I really enjoyed my lunch at Ramen Utsuke. I had my daughter with me and I found it easy to go up the ramp with my stroller and into the restaurant. They do have high chairs btw! The restaurant is nicely decorated, and the service was impeccable. I had multiple servers come and check up on me and I felt like if I ever needed anything they were able to take care of it. Also, one of the servers mentioned the restaurant is peanut free in case anyone has any allergies. The poke was really delicious. I felt that the salmon was very fresh and I thought they gave very large chunks of salmon compared to other restaurants that really do skip out on the salmon portion, but this restaurant did not! The poke had cucumbers, mangoes, avocado, and scallions as well and I felt that the mango with a nice touch to add some sweetness, and it was also very fresh. The addition of the cucumber gave a nice crunchy texture that helped the dish overall. As for the sauce, I got the original non-spicy poker sauce. I didn't use too much of it because a little bit goes a long way. I recommend anyone to come and try out the poker here and I haven't tried their Ramen yet, but I do look forward to it soon. read more

My party was hanging out in the Inner Harbor area on our last day of trip in Baltimore and wanted to eat around the area before we head out. I found Ramen Utsuke from Yelp and although it had over 4-stars, I was skeptical because I came from a town with excellent Asian restaurants so I couldn't help but be a bit judgey about the reviews. Stopped by around late 4PM and the tables were still mostly occupied. We were quickly seated in a booth and ordered a few appetizers, bentos, and ramens. We were pleasantly surprised that the food was actually pretty legit Japanese. I got the Tonkotsu Ramen Black and the broth was delicious. The noodles were well done and it had a fair amount of toppings. The pork chashu could be better (they were a little dry) but overall, it was very good in a legitimate-Asian approved way. I also got the avocado salad in onion and roasted garlic dressing and the dressing was the bomb! We use the remainder as dipping sauce for other stuff. I got a spicy miso ramen ($16.5) and it was made in about 10 mins. The broth was really savory and had some small heat to it. The pork was seasoned well. Noodles were cooked perfectly! In town on a business trip and staying in the hotel nearby, I got some takeout here to take to the room. I liked the fact that I could get three smaller apps. So I got a mix of gyoza, crunchy shrimp roll, and Chicken Kara-age. Placed an advance order on the website and picked it up easily. Everything was quite tasty. I'm usually the type that prefers much more authentic Asian food in places like Chinatown in Philly. This type of place seems a little more trendy and fits in with the overall atmosphere of the Inner Harbor. But I would definitely eat here again if I were in town for business. Be forewarned that this place is tiny! When I came here, there was a short wait, but that is to be expected if there are a limited amount of seats. It didn't take very long to be seated as I just missed the lunch rush. I ordered their house salad and tonkotsu ramen. Unfortunately, at this restaurant, they are preoccupied with getting your food out ASAP so I basically got the salad and ramen at the same time. Both were really delicious! I was pretty annoyed at the host who thought it was a good idea to ask me to move seats after all my food had been brought out on my table before he rescinded the request after another waitress intervened. If a party is seated at their table with their food, you shouldn't ask them to move unless there are extenuating circumstances which there was not. We were staying nearby at the Hyatt Regency and spotted this ramen place within short walking distance of the hotel. Since it was super windy and cold, it only made sense to eat some ramen. The place is fairly simple from the interior, but the ramen itself was amazing. What I liked is that there were several veggie ramen options. Because I wanted some kick, I got the Spicy Sesame ramen. It had the perfect ratio of soup/noodles and had the right amount of kick without feeling super heavy. I was thoroughly satisfied till the end. Also, the service was pretty prompt too, so no complaints on that front. Another bonus is that compared to prices nowadays, it was fairly reasonable. For two ramens and a beer, it was around $36 before tip. That's not bad, at least with what I'm used to. read more

Came here during a lunch break and really enjoyed my meal and the service. The veggie spring rolls (3 per order), YUMMY, came out super hot and with the sweet chili sauce which is always a plus. As an entree I ordered the Tonkotsu Shoyu based with added mild chili oil for spice. Unfortunately, the entree didn't come out hot which was disappointing, and only half of an egg was included which was also disappointing. However, the serving size was great--you definitely will have enough for leftovers and I feel there was even enough for two to share one bowl if desired because there's that much food included. I went here earlier today as they opened at 11:30 (Friday) and wanted to get something to eat prior to hopping on my train. I ordered the spicy salmon roll and the salmon sashimi. Both were very good. The freshness of the salmon really did seem higher end. Both dishes were very reasonably priced. Location is across the street from the inner harbor and it's amazing how just one street over you can grab amazing sushi for a fraction of the price that you would from an inner harbor location. The staff was great - very helpful and attentive. I was in and out in quick order as they were there when I they were needed and stood by when they were not. They provided the recommendation, however, I really would love to go back and try their Ramen. The person sitting beside me did and it looks very good. The restaurant was clean, including their bathrooms. The ambiance is relaxed and has a cool vibe with all of their artwork and posters. I am really glad I had the opportunity to eat hear as I was going to go for a inner harbor restaurant initially, however, the one I was going to go to was closed and I wouldn't have made my train in time. read more

