My husband and I were craving waffles and ice cream and we found this place. Located in a busy plaza in Scarborough, this small shop had a variety of desserts and bubble tea. Their signature is the waffle ice cream cones. We decided to try their waffles and we opted for the signature waffles because we were overwhelmed with the options to make our own (in a good way). Overall, this was good, but it wasn't my favourite. I've had waffle ice creams before and this one was a little bit lacklustre. Here's why: the chocolate banana waffle flavour was not very chocolatey and tasted slightly burned (bitter). The ice cream was a strange texture. It wasn't smooth but rather crunchy. I think soft serve would taste better. The plain waffle (left in picture) was very good, I wish I got that one. We both finished the waffles but would I order again? Probably not. Pretty to look at but taste was underwhelming. Covid: only a few people allowed into the shop. No sitting/dining, employees wore gloves and masks at all times.
I ordered the signature strawberry waffle on a Sunday. The store was manned by three people - one person at cash and two people making waffle and bubble tea respectively. The wait time was very long - prob waited around 25 min. At one point many ppl were crowding inside the store getting impatient with their orders. The strawberry flavored waffles were good, not too sweet and its bubbles have chewy centres. The strawberry ice cream unfortunately tasted subpar like cheap generic grocery store version. It was topped with a few slices of strawberry, whipped cream, and chocolate syrup. In all, I paid $7 plus tax for a small. I won't be back due to long wait time, high price and at best mediocre ice cream served with the waffles...
This is the first time I have to leave a negative review for something that I got from a giveaway. As much as I love supporting local businesses, the experience I had recently at Golden Bubbles was horrible and unacceptable. My friend won a social media giveaway contest in which himself along with 3 other people whom he tagged, can each claim a free drink and bubble waffle from their brown sugar series. Because of the Covid-19 situation, I went with my friend to the shop to claim the giveaways while the other 2 (my husband and my child) stayed in the car. When we first told The person in charge that we're here to claim our prizes, he told us to wait but then went to serve another customer who came in after us. I don't understand why we were served after. Shouldn't it be first come first serve? There's more...He pointed out that only my friend's name is on his list of contacts and not the rest of us who also got a confirmation message to redeem the giveaway. We then showed him the group conversations we each had with Golden Bubbles as proofs. But he refused to acknowledge that and complained that this contest was done by his marketing team and insisted that he needs to find out why our names were not on his list...because apparently it was problematic for him and would make things complicated?! After a few back and forth, he continued on with his frustration, telling us that as the owner, these drinks and waffles cost nothing to him but he can't be just giving away things for free to whoever claiming them and needed to make sure our confirmation message wasn't a copy and paste or forwarded message... And there's more to it.. Thinking that under the circumstances we are in and for safety reasons, he would be understanding enough to let us claim the giveaways on behalf of my husband and child who were just outside waiting in the car. But NOPE! It was another issue for him and he thought it was wrongful for a child to be the person claiming this giveaway! first of all, I don't think he understands how group conversations work... it clearly shows on the chat that Golden Bubbles contacted all of us with all of our names in it. How could it be a forwarded, copy and paste message?! Second of all, Where in the contest rules did it say that a child can not redeem the giveaway? Where did it say that my friend (who was actually the one who won the contest) is not allowed to tag a child's social media account? If he has issues with how the contest runs then he should have that separate conversation with his marketing folks afterwards but instead he kept us waiting for a good 10 minutes so he could make the phone call to clarify everything!!! So if these cost him nothing, why was he being so difficult? Just serve us so we can get out of the door for heaven's sake! He was wasting everyone's time. When he finally complied with us, My friend asked if he could choose different flavoured bubble waffle and if he could get ice cream with it. The owner responded no, we could only get one brown sugar bubble waffle plus a drink from their "Brown Sugar Series". But I later found out that we could actually get it with ice cream because it's in fact part of the "brown sugar series"!!! Not