Matcha tiramisu tart Sakura mont blanc Limited season items
    Rachel L.

Huge fan of the flavour profiles. Matcha, Sakura, light fruity flavour pastries. Drinks with strawberry, coconut, Sakura, genmaicha ,etc. All traditional Japanese flavours unique to most bakeries ive been too in Toronto and done very well. Super friendly customer service, offering suggestions when asked and patient with us. Not cheap, but better value than other new bakeries ive been too that are more expensive and smaller in size. Their flake crust is delicious but a little hard to cut into if you're sharing with others. Would like to visit more often if the parking was easier to access (lots of neighbouring units don't like non patrons of their own stores parking in front of their store). Very few seats - mainly meant for people waiting for their order or just here for a quick snack. Not a spot to hang with friends or bring your laptop.

Been meaning to try out this cute little bakery. They have nice seating inside, but the parking outside is not ideal. Not a lot of spots and right off of highway 7. Asked which ones were the most popular tarts and was suggested the crème brûlée tart and the matcha lava tart which has mochi inside. Both were quite tasty and I really liked the brûlée with the crispy tart. I also got the Sakura matcha latte. The Sakura foam was really good, overall, I enjoyed the baked goods and drink here. Will come back.

NEW Hitotoki Bakery location uptown! Cute little shop with 5 tables, good for solo or small groups of 2-3 ppl. There are maybe 2-3 parking spots in front of the store. Usually customers park further down the strip and walk over. Staff is friendly and always ready to help! 100% get their egg tart (4.50) if this is your first time here. If you are adventurous, the taro tart (6.25) is also delicious, and secretly packed with mochi inside! The tiramisu tart (6.75) is an egg tart topped with a tasty tiramisu cream + cocoa powder. I personally like the egg tart on its own :p Definitely coming back for more egg tarts!

This cute little japanese bakery opened up in unionville earlier this month. Lots of unique desserts to try! Crust of the dessert is super crispy similar to a croissant. Everything i tried was a sweet dessert, wish they would make a butter croissant with their crust because i think it would be super tasty!! atmosphere is small but has a couple of seating. Everyone that works there is also super sweet and friendly! Definitely go and give it a try if you want to try some unique japanese flavoured desserts!!

The pastry was fine, the drinks were just okay. Not the greatest location as parking is terrible right now highway 7. They were out of Sakura jelly/stuff to make the drink I initially ordered and it was only an hour after opening, so that was pretty disappointing. Small seating available, and they seem to sell out fast both times we have went

Back again and incredible again…read more Small tip. You don't need to order on only one phone. As long as you scan the bar code, you can order from any phone. Enter either you own info if paying separately or the same info if one person pays all of it. Lots of new dishes as well as old favourites: Chochin: Tried it. Not a fan. Tastes exactly the way I thought it would. Which is internal organ like but in an unpleasant creamy way. Duck liver raspberry toast: Nice but could be bigger. The raspberry brought an expected nice sweetness to the nice liver taste. A little more raspberry would be nice. Tuskune and egg yolk dip: It's ok but not that big a deal. Cheese momo: Fantastic. The swiss cheese is an excellent pairing to the chicken. Skin-Kawa - Delciious. Crispy. Must have, Hiza (knee cartidlidge): nice and crunchy Beef short rubs boneless: Was enticed due to the tendon part. It was nice but not incredible. Beef tenderloin + Chimichurri: Wife's favourite. We always order several of these. P-toro: Another must repeat. Great pork belly taste. Cherry tomato bacon maki: New and delightful. Bacon wrapped cherry tomatoes provide a delightful burst of tomatoey sweetness wrapped with the unctuousness of bacon. Lamb rib chop: Excellent and tasty. Once again everything was cooked perfectly and the amazing binchotan smoke made everything delicious. Fun fact, they put charcoal in the free water carafes as well.

