Delight is a lil sweet spot o' heaven in the junction. As if you are stepping into a cozy house on the prairie, you shall step into all things chocolate and treats where Delight is concerned.. I first discovered this place with my love affair with their big Joe's- Delight's version of a chocolate candy bar, MMM MMM good. I purchased them while at the sweet potato. Since the price was more economical at Delight I ventured and found more than what I bargained for. This was back a few years. Big Joe's, yes, yet also a sweet line up of chocolate truffles and ice cream and dairy free options too. To my surprise, the dairy free options were exactly as the shop name conveys, delightful. Their blackberry and lavender ice cream... Oh my goodness. It's like you're in a wildflower field in the summertime. Anything lavender typically renders thoughts of summer and sun! I haven't tried other flavours apart from the strawberry. However they all seem rather tasty. I most recently visited with a chocolate sea salt caramel on my brain (funny how after a trip to the dentist all I want is candy and chocolate.) and yes, their big Joe's, which are currently being revamped. I also picked up a pint of their Ontario Strawberry dairy free ice cream.... Der-lish! They feature other staples like candied nuts and local honey in support of the Ontario Farming Community. All in all this little shoppe is very attractive. Look at those curtains that communicate warmth and a happy invite. I am updating my review. I had their Ontario strawberry ice cream, and it was a very delicious treat much as Ontario ice cream should be in strawberry season. That said, five bucks for a small ice cream cone is still a pricey thing. I don't know if it's just me being an old man, and that is now the normal price, but when it costs 20 bucks to get a teeny one scoop cone for a family that seems beyond my frame of reference. read more

"I have this theory that chocolate slows down the ageing process .... It may not be true, but do I dare take the chance?" - Unknown Now that is a sentiment I can get behind. Or as one of my most favourite cartoon characters, Lucy Van Pelt from the Peanuts gang would say "All I really need is love...but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt!" Most recently I was lucky enough to have a gift package of chocolate nirvana from Delight bestowed upon me as a thank you for participating in a panel discussion at a conference. Talk about a good taste thank you gift. Delight is just that, a delight. This small little chocolate pocket tucked quietly away in the Junction on Dundas St. W. opened up a couple of years ago. I have frequented the shop on many occasion as it is not far from my work hood. They bake brownies fresh daily and when you walk through the door only to be greeted with the wafting scent of baking brownies it is easy to be seduced by the shop. The proprietors at Delight take great pride in using only fair trade ingredients including Harmony Organic Cream and chocolate from La Siembra. The end results speak for themselves. The truffles are like butter in their consistency. It is melt in your mouth ambrosia at its very best. There are a few seats in the shop so you can sit and enjoy a hot chocolate and double dose your chocolate desires with a warm brownie. Organic ice cream is also available, served up in handmade waffle cones. If you find yourself venturing out this way then I would encourage to stop in and treat yourself. I really liked this small, cute little shop, with friendly chocolatiers offering samples and showing off their interesting creations. It's great that it's local, organic, fair-trade, and besides that, the chocolate is super yummy. Being an out-of-towner, I had to try the more creative and exotic things they had, so I had the Quebec blue cheese cream, and a rosemary chocolate. Unfortunately I had them in the wrong order - I should have eaten the more delicate rosemary one before the more pungent blue cheese. But the chocolate was smooth and delicious. Mmm read more