only did he fail to explain that there's an ice cream version in the series, he also claimed that we should each get a different item to try because apparently "that was the point of this promotion". Erm. That was not communicated in the contest rules. And if he thinks this is a "promotion" for his business, well he clearly has no idea how bad this is promoting for him. And that's not the end of it. Turns out He wasn't very familiar with the series himself and kept messing up my drink order multiple times. After another 10 minutes or so waiting around while he made phone calls and let his one employee finishes our order, we finally got our drinks and waffles. What was supposed to be a quick pick up and go for us ended up taking almost AN HOUR! My child was super upset and cranky because he was waiting in the car for too long. All thanks to the owner! Besides this horrible customer experience, ALL of our drinks were tasteless! They tasted like watered down milk. They were not sweet at all! It was our first time actually tossing out our drinks. They were that bad! So much for doing marketing promotions! Even though the brown sugar bubble waffles were okay, the whole experience left a bad taste in our mouths. And We do not want to recommend to anyone nor post pictures on social to show that we got these for free. Finally, I wanted to tell the owner that just because we were here to claim the giveaways, we were still customers who could be bringing businesses in the future! This owner does not get it at all! Good luck with the business! We will not be returning.
I ordered online and scheduled my pickup for 6pm, I arrived 6:04 and my order was all cold. I tried to let it go and just eat, but it was not tasty and since I bought many bubble waffles I decided to return and let them know about it. I'm only adding the third start because they understood the issue and made all of them again, they taste much better while warm. Here the flavours I tried and my opinion: Chocolate chip: it's good, balanced amount of dough and chocolate. Matcha poppy seed: nope, very bland, you can't feel the taste of the matcha properly. In my opinion it would be more matcha and sugar in the dough. Lava cheddar cheese: it's good when it's warm but I believe it needs salt. Dark Roast coffee: I needed to look my order to remember what was the flavour, because didn't taste like that at all. In general I think they need to work more on the flavour of their dough and make the flavours more interesting, everything is too bland. The bubble teas were good. I wouldn't come back to the place.
We had a sample of their mochi waffles at a Yelp event, and wanted to try their waffles with ice cream, but I was always too full from eating my way around Yelpland! There was plenty of parking which is always a bonus! This cute and bright little shop has only two small tables, so we were lucky to grab one. The menu can be overwhelming, but the Signature Waffles caught my eye. First up, the Matcha Red Bean - the waffles were crispy, golden and slightly chewy. With two scoops of matcha ice cream, red beans and whipped cream, it was a delightful combination. If you prefer a less sweet dessert, this is the one. We also ordered the Tarolicious. They were out of taro ice cream, so I was able to substitute it for black sesame, which is my favorite. Keep in mind, you can't substitute anything in the Signature Waffle series. If you don't like the combinations, then definitely go for the mix and match. The price is almost the same. The mini bites of mochi on the Tarolicious were my favorite, but I was disappointed they forgot the red bean topping, which is included. I guess I was too distracted and focused on taking pictures! The waffles did get soggy towards the end from the ice cream (and I was eating fast), but the cardboard cone held up well. I personally think it would be cumbersome to share the cone, or it could be that I do NOT share desserts. It is very filling though! I considered it my dinner after a light lunch! Service was friendly and I have to say, I enjoyed this indulgent treat. This is their signature hong kong milk tea which had won the Toronto Kam Cha Milk Tea Competition in 2018. I ordered the hong kong ice milk tea and its 0/5. Im sorry but its BAD. Like REAL BAD. Its super bitter, a huge after taste on my tongue after drinking every sip (feels like those cheap milk tea you make with powder, dried up and sticks on your tongue). Also, the milk has not been mixed with the tea properly, so you can see the milk around the cup, and the colour of the tea is more on the dark brown than the milky light brown. This review is JUST for the hong kong milk tea, their egg rolls are good, just not their award winning hong kong milk tea. I thought it would be smooth like those legging hong kong milk tea AKA the 絲襪奶茶. Sorry, but i expected more, especially when they have a poster stating they are the award winning hong kong milk tea store.
