Second, the guys who run this place - polite to everyone - smart storekeepers. A smile and a polite word keep people coming back. Now to the important stuff: A huge range of chocolates from the United Kingdom ... OMG ... toffees, choccies, the works. Some really good biscuits and good, old British "crisps" (Walkers). This place is my not-so-secret indulgence ... mmmmmmmmmmmmm. Ahhh ... yes! Their products are very, very fresh. They pay attention to expiry dates. I can't believe the experience I just had here. I've been coming here for 10 years. Despite the sparse selection, the stale bulk candy and the expired goods, I came here because I loved the idea of an independent candy store. I will never again enter this business. I spent over $50 on a few items. The owner gave me an itemized receipt. As I was leaving the store, I saw that I was charged for the jumbo version of two items I purchased. I went back to the owner and respectfully showed him the receipt and the items. He was incredibly defensive, scanned the item and showed me the item was marked at the price it should be, but still showed as 'jumbo.' I asked him to scan the jumbo item so I could see I was not being charged for a jumbo and it truly was a system error. He scanned it and nothing was showing up. I'm not entirely sure on this point - but I feel like he was trying to enter a higher price for the jumbo as I stood there so he could justify the incorrect price. I asked for either a refund or to be given the jumbo item since that's what I was being charged for. I don't care if there's an error in your system. Fix it - it's not my problem. The real problem was how this was dealt. The owner wouldn't let me get two words in. He spoke over me for a solid 5 minutes. I kept asking if I could be given the courtesy of explaining what was wrong since he clearly wasn't understanding. I said 'I've been shopping here for ten years. Can you please just let me explain what the problem is without talking over me?" And he said "I don't care. This store's been open for 25 years. It doesn't need you." I was floored. Just a verbal barrage of condescension and abuse. It's a shame. Ten years of patronage out the drain. It's funny that he wrote a review on here asking patrons to give the store another chance. After that display, I'm making it my mission to spread the word on how you shouldn't. The service was the worst I've ever experience in my life. Half the items I purchased are literally expired. Everything is insanely marked up ($10 for a 180g chocolate bar, $3.29 for a regular sized push pop that's not imported). You can also find most everything elsewhere. Located next to the theatre, a great place to shop, grab a snack and kill some time before catching a show. Staff: There was a single cashier just chilling and doing his job. Not much else to say. Store: It was very well stocked. Plenty space to move around and plenty to choose from. The price was on the higher side, however there were items I don't see often at other shops so that's a plus. I agree with previous reviewers. This place is spotless clean with a great collection of curated chocolate bars, candy both throwback and imported. Let's just say we loaded up on a lot of sugar rush offerings and pretty happy with our purchases. A few words of warning though: Not everything in the bins is the freshest. I got a small bag of black liquorice all sorts and you could break a tooth of them. Too much space wasted in the store on Jelly belly's. The chocolate crunchy spread which i thought would be great was pretty horrible. All in al a great experience and a nice alternative to bulk barn. Give this place a try. read more

Candies...chocolates...oh my! This is kinda like Sugar Mountain's depressed cousin. It looks a little on the sad side but it gets your candy fetish satisfied. Some items were sold out so not sure if inventory just ran out, but from how many jars were empty I think some restocking is needed. There are lots of candy/chocolates that you don't find in regular stores so if someone is looking for something unique/different than try here. Sugar Mountain is just a few doors down so just head in over there in the first place b/c they seem better stocked. read more

They have a great selection of the best British chocolate from across the pond. I highly recommend the galaxy chocolate which they have a variety of. They also have a great selection on candy, biscuits and Cadbury's chocolate. read more

This is the best of three candy shops on Yonge street (the other two being Tutti Fruitti and Sugar Mountain). Bulk Mine has the best selection of candy of the three and the freshest sour keys I've ever seen! Mmmm Most of the bulk candy was fairly reasonably priced, $1.49 per hundred grams for most of the sweets. Chocolate was more expensive. Awesome selection. Lots of vintage toys and retro stuff plus a good range of British imported items. Really clean interior too. read more

