Let me say their sushi was not fresh and flavorless, but it was rice heavy and had a foul taste. We sat in"the sushi room", which resembles a sterile school cafeteria, about 7 tables. We were given soups that tasted like chicken broth and also a complimentary plate of California Roll (to fill us up). Not good. At all. When our sushi arrived, it was so full of rice. The fish wasn't fresh. The flavors didn't work together. Just not good. At all. The server was OK. Between his mid- hallway vaping and sweating on our table, to his dropping the. On a Friday evening we decided we wanted to catch some flying food in our mouths. We arrived around the 7/8 O'clock hour and there was one party leaving and another seated in the sushi bar area. I couldn't believe how large this restaurant was with several different areas. I imagined it would be a lively/loud environment but it was quite the opposite. Our chef was friendly and the staff kind/welcoming. The food was good albeit not the best I've ever had. I ordered the steak, scallops, and shrimp combo and tried a Japanese beer. There was way too many onions in the rice for my liking. I was hoping for a peanut based salad dressing but theirs was more of mayonnaise based. The miso was "heavy/fatty" and tasted like a rich flavored bone/chicken broth. I was hoping it would be light to taste/refreshing. Our tossed selection was zucchini (hoping for a protein) and a complimentary sake soak down. lol. Nice decor. Very spacious. Service was quick and friendly. It was only our party and another when we first arrived. As we were leaving another party came. Unfortunately they had a kid who was being carried in screaming and was not happy to be there. Glad we were done. Food was okay. I asked for medium rare but food was cooked well done. Unlike some other Japanese places that overload you with rice and veggies, Ginza got the balance. I also discovered their Tatami room, which got me excited to bring a group. Dietary restrictions: They were very attentive to my spouse's onion allergy and knew every ingredient. Most places if we asked if something had onion, it becomes a 30 minute ordeal of waiter, to manager, to chef, who then all come to the table to help figure food out (which is nice). It was refreshing though to ask if something had onion in it, and with only a thought the person was able to answer us. After a moment one of the workers and a couple kids came around the corner and he blew up a couple of inflatable balloons for them. The food is prepared for you in a professional and entertaining fashion. There is also a full bar, availability of sushi, and karaoke. The owners are very accommodating and aim to please. The cooking of the food is always fun to watch but i think our guy just needed the day off. The soup was akin to the taste of warm bath water with epson salt. Their yum yum sauce is white and taste like melted mayonnaise. If you've had great yum yum, it's almost orange in color. The ginger sauce tasted like soy sauce. Not a hint of ginger. The food was tasteless. I could have had a V8. The fried rice was crunchy. The veggies, rice and shrimp had no seasoning. My glass of water was excellent; I'm not being funny. We only ordered sushi, thats why I'm giving them a 2 and not a 1. The hibachi dishes other people got seemed okay. The sushi, unfortunately, was inedible. Even the Wasabi had some weird brown spots... like it had dried out from sitting. Sushi rolls all tasted the same, browned avocado, imitation crab had an off taste, and the fish looked and tasted off and was gray. Didn't finish the meal, and I wouldn't go back. I order sushi from here all the time. It's a bit pricey but they give me a 10% military discount which is nice. The sushi is of good quality and the hibachi grill is excellent. Very entertaining to watch the chef do his tricks with the cooking utensils and set the grill on fire. I liked the place so much I got my son a job there bussing tables and he seems to be doing good for his first after school job. I've had a thing for these type of restaurants ever since I first went to Kobe's. It's nice little spot inside the shopping center in Owings Mill. That means it's plenty of parking. The restaurant is very nice & broken into 2 sections. One side is for the hibachi grill if that's what you have a taste for. The other one is for the sushi bar. Both sides have great service & the waiters are constantly checking to see if you're satisfied. The prices are excellent & my favorite thing on the menu is the volcano rolls. This restaurant experience was horrible and I can't believe this place is in business. We had a reservation at 7:30 for hibachi and were not served our appetizers until 8:30. The soup was straight chicken fat broth and the salad was covered in a strange, thin, mayonnaise type sauce. The waiters were unfriendly and kept forgetting things. Think different combinations of avocado, cucumber, raw fish(salmon, tuna) sticky rice, cream cheese, imitation crab stick, spicy mayo, etc. all wrapped up in nori. They also have sweet fried sesame bean balls, teriyaki chicken on a stick and garden salad. It's all pretty good and well maintained. I started with the soup and found it quite tasty. The Shrimp Fried Rice was cooked just as requested and served next. When the Lobster Roll arrived, I was ready to dig in. It was fresh and had just the right amount of spice (a hint) for my liking. The entire staff was friendly. They were able to answer all my questions and I had a few since this was my first time at a Hibachi Grill. I made a special trip to this restaurant from my house (a 20 minute ride) and got a pretty expensive entrée (27$). They forgot my salad and soup which I did not realize until I got home. Upon calling the manager said "they thought I didn't need it" and "it should be ok because we gave you extra rice". I'm not sure how any of that make sense. Food was good. Ordered hibachi and sushi from here for take out and it was just not good. The shrimp was pretty tasteless, veggies were brown and the salmon in the sushi looked like salmon they had baked in the oven and then shoved in a roll. Literally couldn't eat the shrimp or sushi. Not sure if it's one of those places where the food is a lot better if you actually sit in, but I definitely do not recommend getting takeout from here.
