This place missed the mark for us, though it's clear to see it's quite a popular spot in the neighborhood. The iced coffee had a strange unwashed cup smell to it, perhaps from dishwashers that needed a clean-out. Flavorwise, it was watered down and bland. The speciality is the marvellous meringue, which for us was less than marvellous. A good taste, but super light, like eating air. Save the inflated price and make something similar at home with egg whites and sugar (thats it!) Staff were rushed and brusque. The spot is cute, though!
Le Magnifique is a meringue filled with praline whipped cream that's coated with caramelized almonds and hazelnuts. This was so so good! It's sweet and melts in your mouth! The mini meringues are $3.50 each! The staff were super friendly when I asked which was the most popular flavours! The decor was very nice and had place to sit and eat!
I noticed this place on a recent visit to Montreal and was excited to find out they opened up in Toronto. So ordered the namesake item (marvelous) and brioche with chocolate chip for delivery. Unfortunately the benchmark item I use to determine a bakery croissant wasn't available. Marvelous is decent with a light texture and good taste. Will probably order it again. Brioche didn't fare well. Very bland and not rich in taste something unexpected from a brioche imo
Well I got a GC for Xmas for this place and all the reviews I read said you must try their meringue dessert so for $24.50 you can get a 6 pack sampler box. That and their brioche is good. I ordered 1 plain as they were out of raisin. Anyways the meringues did not disappoint if you like crunchy meringue and soft mousse, you'll love these almost melt in your mouth slightly crunchy delights. I would definitely recommend! Though not cheap!
Happened to be going past thru this corner for TIFF & their beautiful food display and cafe decor caught my eye. So happy for my full stop because their mini sandwiches (bunwich?) are absolutely delightfully delicious! I went for their smoked salmon, chicken curry and goat cheese minis and ALL were great (I favoured the 1st two). And when we made our return after our movie, we went for the pair of their ultra light dessert of mini cream covered meringues. What a pleasant unplanned treat! I still think about those mini sandwiches... so it's guaranteed I'll return to one of their locales ( find me on Instagram via @aida.loves )
We were passing by when my husband saw the sandwiches from the large windows and wanted to grab a late lunch. He got the chicken curry sandwich, which he said was a flavourful fusion with the tomato. It was a prominent but not overwhelming curry, with a very creamy texture. Our daughter picked out the colourful merveilleux. This was our first time trying these French cakes, and I originally thought they were truffles. They were light and flavourful. The cafe is beautiful, very modern and chic decor, the enormous chandelier. Service was prompt and friendly. It's a shame they don't have free wifi, it would be a lovely place to grab lunch while working.

Ordered a mini smoked salmon and dill cream sandwhich and a coffee merveilleux (sp?) which turned out to be a tower of crispy outside and soft inside meringue with crunchy toppings. Logistics: - indoor seating only; if you plan to eat here perhaps set your bag on your table before ordering to save a spot in the busy cafe! - limited street parking nearby but very transit accessible - vegetarian options; not sure if meringue is GF or not
I've walked past this place many times, and today I went in for my lunch break. There are a number of sandwich options all on the same bread and cut in half. I got the smoked salmon sandwich, which came on a really soft, slightly sweet milk bun with herbed cream cheese, cucumbers, and smoked salmon inside it was a little bit on the pricier, your side for what it was but still a really delicious sandwich overall. I was pleasantly surprised with how soft and delicious the bun was. The inside had their pastries and sandwiches on display with some tables and seats around the restaurant and the staff was nice.

I generally don't do coffee shops, but may have to start a new habit. I popped in one blustery cold morning and had a flat white with one of their chocolate chip brioche buns. It was perfect. Not too sweet! Just enough chocolate that had the bitter edge to it. The service will great, and the ambiance was calm and elegant. Definitely will be going back again. read more
Yummy delicious pastries in a beautiful building. All of the windows were perfect for people watching as we drank our coffee and started our day. Service was quick and friendly and it looks like a great place to get some work done in a quiet environment. read more
Lovely little corner coffee shop! It's great seeing all the baked goods sitting out. Got a chocolate brioche bun, and my gf got a crossaint. Very delicious sweet treat. Service was great and sitting by the window is good people watching lol. Id definitely come back here and sit a while. read more

The desserts are tooooo good . The sandwich is okay (for me) lol . The desserts are super fresh , melts jn your mouth . There is a big variety so choose . I got the coffee flavour, with a coffee . The sitting area is not too big but it doesn't small, very clean and vibrant atmosphere. read more

Ordered the chocolate and raisin brioche to go. Very packed on a cold Sunday afternoon. The chocolate was dark I believe and was not too sweet. The brioche was fluffy as well and not overly buttery. read more