I wanted to check out this place for a very long time(heard good reviews). I was so glad that I was around the Dundas West area on a freezing(and snowy)weekday afternoon. I was dying to try their peanut butter hot chocolate(I love peanut butter!!), so I was super excited to enter the store with that in mind. Service: Attentive and friendly service. A young lady answered my questions(about many variety of chocolate!) Food: I got a peanut butter hot chocolate($4.50) and a box of chocolate(8 pieces- about $20). The hot chocolate was thick, rich, and creamy- just like how I imagined a quality drink should be. The chocolate pieces were great as well- the filling was creamy and rich and the outer layer was thick and a little hard to bite into(not brittle and soft like most chocolate pieces that you buy from big chain stores). Chewing the thick outer layer and the soft filling was a fun experience for my tastebuds. Everything in the store was handmade, organic, and fair-trade chocolate, so I felt great about drinking and eating. (My family also loved the chocolate pieces) I can't wait to come back during summer to try their ice cream. Until then, if you are near the area, you should go and try their hot beverages. read more

Chocolates, and ice cream and caramels - oh my! Delight is filled with hand made creations of delightfully delicious proportions! The ice cream is made in house, and so far I have tried Rhubarb - which was surprisingly tart for an ice cream, and had wonderful rhubarb flavour. The second visit I had the strawberry and it was, hands down, the best strawberry ice cream I have ever had. Made from local strawberries they cooked and made into ice cream a few days before, the freshness and incredible flavour was so delicious that I savoured every bit! It was actually chocolates that inspired my visit to Delight because they sell Raspberry Jam filled dark chocolates and that is hubby's favourite, but it is hard to find. So I bought him a box with a selection of those offered that day, including Ginger (which he adored), Caramel and Smoked Sea Salt (also a hit), Chili Lemon (surprisingly spicy but tasty), Peanut Butter (a must try for peanut butter lovers), and of course, some raspberry filled (which are perfect for those who love raspberry and dark chocolate) I also bought him one of their 6 layer bars, which have caramel and chocolate and I don't know what else, because hubby ate it so fast!. I also bought some jam, and when we opened it, it tasted wrong, not bad, but not like strawberry jam, so I emailed Delight and received a prompt apologetic reply, saying there was a batch that was overcooked (which killed the strawberry flavour) and they thought they had removed all of the jars but obviously missed one. They told me to bring it back for a full refund and a free jar of caramel sauce. That was a kind gesture showing great customer service. When I returned the jam, I ended up getting more bars, and chocolate and ice cream... well played Delight, I see what you did there! Even without needing to do a return, I will be back. read more

Had intended to go to a similar joint nearby as part of a strategically planned road trip but it was closed (won't give them the press by naming them). We were walking back to the car when we spotted this charming little space. I would call it a very happy accident. I'm not someone who would normally order vegan ice cream, so I'm fortunate I didn't notice it was vegan until I was half way through as I might have balked and went with some chocolates instead. One word: YUMMY! I went here to review the chocolates and interview the owner and I found a wonderous shop full of chocolate delights. Each chocolate is hand made and filled with fillings they make themselves. They even make chocolate lollipops and cookie-cutter chocolates. They have chocolate boxes to hold the chocolates and best of all - ICE CREAM. The ice cream is all hand made on the premesis by the husband of the woman who makes the chocolates. The one I tried - chocolate naturally was amazing. This ice cream was like having a chocolate orgasm in your mouth. The chocolate flavour was rich and clear with none of the sweetness or chemical taste you can get off some ice creams. Hot chocolate like liquid gold! I swear, it is a thing of stunning beauty when you're walking down the street and actually have to STOP and lean on a nearby building/garbage can/person because the hot chocolate you are drinking is SO good, you just.......need to pause. This is what happened to me after having the hot chocolate from Delight in the Junction. It's a great little chocolate shop that sells individual chocolates, brownies, and all things chocolaty. But here's the great part: everything is hand made, not overly expensive, totally organic and fair trade. So it's chocolate without guilt....oh, except the whole fat/sugar thing. Dairy-free Ontario strawberry ice cream with coconut milk, just over $3 after tax The lightness of coconut milk definitely complimented the local strawberries in this handmade-in-house delectable organic