Came in on a Saturday morning for a custard pineapple bun. The bun portion was a bit dry and a bit flat. While the custard was nicely sweetened, there wasn't much of it. You have to get through to nearly 45% of the bun to get to the custard. I think I'm used to the better value that you can get at bakeries in less central locations. read more

A convenient bakery on Yonge Street. While shopping along ibake, we were excited to see a Chinese bakery, especially one that was open so late. We stopped by a couple times while in Toronto and while we were impressed initially, realized there were much better elsewhere. I nabbed the last pineapple bun with butter since it seemed highly coveted, as well as a normal pineapple bun. The pineapple bun has great flavor but tended to be a little dry. The butter helped a lot, but the bun without butter lacked the moisture - although maybe it was because we didn't buy it fresh in the morning? The trend with the pineapple bun does seem to be that the bread itself is a little dry but the ones with fillings, such as chasiu or butter, gives it the moisture it needs. The egg tarts were standard. Not bad but nothing special - and not something I would come back for. I also got a wife pastry that was not very good. Price wise, it's definitely a little steep. But it may be worth to not having to drive in poor weather to get to Markham or Richmond Hill. I do recommend coming in the morning while the pastries and buns are still fresh - it does seem to be better during the day versus at night. read more

I was craving for dessert after a late dinner around that area, and we stumbled into this bakery store thinking that we could get some cheesecake. However when we got into the the store, I was surprised by how big of the selection it has in in terms of cakes, shortcakes and pastries. They also had egg tarts and some traditional Chinese pastries, which was nice to see. After a quick glance, I decided to get a coconut bun, a strawberry shortcake and a tiramisu to go. After tasting the tiramisu at home, I was some what disappointed that it was not a real tiramisu. It was a sponge cake covered by chocolate powder. It would be nice if it was a real one but because it was only $4.99, I should have figured that it wasn't a real one but It was still tasty. The strawberry shortcake was pretty good, however, there was a lot of whip cream and also on the sweeter side. Overall, it was a decent place for some reasonable price pastry, but if you are looking for actual dessert, it's better to go somewhere else. read more

Small Chinese bakery that also serves Ed's ice cream and La Rocca cakes, as well as their own home made cakes. Tea and coffee drinks available as well. They bake their goods in house. Grab a tray, liner and tongs at the front, load up your tray and take to the cashier where the friendly staff will put them in individual see through plastic bags then in a bigger regular plastic bag. Everything looks good. You can sample the ice cream; I decided on a scoop of the Cherry Bond Espresso in a cup YUM! Their pork sandwiches are a steal at $3.99! Two slices of pork on a soft, sweet bun with tomato and lettuce DELISH! Took an egg custard (good filling but the crust was a little chewy) and a sesame ball with red bean paste to go (outer mochi part tasted good but was missing that slight crispness from being deep fried, filling tasted off). ** Review for the ice cream ** Ed's Real Scoop is my favourite ice cream/gelato store in Toronto, so when I found out that I can get my dessert fix here and doesn't have to go all the way downtown I couldn't wait to come try it. However, I was left disappointed and dissatisfied. First of all, their flavours were very limited here, only about 10 choices available. I tried a couple and they were all crazy sweet, so I settled for my go to Pistachio flavour. I was shocked when I found out that only the Large size allowed 2 scoops and the Medium, which is what I usually get, was one scoop for $4.80 and only came in a cup. That's such a rip off considering you get much more ice cream at the Ed's Real Scoop store where you get 2 scoop regardless of the size and has the option to choose a cone. Last but not least, the ice cream was super watery, that it pretty much melted within 5mins. Usually the Ed's ice creams are a lot more dense and can last longer under the summer heat. Bonus points for the bad review, I got an upset stomach after eating the ice cream here, which I've never gotten from buying directly from Ed's. Random find on the way back to Finch station. A new bakery I thought but apparently has been open for just over a month or so. I chatted with the owner and she was super friendly. This bakery has Chinese buns for sale (set up reminds me of Bake Code) and there are a variety of mini cakes and cakes for sale. She also serves Ed's Real Scoop ice cream here as well, which is a definite plus. Price wise I thought it was average for the cakes at least - I do not recall the price exactly but I think it was 3.50$. I would come back and try the other cakes. I tried the Raspberry Matcha Pistachio cake, it was delicious and not too sweet. This bakery is for takeout only no seats to dine in but I think it would be nice. My friend and I wandered in after a dinner up the street looking for a little dessert and noticed the selection of goods they had on display in here. We loaded up on a few bbq pork buns (yes, that counts as dessert when you love Chinese bbq pork as much as I do), as well as a few sweet ones like the wintermelon pastry and the egg yolk tart. I'd say that about half the stuff we sampled was good and the other half just okay. The bbq pork bun for example, was delicious. The pastry was flaky and soft, and the inside had juicy little bits of pork smothered in that traditional sweet sauce (which had kind of seeped into a few layers of the pastry and made it even tastier). The other sweet buns were fairly boring and not very memorable - with the exception of the wintermelon, which had a refreshing and light taste that wasn't overpoweringly sweet. As mentioned though, their selection is huge and I would definitely love to come back to chow down on some of their other treats. If there's a solid selection of consistently delicious products I'll be back to upgrade this review for sure. read more

