They are more of asian pastries with flavors like black sesame latte, hojicha terrine. The black sesame latte needed more black sesame paste to bring out the flavor, and the hojicha was more on the bittersweet side with a slight orange peel aftertaste. Cold or not, I had to try the limited-time HK Milk Tea Bingsu from Duo and it did not disappoint Housemade bingsu, HK milk tea sauce, mini pineapple bun, milk tea basque cheesecake, vanilla honey ice cream, and the perfect cookie crumble crunch. This time, I visited with a friend and we indulged in the flaky, buttery perfection of the hazelnut banane, sufficiently garlicky garlic bread, and the espresso cookie which packed a nice bitter kick (though I think they've since retired it from their menu). Prices lean towards the steep side, and finding a seat can be difficult. Once the place fills up, the ambiance quickly shifts from cozy to bustling. Service can dawdle, especially with drinks, but the staff is attentive and knowledgeable. Their display is always pristine, and prices are transparent. Cheese flan: It was more like a bold, buttery and dense NY Cheesecake compared to Japanese/French delicate one. Filled with coconut, cranberries, candied orange, and pineapple. From the freshly-baked, flakiest croissants and danishes I've ever seen in the suburbs, to the beautifully crafted pastries, and to the entire ambiance of the cafe, I loved my experience here! Beautiful cafe with flaky croissants Food: Arrived on a weekday morning and it wasn't too busy, but the array of pastries and sandwiches was beautifully displayed and they all looked delicious. I ended up getting the almond chocolate croissant, which was buttery and flaky, crumbling with each and every bite. The chocolate wasn't too sweet, and balanced everything very well. Person who got my cake seemed knowledgable and everything went smoothly for pick up. The ice cream cake we got was the pistache. Appearance was perfect, really nice design. The pistachio ice cream was my favorite part - great flavor. The raspberry jam and sorbet added a nice fruit freshness against the nutty pistachio. There was a crunchy corn flake strawberry layer to add some nice texture against the ice cream. Outside has a pistachio white chocolate layer which was alright. I went to this Duo cafe, sister of duo patisserie and boy am I glad I did. I picked up 4 pastries, 2 croissants (they were so flaky and delicious), 1 chocolate book (also flaky and decadent) and 1 danish (sweet and flavourful). I didn't like that they just bagged it and didn't put into a box like my preferred way for pastries. I asked for a box and they said minimum 8 pieces. I was not pleased but it is what it is. (I didn't need 8 pastries at the time). Either way the quality and deliciousness of the ones I got more than made up for it. I will be back and I do recommend this place. On a side note, make sure you check their hours of operation as they close suddenly or are not open certain days. The cafe is nicely renovated but they are too understaffed for any proper cleaning. On multiple occasions, I've came to find empty tables with mountains of dishes and crumbs all over seats - worse than a food court. On weekends, they even default to paper plates and even then, the garbage station is full with paper plates overflowing. One time I came on a weekday when it wasn't too busy. I ordered a latte expecting a latte art like other seated customers and tipping as such. With no prior notice, they served it in a to-go cup, lid on, no art, after a 15min wait, claiming they have no more clean cups - absolutely pathetic. Their food is top notch, regardless of what you order, but for those prices, I also pay for the cafe experience. I would recommend this to be a take out only establishment and advise all customers to refrain from dining in, unless a dirty Timmies is your jam. read more

This is one of my favourite cafés uptown! They have amazing craftsmanship and quality pastries. I love that this spot has a lot of savoury and sweet options including traditional French pastries and those with an Asian twist. You'll find classic pastries like croissants and tarts and some stand outs are the chestnut tart and mushroom bechamel focaccia. They also have gourmet ice cream cakes which are beautiful with balanced flavours which are not too sweet. The space is bright and spacious. You first get in line to order along the display of fresh pastries. After you order, pay, and you let staff know if it's for here or to go. If you're dining it, they'll provide you with some paper plates. Self serve sugar, milk, napkins, etc. and clean up your own space when you leave. read more

