It's been years since I've come here, but friends wanted to grab some stuff when we were downtown on Sunday, so worked out for me. Order is a walk-up window with the menu on a stand sign across from it. You know it's a true small family-run business since one of the owners is there taking the orders and chatting it up with such kindness. We were there to try their seasonal Pandan Coconut Soft serve Sammoe, but since we got there late in the afternoon, it was already sold out. I was super stuffed from just having a late brunch, so grabbed a few items to go. One of my friends ordered a sundae, so of course I had a few spoonfuls. You can tell the ingredients used are good quality! The cakes are given to you after you pay at the window, but for any ice cream products, you walk through the side alley to their back window. There is a little bit of seating in the back, which works for warm/hot spring and summer days, but for rainy ones or winter, takeout is the only option as there is no indoor seating. There are two line ups - one for pre paid orders and one if you want to order then and there. Some things are daily specials so it really depends what you're looking for. We had the coconut pandas cookie - the Cooke is baked well with great texture. The cookie is crispy and the coconut pandan jelly adds a nice coconut flavor. There's a caramel that adds a sweetness to it. Would definitely try more cookies again. We also got a variety of cake cups. The nice think about cake cups is they're all moist - no dry cakes here! Pistachio honey - reminded me of a baklava - little heavy on the honey side that overpowered the pistachios but still pretty good. Not bad but was hoping for strong pistachio - 4/5. If you like baklava, you'll like this more than me. Coffee crunch - really great coffee flavor - nice and bold. The slight bitterness of the coffee really helps temper the sweetness of the other ingredients. A really good one for coffee lovers - 5/5. Chestnut - good chestnut flavor. Again this one had a good balance of sweetness with chestnut flavor. 5/5. Hojicha vanilla - a really good take on a japanese tea flavored cake. Has a really nice delicate flavor of tea with the slight bitterness tempering the sweetness . 5/5. Cute small business that is super busy. There is no interior to walk in so you line up outside and simple order what you want. They have limited amount of item per day and it's a first come first served. I believe you can order ahead for pick up as well which helps save time from the lineup in the cold. Finally made it to their OG here! I have been to the West end location before but hadn't been to the little take-out window spot. After a visit to nearby Distillery District, I popped by to see what was still on sale. The one staff there was a young lady who was very enthusiastic and helpful at introducing the day's stock and selection. She was warm and bubbly on a cold afternoon. I managed to snag some goodies: earl grey shortbread cookies, oolong shortbread cookies, and a matcha chocolate cookie. All the flavours were perfect -- mildly sweet and accurate profiles. Been wanting to try a puff cup for a while because the top looks delicious. I got the peach puff cup and it had peaches in cream, topped with a brûléed cookie (i think). First time trying Roselle, I had their holiday Chestnut cake ($80) The cake overall was very tasty and enjoyable and I extremely loved their crust but I felt like it lacked the chestnut component. The only chestnut about the cake was the small bits of chestnut garnishes they placed around the cake and the very faint tasting of chestnut mousse. We counted ourselves lucky when we arrived on a Saturday afternoon 1hr before closing to plenty of options and no line ups. It was a humid hot day, so the Peach Parfait was exactly what I needed to cool down with. The softserve is creamy, with a hint of that buttermilk tang at the end of the vanilla notes. The parfait has cake chunks on the bottom and is topped with a cookie crumble and fresh peach chunks. Each element brings a new flavor to the palate, so it keeps it interesting to the last bite. Definitely a wonderful treat if you are in the area. My friends got several different items I was lucky enough to sample also. I really liked the spicy cheddar shortbread. It packed a punch of heat and the salty cheddar was lovely along with the buttery shortbread. The Madeleines also deserve a call out, with the earl grey one being the best of the bunch in my opinion. Yummy desserts but steep price. The mini cake is on the creamy side but is really delicious. I enjoyed the banana eclairs the most. It's hard to find places that make good eclairs! I was surprised my total was ~$35 when i ordered the eclairs, a cookie, and mini cake so I asked the server about it and she mentioned that the banana eclairs come in 2s and they cost you $16! I went during the day and there was still a 5 person line, but it moves fairly quickly (5-10 min wait max). read more

Happy little pastry shop in King East! One of those random drop-ins that was a real delight. It was a popular spot while we sat and ate our selection of treats. Constant stream of people walking in and taking a variety of sweets with them. I love banana flavoured things so I ordered the banana cream pie eclair. Vanilla bean custard, rum caramelized bananas and whipped white chocolate. Heavenly. Please try. Also had this cinnamon pastry that is a cross between a croissant and a ​cinnamon bun. To me, more a cross between a doughnut and cinnamon bun. It actually doesn't matter because that was delicious​ as well. I didn't have a chance to try what they had ordered but the smile and sheer satisfaction on their face said it was good. If I am in the neighbourhood​ again, will have to make a visit! read more

Love Roselle! The only downfall is that it's a bit farther and a trek for me to get here, but I know it's worth it. I'm a sucker for strawberry season and this year the strawberry parfait was perfect. I've also had their seasonal matcha cake (sorry I forgot the name), and their cookies and nothing has disappointed so far. I wish they were open more often too but I'll take what I can get. My third visit to Roselle and it continues to impress. I first visited this small and beautiful dessert shop a few years ago when I was taking a food tour of the area and immediately loved it. I make the trip down from Markham. The desserts are honestly perfect! Perfect looking, perfect combination of flavors, perfect consistency. I've tried the banana eclair, the lemon tart, the pistachio st horare and the opera cake - all delicious. Their cookies are also crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Unfortunately, I tried the seasonal peach sundae this weekend and wasn't impressed. I found it very plain - the soft serve was creamy but it just had raw peaches and crunchy pieces of torn brioche. It was about the size of half your conventional soft serve cone from a ice cream truck (just for perspective on size). I expected a $12 sundae to have a little more oomph in it - like a cooked peach sauce, nuts maybe. Very pricy for what it was. Other than that - try the desserts! read more

