I've been to this Markham location a few times for their beautiful ice cream swirls. I visited earlier today for the guava swirl this month and there was a bit of a line up. The location is in an area you wouldn't expect it to be and the store itself is pretty clean & organized. There is a parking lot right in front of the entrance so it is pretty convenient and I've never had a problem finding a spot to park. There are also picnic tables/benches outside for you to enjoy your treats. When I was waiting in line today, we were told we had to wait a few minutes for the machine to cool down so one of the staff members handed out samples for a beverage. The people in front of me each received one as well as the ones lining up behind me. However, no one offered me any which I am confused about; why were the people ahead of and behind me all offered a sample and not me? It just didn't make any sense to me. Not to mention, when it finally came to my turn to order and pay, the card machine was acting up so I asked the cashier if the payment went through just to double check. I was obviously expecting an answer but I didn't receive one, instead, the lady rolled her eyes at me. I know for a fact that I was loud enough to be heard so that cannot be used as an excuse for why I wasn't answered. I am quite upset with the service I received today. I hate to leave negative reviews but I am always honest with my experiences and this was just my experience. I hope the service here will be improved in the future. read more

We ordered one cone of the new blueberry flavour and another cone of the classic Tahitian Vanilla. The blueberry flavour this month was a super pretty colour. We thought the flavour tasted exactly like a blueberry with a slightly sweet taste, which we highly enjoyed. For this cone they topped it off with a fresh blueberry , adding a cute touch to represent their monthly flavour. As per usual, the Tahitian Vanilla can never go wrong. I had no idea they had a Markham location! Thank youuuu TikTok for showing me the way lol We visited last Saturday during a heat wave warning. There was a line outside the store with about 15 people ahead of us. It took about 10-15 mins till we got inside. We got there at about 3:30 and there weren't many cakes or pastries left. We ordered one mango sorbet and one mango and vanilla swirl. The mango sorbet was a little too sweet for me but my boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed his soft serve twist. A nice refreshing snack and they're really generous with the portions! I just wish they had more flavours. I've gone to butter baker for their July, August, and October flavoured icecream. Its the perfect thing for summer. The passion fruit was tart, the blueberry was sweet, and my fav the choco coffee swirl? (caramel mocha) deliciousness. The coffee was a little bitter but the caramel balanced it out so well. I typically never leave negative reviews but I am extremely disappointed because I preordered something 8 days in advance, they got my order wrong and was met with an "it is what it is" attitude. I've been to Butter Baker many times over the past few years either for myself or as treats for friends/family and always gotten great service and yummy desserts. This time I had pre-ordered their Birthday Cake gelato in the colour blue for a friend 8 days in advance for pickup at their Markham HQ. When I got there, the item they gave me wasn't what I ordered. The employee said "he was sorry but he didn't know what happened" - they only had my order in the colour pink. It's not about the colour, if it was a pickup for myself, I really wouldn't care. It's just the fact that I had ordered and paid for something days in advance as a gift for a friend and I was not given what I had ordered and there wasn't really any other effort put into fixing it. After standing in a line of 15-20 people inside the store for over 20 minutes since I wanted to buy some storefront items as well, I didn't want to make a big fuss since there were still a ton of customers behind me in line but drove back home quite disappointed with my experience. Happy to see that the business keeps up with comments online and are able to address any concerns. Feedback would be to please ensure staff are well trained to take care of "extenuating circumstances". Undoubtedly things are bound to go wrong - if they are able to better communicate quicker with customers - am sure people would understand. ---------- We dropped by today hoping to try the mango sorbet with vanilla swirl. It was a bit of a weird place as the area was quite industrial. We waited about 15 mins in line to get to the front to place our order. The set up was relatively safe given people were respectful of the capacity inside. We placed our order only to hear about 5 mins in that they were trying to figure out how to refund or exchange the orders of ice cream for the family ahead of us. They were giving them the choice to choose cookies in lieu of ice cream. Apparently the machine was malfunctioning and yet they were still taking orders. They provided no clarity to the line of customers inside or outside which I found quite appalling. What's worse was they couldn't offer refunds so they had to "force" people to take cookies instead. After another 5 mins I asked the cashier whether their machine was working and she said no. With that we left the store empty handed. I shook my head as I looked at the lines inside and outside because the staff still had not decided to tell people to maybe not wait as there was an issue. I've been seeing their pastries and desserts on IG for a while but mainly for their DT location. Didn't realize their HQ was in Markham! Went on a weekday afternoon so not much of a lineup. We decided to try their Butter Croissant, Ham and Cheese Croissant, and Almond/Walnut Croissant. The Butter Croissant was okay with lots of flakiness but not heavy in butter like Rahier. The Ham and Cheese Croissant is NOT worth it! For almost $5, there was barely any cheese. The only cheese I tasted was from the outter layer crunch. If you like Ham and Cheese Croissants, try the one at Duo instead. Also tried their signature ice cream. This month is Mango! You have the option of getting just Mango or Mango/Vanilla twist which is the common one you see on IG. Tried the Mango/Vanilla twist in a cone for $6.20. The waffle cones are made in-house. Overall, nice summery treat! I'm not sure if I would return. If I do, it won't be for the croissants and maybe only for the ice cream. Have to say the cashier was very nice and knew we were talking about getting a bag to separate the croissants. She instead offered a small box for us. Love the attentiveness to customers! read more