I ordered my cake in advance 2 days prior to when I needed it. Not only does the writing look sloppy and smudged but when I received my cake they had spellt my name "marya" I don't know why they added an extra a because my name is Mary that really just threw me off so I had to cover it with a sticker but u can still see the brown frosting underneath.Also it looks nothing like the photo they advertised. Pastries were definitely pricier than what I'm used to but they were also just slightly bigger. I would highly recommend the almond croissant ($3.60). Make sure to toast it in the oven before eating it. Super delicious !!! I could seriously eat this everyday if it were possible. Likely the best in the city imho. The lady who packs them usually leaves it unsealed for us as she says it keeps them more fresh and crispy. I-Bake also serves Ed's real scoop ice cream. I haven't tried it yet but price was alright. It's a funny thing to think about, that iBake and it's designer counter part are strategically situated at opposite ends of the Sheppard to Finch area of Yonge Street, and both about four blocks away from a respective subway station. But I'll take more trips to iBake for providing the consumer with its conventional selection of baked goods that are already found at the Chinatown bakeries. And also in addition, there are about two dim-sum items and also some bean-filled pastries, and also a pastry that incases a filling of bbq pork, something that seems very hard to find at alot of Chinese places in Canada. You know, you go in, everything looks familiar so you don't have a hard time deciding what you want to get, just simple! I had already wanted to check this place out when I came across on Yelp and did just that yesterday. I got six different items so far have not been disappointed with first two that I had for a mid-morning snack. Yeah, some of prices on the smaller sized items do match with their value-for-size but if they're good then maybe I will be willing to pay that price. The prices for more familiar buns and rolls are a bit higher than the price at Hong Island bakery but if I need to get something from here by taking a 5 minute subway ride then I'm fine with that. I've going back soon to try out the more specialty products at iBake. read more

Found this place as me and my bf were looking for some snacks and passed by here! We got the pork floss bun, custard bun and egg tart, all of them were delicious!!! I wouldn't get the cake again though, we bought 1 strawberry shortcake and it was like 90% cream for $4 lol but other than that, their baked goods you can see are made fresh everyday and they all weren't too sweet, perfect tasting if I could say :) read more

I was desperately looking for fresh mango cake, yes in January, and this bakery came through! In 3 hours! Not quite like the usual, nonetheless, I got a fresh, softt, spongy cake layered with cream and fresh mangoes and strawberries in the cream layers and on top of the cake. Beautifully arranged with sliced almonds around the sides, and a nicely tied ribbon on the box for easy carrying home. The bakers spoke mandarin, cantonese and english well. read more

Bf and I stopped in to see what they had to offer. We browsed for a bit and saw some traditional Chinese buns for sale. The price is almost double that of a traditional store though, so we didn't really want to pick any up. For example, a sausage bun was priced at $1.50 versus the typical 75 to 80 cents for a bun. We ended up purchasing some cream cheese buns which were priced at $3.50 each. We were very sad to find out that it wasn't a true cream cheese bun. Cream cheese was only smeared on the sides of the bun and the inside was plain. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone - avoid this item. I can't really comment on any other items, but I hate deceptive food products, so I won't be returning to this bakery. I would much rather go to bake code down the street or find another bakery in the area. read more

I had a chance to visit this place on the first day it opened. In many ways, this little shop has answered many of my prayers lately, as I have recently on a quest to find a bakery that sells Chinese pastries and/or French pastries - this place sells BOTH, and is close to home. The selection and quality of Chinese pastries were nothing to get too excited about, and they are much more expensive than they are at some other locations, but still nice to have available in the Willowdale area. The thing that caught my eye however, are the very large and freshly baked French-style Almond pastries - the bakers are generous with the powered sugar, sliced almonds, and the almond filling is apparently home-made (i.e. not some pre-bought paste). Flora, one of the owners of the shop, was quite gracious and helpful with her service, so I am rooting for this place. Hopefully they can reduce the prices a bit on their Chinese pastries, but for now, the Almond Pastries will keep me coming back for more! read more

