Mushroom and Truffle with Fried Pierogi and Godzilla with Poutine
    Brandyn N.

Stumbled upon this while browsing Union Station for something to eat. There were a lot of interesting options from pierogies to loaded wraps, so we thought we'd give this spot a try. First, was the Mushroom and Truffle with fried pierogies. Overall, it was decent. The pierogies were nicely fried and the taste of the mushrooms and white truffle oil certainly came through. Next was the Godzilla with poutine. While this poutine isn't as on par with other poutine options around, it definitely does the job. You'll get to enjoy the gravy and cheese on some seasoned fries along with that shredded pork and mayo. Oddly enough, I didn't find it too heavy. The amount of gravy isn't as heavy as you might typically find at other poutine spots. To some extent, I actually appreciated that. Overall, this is a good spot if you want to grab a quick meal if you're looking for something to eat while at Union Station. It's located in the food courts so there's plenty of tables and seating. There wasn't much of a line, but service was relatively quick being ready in about 15 minutes.

    Buffalo chicken pierogi

This was an interesting spot - in theory I liked the idea of a loaded pierogi bowl, but the individual components were just not great. I tried the buffalo chicken bowl - the chicken tasted like it was microwaved, the pierogis on their own were pretty bland, and the whole thing was basically masked by the sauce. The prices are reasonable but the food itself was pretty meh. I'd maybe try a different dish to see if I just ordered the wrong thing, but I certainly wouldn't come back for something of the same quality.

    Baba's classic

We got the baba's classic and we liked it a lot. The onions were nice and caramelized. The cheese on top also made it yummy. The staff was incredibly nice. They asked us how spicy we wanted the sauce we asked for and gave us the spiciest one. I want to come back and try the mushroom and truffle pierogi.

I had heard good things about this place, so when the new food concourse opened up at Union Station, I gave it a try. Loaded Pierogi, in a nutshell, is the Smokes Poutine of pierogies. They serve pierogies with your choice of toppings. My choice (I forget the name, but it had different meats, including a chorizo sausage) set me back $17 tax-in (yeesh, I can get several bags of pierogies for $17). I tried the "classic", which meant half my pierogies were boiled and half were fried. First off, I'd recommend going with fried, as the boiled pierogies tasted no better than the ones you'd get in a grocery store's frozen aisle. The fried ones, however, were cooked well which made them stand out. Overall, while the toppings were good and the concept was interesting, I don't see myself going back. It's far too expensive considering I can walk across the pond to St. Lawrence Market for authentic pierogies at a fraction of the price. Plus, I found the meal to be a little overwhelming - pierogies are heavy enough, I don't think they need to be weighed down with a plethora of toppings.

    Union station food court

I ordered the Bacon, Saurkraut and "Oh Yeah" Bacon deep fried pierogi during ritual $1 eatweeks. This loaded pierogi comes with "two types of crispy bacon, center cut & double smoked lardons with house made sauerkraut, caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, sour cream & green onions". This location is at the union station food court at one of the corners. Not difficult to find. Good that the food was waiting for me when I got there. For $14, this is a bit expensive and not something that I would frequently eat. The portion is alright because 8 pieces don't seem a lot but it's potato so it fills you up. I'm glad I picked deep fried rather than the boiled/steamed version, though I thought the deep fried ones would be more crispy. When I opened the box I almost thought they gave me non deep fried ones because it's not golden brown, it's quite pale. Definitely it's the choice of the toppings that make/break this dish. But with cheese and bacon and potato, you can't really go wrong. The saurkraut help to offset the heaviness of everything else. If it's cheaper, probably I'll eat more often.

    Butter chicken pierogis

I tried this spot while visiting Toronto with some girlfriends, and I am so glad that I did. I can't speak to all of the menu items, but I got the butter chicken pierogis, and they were divine. I opted to have the pierogis boiled, and I appreciated that they gave some sour cream on the side instead of adding it to the hot pierogis. The butter chicken wasn't authentic, but it was tasty. The pierogis were flavorful and a good portion. Overall, delicious choice.

I swallowed my pride and phoned in a fake smile for the camera.

