pickings as apparently they don't have much of an inventory at this location. I picked up the brioche with almond (essentially a bostock) the first try. The taste profile are what one seeks IMO for this kind of dessert i.e. rich with less emphasis on the sweet. Next experience was when a guest brought over the same brioche dessert along with a blueberry mousse cake. I am not a fan of cakes so my view is biased. It was OK and I found it to quite sweet. I think this spot will be a regular feature as I am in this area often. 4 Stars. read more