Good food that hurts your wallet…read more Japanese izakayas are few and few between in Markham - that's why I got excited to see Sumoki pop up! It's not on the main street of Unionville, but its presence on a side road matches the quaint nature of the restaurant. It's not the biggest inside, but it gives off a Japanese aesthetic with the wood trim throughout. We made reservations in advance to avoid long lines, if any (thankfully it wasn't packed the night we went). Orders are made via QR code, which seems to be the norm now. I like it since you don't have to waive down waiters in a low-dimmed izakaya. Their main offering seemed to be skewers. We ordered a bunch of them to try - notably, all of them had a nice smoky fragrance to them (maybe that's why it's called Sumoki). We especially enjoyed the Grilled Chicken Skin. Perfect crunch from the initial bite leading to a slight chew throughout. The seasoning was spot on as well. Other honourable mentions include extremely succulent Chicken Thigh meat, Gizzards and Beef Tongue. You could really taste the meat juices from each skewer since the chefs don't overpower it with seasoning. Other local skewer places tend to have the same seasoning across different cuts of meat, so Sumoki felt like a breath of fresh air amongst the growing market. Coincidentally, it's also the first place I've been to offer Giant Rooster Testicles. Now...don't be alarmed. It sounds exotic and might not be everyone's cup of tea, but this dish is extremely creamy. Give it a try if you have the courage! We came to celebrate my brother's birthday, but quickly realized our bill was racking up really quickly despite a small number of orders. Sumoki is definitely a place where you don't want to come on an empty stomach, since each order is 1 skewer (unlike other local restaurants). Other menu items, from what we saw of neighbouring tables, didn't fare much better in terms of portion sizes. We left quickly to avoid some serious financial damage for the 6 of us, but also quickly drove to another impromptu restaurant to get settle our hunger down. Sumoki definitely isn't cheap. I wouldn't recommend this to be a formal dinner - moreso if you wanted a light snack after dinner. But then again, with these prices, Sumoki tries to make itself bougie without delivering 100% satisfaction so maybe try at your own risk.

A cozy Japanese spot in Unionville for Toronto's in-between weather…read more With Toronto's weather going back and forth lately, it's one of those times where you just want something warm and comforting. Miki Sushi feels like the kind of place you can casually stop by and settle into a simple, satisfying meal. Spicy Seafood Udon This is exactly what suits the weather right now. Loaded with shrimp, mussels, scallops, mushrooms, and other toppings, the broth has a Korean-style spicy kick that's both warming and comforting. Salmon Pressed Sushi Generously sauced and rich in flavor, each piece feels indulgent but easy to enjoy in one bite. BBQ Ika (Grilled Squid) Despite the chili on top, it's only mildly spicy. The squid is tender with a slight chew, served with bean sprouts and vegetables, and finished with a savory glaze. It comes out on a hot plate, so just be a little careful. Overall, it's a relaxed, comforting spot that works perfectly for days when you just want something warm without overthinking it