desert. Though cones were also available, I went with the smallest cup and was in and out smoothly. This miniature pink dish was even topped with an adorable morsel of chocolate that served as a pleasant intermission partway through. A cozy lovely place, the staff were as sweet and generous as their scoops of Delight at this ice cream café. Based on the two ice cream flavours I ended up with, I need to give this place five stars. Imagine a bowl full of ripe grapefruit pulp - then amplify that amount to fit the room you're reading this review in. I'm just saying, the grapefruit sorbet was BURSTING with fresh and natural flavours. It was SO good, my guy and I were loving it until the end. Dazzling! Thing is, we ordered it with the chocolate milk ice cream (had to get chocolate -- it was a chocolate store), and the flavours were melting together... Mmm... citrussy grapefruit and sweet rich quality chocolate. Maybe I should give a 4, b/c their location is way out by TTC. I'll stick with the 5 b/c seriously, I've never had grapefruit sorbet that was so good. I *would* go back, just for that sorbet. And to have some more of that chocolate ice cream. Delight is a sinfully delicious sweet shop in the heart of the Junction. While their chocolates and truffles are incredible, this summer I became a sucker for their ice cream - I don't think I've ever had anything as delicious as their organic homemade chocolate ice cream. Of course there are many flavours, including a mint chocolate chip that tastes like PROPER mint (strange yet tasty) and a chocolate peanut butter chip that is probably the greatest thing I've ever tasted. It's nice to have this place in my neighborhood. You will find there the organic blablabla fair-trade handmade chocolate. Their sin, for me, is not offering anything above 75%. I do love extreme bitter chocolate and for me 75% is still very sweet. And how come a chocolatemaker doesn't offer anything above 75%? Are you serious, guys? Truffles are beautiful and delicious. I suggest the blue cheese, it's oh so different. People are now discovering these different mixes with chocolate, like sea salt, spices... don't be afraid and go for the blue cheese, it's way better than the default flavours you're used to! I have been in here a couple of times. The chocolate ice cream is some of the best anywhere. At almost 5$ per scoop, it should be. It is well worth trying their ice cream. However, the space in Delight is cramped. There is not much room to eat ice cream. The lighting and layout of the displays does not help showcase anything all that well. Even though others have yelped about Delight before, I decided to keep it on the down-lo. I didn't want to add to all the 'hype' by blabbing my big mouth all over town about how just about the best chocolatier in the city was right on my doorstop. But that all ends today! As Toronto's first handmade, fair trade and organic chocolatier in the city, Delight, run by Jennifer Rashleigh and Jeff Brown have a lot to brag about, but they don't stop there, they continue to go above and beyond in their offerings, always outdoing themselves. As an unfortunate dairy-freer (not by choice!) while I cannot nosh on most of the flavours of ice cream available, I am never without satisfaction as the dairy-free chocolate (made with coconut) is so sinfully bursting with flavour that I can't even remember what it is I'm missing. They also offer in the hotter months many sorbets which a little birdie told me is often made with local ingredients. I've had an apple sorbet and I'm definitely a convert. In terms of their truffles, an essay could be written. My personal favourites are the chocolate caramel with smoked sea salt, the maple butter and the early grey vanilla, but their seasonal offerings which come and go are also just as spectacular. If you adore chocolate bark, the dark chocolate walnut bark with fleur de sel will knock your socks off, while the dark chocolate candied orange and lemon peel will be a tea-time (or anytime) favourite in no time. It also doesn't hurt that everybody there is also so damn nice. In terms of pricing, I can't agree with 'moderate' as the truffles are almost all $1.50, basic truffle price, the ice cream is $3.25 for a cup and a little more for a cone, everything is pretty standard gourmet chocolatier fare, so a little indulgence definitely won't break the bank. read more