This bakery has the weirdest combination...It's a chinese bakery that sells ice cream scoops and lotto649. At one of the corners, you think you're at your local convenient store (mini version), the other would be a traditional chinese bakery (the breads are left in little baskets without any protection). There was no one at the counter when we went in. Someone came out of the kitchen, but chose not to acknowledge us. They were just being busy in their kitchen... Finally when it was time to pay, the cashier had no idea how to use the till, so she wanted to charge $10 for 3 buns...when we questioned the price, she goes "right..it's a bit expensive right?" and calls for help. Finally someone who knew how to operate it comes to correct it, however, he didnt even know the price of one of the buns, almost charged us another $0.50 more than what was labelled... It was the weirdest bakery-experience ever, and unfortunately, not a good one. I hope they will eventually learn from these situations and grow. If they want to improve, definitely to increase customer service, product knowledge and perhaps consider adding some kind of protection to the breads. P.S. The taste of the buns were just okay..perhaps more interesting than T&T, but I would choose Bake Code down the street. read more

New Asian bakery in the area, and it is about time! To my surprise the convenience store in this location closed and in its place came iBake! I bought beef curry buns, beef curry pastries, and egg tarts and they are delicious. The beef curry items have a good helping of filling and a nice amount of curry flavour I grew up with. I am certain to become a regular here because it is clean and they offer a wider assortment of baked goods than just the Chinese buns. I for one am very happy that this did not become another bubble tea joint. read more

Nothing extraordinary however I did notice there was a person behind the counter and another walking around ( guarding?) and neither of them greeted anyone walking in. They just watch you pretty much. This Chinese bakery is like many others except cleaner and has a better interior. Quality of the baked goods are somewhat average with a good variety of selections. Great for purchasing something for a quick bite or just a small snack. Prices are a tad higher than other bakeries I've been to. As a resident of the new "Korea Town" for the last 20+ years; I have seen many businesses come and go. iBAKE is a unique store...in the sense that it is still a convenience store, as it does still sell cigarettes, chocolate bars/gums/candy, along with drinks (lottery was discontinued due to lack of sales). When I first spoke with the owner Vincent (sister Flora is co-owner); I was a little surprised that he was going to switch it to a bakery and advised him that it may not do so well. Boy, was I totally wrong. Frequenting this store to buy my cigarettes, I have noticed that his store is considerably much more busier - particularly, in the evenings. The bakery definitely helped boost his profits and I'm sure has helped eased the load of financial commitments to the ridiculous rent that every person who owns a business in the Yonge/Finch area (usually thousands of dollars/month). I've been to many different "Chinese" bakeries: downtown Chinatown, Richmond Hill, and North York (Leslie/Finch) and have found them all to be the same: quickly made, cheap, terrible on quality. Popular items such as BBQ pork and hot dog in a bun are typically bland at other places, unless you get them hot out of the oven. At iBAKE; it's like a gourmet pastry that easily distances itself in terms of quality versus previously mentioned experiences. I don't have a sweet tooth but, even after trying their egg tart, I was absolutely surprised at how DELICIOUS it was. You could tell that there was some serious workmanship involved in something as small as a tart. Even their ice cream and cakes are wonderfully delicious. Also for sale is a pork sandwich. It actually looks like a hamburger at first view, but wow - was it scrumptious! They have taken the time to ensure that all of the baked items, pastries, and other items are made with love and quality. The prices may be a bit higher than that of other Chinese bakeries, but rightly so. I've told many people about this place and not one person has complained about their baked goods. For other people going there and rating it poorly, I ask that you be considerate about everything overall: service should not be an important factor unless you were treated poorly; if you wait a couple of minutes and then give it a poor rating, you have to be considerate and realistic that it is a small store with high overhead - thus, very little staff. Anyways, this is without a doubt my favorite bakery enough that I go there about 3-4 times a week. read more

First impression when entering the store is that they sell buns, pastries and ice-cream now. Bought a few pastries and thought that they were expensive compared to other Chinese bakeries. But that very thought changed after trying them out-they were delicious (fresh, crispy, tasty). read more

I have wanted to try the cakes from this place for awhile. I finally did for my brother's birthday and I swear I will not go back again! First when I walked it, no greetings at all. I can understand if you are busy, but there were no customers inside and the man behind the counter just had his arms crossed at his chest and looked at us. Since there were no little signs in front of the full size cakes to differentiate what they were, I asked the man behind the counter for a black forest cake. I than asked if there is liquor in the cake and he said no due to allergies for some people. I can understand not putting liquor in the cake as it is not something everyone likes. The cake had strawberries on top, which I though was strange but I trusted him anyways. But when I got home and cut into the cake, there were absolutely NO CHERRIES!!!! I paid $26 for a 6" Black Forest Cake that has no cherries. The cake was just cream and chocolate sponge cake. Thank you for ruining my brother's birthday iBake. iBake is a wonderful addition to the neighbourhood. It offers up both European and Asian baked goods in addition to ice cream (much appreciated this summer). Their blueberry cheese danish is one of the best I've ever had. I will be going back for more. read more