Master Tako is in this aisle, on the right. - Debit and cash are acceptable payment methods. - The mentaiko takoyaki tends to sell out quickly. I recently visited Master Tako thanks to a Yelp elite experience. I've been back for more. I tend to steer away from coming to New Kennedy Square at the height of lunch or dinner. It's busy here and parking can be a challenge. I'm a newbie visiting the food court. I typically visit eateries that are separate from the indoor mall part itself. This eatery is next to the food court. If you walk all the way to the back of the food court and hang a right, Master Tako is in this aisle, on the right. I liked all the graphics that this place curated in its store, and on all its packaging and marketing materials. It had lots of octopuses everywhere, from plushies, to the main one hanging from the ceiling with the name of the business. The ordering process is straightforward. The menu is on the right, on the wall. You look at each poster representing a different takoyaki flavour with a picture. Under the poster is the price for six pieces. If you want that flavour, you tear a sheet off the pad that indicates the flavour. You then go to the counter and hand it over to a staff member. Staff are extremely nice. They are patient, too. I love the curry cheese lava takoyaki. This place has sodas. This place only accepts debit and cash. Thank goodness I came with cash and a debit card. It typically takes ten minutes to make the takoyaki. It may take longer if the demand is high. I took photos as I waited. There is seating along the left wall if you'd like to dine in. Otherwise, if it's busy, you always have the food court as a backup. The woman asked if I wanted my drink now or with my takoyaki. It was ready. I went ahead and grabbed it from her. It came with a paper straw. My white peach soda was excellent. It was fizzy and slightly sweet. The peach flavour was yummy. I'd get it again. The nice woman let me know that my order was ready. You get a receipt with your order number and it's also displayed above the only screen in the eatery. She asked me if I was going to dine in or do takeout. It was the latter for me, as I was working from home. I got to take a few photos of my takoyaki. She took it back and packed it into a cool octopus-themed box. I love Japanese curry. Pair that awesome sauce with cheese and takoyaki, and it's heavenly! All takoyaki balls were still warm. The curry sauce was so good that I didn't leave any of it behind. The cheese was generous and I had a cheese pull with every takoyaki ball. The octopus chunks were generous. The size of each ball was huge compared to what I have seen and had at other eateries. The takoyaki was delicious. I've now had the curry cheese lava takoyaki twice. I should branch out and try another flavour, but I crave the curry sauce with the cheese and takoyaki. The mentaiko takoyaki had already sold out by the time I got here. This store opens at noon most days, except for Mondays and Tuesdays. I got here an hour after its opening. If you want the mentaiko takoyaki, you need to be here at noon sharp. I'm glad that this eatery is close to my home. I'll be back for more! (106)

The mentaiko udon was yummy, but the deep fried Mochi was what caught our attention - we've never seen or had anything similar before elsewhere and we really enjoyed it - not too sweet or overly sticky, but still kept the texture of Mochi! While the food was fresh and tasty, we wouldn't say it was the best Izakaya we've had, however it wasn't disappointing especially for what's in the area. Went on a Friday night and it was fully booked. We had no reservation so they made space for us at the sushi bar. They assumed we wanted water whereas other patrons had a choice, and they didn't come by to fill our glasses throughout the meal. They have sushi bar seats, regular seats, and private rooms for larger groups. Felt clean and classy inside - was very comfortable without feeling too casual or too sophistcated - overall good atmosphere for a nicer meal with close friends/family.

My timing to drop by Kiu after an afternoon matinee at Cineplex was also messed up. Kiu was always closed after the movie was over. All those weird scheduling issues went away when I attended a Yelp event last December. We got to enjoy more traditional Japanese offerings. Kiu wanted a bit of a change from being known as the ramen place. This eatery is on the second floor with Cineplex, GoodLife Fitness, and more. You can get here by escalator or elevator. The Yelp event had the best sashimi. I sampled scallops, shrimp, and deep-fried shrimp heads. I also enjoyed proteins. They included New Zealand lamb, amazu chicken, and calamari. This eatery also had sushi. The torched sushi was especially excellent. I still haven't had ramen here. Someday, I will! Recently, during Lunar New Year, I was invited to my friend's place for dinner. I brought a dish. She brought a Kiu platter. It had something like thirty pieces of sashimi. It was chef's choice with the varieties. Everything was exceptionally fresh and yummy. I'm drooling reminiscing about how good the sashimi was. It was nice to know that you can still get takeout from this restaurant. I got the impression that the owners wanted more folks to enjoy the experience at their eatery. It was still special devouring amazing sashimi at my friend's place. There are individual gender-neutral washroom stalls in this eatery. Each one was wheelchair-accessible. I appreciated the mouthwash and toothpicks in the one that I used. It was clean and felt fancy. It's a wonderful restaurant. There are items at various prices to suit your budget. I hope to get ramen one of these days, but I bet that I'll want the sushi and sashimi again! (42)
