**overall: large portioned ramen, hip vibes. broth is bit on salty side** I got a red miso ramen, and I love that it included nori and veggies! The Chinese broccoli was actually quite nice. The egg was poached, slightly different than the usual soy marinated ones I get in ramen. But I enjoyed it. Overall plating is beautiful! I will say the broth was pretty salty, and the braised pork felt like it was falling apart into my soup. Not a huge fan of that but others may like that. This isn't a very traditional ramen shop; all the menu items are more "Asian fusion." Which is cool! The vibe is hip and nice; I sat at the bar and it was cool to sit close to other people. Similar to how they do it in Japan. It does get loud though. Also, their AC was not very strong (I only saw one unit on my side), so be prepared to sweat a little! **service Servers are very attentive and nice, despite there being so many other patrons. **logistics There is NOT a lot of parking nearby. A different review said there's a parking lot, but I asked the waiters and they said it's not for customers. So street parking it is! Plan ahead--I had to drive around for 10 minutes before I found street parking. read more

A night out with the bestie. We popped into this corner spot to enjoy some ramen on a chilly night. We didn't have a reservation, noted for next time and suggested for future patrons. We ordered much more food than pictured, this was one of those "oh no I ate it before taking a picture" moments. We got the wings and vegan steamed dumplings. They were very good. Best part is that since we sat at the bar to eat we watched the guy who put all the garnishes on each plate. A little uncomfortable and possibly unsanitary to sit that close to the pass but there we were. Service was excellent, food came out fast and the energy and vibe of the location was so relaxing. read more

I think from social media and what I have seen from the DC location reviews I expected more. Like other reviews mention, it's not located in the best area. We ended up parking on a neighborhood street around the corner since the street parking directly in the front of the restaurant was filled when we arrived. We had a reservation for a Friday at 7:30pm. The place was pretty busy when we arrived, a few tables empty here and there. The interior and ambience is fantastic. We loved looking at the decor choices and enjoyed the open kitchen style since we sat at the bar. The food was ok, especially for the prices. Our server was very nice and checked in on us, but it was very slow to receive our food. The two of us dined for about 1.5hrs, mostly waiting for food. We got the karaage chicken appetizer, kimchi ramen, and pork belly mazemen. Overall we expected our serving sizes to be a bit bigger, with more protein served based on the prices. My boyfriend added pork belly to his meal for $6, however, the amount given was two small pieces. The ramen soup base was good, but thicker than we are used to. The mazemen sauce had good flavoring but they put too much sauce that I had a pool left in my bowl at the end. It was a little odd that the outside of our bowls were sticky and messy as well. The pork belly did have a nice crispy, charred crust. Chicken karaage tasted good and crispy, however, like the items before, we wish the serving size was a little larger. Note: there is an auto 18% gratuity added to all bills. It's noted at the bottom of their menu and our server pointed it out when we got the check which was appreciated. read more

Service, food, drinks: amazing! Looking forward to going back! The broth of the ramen is amazing! And the restaurant itself is really c! Love it read more

Coming from LA, I have had ramen from the best places outside of Japan. The restaurant is in a cute place and the bathroom is pretty quirky - imagine The Shining..pretty cool experience. The skateboard deck fans were very cute. Interior was legit. Ordered the Chicken Shoyu. I expected the noodles to be a certain elasticity and gauge, these were not. I think they just dropped in a bag of Bihon (Pancit noodles). The broth is also too salty. However, loved the chicken that came with it..reminded me of Korean samgyetang chicken. One easy thing I would suggest is to raise the serving temperature of ramen. It came out just warm - just north of tepid. Parking is sketchy FYI..but we are from outta town so perhaps this is the notm for the area. read more

This place is brand new and despite that, it's already hit its groove. I had the kimchi ramen and ... wow! The flavors were incredible. Spicy but not enough to kill the delicious meaty flavors of the broth. They partner with Peabody Heights brewery to make their Speed Gal beer which was crisp, tart, and absolutely perfect on a hot day. They don't have AC right now, which is tough in this 90°F weather, but there are lots of fans and I didn't really mind. I will be back. Repeatedly. read more

