Had a couple of Sharman's proper pies last night (the Steak and Ale). They are good sized pies with lots of meat. They do bake up easily. Instructions on the packaging are spot on. They have a huge variety of pies. Steak, Chicken flavors plus shepherds pie and other options. They also carry Lazy Daisy biscuits and have sweet pie options. Will definitely be back. Wonderful, friendly service when we bought the pies. Pies themselves (steak and ale, beef and vegetable) were a bit dry. Had to buy a drink to wash it down. Supplying a side of gravy or just adding it to the filling would make these much better. Pastry could be more buttery. read more

This is a store for frozen pies.There is no space to eat inside the store. There are frozen pies both savoury and sweets inside the freezers. I got three pies which are two beef and barley and peach pie. Each pie is in a lovely bag. To open the bag, no scissor will be needed. I don't believe pies are expensive by considering the qualities. I will recommend this place anyone who likes pies. read more

Our team had completed a fun escape room experience on a Thursday afternoon in mid-August. We were walking over to Unicorn Cafe and passed by Sharman's Proper Pie. My friend and I took one look at the store, and went in together without saying a word. I like that we are so similar. Our move also made the other team members wait for us outside... haha! What caught our attention? The sausage rolls. They were huge. The pastry looked flaky and the sausage inside looked massive. I asked a question and a nice man was kind to provide a helpful answer. I indicated that we were headed to a cafe first, but we'd be back. We spent probably a good two hours at the cafe. When we said goodbye to most of our team, my friend and I headed back to Sharman's. A woman there said that the place had just sold out of all baked sausage rolls. The horror! She did say that we could get a six-pack of frozen ones. They were going for $34. It was a bit steep, but we love sausage rolls that we each got a package. We looked at the pies. They looked hefty for their size. My friend got a chicken pot pie. I got the beef vegetable pie -- or so I thought. We both paid for our goodies with debit cards. It was straightforward. It was great seeing my friend again. I directed him to the closest subway station, which was Woodbine. I headed over to my parked car. I got home and had my pie. It was still warm, despite spending some time at East Lynn Farmers' Market. I decided to cut my pie in half to make it easier to eat. I had ordered a beef vegetable pie and got a chicken pot pie instead. Thank goodness I like chicken pot pie! The quality of ingredients in my pie were top notch. The pie was savoury and yummy. You got chunks of carrots, potatoes, corn, and onions. The chicken meat was seasoned well, likely due to the chicken broth and seasonings. It was hearty and tasted homemade. The crust was delicious. I am all for a buttery crust. This place does it right and well. On the weekend, I baked my sausage rolls in two batches. It was hot outside and I didn't want to use my huge oven. Instead, I baked three of them on Saturday in my toaster oven. Although the package doesn't have baking instructions, my friend and I asked the woman behind the counter for them. She said to brush them with egg wash, and bake at 400°F for 30 minutes. I did just that. It was pure magic seeing the pastry puff up through the glass windwo. Each sausage roll looked so good flaky and golden. The sausage rolls are excellent here. Normally, you get a thin sausage layer in the pastry. This place gives you a full sausage. It was insane and it made sense why these rolls were more expensive than what I'm accustomed to paying. I am drooling uncontrollably as I write this review and look at the baked sausage rolls. I need to return to get more. I still want to try the beef vegetable pie. The place also has tourtière, which I would also like to devour. It's a decent pie shop. The service is spantacular. They are super nice, friendly, and helpful. This was my second time here in three days. They let you know that you will be back for more. The tarts are made fresh daily. You can get 6 for 18 CA. The tarts are amazing. Thank you, Canada, for butter tarts. I think I gained 5 pounds from these tarts, but it's ok because they are my new favorite dessert. You can taste all of the ingredients butter, brown sugar, vanilla, and flour. The ambiance is nice even though the shop is small. You can tell it filled with love, and they care about their customers and their business. read more

So I had the haddock & potatoes today in a cream Sauce and I was worried it would be too creamy but I liked it a lot. Very subtle the cream, not overpowering. Spicing more subtle then the chicken. I think my only criticism is I would of liked more fish in it. I think it might be like making blueberry muffins and if you don't purposefully add blueberries to each cup then the blueberries don't divide up evenly. I kinda wonder if this is whet happened here. I did enjoy it enough that I'd get it again or at least look up how to make this myself. Definitely yum! read more

I waited a while to write this review so that I could try the different pies. You have choices, which I like. They have some classic options (steak and ale, chicken), some dessert (raspberry) and some creative options (jerk chicken, cheesy chilli). I enjoyed all of them. The pies are easy to make if you choose to get one to bake at home (note that you do need an oven). They also offer fresh made ones in store. My all-time fave is definitely the jerk chicken pie. It has the jerk chicken (obviously), but as well, there is some gravy and rice and peas on the inside. Very nice. Will definitely be going back to try more. read more