Butter Baker has always been a regular go to for us when we need a cake for a special occasion. That being said, I do believe that their cakes tasted better when they first opened in downtown. Overall, their cakes are relatively light and airy, which is what I enjoy about them. Their flavours, however, are more subtle and delicate, and not as bold in flavour which others may prefer, particularly for the price. I do enjoy their fruit flavours, though. They also offer monthly soft serve flavours, which keeps me on my toes for that reason. Their creme anglaise base is quite smooth, and the vanilla is prominent. Their featured flavours can be a hit or miss, sometimes I find it to be too subtle, and other times perfect. I think it really depends on your liking, but I dont mind coming back to trying new flavours! read more

I was afraid that this place was going to be super overhyped after seeing it being advertised everywhere. I'm relieved that the ice cream lived up to the expectations! I got the blueberry and vanilla swirl which was the flavour for the month of August. The acidity in the blueberry was an amazing compliment to the creamy vanilla! It was super delicious and you will hear me raving it to my circle of friends for a long time! I also had the chance to try a slice of their mango coconut cake and that was also super nice! It was flavourful with the mango balancing out the coconut. The sweetness level was just right! The interior is super minimalistic which is honestly so aesthetic (gives off Muji vibes). The staff were nice and followed covid protocols. I'm glad that there were picnic tables set outside the store so you could eat your ice cream there. However, expect guests from Mother Nature (bees, wasps, etc), so I would eat your ice cream in the car if you can. The tea flavour is there and the raspberry is a nice compliment but the cake is quite sweet. I would request less sugar next time if possible. I think they overdid the syrup between cake layers. Not a big deal but it would be nicer if the message was written on chocolate rather than biscuit. I know some bakeries that are more pricy so I guess $49.95 (no tax) for an 8" cake is reasonable. Interested in trying other cake flavours as well as their renowned soft serve. PS. The store closes super early which is a bit inconvenient. I went today (Saturday) and the hours were 10am-2pm. Came here on a Saturday last week and boy was it a busy place! Seems like tidy shop selling some meat kitchen related tools and bakery goods and ice cream. We only got the ice cream and boy was it yummy!! We got the strawberry soft serve (#1) and also the Tiramisu (#4). The strawberry softserve has some nice/strong but taste natural strawberry flavor and I am in love with this ice cream !!! For the Tiramisu one, there is some cookies or cake in there that's has some nice coffee flavor, a thumbs up also! So wanted to visit again yesterday but we arrive like 30 min before closing and the soft serve are all sold out ... learned my lesson and will go there earlier .... Over the long weekend, I stopped by Butter Baker to check out what they have. The location was pretty busy considering nothing around them was open. Although there was traffic at the location, it felt the line moved fast as there's products to check out while we were moving along. Their croissants were mostly sold out, but they were serving soft serves and cakes found in their display cases. This time, I purchased a pack of almond cookies and a slice of tiramisu and matchamisu. Due to the set up of the location, it's a grab and go type of place. When I got home, the tiramisu cake slice fell over on its side. My recommendation is for them to tape down the cake slice inside the box to prevent it from topping over (other bakeries/patisseries I go to tapes it down to prevent cakes from getting damaged during transport). Aside from this, the cakes were delicious and I especially enjoyed the almond cookie. It's got pieces of cranberries and raisins in there and I feel it's worth $6.50 for 6 pieces. read more