I had been craving ramen for weeks and decided to treat myself a couple of Sundays ago. Naturally, I headed to my favorite ramen spot, Ramen Utsuke. I came prepared with my ramen and sake book in hand and a water bottle because I planned to relax and savor my soup for as long as they'd let me. I had already glanced over the menu before arriving, so I knew exactly what I was going to order. Still, I took a moment to see if I might change my mind. I went with my classic, the Chicken Paitan Black, which was previously called the Oriole Park. I've always loved the black garlic oil, although I did pay an upcharge for it. The umami flavor is perfect in ramen. When my bowl arrived, I couldn't wait to dig in. I grabbed my spoon and began tasting the broth. However, I noticed a side of corn, which quickly made me realize they'd added it to the soup instead leaving it out, like I requested. I'm not a fan of corn at all, let alone in my ramen, so I spent some time picking the kernels out. I let the server know, and while they offered to remake the dish, I didn't want to wait any longer for my food. Plus, I didn't want to send it back. I also noticed there wasn't much black garlic oil in the soup, and I could barely taste it. The chicken was surprisingly cold and lacked flavor. It seemed like it had been cooked separately and then just added to the bowl, which made it dry and unappealing. I remember this from previous visits, but at least other elements of the dish used to make up for it. This time, however, I was missing the marinated soft-boiled egg, which I realized only after I was about a quarter of the way through my soup. I informed my server, and they brought the egg over, though I felt bad about bringing it up. The staff seemed very young, and I couldn't help but wonder if the kitchen staff was also young. Not that I have anything against younger employees, but they were socializing and standing around a lot. It's really disappointing when you've been looking forward to a specific dish for weeks and end up disappointed. Despite this, I would definitely return to Ramen & Sake - I just hope they deliver the ramen I love next time. read more

This review is for their Spicy Miso Ramen -- 5/5, definitely the best ramen I had so far in the DMV area. Broth was thick, flavorful, and just what I expected and needed. Their noodles (wavy) were cooked to perfection, just the perfect level of chewiness. We tried their tonkatsu ramen and karage, unfortunately didn't love either, would give 3 stars for those dishes. Service was fast, and everyone was so so nice. We dined with a one year old and our servers couldn't have been more accommodating. It's a small ramen joint, so the ambiance is just that. I knew it would be great judging by the line going past the door, which moved surprisingly quickly. I was quoted a 15 minute wait for just myself around 1pm on a weekday (day before a large convention) and was seated before 10 minutes was up. Menu is straightforward and simple, but has a lot of options I wish I had more time to try. I got the tonkotsu ramen with black garlic, and that came out within 10 minutes. Hot and fresh but not scalding, egg cooked just right, melt in your mouth pork that felt luxurious. Place is clean and has some Japanese decor, such as samurai armor. They also have gift cards and sell t-shirts. Definitely a place to visit! Prime location and amazing food. read more

We had a rather large party (approx. 7 people) and they wouldn't take reservations, but I was pleasantly surprised to be seated within 15 min of arrival. The service was prompt and pleasant, although the restaurant was quite busy. I ordered the sweet potato roll and curry veggie ramen. The sweet potato roll was standard but very tasty and it was fun that it was purple. I am not the biggest ramen fan (not a broth girl) but the broth here was thick and creamy. The portion size was substantial and I was able to take a significant amount home for leftovers. The taste was quite good, although the mushroom texture freaked me out a little bit. Last night my wife and I dined in and WOW I can't believe how long I have been missing out. Portions were solid (not gigantic, but reasonably big), prices were good (not cheap, but again, reasonable, and noodle texture was INCREDIBLE! FYI this spot is owned by the same people as Kippo, so their flavoring and quality will be similar. I really like the high ceiling and decor of the restaurant. It gives the place a roomy feel. There are paintings around there restaurant and a samurai armor on display in the back which was cool. I got the potato croquettes appetizer and the Tonkotsu Black. The ramen wasn't bad by any mean, in fact I really like their noodles. However I feel their broth could be more rich in flavor and is missing something that could've elevated it. I like my Tonkotsu broth rich and thick but theirs was rather subdued and bland. The Potato croquettes on the other hand were amazing. Crunchy on the outside, piping hot and soft on the inside with a side of Tonkatsu sauce. Service was acceptable but nothing to write home about. While the food was decent, I feel it is a one and done experience for me as there are better ramen options around the area, but that's just coming from a ramen snob so take that as you will. Parking wise your best bet would be the garage by the Hyatt or street parking if you can find any. read more

A generous portion of seasoned grilled chicken thigh complimented it that was good on it's own, not overcooked. Standard egg noodles were used, which worked well with this. The marinated egg was slightly underdone, just how it is supposed to be. The slightly crisp cabbage was cooked on a grill and went well with the plump corn and soup. My wife had the tonkotsu ramen. Definitely recommend getting there early to get a table because when we left there was a long wait. They have a variety of drinks so between us we tried the tea, melon cream soda and hot sake. All were great. We also shared Takoyaki and Portobello Karaage which were hot and delish. The ramen options were great! A lot of variety in flavors and proteins.
