Butter Baker never misses! I always order cakes and get their monthly soft serve here. While their cakes are on the sweeter side when it comes to Asian bakeries, the flavours are great. They are also one of the few allergen-friendly spots (most places use nuts or almond powder surprisingly). They have a monthly soft serve ice cream flavour and I strongly recommend dropping by and sharing with someone (it's huge). I recently went and got their orange creamsicle flavour (twisted with vanilla) and thoroughly enjoyed it. My favourites so far are their blueberry and mango flavours too. This month seems to be a strawberry lychee mix, so will definitely be back before the end of the month to try that out! read more

The sorbet itself was really good, it was this passion fruit, orange and guava sorbet. However when I purchased this, the cone broke two minutes after I walked out due to the sorbet being watery (it's normal because it's a sorbet for those who wonder). The cone lowkey just broke despite me holding it really lightly and it made me really sad and I went back to purchase another (8$) so if you decide to try the sorbet, please consider using the cup instead of the cone. Unless you want to pay 16 dollars for an ice cream cone. I've had their ice cream before and the cone didn't break with the ice cream, hope that helps! Ice cream worth moving for? Maybe. I tried this ice cream recently on a trip to canada and let me just say all other ice creams have been ruined for me. The flavor of the month was blueberry cream pie. The ice cream was creamy and wasn't too sweet which I appreciated. I went back a second time during my trip and tried the Bakers latte and it was the perfect balance of sweet and bitter. The service was great but I do wish they had a bit more tables and seating to enjoy the awesome space that they've created. They've extended their hours! (management must've read my review hehe ... jk) Anyways, my friends and I have made the bad habit of coming back every month when they change up their soft serve flavour of the month. August was mango lassi and it's become my fave flavour already. Better than pina colada which I thought was fantastic (it's just so hard to beat anything mango honestly). And yes, extension of that closing time by an hour means we arrived and they were making fresh waffle cones! HURRAYYYY! These waffle cones are sooo good. You can see the staff making em right behind the order counter. The initial bite is crunchy but once you start chewing the cone gets so soft and just melts in your mouth. Different mouth feel from some more commercial shops which have mega hard waffle cones that aren't usually made that day. I always look forward to the start of every month because I know they will have a new flavour. If you're not big into ice cream, definitely try their cookies, but make sure to ask if they can heat it up, the workers are always happy to do so. The store itself is quite hidden away from where the main streets are, but it's worth finding it. The inside gives cozy vibes. A small store located at the end of a commercial strip plaza. On the outside the store appeared dark and I thought it was closed, so that can be deceiving. Ample parking right outside the store. Once inside it was a haven from the heat outside. A very cute and visually appealing store with thoughtful placement of specialty items and baked treats for sale. We had stopped by for the soft serve twist, grapefruit sorbet (non-dairy) and vanilla yoghurt (dairy). It was light, refreshing and had a distinct grapefruit flavour. We enjoyed it. Flavor of the day was Salted Caramel and Tahitian Vanilla. $6.99 plus tax for soft serve cone, never thought I'd see the day I'd pay that much for a soft serve, Armageddon has arrived. Maybe it's due to expensive ingredients like Tahitian Vanilla?; I challenge anyone who can tell the difference in flavor from regular run of the mill vanilla. Got the swirl which comes in a sugar cone. Salted caramel overpowered the Tahitian Vanilla, swirl was a good blend as Salted Caramel by itself would have been too sweet. Their softserve is back! March is pineapple and the colouring is not as strong as previous years, the flavour is still good! We got a swirl (pineapple with vanilla) on a cone for $6.99 + tax. FYI the cones are made in house so often times the end tip has a hole and can be leaky as you are eating. Definitely keep more than one napkin at the end to avoid a mess. It was my first time visiting this location as I usually visit the downtown one. They have a nice selection of bud vases, ceramics, and little gifts and stationery for sale. I ordered a matcha and peach birthday cake, because it's one of the few bakeries that offer matcha flavour cakes. I didn't like how the smallest size was 8", and not easily customizable. Also, the matcha and peach flavours didn't mix well together, and the peach was too fruity to go with the matcha. Be honest, I am coming to this place for checking out the merchandises from the local artists. The little shop is very aesthetic and set up nicely with artwork, merchandise, products from local artists. I have tried croissants and sliced cake from their downtown location. I am trying the fruit purée and vanilla swirl sobert. The flavour changes regularly and the day I visit is blueberry. Be frank the fruit purée is too sweet for my liking and lack of vanilla flavour. Location/Service This place is quite hidden within small streets surrounded mostly by commercial buildings. It's within a unit on its own - and limited parking available. It wasn't that busy when I went, so the parking seem to be manageable. The place doesn't have a big or fancy sign, so please use your GPS to direct you there. But I love their layout inside. It's very modern, simple and very visual. I also like the big sign once you go in, where it's the IG spot for photos. Also like the social distancing setup, with plexiglass, sanitizers and even a clear one direction path to follow. Staff were great, very friendly and informative of the menu items. Order came quick as well. Dessert I usually come here for their sorbet - which changes every month, so it keeps you entertained and excited