New Restaurant in Baltimore! They also have another location in DC. I recently visited with a few loved ones. It was the perfect night for Ramen. We ordered: Cloud Shrimp, Told Classic, Told Classic Gluten Free( which was my favorite), Shiltake & Cashew Dan Dan Noodle w/ side of veggies broth, sake, and beer. The decor is so cool. Especially the skateboards on the ceilings. Staff was super friendly and answered all questions we had. Provided amazing recommendations. I will return to try more Gluten-free items on their menu. Great food, interesting twist, dry karage and mosquitoes everywhere. The place is really cool looking, service is great but mandatory 18 percent regardless of how the service is. There were mosquitoes everywhere when eating in the patio, was wondering why they would open up that area if it's that bad outside. The area was also sketchy, being next to some rough buildings. Would go again, but with tempered expectations read more

Very cool interiors, and a very interesting space for a ramen shop. There were so many small details like the bathroom that made the restaurant really neat. The service was great, it seems like a relatively new restaurant in Baltimore and they gave us lots of reccs. We went during the happy hour time and got an ordered quite a bit of our meal at a discount which was great!! The drinks were phenomenal, we got the Toki Monster and the smokiness of the pork complimented the whiskey so well. Definitely a place to come out with your friends and get some drinks and apps! read more

When I tell y'all I did not know what I kept riding past on greenmount. However, IG brought me to my new love for Ramen. I made my reservation on Yelp which they had a lot of times available for when I wanted to go. They have street parking on both sides of the street. The customer service was good. They were really busy and all the staff works together to get the job done. Their drink menu changes I was told if it's not on the menu you're not about to order it. Example: I wanted tequila in the drink instead of whiskey and it's not available. The drink I picked was still good. The atmosphere is giving cozy family/friend hangout and I love it. Now to the food, amazing!! You get so much Ramen I couldn't finish it. My daughter got the kids ramen and it still was a pretty good size. The appetizers came out at a reasonable time. I cannot wait to come back and try different menu items. read more

This place used to be so so good and they have changed several recipes for the worse (the breading on fried chicken was incredible and is now really bad) and removed several items from their menu and I'm not entirely sure what's going on but I don't think I'll be back unless I hear things have turned around. I really want this restaurant to be good and so I hope they figure it out! read more

My first visit to Toki Underground was at the new Baltimore location. It was everything I wanted it to be and more. We were there about two weeks after opening. I had a reservation for two and five o'clock. Upon arrival there was already a group gathering at the door. We were all eager to get in there. I love the decor. Rotating skateboards above. A sticker wall. The seating at the counter was adorable. The ambiance all together was perfect. The service was spectacular. Our server was Brenden. He was fairly new but was great. When he wasn't waiting on us, all the other employees would help out as they passed the table. Grabbing empty plates. Checking water. Everyone was attentive and friendly. I really appreciate that. THE FOOD! Spectacular. Phenomenal. Tasty. Started with corn kichigai, kimchi and pork pan fried dumplings. All were so good. But the dumplings were out of this world. Expected your regular old dumpling but it was so much more than that. Red miso ramen warmed us up in all the right ways. The egg was cooked perfectly and we added garlic confit. Drooling just thinking about it. Looking forward to our next visit. Would recommend. read more

Came here with a group of 7 on a Friday Evening. We had called a couple hours before to make a reservation, and were able to secure a table. The table was the round table in the corner and is only supposed to seat 6 people, but were able to fit 7 of us. Service was okay, sometimes felt slow and other times felt rushed, but was expected based off of how busy this place is. The inside seating area felt like a speakeasy, dimly lit and intimate. The first time I came to Toki Underground I got the Mazamen, but didn't enjoy it as much as I thought it would. I remember that my friend got the Dan-Dan noodles the last time we went and I enjoyed it more than the Mazamen. This time I ordered the Dan-Dan noodles and they were even better than I remembered. The sauce was rich and creamy and surprisingly still vegan. It definitely tasted like a rich seafood pasta and I enjoyed every single bite. The only complaint is that they serve it with whole roasted cashews, which I just ate first so I could enjoy the noodles. The pickle plate is also a fun item to order especially since it has an assortment of pickles. All the pickles were very tasty, however the Carrot pickles that we received that day were extremely hot. Prices for their food items are on par for what I expect for a ramen place that is so highly praised. Will definitely be back and would be willing to order the Dan-Dan noodles again as a takeout through doordash or another food delivery service! Pro-tip: They have a discount on their website for $25 off $75 or more if you sign up for a certain mailing list. Also don't forget to check in for yelp as they do have some freebies available! read more