I love loveeeed The Turtle, especially because the cake had different textures and layers with a strong salted caramel flavour. It is on the sweeter side and is therefore a good dessert to have once in a while! I tried their earl grey cake and wow it just tastes pretty, best way I can describe it. Only way to know what I'm talking about is to try it! Their espresso was a little too acidic for my liking but it helped offset my sweet cake with quick pairing. Came by here again because it's been some time...their Earl gray mousse cake is as tasty as I remember. With covid they've modified their selection of baked goods and sell the cake slices and eclairs in 2pc/box/$16. They also have "cake cups" which is basically mini cakes in a cup! Amazing experience. The parfait was ridiculously good. The ice cream had a yogurt flavour and was incredibly rich, without being overly sweet. The cake and crumble were so soft and buttery. The peaches were fresh and popping with flavour. Everything worked well together. We completely understand the hype surround this place, and have bought into it completely. We also tried the 8 inch blueberry meringue lemon tart. It was fantastic. The presentations was pristine, and the flavours were spot on. The blueberries were unbelievably sweet, the meringue was light and fluffy, and the tart was crisp and buttery. I'd give 4.5 stars if I could! Half a star improvement space comes from the earl grey lemon and triple chocolate (as described below). Stopped by on a Friday about 5pm when they opened for the day and there was a massive lineup around the block. Waited for about an hour which was probably worth it! I got three cake cups - earl grey lemon, tres leches with coconut, and triple chocolate. Earl grey lemon - name sounds amazing but probably my least favoured of the three. Earl grey flavour is a bit subtle and I can't tell if there is lemon flavour outside the lemon poppyseed base. It kind of feels like a regular lemon poppyseed muffin but with a lot of frosting. Tres leches with coconut - my favourite of the three. Super airy sponge cake where every bite makes me feel like I'm in heaven the coconut flavour is just strong enough and tres leches is done beautifully. Would recommend! Triple chocolate - seriously decadent. If you like classic chocolate cake, you'll love this. Only complaint is that it had too much cream and not enough cake, as shown in the picture (sorry it's not the most alluring photo). I can totally understand why there's always such a long line. I didn't get to try the very Instagramable earl grey soft serve, but I really enjoyed these little cakes. They're on the pricey side ($8) but Roselle is a small business run by a couple who learned their craft while living and working in Paris. They no longer have their infamous Earl Gray soft serve right now!! They instead do a Strawberry twist flavour (which was served plain without any fun toppings). This was disappointing since I was looking forward to the Earl Gray one :( So I opted out to get the The Earl Cake instead. It had a white chocolate layer on top of a light mousse with a wonderful early gray flavour. Under, it had a thin spongey cake & crunchy (slightly salty) bottom. Sweetness level was not overwhelming. It's VERY pricey at ~$9 though... Next time, I have my heart set on trying their apparent 2 best-sellers: the Turtle tart & the Banana cream pie eclair ! read more

Honestly can not say enough good things about their dessert, except that if you don't time or plan ahead of time; expect to be out of luck. Which is an amazing problem to have. I have been lucky enough to snag some of their goods during their weekly pop ups - and everything is just plain tasty and lovely. I really enjoy their cake cups - my daughter's favourite is the cookies & Cream; for me it is a toss up between their Earl Grey and Cookies & Cream. Either way, you will be happy. Picking up during their pop ups have been easy breezy, but you need to remember to place your order on Monday 8 pm, which is when their order window opens for Saturday pick up. Check their Instagram (@Roselle_to) for the menu offerings. They do, also, offer soft serve (their Early Grey soft serve is to die for) on Tuesday nights. This cafe/bakery is so cute and definitely a must-go for anyone stopping in Toronto for a bit! They have the cutest designs along with amazing desserts in a really aesthetic cafe. It's a pretty small place with 3 tables and some wall seats, but it's very bright inside and the workers are so sweet and helpful. My friends and I came in for some desserts (mainly the Earl Grey soft serve) on a Sunday afternoon and we ended up sharing a next-level Earl Grey soft serve sunday, a latte tart, and a black sesame shortie. Desserts: Next-level Earl Grey soft serve sundae - The regular earl grey soft serve is $5.50 for a small cup, but only +50 cents will get you three extra toppings: white chocolate pearls, a mini earl grey shortie, and lemon cream inside. The toppings are definitely worth it for the pictures/aesthetic and also they make it more tasty. This was the best earl grey ice cream I have ever had (and I have had a lot as a lover of Earl Grey and all desserts including it). Definitely worth it and good to share. Latte tart - This dessert definitely caught our eye because it was so perfect-looking and how it looked just like a latte with a flower design on top. The tart crust was perfect on the bottom and the flavor inside was a little coffee-like and a bit sweet. Interesting dessert concept, very cute. Awesome dessert place, definitely recommend and wish I could try more of the desserts in the case. They all look so scrumptious!