I came around 1pm on a Saturday and they were still well stocked. Just the black sesame cookie I wanted to try was sold out =((( and they only had one chocolate chip cookie left. So come early if you want cookies! I got a vanilla custard pastry, almond croissant and chocolate chip cookie. The vanilla custard pastry was the best out of all the items I tried. The pastry was perfectly buttery and flakey. Exactly what you'd want from a French pastry. The custard villing wasn't too sweet and paired just right with the pastry. The almond croissant was the same flakey buttery texture. There wasn't very much almond paste filling, as you can see in the picture. Still tasted good though! The chocolate chip cookie was very rich. The chocolate chips are very decadant. The actual cookie dough was just okay but the texture was good. Crispy outer edges and soft centre. I made sure to warm mine up before consuming. =P I probably wouldn't get this again though. Not that it was bad, I just am picky with my chocolate chip cookies lol. I was on a mission to buy croissants from Duo Patisserie. But alas, they were out, so I headed over to Duo Cafe and they were closed (Tuesday). So the following day, I made a bee-line for Duo Cafe when they were open. This place is incredible. It's so much more spacious and modern than Duo Patisserie. I almost feel like Duo Cafe is a hidden gem because they have everything that Duo Patisserie has and when I came in around noon, just about everything was available. The croissants here are just as good as the ones at Duo Patisserie. I'm looking forward to making Duo Cafe my go-to place for croissants. read more

Location/Service This place is located near the intersection of 16th and Leslie. It's right beside the gas station, not within the same plaza with other restaurants. Limited parking around - but it seems like cars come and go pretty quickly. Really like their interior design layout - with the use of white colours and warm lightning. There's a few seating options available - definitely a great spot to catch up and do some work. Staff were friendly and they have enough staff to serve each individual first coming in, a little bit more tailored and personalized. Orders were pretty quick as well. Food I came here during lunch and to my surprise, a lot of their baked goods were already gone! I ended up getting a Salmon Sandwich ($15.00) and a London Fog Latte. You can ask for it to warm up if you like. The salmon itself was fresh and it's smoked. I like how it combines with arugula and avocado as a complementary match. The brioche bun is soft, but not overly buttery. The London Fog was great - pretty consistent - although I find it a little too small in size for its price (~$5). Overall I'm glad Duo has opened up another location. I always liked their sweets and tarts - hopefully I can try some next time! read more

If you were a fan of Duo Patisserie, you won't believe how much fun you'll have here looking at all the pastry and dessert choices. In addition to having some of their regular desserts, pastries, and packaged products, they have also added ice cream cakes, take-home tubs of ice cream, soft serve, sandwiches, and lots of new pastries. The spread is magnificent! I tried the Mushroom Focaccia, Black Sesame Cookie, Ham & Cheese pastry and Pear Danish. Each one was carefully crafted and flavourful. I went with a friend and we both tried their cookies and they are GLORIOUS. Super soft, gooey and large. If you're a cookie fan, do try that out! I've also had one of their ice cream cakes for my birthday, and it was so well-made and intricately crafted. It was the one with Earl Grey ice cream and raspberry jam. Although their products are a bit pricey, it's worth every penny when you realize how much work has gone into making it! Must try! read more

I found it very delicious and really enjoyed it! The cafe staff are also pretty friendly and the cafe itself has a really nice aesthetic to it. Finally visited this place and it's awesome! However, the most popular items sell out first thing in the morning. If you get there by 12pm or even 11am, chances are there won't be any restock throughout the day? and got to settle for something else. Even their soup was done by 12:45 pm. Unless you pre-orders your favourite items 24 hours in advance, which by the way is manually done over the phone, be ready to choose something. Also this location does not carry small cakes. I noticed they do not clean the tables after patrons are done so got to clean it yourself, even after I asked them if they could clean it (Mayhe they didn't understood what I said with my mask on). Being the cafe is small wth just 7-8 tables for the patrons and with peope taking their sweet time and not in a hurry to leave, the chance for a table during their most popular times is slim and the wait for can be long...The bakery does get sold out before it's closing time read more