DC transplant to Baltimore. Not underground as the name implies but interior is industrial with graffiti on the walls and two sections with outdoor seating. Ambiance: casual and modern. Tables and high tops. Good for casual dates, friend hangouts and a quick meal. Also family friendly. Service: good. Friendly staff and quick service. Food: We got the karage fried chicken, red miso and toki classic. There was nothing special about the karage...kind of over fried and hard. Mayo dipping sauce was standard. The ramens were good. The broths were flavorful and rich. However, the noodles tasted off. Thinner and less chewy than usual. Overall, it's a good bowl of ramen but not the best by far. Drinks: about 6-7 cocktails and good selection of sake, Japanese whiskey and beer. Negative: the surrounding area of the restaurant is definitely less than desirable. Run down neighborhood with many vacant houses. Would 100% be smart and careful walking around at night read more

You know that cool ramen place that all your friends rave about (and many food blogs gush over) in Washington D.C.? Great news, Toki Underground is here in Baltimore! Seriously, the vibes, music, noodles, buns, broth, and attention to detail is finally in our backyard, in Waverly. The space is much larger than what you expect from the outside. Once you enter, the open kitchen and fragrance will peak your intrigue. I loved watching the focus of the staff prepare the dishes that delight. Obviously the ramen is amazing but I was shocked at how delicious the Vegan (spicy) broth is. Wow! The real treat and jaw dropping dish is the Shiitake & Cashew Dan Dan Noodle (also vegan). They really went "hard in the paint" on the vegan dishes. The staff was attentive and proactive. Jeff (owner/partner) is affable and happy to engage with patrons during meal service. Oliver (owner/partner) was in the kitchen working magic with the staff. I loved the rotating skateboard decks above the ramen bar and Asian inspired decorations. The restaurant opening coincides with a fantastic beer collaboration with Peabody Heights Brewery that compliments the dishes. I look forward to many date nights and solo adventures to thoroughly enjoy this new gem in the crown of Baltimore eateries. read more

Glad to have tried Toki Underground. Never made my way to the DC location. First impression when entering was hip, lively, clean and cozy. Love the open kitchen concept. The hostesses were nice and so was the wait staff. My fiancée and I ordered some apps and the ramen special of the day. She's gluten sensitive so we were happy to see a variety of gluten free options on the menu. The fried cloud shrimps were delicious with some cucumbers on the side with spicy mayo sauce, but the wings were not to our liking. My fiancée got to try apple sidra for the first time and it definitely brought back memories for me since I haven't had it in decades. The Taiwanese ramen was definitely better than I expected. I'm used to Japanese ramen, but with my family being mainly from Taiwan, I was glad this is something we can find in a city like Baltimore. Overall, we had an amazing time and will definitely be back in the near future. I see ourselves being regulars here. read more

I had been to the Toki location in DC several times and it is one my top ramen spots so decided to give this location a try. It's not in the greatest area and parking was a challenge. Finally inside, it's very intimate and edgy when you walk in - perfect for date nights. They have a separate section that's partly outside that's not as nice. Service was friendly but took very very long to order and to finally get our food. It was a Friday night and pretty busy but it really affected the experience. Finally I got my tapei curry ramen- great ingredients but the broth was very underwhelming. After adding a spice bomb and other seasoning it was a bit better. If you're looking to try ramen, may be a nice spot to go to a on a weekday with a reservation. read more

Toki Underground - Tapei Taipei Curry Chicken Ramen - Ramen Near Me - Baltimore, Maryland