Unfortunately this place does not live up to the hype. The golden bubbles was a little tasteless and the ice cream was not very flavorful at all. Very cheap quality. Also I paid $1.00 peanuts and got a mini ziploc packet of stale peanuts that tasted like they were going rancid. I ordered the taro mochi waffle with black sesame seed ice cream, and a scoop of chocolate ice cream. Very low quality and little flavour. Looks are not everything ESPECIALLY when it comes to food. I would not recommend this place
We all know that famous saying "If you got a craving, feed it!!" ... and if you have never heard of it, then clearly we're not chilling enough!! I'm all about feeding my cravings no matter which side of the town it's at!! I have been coming to Golden Bubbles for some time and I can't get over the taro mochi and the honey burst! THEY ARE SOOOOO GOOD!! It's normally busy here with a line up and a good amount of wait time since all the bubble waffles are made fresh!! Taro Mochi has always been my ultimate choice, but when my ex bf introduced the honey burst to me, I was SMITTEN!! - yes, we're still talking about the bubble waffles!! - I have yet to try the ones with the ice cream since I like my bubble waffles warm and soft, but it's definitely on my list... eventually... The service is good, if you really don't know what to try, you can always ask the nice staff members for a suggestion. Oh! And they also have savoury choices just in case you don't got a sweet tooth! I wanna go and try tako yaki one next time! What about you?
Nice waffle & ice cream take out spot. They have a few signature waffe&ice cream combinations to choose from and a option to customize. [ Strawberry short cake ] The dessert looks good, taste good. It's a bit awkward to eat if you trying to have a bit of everything with each bite. Overall it did satisfy my craving for sweets. Sidenote: They do offer drinks on their menu as well.
This was worth the "hype". It's like bubble waffles on steroids. What's unique is the various flavours and combinations with ice cream. I really enjoyed how Tarolicious had Mochi in the waffle and sprinkled on top. The flavour was very rich and dense, something you don't usually get in a waffle. I really enjoyed the Mini me size as it was the perfect snack size. I believe the regular size is best for sharing amongst people. Aside from that I would love to come back and try the matcha flavour! Would definitely recommend!'
Midland is quite far from where I live so when I found out I'd be in the area, I had to stop by! I had previously heard about their MOCHI EGG WAFFLES which is what attracted me. My family and I opted to try their MATCHA + MOCHI flavor. The eggette was a little on the dry side and personally, I wish they would have let my waffle become a little crisper before taking it off the grill. On the contrary, the mochi is definitely a convincing thing to make me come back! It really added to the texture and made this place something different compared to the many other places that sell similar products. There's plenty of parking within this area as there are so many restaurants and other retailers within the plaza. You could eat lunch and/dinner before hitting up Golden Bubbles for desert. A wonderful place to do it all! One stop shop.
Location/Service - Within the Midland/Finch area, in the new plaza with a variety of bubble tea shops and new restaurants - Plenty of parking available, although it does get pretty busy - Place is located in the middle of the plaza, near a corner lot - Inside is small. No seating available, more of a buy and go kinda style - Staff are friendly and nice Food - Note the waffle bubbles do take a bit of time as they make it on the spot after you place your order (prob 5-10 min max) - You can get either their specialty waffle, which is a specific flavour or choose and mix your own and add on ice cream - Pricing wise varies, I ordered a specialty waffle for about $7. Personally, I don't find it that justifiable. - Had the Lava Chedder Cheese Waffle. Quantity wise is good and shareable. It is consistent with the crispy outside, soft inside. But overall the taste is very mediocre. No 'wow' factor and memorable feeling to it. It's pretty standard and similar to other competitors. This place is nice to have it around the area if you are craving for waffle bubbles. But I don't find it as addicting or spectacular to consistently come. I know they added new item menus on top of the waffles. Perhaps it may be good for a re-visit and see alternatives to find our a favourite item.