In a desperate attempt to grab a quick bite before heading to the movies, I went to the Union Food Court and discovered Loaded Pierogi. I gravitated here because a) I wanted fast food that wasn't McD or Timmies and b) I loove pierogis. I ordered the Baba's Classic ($9 before tax) which were standard-fare pierogis with caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, sour cream and green onions. I did not find this very good. The pierogis were bland and lacking flavour. I asked for "crispy" pierogis but they turned out overcooked.. the shells were tough to eat. There weren't that many either so I was left feeling even more unsatisfied considering the price. The frozen Cheemo pierogis you find at the grocery store taste better than these, sadly.

Smokey Pig Roast, Loaded Deep Fried Cheesecake

I ordered the smoky pig roast at there Union location and if it wasn't for the excellent and very knowledgeable front staff worker names Joan' suggestion then I wouldn't have fell in love in with this new favorite dish and there loaded deep fried cheesecake is absolutely work to go for those long trips on the trains.

    Wild Mushroom and Truffle ($14)
    Rachel C.

Wild Mushroom & Truffle ($14) - had a delicious blend of different types of mushrooms, caramelized onions, herbs, goat cheese, and truffle. Half of them were boiled, and the other half were pan fried. The pan fried ones definitely tasted better, had a light golden crust. The boiled ones were obviously soggy and had a weird texture. The pierogis themselves tasted like any normal frozen ones you could've gotten from the grocery store, but the toppings (especially the truffle) did make this taste a little bit fancier than the ones people usually make at home. Not worth the price but it did taste good. Wouldn't come back again cause now I'll just make this exact same thing at home lol

3.5 /5 I haven't had a lot of pierogi but every chance I get I try it out. To my delight the new food court at Union Station had this place love the new food court by the way. First thing I saw was the daily special and it was smokey pull sausage omg sounded so good at first I didn't think the stuff was inside but it was done like a topping which was fine cus it looked and taste delish also you get a choice of fried or boiled and I tried both and I think I like fried better comes with sour cream I think it was pretty loaded so I enjoyed it.

Came here for breakfast and got the breakfast inspired perogies. It was a little bit salty for my taste and a little pricey but I'm always willing to try something once.

    Buffalo Chicken

This was my first visit to Loaded Pierogi and I did not expect the brilliant service I received. I have a restricted sodium diet and the server and chef both worked together to make me a meal I could eat without worrying. The chef even calculated the mg of sodium which has never happened before. I will definitely visit again.

It is from a box and you can either buy the packaged box to go or eat one of their ready and heated empanadas. For $4, it was tiny and although tasty, the filling is barely existing. I chose beef and there was barely any meat, mostly just dough. Although understandable this isnt made by the store on site, but rather from a packaged box, sold in fours, and not sure of the cost of that, but hopefully its not 4 x $4 = $16, as it would definitely be a rip. The savoury pastry gets 2 stars from me plus 1 for the nice lady serving the empanada and allowing me to use card to pay. If you want a SMALL snack and really like dough, then maybe try this.

The lady was not back at the empanada stand so we patiently waited for an empanada (there were no other customers at the time). After a few moments, another couple walked in, bought an empanada through the same gentleman, to whom the gentleman then escorted back and served an empanada. We were already taken aback by what happened. However, expected him to then serve us, he removed his glove and proceeded to walk back to the cashier. You won't find any country bumpkins here!…read more Rube's Rice was named for its late, great founder Rubin "Rice-Man" Marcus, whose shop in the downstairs of St. Lawrence Market has been a Toronto mainstay for four decades. It's been around so long, Rube's -- which now inhabits both a center island and a side shop in that basement -- once was the first and only shop downstairs. Rube's Rice boasts more than 50 varieties of the "World's Most Popular Food": Arborio, Basmati, Jade, Wehani, Kokuho, Saskatchewan wild, Sweet Short, Parboiled, Lundburg, Bamboo-infused, and Forbidden (aka Black) Rice are just a few options. Despite its name, Rube's isn't only rice, stocking a large variety of pastas, cereals, grains, flours, peas, chickpeas, beans, lentils, cereals, couscous, trail mixes, herbs & spices, dried fruits, and a whole bunch of quinoa varieties. If you have dietary restrictions, Rube's is known for their gluten-free pastas, products for those with allergies, and a bounty of organic brands. Rube's Rice's prices are a little high IMHO, but the quality and variety are AMAZING! A lot of people demonize rice in this keto-infested day-and-age, but Rube lived 92 years selling and eating that food he loved so much. If you love countless varieties rice, Rube's is very, very nice!