I had heard great things about the Toki Underground location in DC, so was especially excited to see it open up in Baltimore. The area that it is located in isn't the best (I personally probably wouldn't walk around unaccompanied at night), but the inside of the restaurant is really hip. We came on a Friday evening after snagging a reservation around 6:45 and I am really glad we did, because the place really filled up. There is a counter bar which may be open for first-come first-served, but we sat at the high-top. The service was really fast too - I think we were in and out within 45 minutes. I got the vegan ramen which really rich and full of complex flavor, that unfortunately didn't fully vibe with my taste buds. Luckily the dan dan noodles are also vegan (and tasty). Overall, a good spot for some noodles. read more

I've heard good things from foodie friends and finally made the reservation. Only regret is not going sooner; a total treat! We found a parking spot out front and were captivated by the color and vibes in the bustling space. We were seated immediately. Our servers were delightful and happy to answer questions/offer recommendations to first timers. We started with the world's best pan fried pork dumplings with a tangy shoyu sauce. The Yuzu sake was a dangerously delicious citrus nectar, get the bottle and thank me later. I ordered the Tapei Curry Chicken Ramen with a garlic confit add-on and a side of the endorphin sauce. The flavorful silky broth, the texture of the fried chicken, the lightness of the noodles and the perfect egg yolk raised the ramen experience to a whole new level. 24 hours later and my belly is still happy Make the reservation, not to be missed. read more

It's a great atmosphere in a very convenient location. I don't personally care for this style of ramen, but they have delicious chicken and other options on the menu. Annoyingly, they wouldn't seat us without reservations, but I was able to walk outside and make a reservation for 10 minutes later. The host really should've done this for me, their intention was to refuse me service, they were surprised when we came back in after successfully making a reservation. Frustrating to see a new restaurant wantonly putting off customers. Edit: This was back in July, I see there are other complaints about customer service and the owner addressed that. I now know to make a reservation ahead of time but I'd like to think if I walked in to the restaurant now and there was available seating, I wouldn't be refused. read more

Great ambiance. Friendly staff. The menu changes a bit but everything is great and it's kid friendly (especially if your kids love ramen).

This is a hidden gem just outside the Waverly area. Great food, cocktails, wait staff and ambience. I had the bao and ramen and both were fantastic . Amazing! So much love. Found this super cute place randomly. Turns out they have an amazing happy hour everyday. If you live nearby and you are not waiting outside everyday at 5 you are seriously missing out. They have a very extensive happy hour selection. We basically ordered one of everything...nothing disappointed. The portions and quality were amazing. Everyone that worked there was pleasant and helpful. The interior has an amazing atmosphere with a very cool moving sculpture on the ceiling. We sat at the bar and had a fantastic server who was a magician behind the bar and made sure we got our happy hour on. Would definitely go again, I think they even take reservations for happy hour. We waited entirely too long to give this place another chance. My husband and I had a delicious meal, and our server Brenden was extremely welcoming and quite possibly the most charismatic server I have ever had. The pickle plate was an interesting mix of vegetables, all pickled in a different style. Cloud shrimp were insanely delicious--perfectly cooked and juicy as promised. My husband had the new mala garlic ramen, which got high marks for flavor. I loved the shiitake cashew dan dan noodles, loaded with umami. I appreciated a wide variety of choices for non-alcoholic beverages--we had Fever Tree ginger beers with blood orange which were tasty. Baltimore doesn't deserve Toki. Just want to publicly thank the owners for bringing such a gem to our city and for taking good care of their customers. We loved everything about our visit. I can appreciate the skill it takes to make a truly rich and flavorful ramen broth. But all that skill doesn't matter much if the ramen doesn't actually taste good. My miso ramen with pork belly was very rich, but so astronomically and indescribably salty and greasy that I couldn't eat it. It was like taking a spoonful of extra salty melted butter. The best I could do was to eat the broccoli and be done. Additionally, the restaurant was extremely hot, and so noisy that we couldn't communicate with our server except by pointing to the menu. The high point of our visit was the pickled vegetable appetizer which was awesome. I also really enjoyed my cocktail. read more