This used to be my legit favourite place to get candy. And for those who know me (and not even well), they know that bulk candy from bins is my idea of the best day ever. Want to win my heart, and take my to a bulk candy store and set me free. With the addition of Bulk Barn to the neighbourhood, I think the Bulk Mine has just lost its way. I like that it's always the same people in there (a family run store) but you can tell they are struggling. Today, maybe they're getting their new shipment tomorrow?, all the candy was hard and stale. Bottom of the barrel, literally. Nothing was overflowing and fresh. The space seemed tired; lots of empty space on shelves, and an overall feeling of...loss. I started to get a bag, but whenever I stuck my scoop into the bins, everything just felt so unappealing. This is sad because it used to be a great alternative to Sugar Mountain (SM charged $2/gram and Bulk Mine charges $1.49), but Bulk Barn charges less than that (way less) and so the inventory turns over faster, and the product is fresher. Yes, at Bulk Barn you crush your way through those tiny ass aisles and have a line up no matter what -- but sadly price (and thus quality) often wins out in the end. read more

I went back to this place yesterday for more candy and realized this is a great place to buy gifts. They have extra large pez with Star Wars and Shrek characters, fun retro lunchboxes and all kinds of vintage candy bars. Interestingly, they also carry British food like crisps and mushy peas. One of the flavors of crisps (potato chips) was roast chicken!! It probably tastes good even if it sounds weird. read more

I looooooove candy and I looooove chocolate, so imagine my excitement when I found chocolate covered jujubes at this place! OH. MY. GOD. It's the best of both worlds, in every mouthful. Who said there was no such thing as heaven on earth? Although I only had eyes for the aforementioned, I can still tell you that they have a very impressive selection of 'other' candies, nuts, dried fruits and chocolate. I was over the moon to be walking home from work one day and stumble across this gem of a store...even more so when I realized they stocked cans of Irn Bru in the fridge. If you have never tried Irn Bru (I have waxed lyrical about this drink in a previous review), it is a bright orange soda made in Scotland. I believe the recipe came from the god's and was handed to William Wallace (or Mel Gibson). Irn Bru is made from Girders, which is why it makes you incredibly strong when you drink it...I am talking stronger than Popeye, strong! Scottish folklore has it that the god's gave this secret recipe to William Wallace as they knew that one day the Scottish population would be renowned for their alcohol consuming and would need a beverage that could cure all wrong doing's from the night before. Thus if you are hungover, there is only one cure, in my humble opinion, ice cold Irn Bru. I digress. Bulk Mine carry a number of Brisith goodies, including Bird's custard powder and yorkshire tea. They also have an array of other candies and other snacks to bulk buy. This shop is most definitely worth a visit. read more

I was in there today and just want to say this. First of all, the selection is fantastic. The service though also makes it a great place. I had to return 5 magnets that I had bought there earlier in the day. I don't know why, but the magnets would not stick to my stainless steel fridge. Weird I know. But they wouldn't. I had thrown out the receipt way back when I had bought them, so that was a potential problem. Well, not in this place. The guy was lovely. He accepted my return, no problem. That goes a long way with me. I will shop in there again. He was courteous and simple friendly and professional. I respect that. Buy in that store! This store has the best range of British imported foods/sweets/drinks i've seen in candy stores in Toronto so far. It is so fantastic to be able to walk in off the street and purchase a cold can of Irn Bru, or grab a packet of Walker's Crisps. They do also have a terrific range of bulk candy and snacks too, as well as some packaged candy and novelties. But I know that i'll be going back for my Brit-fix! read more

When I found this place I knew I was in trouble. Less expensive than Sugar Mountain or Bulk Barn, Bulk Mine candy store is great for Value Shopping. I've found that the quality and selection are reasonably good, but could be better. If you are looking for the freshest candy try Sugar Mountain or somewhere further downtown. For the price, I usually buy most of my candy here. Be careful when you are buying gummy or soft candy. More than once have I forgotten to check, and been disappointed at home when things are hard or stale. All of the candy is ok. Nothing here smells or taste different like at Bulk Bark or China Town. On my last visit I did have something rather odd happen. I had been to Sugar Mountain and Bulk Mine. After buying my candy at Bulk Mine I commented on how the price is better, and it seemed like I got more candy. The Bulk Mine store employee asked to weight my other candy. At the time I didn't see much harm in letting him do it so I did. Later on I realized that not was it extremely rude, but also kind of gross. I had said I already ate a good portion of the candy. With chunks and bites ripped off to taste the candy. Then I thought he didn't even think twice about what was in the bag of candy or what else I was carrying in the bag which held the candy in question. A strangers sticky saliva filled candy bag all over their scale? What if I had been sick, or worse with something unsanitary in the bag. Personally, I think that if they want to know what the competition charges they shouldn't be so cheap. Comparing my half eaten bag is rather disturbing. Not to mention the fact that the clerk didn't think it was that big of a deal. Despite this not so serious ordeal I would still buy my candy here. However, I feel more meh than yeah now. read more