So yummy!!! A friend gave me a couple of pies that sat in my freezer for MONTHS when I finally ate them I couldn't believe I had lived this long without them. Tried the veggie balti (very nice flavourful but not hot curry) and the tourtière (very good, recommend serving with some chutney - but that is how I eat any tourtiere). The smaller pies are still pretty filling - I found that a half a small pie plus a salad is a nice lunch. I have since been back to pick up blueberry, jerk chicken and chicken balti. Food: 4 Stars Service: N/A Ambience: N/A Fill Factor: Filling I am not sure why but over the years I have become quite a fan of pies, though mostly sweet pies rather than savoury. However, when I heard about Sharman's Proper Pie I knew I just had to try it. Though it took me a while due to the current situation, it was well worth the wait. Without going too overboard, I decided to pick up an individual sized pie, a frozen family sized pie, and of course one of the much hyped butter tarts. I chose the beef and veggies for the individual pie which was around $10. The crust was fairly thin and flaky and the pie was filled to the brim with ground beef and...veggies. They definitely do not skim on the fillings here. However I did find the taste of the pie to be a bit on the bland side which was a bit disappointing but I still enjoyed it. Next up was the frozen steak and cheese pie which the instructions said to pop in a 400 degree oven for 40-60 minutes. The pie came out nice and golden brown and some of that filling was just oozing out. As usual the crust was flaky with a lot of meat chunks and sauce. And the all important taste test... solid. Definitely much more flavourful than the beef and veggies and overall delicious. Finally we get to the butter tarts which I had read so much about in the various reviews. I am no expert on butter tarts but I feel like the hype is real as the tart was darn good. The crust was super flaky when you bite into it and the filling was sweet but not overwhelming. Overall it was delicious and I am kicking myself for only picking up one as now I have received orders from my partner to go pick up some more soon. So do yourself a favour and pick up more than one tart as at $3 a pop they are absolutely worth it. The storefront is bright and clean but not very big as you can probably only fit a few people into the space. When you walk in there will be a list of pie descriptions to your left, cooked personalized pies and butter tarts in front of you and two refrigerators full of frozen pies to your right. The kitchen however is fairly large and you can see the magic of pie making happening right before your eyes. Service was friendly and fast. All in all, I am extremely pleased with the experience and will be back for more pies and butter tarts. I also learned that they have a pie club where they will deliver pies directly to your door every month. Omg! Delicious! The best butter tart and steak pie on the planet! I was in the area for a dental appt. I was starving and asked my hygienist for recommendations. She recommended a cafe across the street and this meat pie place. I purchased bulgogi from the cafe bc I love Korean food but was told to wait outside for 10 min. I decided to go to Sharman's during the wait. I quickly noticed the scrumptious butter tarts in the display case that said contains "LARD" and was sold! Also, saw that they only had personal meat pies that were cooked. I decided on the family size steak pie for the fam which was frozen in the freezer. Perfect dinner for tonight. I decided to snack on the butter tart on my drive home and was shocked at how firm the tart was and that it didn't crumble apart like most other butter tarts! Also the caramel buttery crunchy top layer filling was smashing! I think this is the best butter tart on the planet! I wish I bought a dozen! Baked the steak pie tonight and the steak pieces were very generous and the gravy and pie crust and shell were perfect marriage is yumminess. I loved that they did not sodium the heck out of the pie too! Outstanding Sharman's Proper! I have recommended this to all my neighbours and friends. Please open a location in South Etobicoke! I just finished the steak pie and found the meat to be too tough. The pastry was very good, and the meat was plentiful. Overall i would rate this pie at a 5/10. In comparison, the Hamilton meat pie company pies i found to be far superior. read more

I buy the chicken balti pie almost every week. It's such a great dinner to have in the freezer when you're lazy to cook. My kids love it too, especially the crust. Great quality meat and amazing spices. Finish with a butter tart and you're all set. read more

Sharman's opened only a couple of blocks away from me during the CoVid19 pandemic for take out only. Got a hot classic chicken pot pie for take out ($10). Super filling for one person. Tasty, a little on the salty side. Two workers (both wearing masks) were pleasant and knowledgeable of ingredients. As a Toronto sports fan I've been hearing Sharman talk about his pies for a while and I really wanted to try one. I am a member of the TruLocal meat delivery box, and I ordered a pie in one of our deliveries not even knowing it was one of Sharman's. Which was a pleasant surprise! It was a chicken pot pie and it was extremely tasty. My partner also really appreciated that it was lactose free (which I didn't know when I ordered it hahah). Really really enjoyed it. And having just moved to the east end I hadn't realized the shop was on Danforth! So guess who has been commanded to swing by on my way home from work and grab a few hahah. 5/5 definitely recommend! Highly recommended for some proper, easy to prepare comfort food. Walk in, pick up a frozen pie, and cook at home in an hour and you are good to go. The ingredients are quality and they always taste so savoury and delectable.