Overall 3.5. A nice cafe in Markham, bright interior with a wide expansive collection of pastries, both sweet and savoury. They also serve sandwiches and focaccia as well. Ice cream cakes and flutes if you want a cake vibe. Homemade jams and biscuits also an option, with soft serve too! In terms of pastries, I would give it overall 4/5. I think its one of the better croissanteries in the area. Nice size for the price. Good amount of butteriness and mild in flavour. Crisp exterior with a soft and less dense laminated dough. Ice cream cakes are unique in terms of flavour and well crafted. Coffee is very subtle and mild, quite milky, so not my favourite as i prefer one that's more strong in flavour if i'm having a milk coffee. Black sesame latte was nice. Use of black sesame was evident and it is freshly ground give it was quite grainy. I opted for no sugar, so the black sesame was more forward, but I can see how it will enhance the flavouring if I opted for the original (which is added condensed milk). read more

I go here for their ice cream cakes and sandwiches. I arrived around 1:00pm on a Wednesday the first time I went and there was only one ice cream cake left (within ~2 weeks of them opening). The second time, I was there a few minutes before they opened and there were already other people waiting. People were picking up cakes as if they were free or something (someone legit bought 3 at 8:00am) and by the time it was my turn (5th), there were only 2 Averys left (earl grey). Felt like a battle to secure an ice cream cake but the next time I went (Saturday around 12pm), there were still a bunch of cakes left. I can't seem to remember what exactly is in Avery ($58.00) other than earl grey. Might be earl grey and raspberry. All I know is that it's everything I could ever want. The earl grey is strong and the cake isn't very sweet, perfect for my aging taste buds. You bite into it and are surprised by this crunchy part. Strong tea flavour hits your tongue and then you get a bit of tartness from the raspberry (?). It reminds me of this collab cornetto that I absolutely love but cannot get anymore so this makes my life. The pistachio and raspberry ice cream cake is bomb as well. Really love how their ice cream cakes aren't very sweet. Unfortunately, that's all the ice cream cakes I've had from them :( I've gotten their duck sandwich ($15) a million times now and yes, it is pricey but compared to all the other sandwiches I've had around that price range, this is the best by far. They also heat it up for you which I really think completes the sandwich. I got one on a busy Saturday and it wasn't heated up all the way and there's definitely a noticeable difference. Their duck sandwich ($15) is another favourite of mine and I've gotten it a million times now. It's pricey but if I compare this to all other sandwiches I've had around this price range, this is by far the best one. You can have them heat up the sandwiches which I think really elevates it. The last time I got it, it was on a busy Saturday and even though they had "heated" it, the inside was still cold. Big difference. Their pastries are a hit or miss for me. Soft serve is not bad (I had matcha). Their focaccias are pretty good. It's shaped like a pizza with a large portion of it being the crust and a small area in the centre for the toppings. I love Duo Patisserie. It's easily one of my favourite patisseries in the GTA. Thus when I heard that Duo Cafe was opening up within minutes of where I live, I was super excited. Duo Cafe is a bigger space than that occupied by the Patisserie, with a larger kitchen and more seating than Duo Patisserie (although granted during recent lockdowns indoor dining areas have been closed). The cafe has a very clean and modern aesthetic, where (hopefully soon) individuals can enjoy the space, savouring their delicious and beautiful viennoiserie or sandwiches with one of Duo's lattes. Duo's highly successful ice cream cake creations will be uniquely offered at this newer location. The ice cream cakes (which retail at $52) have the same flavour profiles as some of the existing cake offerings such as the Garden and Mona. Their consistently fresh and delicious viennoiserie ($3.50-$4.50), as well as sandwiches ($10-$15), quiches ($9.25), cookies ($4.50!!), Japanese style mini cheesecake ($4), cafe drinks, and soft serve are also included among the menu items. Individual and multi-serving mousse cakes available at Duo Patisserie will not be sold at Duo Cafe. During opening week, Duo Cafe is open at 8am and stays open until sold out. As I've learned from my visits to Duo Patisserie, come early (or pre-order when this becomes an option) to avoid disappointment as many items sell out quickly. read more