I've been walking past this place since they opened a few years ago and I finally decided to try some of their pastries. Unfortunately it was hugely underwhelming. The croissant seemed like it had been sitting for hours and the lamination was not the best. It reminded me of Costco croissants. It's often very busy and there's no room for sitting. The cashier was very quick and not the most friendly. I might try some of their other desserts but probably not anytime soon. read more
We saw this shop while walking to the art museum and just had to stop for pastries! We got the chocolate cramique and the Vergeoise waffle. The paper thin waffle was filled with melt-in-your-mouth brown sugar butter rum. We loved how the pastries and decor were elegant and upscale. The ambiance feels upscale but also casual; it adds to the whole experience! I didn't know there were only three locations in existence but since we were nearby, we had to try it out. I believe we got the incroyable to try out as well and it's light, fluffy, airy, sweet but not too sweet. You'd think this would be so dense but it was quite the opposite. I could see myself eating a couple of these without any fatigue from the sweetness. I wish we tried the other ones! It's amazing that even the turkey sandwich was good too. The bun was similar to the chinese ham and egg bun but much better. The bun was also airy and light which combined with the turkey and other fillings, made each bite so satisfying. read more
The brioche is okay. I prefer the raisin bread brioche over the plain one. I think it doesn't justify the $6.80 price. The chocolate bread is just so-so. I have not tried anything else but the two and I wouldn't buy those 2 things if I decide to try it again. read more
Friendly service but selection is very limited and, when we visited on Sun evening, they only had some brooches, chocolate bread, and merengue left. We got a slice of chocolate bread (huge) and cherry merengue (tiny), both were ok. read more
My sister and I were in area getting ready for a spin class but I was a bit hungry so we stopped by here for a quick bite. The broiche sandwich I got was pretty pricey, I paid more than $11 for the half sandwich. While I did think the sandwich was tasty, I cannot justify for the price since the sandwich was mostly bread. I have walked by here many times and wanted to try this place out and am content I can check this off on my to try list. The atmosphere here is very bright and clean, I saw lots of people there studying/working on their laptops. read more

From the moment you enter the café, the elegant ambiance and decoration attracts your attention. This french café offers good variety of brioche, croissants, crampique, waffles, cakes, meringues and other pastries. We ordered "Chocolate Cramique", "Pain au chocolat" and "chocolate pudding cake" and paired them with cappuccino, café americano and tea. My favorite was Pain au Chocolat and we didn't like the pudding cake. read more
We stomped upon this store after dinner one day and decided to try it out since it was still busy with a few customers. We tried their meringue and coffee waffle thinking that it will be really good since they are on the more pricy side. We were pretty disappointed by both, the coffee waffle had no crunch to it, it tasted like soggy cardboard. The meringue was super sweet, which is not something we are used to. The service was okay here, we have to waved down the employee when we wanted to order. The place look nice from the outside but it was alright when we walked in. I might move to Toronto just to access to this phenomenal establishment. I can't say enough good things about these decadent treats and the overall ambiance of the shop. I visited in a weekend and the line was nearly out the door but moved quite fast. I felt a bit rushed in making my selection but, no worry, I returned the next morning to make sure I could indulge in everything that piqued my interest. The raisin brioche and chocolate croissant were my favorites, but I don't hesitate in saying that everything they touch is, indeed, marvelous. (See what I did there?) read more
A high-end bakery shop on queen W. It also has sandwiches - similar to what you'd find at high tea. I got a mini le mervilleux (hazelnut), a butter croissant, and a raisin brioche. Tbh, I thought the brioche was a bit dry. The croissant was flaky, soft and buttery with a hint of sweetness. I didn't know what to expect with the le merveilleux but it blew my mind! The hazelnut flavour was nutty (think Ferrero Rocher) but without the overwhelming sweetness. The fluffiness was unexpected and that crust base gave the perfect contrasting texture read more
As a French person living in Toronto, I tend to try French spots around the city and especially during epiphany and the Galette des rois. The flemish Galette des rois was truly a first for me and amazing. The brioche filled with a cream with taste of rum and generously powdered with icing sugar! This was definitely a surprise and looking forward to try many more goodies from this bakery. This place is super super busy on weekends but worth checking out. read more

As we were heading to our lunch destination, we passed by this beautiful bakery. The workers were super friendly and patient. We were getting ready for our long flight and asked their opinion on whether I should purchase the meringue. However, they didn't recommend that, and I appreciate their honest opinion. We bought some kind of chocolate bun, that contained dark chocolate ($3.8). And, oh my goodness, it's yummy. It has the right amount of sweetness to it. There was a good amount of seating but fills up fast. My mom also got a vanilla latte (around $6). She said it had more coffee than vanilla. Overall, great experience, and would pass by again when I'm in the area! read more

