I have been here a few times in the past mainly at night time with large groups, which this spot is good for. I went randomly for lunch as someone told me this was your favorite sushi spot. Honestly, it's really lackluster and a little bit pricey. I got the chirashi bowl and was shocked to see there was no other accompaniment other than just fish and rice usually that comes with a salad or a seaweed salad. The sashimi that came on this lunch order was really flimsy and I wasn't 100% sure if it was fresh. I went at an odd time so the service was kind of slow, but ultimately very kind humans. It gives the vibe that this at one point was probably a very popular place but now it's just suffering a little bit. I hope they can take advantage of the feedback and make it better because people still have a lot of nostalgia about this place and we definitely need good sushi places in Baltimore.

This place rocks! If you'd like a wonderful experience & delicious sushi for a fair price, then you won't go wrong by choosing Minato. I was greeted by friendly staff & served by a professional team that cares about their customers. The sushi I ate was recommended by the sushi chef. I think it's called "The Flying Shrimp" and it was scrumptious I'll be back for sure!

(12/20/2025) came back to our fave sushi place after 8 years away. Fortuitously, it was happy hour. It's a steal for the quality and price. Service was efficient. This was our go-to for birthdays and celebrations, still is. I miss the friendliness of the old crew, but still a great spot downtown. Solid.

This is our first time trying this restaurant. We were celebrating my daughter's birthday and this was her choice. The restaurant is in an older building with a lot of character. We started with appetizers - garlic edamame, cream cheese wontons, and vegetable spring rolls. The wontons were some of the best that we've ever had. The garlic edamame was a nice spin on a regular order. I chose the chicken teriyaki which was nicely sliced pieces of chicken with teriyaki sauce, a serving of rice and some broccoli. My mom got the ramen with shrimp and she said it's some of the best that she's ever had. Two other people in our party got sushi and they were happy at how fresh and tasty it was. The food came out quickly and our server was efficient. We will definitely add this place to go when we are in Baltimore.

Specialty rolls for $11? Sign me up! My friend and I went to Minato to get sushi and apparently they have happy hour sushi from Monday - Saturday from 4-7pm Walking in I was confused because they share the same door with an apartment complex but It was not hard to find. The ambiance is simple and enough space to hold large parties. We decided to sit at the sushi bar and ordered our food. Our waiter was patient with us as we took our time going through the list of sushi. I ordered the Hotspur which had soft shell crab shrimp eel and avocado. I cannot eat sushi without spicy mayo and eel sauce. This was pretty good. The flavors blended well and the soft shell crab was nice and crunchy I also ate my friends wild mushroom roll which I enjoyed as well. This left a good impression and I'll be back soon

Not bad for a quick lunch break drop in. I had a craving for sushi and wanted to something quick and easy to satisfy my tastebuds. I found this spot based on reviews and decided to give it a shot. I walked in and was greeted by a nice host who smiled and welcomed me in. I let him know that I was kinda in a hurry and he offered suggestions based on what I told him. I wasn't able to order what I originally had intended - the salmon teriyaki bento box, he mentioned it would take a while to make. To save me from being disappointed he offered me a seat at the bar and the menu for traditional rolls. The place had plenty of customers for lunch, which made me feel comfortable. The ambiance was clean, simple tabling and well spaced. There was a nice chandelier hanging from the ceiling that caught my attention. I order a spicy tuna roll , nothing fancy and a shrimp and avocado roll which turned out better than I expected. I wish I knew that the Special Maki rolls were on Lunch / HH specials - I would have ordered from that menu instead but it's all good ... $6-$7 per traditional roll ... I guess I'll just have to stop by again as suggested by my waiter lol The sushi came with plenty of ginger and wasabi which I highly appreciate , I had to ask for spicy mayo but it was complimentary. If you are looking for a quick bite to satisfy your hunger it's a cool spot .

Seafood is big here in Baltimore, so I wanted to make sure I stopped by a few seafood and sushi restaurants. Minato was one of the highly touted sushi/happy hour restaurants in the city, so it was a no-brainer to go. Also, it was within walking distance from my sisters apartment, so that is an added bonus. I loved how the restaurant was decorated. It is huge despite what it looks like from outside. The restaurant is long and narrow *pause* and there are, what seems like, an infinite amount of seats there. The ceilings illuminate different colors, and the walls have a way blue pattern. The whole restaurant is extremely pleasing to the eye. From the decor to the color pallete, everything is gorgeous. The service was great. Our server Cherry was extremely attentive. At one point, my sister expressed displeasure with her drink, and Cherry was quick to make another right away to my sister's pleasure. I think the server was new, but was knowledgeable and extremely present. The happy hour menu is huge. There are a ton of options to choose from. We had quite the spread including: Edamame, Spring Roll, Shumai, Curry Chicken Dumpling, and the Rolex Sushi Roll. The food was decent, it is not the best sushi I ever had, but for the value, it is well worth it. Their prices for everything are great for your pockets, even the drinks are extremely cheap, which I find is a lost art in the happy hour game. I should mention, however, the drinks are not strong at all, so this isn't the place to get wasted when you had a bad day at work lol. Perfect hang out place for friend groups or a calm after work date.