I bought my friend the "pavlova" and decided to get myself a few things to try. My friend said she really liked the pavlova. I tried the earl grey and the raspberry pistachio slices, and I found both to be extremely sweet. There was only a slight hint of the notes flavours in the beginning, but for the rest of the bites all I could taste was white chocolate. I thought maybe the chiffon would neutralize a bit but that in itself was very sugary as well. I also tried the bakers beignet. Super underwhelming for their price since they were nothing special. I'm not sure if it's because they weren't fresh? I tried to heat them up after but I just find the texture too dense. Finally got a chance to check out this location. There was a line up outside the store and the hours are not the greatest. Once we went in the store we discovered another line up of 20 + people when the store sign outside clearly stated 8 people in store. Once we got to the counter to order we ordered two of the fruit sorbet and vanilla swirl soft serve. Luckily the wait to receive the soft serve was relatively quick considering the number of people in store. At $14.10 for two soft serve ice creams I will definitely say it is on the pricier side. The fruit of the day was strawberry so we got a strawberry and vanilla swirl. It was a perfect mix of strawberry and vanilla, and super creamy. I probably would have given it a higher rating if not for the wait and for the price. Definitely worth checking out maybe on a less busier day. read more

I was very excited to come and try this new location and tried 2 of the swirl cones, pastries were mostly run out but it was near closing so. However, the size of this ice cream for $7 was absolutely tiny. There were 3 skinny swirls into the cone when other posts on Instagram (mostly from the downtown location) are much, MUCH bigger. Even people who went in after us to get ice cream came out with much bigger cones so not sure what happened there. Overall, the ice cream was good, the waffle cone was a bit sweet but nice and crunchy and fresh; however for the size disparity between this location (and even between customers) and downtown and what's posted online, I would not come back. Decided to order a dessert from here for my friend's birthday. They had really good reviews so I decided to give them a try. They did not disappoint! I ordered 2 Galette Des Rois (King's Pie) and was able to place an order for pick up early. I had some schedule conflicts and had to change my pick-up times a couple of times. Emailing them to let them know, they responded promptly and accommodated any changes I had. They were able to write the message I wanted onto the pie on a yummy biscuit. It was a bit confusing finding them in their plaza, they should make a more noticeable sign onto their outside store window to catch your attention. When I got there, the bakery was quiet and there was a really nice worker there. He was able to help get my order and I even picked up some nice cards and cookies (birthday cake + cookies and cream) from their display. He marked the box for my friend. Everything went smoothly and pleasantly. Definitely will come back to get more desserts! My husband enjoyed the cookies, he said they tasted unique and not the typical flavour one would expect. They offer a bunch of different items in their store that aren't pastries if you are looking for gifts. One-stop-shop for anyone who is shopping for themselves or others. So glad we got to try this place! It closes at 6 on most days and is closed on Sunday's but we finally found the time to visit. The interior of the store is incredibly aesthetic and smells heavily of shortbread cookies. If you're looking to spend a little extra, they have a variety of cookies, treats and interesting knick knacks and decor you can buy. For our visit, we just opted for a cup of their raspberry and yogurt sorbet and a pint of their seasonal gelato which came in the cantaloupe flavour. The sorbet was ready in seconds and we happily enjoyed it on one of the benches outside. Super refreshing and light! The bf and I ate the whole thing in minutes and didn't feel gross afterwards. The sweetness of the raspberry was balanced perfectly by the tanginess of the yogurt. We also really enjoyed the cantaloupe gelato! It was light, refreshing, not too sweet and tasted exactly like the fruit. We even found some chunks of it in the tub.