Located on Queen Street is a lovely patisserie that has croissants, brioche, sandwiches, and merveilleux (Belgian meringue cake). They also have locations in Europe, Japan, and New York. Aside from pastries and sandwiches, they also have drinks to go with your pastries or sandwich. Such as coffee, tea, bottle of water. I came here specifically for their merveilleux. Light, creamy dessert. I was lucky to get a table on a busy weekend afternoon. I got a merveilleux and a vanilla latte for dine-in, and a box of merveilleux to bring home. Le Merveilleux: Meringue, chocolate whipped cream coated with shavings of dark chocolate. I wish I got more of these because 1 simply isn't enough! L'Impensable: Meringue, coffee whipped cream, coated with crystallized meringue. Everybody loves coffee, right? Le Magnifique: Meringue, praline whipped cream, coated with crushed caramelized almonds and hazelnuts. I love hazelnuts so, I had to get a lot of these. L'Excentrique: Meringue, cherry whipped cream, coated with crystallized meringue. If you love cherry, this is your jam. If I were to rank my most favorite to "least" favorite (they're all so good), it would be hard but here it goes anyway: #1 Le Merveilleux (chocolate) #2 Le Magnifique (hazelnut) #3 L'Impensable (coffee) #4 L'Excentrique (cherry) If you're planning to bring a box of these home, just know that they are very delicate. A small bump on the road could make them topple over. Or in my case, I was very careful not to bump them all the way to the plane but some woman decided to put her purse on top of my my box of merveilleux while I was in the plane bathroom. Trust me, I let her have it (not my beautiful meringue cakes)! The space is rather tiny so, my advice is go as soon as they open at 9am or very late afternoon. They seem to be the busiest after lunch time until 3pm. read more
Delicious patisserie from France. I tried their butter croissant which was good (but no Emmer). The star of the show is definitely their Merveilleux. I stopped by the shop randomly and didn't know what it was beforehand. How can you walk past this pastry display and not get something? The cake is so creamy, light and airy. It just dissolves in your mouth. Definitely recommend as gifts or for parties! read more
Authentic French bakery known for their Merveilleux (traditional cake from Northern France using light meringue and whipped cream). I highly recommend the coffee flavour Merveilleux. The bitter coffee balances the sweetness of the meringue. The Vergeoise waffle is similar to a Stroopwafel but richer and less sweet. Do not make the mistake of heating it up, as it'll cause the butter to leak inside. Highly recommend it if you want to try some unique French treats. read more
Busy shop we had to stop in when walking past. Service was speedy and seating is available but it is loud and crowded inside. Tried the sugar bread and a coffee flavored treat both were good. The signage for a lot of items was confusing and stuff were very rushed to serve. Packaging was very cute for the chocolates. read more

Tried marvelous by Fred with a friend during our trip to Toronto! Loved that they opened early. Their interior was decorated like a standard cafe and the seats were pretty comfy. We got to choose our seats. Our food came out relatively fast even though we went in when they first opened. I got a tuna fish sandwich and an oat milk latte. The oat milk latte was good but nothing special. The tuna fish sandwich, same thing it was decent but not great. The bread was very fluffy which I liked. We also got the croissant to share which was a little bit burnt on top. It was flaky but again nothing special. read more
We were staying in Toronto and happened upon this adorable place while walking down the street. I think the pastries in the windows serve as a natural advertisement. It's only been a day and a half in Toronto, and we've already visited this place twice! What a great gem! We loved the pastries at Marvelous. The croissants were baked to perfection! Flaky, crunchy goodness in every bite. Probably the best croissants we've ever had. Cappuccino was also very smooth. Two croissants and two drinks came out to be around $17 CAD. A little bit pricier than a quick stop at a Tim Horton's but definitely worth it. Would highly recommend on your daily commute or for a quick snack!! read more

A must if you're ever in DT Toronto. I had to come back here so I can bring back some merveilleux for my flight home. While there, I also tried their melted sugar and chocolate chip brioches, and a few sandwiches (salmon, tuna, ham). The brioche is light and fluffy just like their merveilleux. I wish a shop would open up in San Diego because there's none on the West Coast. Even my husband, who said he's not a meringue person, enjoyed these melt in your mouth treats. The cafe itself is airy and light with French decor. Seats are comfy and constant influx of patrons. Staff is friendly and patient. read more