I'm in *so* much trouble. Today the hubby and I went for a walk down the Junction, and had wound up zeroing in on Delight; home of Handmade, Organic, and Fair Trade chocolate, ice cream and other yummy desserts. We brought some chocolate pieces home, including the Dark Chocolate Bark with Spiced Nuts ($3.49 for two well-sized pieces), and two regular sized solid chocolate bars (.99 each, one milk and one dark). And this is where I'm in trouble. Where can I possibly feel guilty about purchasing and eating these delectable treats, when they're organic, fair trade certified, locally made, preservative free, and well priced? Even the hubby, who usually despises the dark variety, walked away happily nomming on the delicious spiced nut bark. So, is it possible to feel guilty about NOT feeling guilty? Because that was the thing about chocolate; it's supposed to taste better from being that guilty secret every woman had hidden behind the eggs in their fridge right? But tonight, I had a gratifying piece of the spiced nut bark for dessert without the requisite. Delight is run by the husband and wife team of Jeff Brown and Jennifer Rashleigh (the latter being the former restauranteur and pastry chef of Citron). I moved to the Junction about 6 months ago, but I didn't really notice or pay much attention to Delight because I don't eat a ton of chocolate and if I eat ice cream I turn into a sniffling, sneezing mess. This was before I found out that along with their amazing regular ice cream (chocolate peanut butter chip, blueberry cheesecake and banana caramel are faves) they have at least FIVE different kinds of non-dairy ice creams and sorbets. FIVE!!! They always have the chocolate and it's really the best. Made with a coconut milk base and very high quality chocolate, it's rich and creamy, smooth and I didn't feel like I was missing out at all by having the dairy free option. It's so good that when I had it for dinner (yes dinner) the other night, I was still enjoying it long after it was gone, I couldn't stop reminiscing about how delicious it was. Soooooooo good! Most of the other options are seasonal. The Ontario strawberry was amazing, as was the rhubarb. The flavours are super intense and very fruity. Lovely really. One of my favourite places for sweets. The chocolate truffles are delicious and unique. On a warm spring/summer day, we like to get the homemade ice cream. For fans of chocolate mint ice cream, Delight uses real mint leaves for flavor (not the artificial stuff) and it's not sea foam green in colour. Other flavors include various in season Ontario fruits (strawberry, peach, etc), chocolate, banana caramel and yes, blue cheese. I also tried their chocolate peanut butter which was outstanding. CHOCOLATES: If compared with Godiva's concoctions and those of other luxury chocolatiers, Delight Chocolate's filled chocolates have a standardized shape and plain designs. Delight Chocolate are encased in strong, sweet chocolate which is either milk (approximately 38%) or mid-dark chocolate; one or two white chocolate covered options are produced per season. The milk chocolates tend to have soothing but satisfying fillings, such as Orange Espresso, Hazelnut Toffee, Vanilla Earl Grey and Cappuccino (tinged with cinnamon). The sweetest option is the milk chocolate covered Caramel, which has an intensely sweet, buttery liquid filling. The dark chocolates have more intense flavours, with the unadulterated taste of spices (Fresh Mint, Ginger), fruit (Strawberry in the summer, Raspberry in the winter) and alcohol (Whiskey, Ice Wine, Butter Rum, Irish Cream & Mint Mojito). The popular dark chocolate is the multilayered Chocolate Caramel Sea Salt. The white chocolates tend to have delicately flavour fillings such as Cardamom Rose and the legitimately boozy Eggnog. All of Delight Chocolate's tropically sourced ingredients (cocoa, sugar, vanilla, nuts, spices and coffee) are fair trade certified and organic. All of Delight's northern hemisphere produced ingredients (milk, fruit, alcohol, maple syrup) are also organic, and sourced from local farmers, brewers or tappers. The smoked sea salt is sourced from British Columbia and the Five Year Old Cheddar is from the cheesemongers down the street. Delight Chocolate makes its own fruit jams, caramels and ganache(definitely a hellish work environment for a glutton with a sweet tooth). Overall Delight's chocolates taste exceptional. The spices bite, the caramels delight, the alcohol warms, the fruits refresh and the cheese smells. The chocolates are satisfying: one will sate a sugar craving and two will stop hunger pangs. Delight Chocolate enjoy creating daring flavour pairings. Their winter/Christmas selection contains a generous amount