    Happy hour rolls (0.20 discount)

The fish is fresh and the prices are decent. The location is in a nice airy building with cute decor. Their happy hour discount is nominal and could be better. Saving 0.20 cents on a roll is not that "happy"

If I wrote a review three months ago this would be 5/5, because my wife and I USED to be able to rely on Minato Sushi to follow allergy warnings and instructions. She has severe celiac and has BAD reactions to small amounts of gluten. Here is the instruction I've been pasting into our online order, which has been the same for about 6 orders in a row over the past 3 months: "NO SOY SAUCE (allergy) Box 1: Yellowtail Scallion Roll & Spicy Tuna Roll ONLY Box 2: 3-Roll Combo" Minato has either mixed tempura rolls (that are breaded) or put soy sauce (which has wheat in it) into box 1, 2 out of 4 previous orders. I don't know how to make the instructions more clear. Employees must just not care. If you want them to actually follow boxing requests you have to call the restaurant immediately after ordering your food online. This is the only way I've been able to ensure my wife's safety. Lame.

All you people that talk smack about Baltimore, get down here and get some.

This place is gold. I forgot to write this up when I was in Baltimore. I went to Baltimore to the history museum which is also worth a visit. I really wanted some sushi, so I found this place. Its weird front door makes it difficult to spot from the street. The restaurant is the 1st floor apartment in that tenement building. You go up the stairs and go into the building foyer. Then there's a door on the right that lets you into the restaurant. It's worth the trip. The fish is awesome. It's a nice space and a real gem in Baltimore. Flash mob this place if you're a sushi aficionado

Calling all indecisive eaters! Can't decide what sushi roll you want? Debating between springs rolls or crab wantons? Maybe craving some dumplings too? Minato has got you covered. As an indecisive eater myself, I have found so much joy from ordering Minato's lunch and dinner bento boxes. I often find myself craving multiple dishes at a time and I'm the worst at deciding! I love Minato because the menu options make it easy to get a whole schmorgesborg for a reasonable price! I ordered Minato recently for delivery through GrubHub. I ordered the lunch bento box which came with a choice of two sushi rolls and another dish of choice (the choices were a huge range from edamame, dumplings, spring rolls, or chicken). I went with the Arizona roll which is shrimp tempura and avocado, the spicy salmon roll which included cucumber, and the chicken katsu. I also ordered a salad with ginger dressing (because I'm sooo healthy). The breakdown: Sushi Rolls - I love Minato's sushi! In fact, it was SO good that I forgot to take a picture of it (oops). I've ordered quite a few different rolls from Minato and every single one comes out amazing. I love how fresh the ingredients are and that the rolls don't fall apart like some other places. They have a mix of classic rolls and unique special rolls too. Chicken Katsu - I honestly can't believe that the chicken katsu is an option for the lunch/dinner bento box but I LOVE that it is! It is some of the best chicken katsu I've experienced - super crunchy and flaky but also very flavorful and not overcooked. I couldn't finish it all at lunch so I saved it for dinner and it heated up nicely in my air fryer. Mixed Green Salad - I thought this salad was a great value for the price ($5 for a huge serving). My only complaint is that the ginger dressing was very oily. I wish the consistency was a little bit different so the dressing wouldn't separate as easily but the flavor was still great! Total Spend: $19 (not including delivery fees and tips). Next time you're craving sushi or asian fusion, make sure to give Minato a try. You'll never run out of options from their menu and your wallet will be happy too!

Finally decided to take a walk to Minato for Happy Hour! My absolute favorite thing was the Wonton Soup (shrimp wontons, chicken broth). I'm still thinking about it. Both the dumplings and broth were bursting with flavor. We also ordered a few sushi rolls, vegetable dumplings (solid choice), and a couple cocktails. I ordered the Lychee Saketini because it was a cool switch up from what I'd usually order. It tasted great, but there didn't seem to be much alcohol in it, so I switched to Soju ($12) . Overall, Minato is a solid sushi happy hour spot!

Shoyou seemed to have good reviews so we walked in without reservations. Looking at the menu we thought oh the three of us can easily demolish 2 regular maki rolls and maybe 3 special rolls. Nope. We had so much leftovers! And everything tasted so good! Its aptly priced. If you are getting a special roll it will be at least 4 to 8 pieces depending on what you get. My favorite of the special rolls was actually the spider roll which was made with softshell crab(and not pictured as it was promptly devoured) Would recommend if you're in the Baltimore area and want to support a local restaurant in a nice neighborhood. I also noticed they did the same for other tables, which really shows how much they care about the experience. I ordered four pieces in order from left to right: the maguro, albacore, sea bream, and toro. The maguro truly melted in my mouth. The albacore was delicious with a surprisingly generous portion. The sea bream was probably my least favorite of the lineup but still very good. The toro was easily my personal favorite, and I could have eaten 100 of those. Each order comes with two pieces which made trying different options even better. I also got the baked mussels and wowowowow they were so good. I genuinely wanted to order another round but I was already full. This is the closest spot I have found to an omakase style experience without actually doing a full omakase. It has more flavor, great presentation, and a little extra dazzle instead of just plain fish on rice. The only downside was that parking was a bit tough, but it was absolutely worth it for the quality of the meal. Highly recommend!

