I was surprised that this few blocks really transforms the vibe - Brick & Butter Bakehouse's is near Greenview avenue, relaxing street which has a lot of green spaces alongside, giving the neighbourhood a luxurious vibe. We got - Plain croissant - Dubai chewy cookie - Canelé Plain croissant, looks beautifully golden and was flaky - I felt that it was a bit dry. It had a nice honeycomb crumb structure, but this interior was not soft. Overall taste felt very bland, leaving just saltiness/dryness on the palate. Canele was okay, but the caramelization of the outer did not achieve the bitterness I desired. The texture was not as delicate. The outer was crunchy but I felt it was too thick. Taste of the interior was good and moist. I wished to have more rummy flavor. Dubai chewy cookie - It was chewy outside like mochi, but inside was runny with some crunchy pieces. Good, but did not have depths and layers that I desired. Overall, overpriced for what was offered. But nice place to take a break when walking in this pleasant neighbourhood!

I hadn't heard of Brick & Butter Bakehouse, but it seemed highly regarded here, so it was a no-brainer. We showed up and the place was busy. I was a little full from the aforementioned meal, so I began looking at the smaller pastries. I eventually landed on the Peanut Butter Strawberry Crumble Financier, which I took to a nearby table and began eating. Oh man is it ever good. It's a delicious, rich cake that's subtle in its flavors but ultimately completely addictive. I honestly don't know how or if it could've possibly been any better. I can't wait to return to Brick & Butter to try some of their other offerings.

The cake itself was very good, a lot of strawberries with the whipping cream and cake were not too sweet so it balanced with the natural sweetness of the strawberries very well! It was also very light which was great as we had activities planned. We ordered it the day before and the cake tasted great the next day so easy to store leftovers. Communication is email only, which works, but it does feel a bit arms length and takes away from the personal touch you'd expect from a boutique bakery. A bit on the pricy side in my opinion given what I ordered. I got an almond croissant and green tea that set me back $12. Nothing special about the tea (teabag + hot water), and the croissant was okay, not bad but also not the best I've had. The place was clean and both bakery and counter staff were busy. Not much seating available in the winter, so if you plan on going to meet someone, might be good to plan for someone to get there a bit early to grab a seat-- I believe there's a patio in the summer. We stopped by a couple times while in Toronto and while we were impressed initially, realized there were much better elsewhere. I nabbed the last pineapple bun with butter since it seemed highly coveted, as well as a normal pineapple bun. The pineapple bun has great flavor but tended to be a little dry. The butter helped a lot, but the bun without butter lacked the moisture - although maybe it was because we didn't buy it fresh in the morning? The trend with the pineapple bun does seem to be that the bread itself is a little dry but the ones with fillings, such as chasiu or butter, gives it the moisture it needs. The egg tarts were standard. Not bad but nothing special - and not something I would come back for. I also got a wife pastry that was not very good. Price wise, it's definitely a little steep. But it may be worth to not having to drive in poor weather to get to Markham or Richmond Hill. I do recommend coming in the morning while the pastries and buns are still fresh - it does seem to be better during the day versus at night.