on the different flavours they test. Both times I was here - the sorbet was very constant - not too watery or ice-y. I love how they fuse in basic flavours, but it's something you never thought of trying - for example, blueberry and cantaloupe. Although the sorbet is a little bit on the pricer end, but it's a nice treat on a hot day! Definitely swing by - I saw families/kids come by. I've heard of this place so many times - for their cakes and photogenic, Instagram-able ice cream swirls. I've been meaning to come for ages but the pandemic has dragged my "tomorrow" to "next month" to "next year. So sad... July's sorbet special was passion fruit and I just knew I had to get it. I was super full from a lunch at Cafe N One and so opted against the vanilla swirl for just a lighter sorbet. The sorbet was so good! Super tangy from the passion fruit and just the right level of sweetness. I asked for it in a cone with a cup on the side, and thank God I did - my first bite caused the sorbet to topple and the buttery waffle cone to break! No wonder - there was a giant gaping hole in the centre. The cone was delicious in itself, though arguably not a great fit with the sorbet (could definitely see it working with the vanilla though). I also got a slice of matchamisu on the side. It was very delicious! Not heavy at all. The matcha chiffon cake paired perfectly with the white chocolate creme, and I really enjoyed the chocolate chantilly in the middle. It's not too heavy, but the flavour coats enough for you to taste every component. There is even sorbet for those who can't handle dairy. After hearing about their DT location, we were stoked there was one in Markham. The location is honestly quite strange for a bakery as it's in the more industrial/office area of Markham. For a Saturday late morning, the line wasn't extremely long, only like 5-7 parties. We picked up the sorbet and soft serve swirl cone, butter croissant, pear tart, ham and cheese croisant, and a matchamisu (matcha tiramisu) cake slice. First off, the sorbet was a fresh mango sorbet that fit perfectly well with the vanilla soft serve. It came with a waffle cone which finished the package really nicely. Excellent and refreshing for the hot weather. The bakery items however were not so great. I expected the butter croissant to be flaky and light, but it ended up tasting dense and day-old. The pear tart was alright, was quite literally half a pear on a pastry. Flavour was light and not overly sweet. The ham and cheese croisaand the matchamisu were pretty standard but nothing exceptional. The interior was quite cute and they had a lot of quaint and artisanal items like flavoured vinegars, and giant bobby pins. Overall, I'd definitely recommend the soft serve and sorbets here. The bakery items could really use work, or perhaps I visited on a really off-day. I've heard their sorbet flavours are rotational so will have to be back to try the new flavours and maybe give the bakery items a second chance. UPDATE: We visited another time to try a new sorbet flavour which was Passionfruit for July. Still quite delicious however the mango flavour is still my preference. Since the price for a swirl in a cup or a cone was the same price, we asked for it in a cup with the cone on top/side so that it wouldnt drip all over the inside of the car. They informed us that doing this would be a $1.25 upcharge despite the fact that a cone and a cup is the same price. The math didn't add up for me and we just ended up opting for the cup itself. Visited on a Saturday afternoon after lunch nearby. It's somewhat hard to find due to being in the middle of an industrial area, though the lines might give it away! Luckily I was there around 2:00 pm and didn't have to line up outside (at the moment, 8 at a time). Got the mango (June flavor) and vanilla twist cone. I enjoyed the combination which included a mango chunk. Pick your spots weather wise, as my cone started to melt pretty fast! There are a few seats and benches outside, or some just ate in their cars. The lines do seem to get busy (at one point around 30 people waiting) so I would watch out for time. Thought the price was a tad high for the soft serve (~$7) but enjoyable overall. It seems there's some monitoring of this page so I'll add that perhaps the merchandise items could be separated from the queue as that might help cut down the line. I have been wanting to try Butter Baker for the longest time after having a friend rave about their cakes. I must say that this location is quite hidden and in a very industrialized area. At first I thought I was in the wrong place but trust your maps! The exterior of the place is extremely adorable and you can say the same for the inside. It gave off very cozy and aesthetic vibes. When you walk in they have their cake display and their other baked goods. Towards the back the have a lot of local business items such as candles and honey. There was a jar of caramel butter that drew me in but I decided to save it for next time. For this trip, I went with a packet of hazelnut cookies and a slice of the matchamisu. I must say that the price is quite up there but I appreciate the ingredients and the fact that everything seemed to be handmade with love. Oh boy was that slice of matchamisu amazing! It was just enough matcha without being bitter and the perfect amount of creaminess. I was satisfied from the one slice of cake. Definitely a cake I would go back for and even buy the entire thing. I came here for the soft serve. It's a really cute shop at glance but then it seems to be trying to do a lot at once. There is everything here from baked cookies and pastries to it's not containers for babies and incense burners and body cream. I had two soft serve ice creams and one cookie. It came up to near $19. We had the passion fruit and vanilla soft serve. It was super sour on the passionfruit side and more like a sorbet, so the vanilla soft serve was a nice way to balance out the shock of the sourness. I would be interested in coming back to try different flavors in the future. They said they have one flavor every month. The cookie was thin, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside.