Checked out the grand opening of this cute local cafe at Leslie and 16th Ave on a Saturday afternoon. There was a line up to get in but it moved pretty quick. This shop compared to Duo Patisserie has more variety besides their famous croissants and pastries. They also sell sandwiches, soft serve ice cream (mango), ice cream cakes, jam like Strawberry Lychee and boxes of chocolate. The decor is very pretty. I love the neutral palette and it looked spotless. We ordered the Chai Latte, London Fog, Mango soft serve in a cup and a couple of the pastries which we loved (Duo cheese and Pecan Breton). The Chai was really good. It had just the right amount of sweetness. I only wished the hot drinks were hotter. I like my drinks extra hot. Located in Markham This cute cafe is a branch of Duo Patisserie specializing in patisseries with a Japanese and French twist. We love going to the main Patisserie, and when we heard of the cafe opening we had to go! We ordered a Chocolate Chip Cookie, Prosciutto Sandwich and Smoked Chicken Tomato Focaccia. The chocolate chip cookie was huge! It was filled with generous amounts of chocolate chips and was super soft. The cookie was not too sweet as they used dark chocolate chips. The Prosciutto Sandwich was absolutely delicious! We loved how flavourful the whole sandwich was and how the bread was super soft. They stuffed the sandwich with tomatoes, arugula, pesto, prosciutto, and bocconcini, with a focaccia bread. We appreciated the balance of the salty deli meat with the fresh vegetables. The Smoked Chicken Focaccia had a soft outside and was also super tasty! The flavours mixed well together and we loved sharing this as a snack. First timer here. I tried a canelé. I've missed going to Nadege for mini canelé. These ones are big for me and super crunchy on the outside and a bit too moist on the inside fo rme. Not sure if it's this batch or they are consistently like this. Delicious of course! Had a chestnut pastry. I'm one of those Asians that love chestnut paste, mont blanc, be it a tart or cake format. This one the textures didn't go with me. Pastry was fine but the texture of the chesnut cream (texture of slightly more soft whipped cream) didn't do it for me. The pastry was good. Buttery. Duo is the perfect spot for a chat with friends or getting some paperwork done away from home. The seating area is quite comfortable and spacious enough for satisfactory amount of distancing. As a boon, there are ample amounts of electrical plugs available at most tables, including built-in USB ports. One major drawback is that WiFi is not available at the café, which means you will need to provide your own via cellular data. During my stay, I had the Simply Mango White tea - in short, it was delicious! The tea features a very fragrant mango flavour while maintaining bold notes of White tea. I went here to purchase a basque cheesecake today at 2:22 pm. The three staff members working here today (2 Asian girls and 1 Asian guy) stood there the whole time talking while I was waiting to be served. They clearly know I am waiting to be served but instead chose to ignore me and continue chatting. I think the owner needs to re-train their staff properly. When I heard the news that Duo was opening their second location finally, I counted down the days to their opening and knew I had to check it out! Even before they announced their second store, I would constantly be checking their Instagram posts for the rare ice cream cake posts (no shame whatsoever!) Ever since this new location opened, it has been my go-to store every time I had to to purchase a birthday or celebration cake! This is definitely gonna be a 5-star review based on multiple visits already. I haven't tried everything yet but I've tried a good variety of their items and honestly have nothing bad to say about anything. Their sandwiches are delicious! All their sandwiches (except the smoked salmon) is made with fresh in house focaccia, and each sandwich is carefully created with flavours and ingredients that blend together perfectly. They have all their ice cream cakes available at this location, along with separate pints of different flavours available. However, they dont accept pre-orders so everything is first come first serve. They regularly change their soft serve flavours as well so theres always something new to look forward to! My absolute favourite ice cream cakes so far are the Lemon Meringue and the Mont Blanc, but the Soleil also comes close! Also the Avery as well....honestly theyre all amazing. The only one that I won't go for again is the Yuco, as the coconut entirely over powers the yuzu. Definitely come check it out! They also have a lot more seating available compared to the Patisserie location, so that's another bonus! read more