Golden Bubbles located at Skycity Shopping Centre offers a variety of unique bubble waffles and bubble waffle/ice cream creations. They also have bubble tea and other drinks available as well. The eatery is take out only with no seating inside. I've been the Golden Bubbles a few times to get their bubble waffle and ice cream combinations. They do come in 2 sizes where the large version is great for sharing. The bubble waffles all have unique flavours (they have savoury or sweet). We stopped by Golden Bubbles on a Sat night for dessert. The place wasn't too busy but we had a hard time choosing which waffle and ice cream flavours to have. Last time I came here I tried their Matcha Redbean signature waffle. This time we opted to get the milk tea bubble waffle with 2 scoops of ice cream (black sesame and dutch chocolate). We had to wait about 5 min for our waffle/ice cream to be made. Waffle came out fresh and hot - slightly crispy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside which complimented the cold ice cream well. The black sesame flavor tasted great and paired well with the milk tea waffle flavor that we had chosen. Staff were friendly during our interaction with them. Overall, a great place to get some bubble waffles and ice cream if you are ever around the area! read more

I first heard great things about golden bubbles while working in Ottawa from my coworkers (byward market location). Only recently have I been to this location since it is far from me. I was dying to try this location because the Ottawa one did not have the mochi filling. I LOVE MOCHI!!! as expected, I loved the mochi filled waffle. You can add mochi inside any waffle flavour. This location also had way more flavour, topping, and Icecream selection than Ottawa did (the Ottawa one might even be closed now?) I got black sesame which was a limited edition flavour, which was on a sign by the door. Can't wait to go back and try more flavours! read more

Delicious bubble waffles. We tried their cinnamon apple ice cream waffle, and it's like apple pie a la mode. We enjoy ordering online in advance, so there's less of a wait as they can get pretty busy, and if you create an account, you can earn points to redeem free food. read more

Personally, I don't find it that justifiable. - Had the Lava Chedder Cheese Waffle. Quantity wise is good and shareable. It is consistent with the crispy outside, soft inside. But overall the taste is very mediocre. No 'wow' factor and memorable feeling to it. It's pretty standard and similar to other competitors. This place is nice to have it around the area if you are craving for waffle bubbles. But I don't find it as addicting or spectacular to consistently come. I know they added new item menus on top of the waffles. Perhaps it may be good for a re-visit and see alternatives to find our a favourite item. read more
Ordered 3 waffles to share. *Orginial - bland, tasteless *Milk Tea - BURNT AF, could not eat *Taro - the only decent waffle out of the 3 Was it worth it? No, definitely not. Would it have been better if ordered in person? Naw, I highly doubt it. We did order this on Ubereats so we never what we to expected, that it wouldnt be super crispy and maybe even a bit soggy. What we didnt expect was a rock hard surface. We heated them up in our fancy convection oven so that it would be crispy on the outside and soft on the instead for the 2 waffles that didnt come rock hard. taste wise, it was extremely disappointing. the only one we liked and finished was the taro. Some of the bubbles were flat as well, which either means its their tool, or they didn't put enough batter. Anyway, no go for us. read more

I visited Golden Bubbles with high hopes twice; first time was with my brother for the mochi Hong Kong style milk tea waffle, second time was with my bestie for the matcha waffle with green tea ice cream and red bean. Bubble waffle runs in my blood as a person native to Hong Kong. It was probably the first food group I have ever encountered. All the items on the menu were very Instagram-able. The waffle itself did not deliver. The waffles were dense and cakey. It was not as noticeable for the mochi waffle due to the chewy interior. It became very obvious with the matcha waffle. Matcha was dense in contrast. Bubble waffle should really be crisp on the outside and light in the centre. It should really resembles your first love. Happy on the outside, soft, light and warm on the inside. Golden Bubble may want to revisit its recipe for their waffles. read more