of spiced fruit (Grapefruit Chili, Orange Spice, Almond Orange & Spiced Plum) which stray from the chocolate box comfort zone. My favourites are the simple medleys in milk chocolate and the rich and simple dark chocolates (i.e. Extra Dark & Vanilla Icicle). I would have preferred the fruit fillings to have been creamed rather than jellied, and possibly paired with spices (e.g. a strawberry cream with candied ginger). The Five Year Old Cheddar is great for cheddar lovers. I long for a taste similar of that of the greatest filled chocolate I ever melted in my mouth: Le Riopelle from Miss Chocolat in Gatineau, QC ("Ganache with triple cream cheese Riopelle"). The simple, rich fillings (Maple Butter & Peanut Butter) are pleasant but forgettable (if only candied bacon could be inserted). CAKE: Delight Chocolate makes small flourless chocolate cakes. (Larger cakes are available by special order.) The flourless cakes have the consistency of brownies and the texture of icing. The cake dissolves in the mouth. It has a full bodied chocolate flavour with moderate sweetness. The cake is rich; one fat little slice will fill you up. If all flourless cakes are this delicious, they could dominate the market. HOT CHOCOLATE: Delight Chocolate's hot chocolate comes in Regular, Spicy, Peanut Butter, Caramel and Bittersweet Orange, as well as seasonal specials. I have tasted the first three flavours, plus a White Chocolate Raspberry. Delight's hot chocolates have a rich, milky chocolate flavour. They do not have the intense concentration of drinking chocolate or the biting taste of dark or bittersweet chocolate. They are filling and pleasant, though a touch too sweet. ICE CREAM: In its Junction neighbourhood Delight Chocolate's is as popular for its ice cream as for its chocolates. Delight's ice cream has a thick, chewy texture and an excellent balance of creaminess, sweetness and flavour. Its Chocolate Ice Cream has a wonderful, full bodied flavour. Delight's Ontario Strawberry is only available only in the summer months, between late June and early August. Compared with Hagen Daaz's famous version, Delight's Strawberry ice cream is tart, fragrant, and sweet. It is a dark shade of pink, and pleasantly embedded with strawberry seeds. Delight also has nice Black Velvet Espresso and Maple Walnut flavours. Its Vanilla Bean flavour is unexceptional. The standout flavour for me is Banana Caramel, a summer flavour which captures the heady sweetness of caramel and the delicacy of bananas. Despite the popularity of Banana Foster drinks and Banoffee cakes, Banana Caramel ice cream remains rare. This rarity and its excellent taste should propel Delight Chocolate's Banana Caramel ice cream onto any list of Toronto's most stellar iced treats. I purchase mini cone at Delight Chocolates, which is one fat scoop of ice cream served in a squat sugar cone. read more

Great ice cream! Had the junction junkyard and raspberry white chocolate - both very bold flavours and nice & creamy

I have been to Delight three times. The first two I picked up pricey but special event chocolate (Easter, Christmas) and it was pretty good, not Soma, but nice. However, the time I ordered ice cream it was like a joke. The young woman serving us was a combination of reluctant and, er, not proactive, as in barely made eye contact. We ordered chocolate and it took, I'm not kidding, FOUR MINUTES for her to scoop it out. Possibly this was because she was scraping the bottom of the carton, over, and over and over. We kept making eye contact with each other thinking she was going to finish planing the cardboard and get a new container of ice cream to scoop from. Nope-no such luck. We got a scant serving for five dollars and I was frankly shocked there weren't bits of paper in in. We were stunned and polite enough to pay for it and walk out but when we discussed while eating, which took about a quarter of the time it took her to scoop it, we felt like idiots for not rejecting it and asking her to please serve a normal portion from a new batch. I have had neighbours go there and be charged something different than was posted, so they'd order what they thought was a small (since the portions are pretty toy-don't go there for volume) and were given and charged for a medium. Cute place if you're into 'artisan' but I would highly recommend you advocate for yourself by asking questions before you get the the cash register, and be prepared to ask if something doesn't seem right. read more

What made the ice cream at Delight truly notable was the selection of flavours.