The staff are friendly and attentive. The raw sushi is pretty authentic and tasty. Portions are fair and price point is reasonable. The menu had a good variety and I feel like there's something for everyone. Raw sushi, cooked sushi (ala carte pieces, rolls); fried items, salads, soups, sashimi, pokebowls, noodles (stir fried, soup); japanese pancakes (okonomiyaki) and different beverages, etc. Quite a few times I've gotten the Deluxe Chirashi Sushi before, both dining-in the restaurant and through take-out orders with DoorDash. It was super awesome and has to be my favorite! It's a bowl of sushi rice with different vegetables (varies: kale, mixed greens, cucumber, radish/ daikon, avocado, micro greens) and colorful delicate slices of seafood (both raw and cooked: tuna/ ahi, seared tuna, white tuna/ escolar, salmon, yellowtail/ japanese amberjack/ hamachi, mackerel, shrimp/ ebi, egg/ tamago, crab stick, fish eggs/ tobiko). It's definitely like a treasure box from the sea. I get so happy when I see this dish! It's almost too pretty to eat! XD I've also tried a few different rolls like: Baked Salmon Philly Roll "Oven cooked salmon, cream cheese, avocado, spicy mayo, sweet sauce" (baked in a foil packet), Eel Cucumber Roll (Unagi), Maryland Real Crab Roll "real crab mix with Japanese mayo, old bay, avocado, cucumber crunch flakes, wrapped with soy paper, special sauce", 3 Roll Combo (Spicy or Regular: California Roll, Tuna Roll and Salmon Avocado Roll). The Spicy Cali Roll was amazing!!!I've also tried the Seafood Pancake (okonomiyaki) "made with wheat flour batter, shredded cabbage, onions, carrots, squash and okonomi sauce, Japanese mayo, on top and shrimp, clams, and mussels". What I really like is how well packed the take-out orders are! They Miso Soup is wrapped in saran wrap to make sure it doesn't spill. There's a piece of carsboard under the soups to make sure they lay flat. The Miso Soup is also very flavorful with lots of tofu and seaweed inside, not watered down with no flavor. The sushi rolls are packed in clear boxes efficiently and with good presentation! I recommend to definitely check this place out! You won't be disappointed (: I can't wait till I order sushi from here again!

I came as part of a large group dinner. I appreciate that they took large reservations and sat us in a nice spot in the middle of the restaurant. The server was nice and patient, but I did notice his jacket smelled like cigaret smoke. I asked what to get, since the menu is *huge* and overwhelming (I'm not sure why sushi, steak and pad Thai are on the same menu?). He recommended sushi, so I got a flaming dragon roll (I forget the exact name). Anyways, everyone else also ordered and the food came relatively quickly. Now...when I tell you this is the worst sushi I've ever had. Again, I hate being negative but I have to tell it like it is! When they first presented the dish, it was cool because they serve it on fire. I knew that they had sake in the dish (probably so the flame can keep going after they take it out of the kitchen). However, when I bit into it, the sake was *extremely* overpowering. I couldn't taste anything else except the sake. It was extremely alcohol-heavy and I could not finish the dish. I asked others to try it, and they all agreed that it was too heavy. The prices were also very high for what we got. The only food I enjoyed were the appetizers, but they were still unremarkable. Overall, I regrettably cannot recommend this place. None of the dishes stood out, and the sushi was shocking.

The service is phenomenal, I've always been greeted immediately walking in. Everyone is so nice and will talk to you and offer suggestions! They have a great menu with bento boxes as an option for people who want a little bit of everything. I 100% recommend this sushi spot for anyone.

Located…read moreright in the heart of Federal Hill right by Cross Street Market, it has both an outdoor patio and indoor seating. They are also dog friendly. They do have a happy hour on Monday to Friday from 4 PM to 6:30 PM. This includes certain rolls and appetizers, beer, wine, and cocktails. I had the lychee Saketini (HH $8), and it definitely had lychee flavor. It was a little lighter on the alcohol though. I also had a 22 oz. can of Sapporo premium beer, which was also on happy hour for $7.50. Both the bagel roll and California roll were $6 on happy hour as well. I highly recommend the Volcano Roll (HH $12), which had 6 pieces of salmon and tuna top with a spicy mayo and eel sauce. We initially sat outside, but once it started raining, they helped us bring everything inside. The hostess was very kind and our server was excellent. In terms of the ambiance, there is not much indoor and outdoor seating. It seems like they mainly do take out. Also, street parking can be limited.