Admittedly, came here just based on the hype despite all the average meh reviews. I mean did you see all those snaps of the huge lineup when they were giving it out for free?! Anyways, got here on a weekday afternoon just after lunch and there was no line up at all. But either way, ljne up or not, you'll be waiting about 10-15 mins since your waffles are made fresh to order. The girl at the cashier was really friendly - she suggested a couple savoury options like the Cheese or the Pork Floss & Seaweed ($6). Following her recommendation, I got the latter. Honestly, the pork floss and seaweed egg waffle was just... okay. The waffle batter didn't have a very strong egg taste that you'd expect from a delish egg waffle. I can't really justify $6 for an average-tasting, average-sized egg waffle. If it was a bit cheaper then this would definitely make a great snack any time you're in the 'hood! read more

I've seen Golden Bubbles at other establishments (T&T and Night it Up! night markets) so it's nice to see them open a permanent location in the GTA! It's a polished no-seat yellow and white-themed takeout shop, but spacious enough to lounge around when waiting. They made my desserts to order; takes about 5 min. I think there are some hit or miss flavours, so your experience can go either way. What I've tried so far: Hits: Icecream - taro, black sesame (Both are extremely flavourful) The Cheesecake Factory Cheesecakes (Worth it. Tried the original and it was delicious. It's a bonus that you don't even have to line up an hour at yorkdale) Lava Cheddar Cheese Waffle (moist interior. Very buttery. A classic sharp cheddar taste. It's exactly how you expect it to taste so make sure to eat it fresh) Worth trying at least once: Taro Mochi Waffle (Each "bubble quadrant" has a piece of mochi inside. It's the first time I've tried something so unique. The taro flavour in the waffle is subtle (probably to counter the icecream sweetness), but the mochi pieces are fun to eat. Nice and gooey texture.) Misses: Matcha Redbean Waffle (The matcha tastes minty) What I appreciate the most about the egg waffles is that they're not dry on the inside. They definitely have the texture down. They're soft, fluffy, and slightly crispy for some of the pieces. Tried golden bubbles at a Yelp event a while back. And i loved it. They do a great job on the hk style egg waffles. Making them crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Heard they were opening a store in Toronto finally, i was so excited for their opening. But i waited til this week to visit to avoid the crowds and lines. With the ice rain going on, there was only one group of people when i arrived at the store. The floor was completely wet. There were multiple caution signs, but still need a little work done. What i ordered: Match mochi waffle The waffle itself was pretty good, met my expectations from my previous encounter with them with the crunchy outside. This is a limited time flavour and im a suckaaa for mochi. So i had to try it. The inside was kinda chewy but sadly all the mochi melted completely and they were mostly just sticking to my fingers. I wish i couldve ate more rather than wiping them all off my fingers lol And there was the matcha bitter after taste which im also a fan of. So i was pretty satisfied. But man, the waffle itself was 7 bucks plus tax. Super overpriced. Can get a meal at that price point. And even with only one group ahead of me, it took soooo long for me to get my waffle. When you think of HK Egg waffle, you think light, airy, delicious. Outer crispness, with some a nice moist interior. Golden bubbles is exemplifies everything that it is not. Overcooked, burnt to crisp egg waffle, filled with nothing more than mediocre ice cream bought from the closest whole sale. Although Ice cream waffles are attractive, for $12 for something below mediocre should be considered stealing. There are many better options in the city. If you're looking for good HK egg waffles, I recommend Eggette Hut. For HK Waffles with better Handmade Ice Cream, Bang Bang Ice cream. read more

I tried to go for the free promo but unfortunately I was just a couple ppl away from getting it. I ordered the matcha signature and it was much Better than what I first got. I was very pleased to see they put more than 1 mochi in each eggette bubble. I saw 2-4 mochi placed this time. I really like how they have a production line, 1 person handling the batter, 1 for refilling the topping, 2 ppl handling the eggette waffle, 1 person handling the detail and the shape of the waffles, 1 person scooping ice cream & last and final 1 for the toppings. They are well organized. When I was waiting in line to get my waffle, a customer dropped their waffle and one the the employees immediately handled the situation by giving them a complimentary replacement. So now for the actual waffle tasting and review. The looks for waffle was just like the picture, so that's a good thing! Now for flavour. I love the ice cream, it wasn't very sweet it had a nice matcha flavour. I wished they had more red bean paste it wasn't enough when there are two scoops of ice cream. The waffle stick was just 1/2 or 1/3? I somewhat feel it's be better if it's a full one. Although there was a huge improvement on the eggette waffle I still wished the waffle had a crispness from beginning to end. I quite enjoyed how each eggette bubble had poppy seeds. Nestled right beside Tiger Sugar at Midland and Finch, Golden Bubbles drew me to it, for it's tasty looking bubble waffles. I tried two different bubble waffles before. The first one if the Takoyaki pizza, and the second is the Taro Mochi waffle. We came while covid precautions are in place, which meant no dining-in, and having to wait outside (based on the amount of customers) for your order. The takoyaki one was surprisingly good. It captured the flavours of takoyaki well, which a small piece of octopus in each little bubble pocket. The taro mochi is great, but a little too sweet for my likely. The perfect compliment in my book is "it's not too sweet", and unfortunately this did not claim that comment. The taro flavour was strong, with small piece of mochi nestled inside each pocket as well. The flavours are strong, and I really appreciate each bubble having the same amount of filling from the next. I will be back to try more of the bubble waffles. I haven't tried any of their beverages, but with their selection, I'm not attracted to it due to other drink options in the area. read more

We've gone many times and get the full size ice cream and waffle cone. Usually a great dessert for walking and talking with friends on a summer night. If you like egg waffles and ice cream then this place is highly recommended!!! There are 2 choices of egg waffles to choose from; sweet and savory. The egg waffles are then made fresh right in front of you and the delicious aroma fills the air. They also offer drinks that would compliment your treat very well. The workers and owner was very helpful with recommendations as it was my first time going so I couldn't decide what to get. I got the Cookie Monster which came with black sesame and vanilla icecream topped with Oreo cookies and smarties. It was a perfect blend; warm fresh egg waffles and creamy ice cream together. Although I recommend eating it fast as the ice cream does make the egg waffle slightly soggy near the end and would eventually leak another a bit from the wrap. This cute little shop has so many unique and different flavours of egg waffles! You can eat it on its own or add scoops of ice cream and toppings, the possibilities are endless!! They even have a chicken and waffles, Mac and cheese, brown sugar ice cream option! I got the taro mochi waffles with taro ice cream, red bean and mochi. The mochi bubble waffle were alittle over done but they are definitely a must try! Overall highly recommend! You can order online through Uber eats, DoorDash, F.O.D, and Fantuan. Jan 2,2019 - it's my first time trying the Taro Mochi Waffle. I really liked it!! The Mochi was yummy. Also my cousin bought the HK milk tea and damn it's yummy!! You get to choose hot or cold and also sugar level!! My friend used to bring me HK Milk Tea when we worked together. But he bought it from another shop. I love desserts that aren't too sweet, and this place is just that! The waffle balances out with sweetness of the ice cream. If you enjoy sweeter desserts, you can always add extra toppings to satisfy your sweet tooth. There are many flavour options to choose from which is awesome. Glad that we chose the smaller size since it was already filling. Great flavours and cute interior to accompany. This would be a great treat to get in the summer if you're looking to add more spice into your regular ice cream fix. read more
Everything about this place is delicious. We ordered so much. Fresh with lots of amazing ingredients ! Definitely eat the bubbles after it's been made and don't wait on it... It does get soggy and just doesn't have the same oomph like a hot pressed one. This is definitely my go to spot! read more
